- The truth behind the mystery of Gatorclaws is a strange tale. Everyone thought they were Deathclaws when we first saw them, or rip offs. In a way, both of those things are correct. However they do in fact have a backstory, and there is a reason for these similarities between Gatorclaws and Deathclaws. Its involves an old ghoul called Darren McDermott, and a Replication Facility inside Safari Adventure. Its a long tale, with a sad ending, and I think you will like it ;)

@@LoverOfManyArts Galloping gators (Kaprosuchus saharicus) were once a thing and they look quite similar to gatorclaws, only difference is that they walked on all 4 legs while gatorclaws prefer to stand on 2.
I want to do better, I am going to try and do better. Upload frequency seems to be the cause of recent drops, along with a few other changes. I will try and upload more. Maybe a small video during the week and a bigger one at the weekend. As always, likes and comments will still help, until we know exactly what is going on.

That would be trouble.
They're probably too biologically different for reproduction to happen between them, and even if they can reproduce, it'd probably be a mule situation (horses and donkeys make mules, however two mules can't make more mules; a deathclaw and a gatorclaw could make a hypotheticalclaw, but two hypotheticalclaws can't make more.)

I actually really liked the gatorclaw, although I'd much rather fight a massive mutated alligator in the next fallout (if it has a mutant gator)
Before I watch the video, a facetious answer. "What is a gatorclaw?" It's a deathclaw reskinned to look like a gator to pad out the critter count in fallout 4.

That Which Smashes: It was also made after the Fallout New Orleans rumors started becoming so widespread. I personally think that the GatorClaw was primarily created so that Obsidian can utilize it in Fallout New Orleans.

Fingers crossed that Fallout Miami’s gatorclaws are even more interesting than the ones we already have because I really like the design of these beasties and I have you, Thenthapple, to thank for making them so appealing to me!
Personally, I've been imagining using the Yao Guai skeleton and altering it to create a Kaprosuchus-esque beast. Quadrupedal yet able to rear up on two legs if needed, y'know?

Really that nuka-gen itself hold so much potential for rebuilding, really hope Bethesda actually use it in future.
Just seeing this weird animals from the commonwealth, like these one-headed hairy Brahmin or this little things that look like humans with hands for foot and a tail, would be such a fun thing.

Have you figured out a logical reason for legendary creatures? With humans and creatures it could be counted as a mutation but there are also legendary robots. The best i could come up with is a glitch in their programming caused them to use more power, which would sorta explain the explosion, and made them stronger.
It’s been a long time since you posted but I’ll answer for ya.
There is no logical reason. Not just for creatures but legendary enemies in general. The word “legendary” becomes meaningless when you face about 1 or 2 enemies with the title every few battles or so. They just exist as random loot drops which may not even be good.

I did find a mod that makes legendary enemies have more varied mutations. Like one is 'secret synth' and said human enemy pulls out an institute weapon all of a sudden. Just a little variety.
the model wasn't reused. they reused the animation and skeleton but made a new model and texture to put over it.

Which is the same as reusing a model. All they did was retexture it. I give them points for adding backstory and different behaviors though.
Raiyen22 The Inverted no it is. for bigger variants, glowing or albino variants they use the same moddel, this is a new or heavily reworked moddel. a retexture is just a new bit of paint. a remodel is exactly that: a new model. the head and hands figure is different.
the gatorclaw can be compared to the combat shotgun, both use the skeleton of a different thing, deathclaws and combat riffle, to make use of the exact same animations and many of the same mechanics but give it a new model and some new stuff.
by saying that that a remodel is the same as a retexture you say that SMIM (www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8655/?) and Skyrim HD - 2K Textures (www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/607/?) change the same files, and by merely looking into the files you can see that that isn't the case.
not saying it isn't lazy that they reused the animations, but credit where credit is due, and this is a pretty cool mesh.
It is the same base model, which is just a mass of polygons, then a detailed skin is placed over it. So they basically took the same base model, and made a different skin to put on it, then added some new movements.
I'm not gonna act like I know how it all works, but I was going to school for animation a year ago, and this is the type of stuff they were teaching us. How to make a base model, then be able to put different looking skins on it that could look totally different, not just a different color
Raiyen22 The Inverted i think you mix up some terms. the texture is 100% flat, formless. a texture a placed over a mesh, this is a 3d moddel. for things that have to move this mesh is connected to a skeleton, this skeleton has animations, as the skeleton moves so does the mesh with the textures on it.
a new texture will never change the form of something, for that you need to change the mesh, the model. as the gatorclaw doesn't have the exact same form it is a new mesh placed on the deathclaw skeleton.
did you not even take a look at the two mods?

I really appreciate the care taken in how the material is presented. While the video is essentially a spoiler of an interesting side-quest, it does not do so in such a way that I could not easily pursue the quest on my own and still enjoy the discoveries and revelations involved. Not showing the codes or their locations helps with this as well as not showing loot locations, etc. Big thumbs up from someone who randomly came across your channel!

It retcons ghouls not needing to eat, the splicing of super mutant fev sample and gators is also dumb af too, just a lazy excuse to reuse the deathclaw animation. Deathclaws were prewar so it really makes no sense because their strain of fev has to be different

great video.....a couple of things tho....I raise chickens, and as you know birds and reptiles are sort of related....the thing about them is the females will lay eggs , they don't have to have a male ....but the eggs are not fertile....also and this is more of a gator thing...( I live in Florida) gators can change gender when it is needed...that is a survival thing....they are like frogs or fish that can do the same thing...it is rare...and it has not happened in recent years in the wild that I know of..but Mother nature finds a way....however I hope that by turning off the replicator there will be no more of those horrible monsters....because I like Cito and his "family"....have a good one and we'll see you next time.

There's a small group of Super Mutants living in Nuka World. Maybe the one McDermot found was part of it.
As far as the channel is concerned, do what you feel is right but please don't burn yourself out. And don't compare yourself to other channels that make similar content. I've seen other lore videos, good and bad, but they don't quite have the same flair that your stuff does.

There's a group of them fighting raiders at the Shovel Museum and also one living by himself in a small camp somewhere. I think that's it but I don't remember.

I was ambushed by two yao gui and a legendary matriarch deathclaw, and was able to take them out with minimal effort. I was later killed by two cave crickets. The cave cricket is truly the most irritating enemy in all of fallout; more so than the bastard cazadores of New Vegas.

Technically it could be impossible since you would have to get close enough since both would fight until one dies
Are you Insane???? A normal deathclaw was a real "oh shit!" enemy you had to worry about and could kick your ass if three or more are around. A gatorclaw is basically the same "oh shit!" but with the "They CAN SWIN!!!" added to it. To mix both together would bring not only the meanest bastard that would give Frank Horrigan a real fight, but would also give birth to an uncontrollable, Unfathomable, Unrelenting, Unholy beast that would rip apart the fabrics of Humanity in an attempt to survive and kill. Not to mention the Variants/Rare/Legendary versions, These things would be very hard to kill even at max levels. Water, Land, Air, and Fire, No matter where you go into those things will be there and they would indefinitely cause us to rage uncontrollably as they are dominant UNLESS Said Abomination is made into a final boss, then and only then will it make a great twist to the end. You come face to face with whichever's fraction leader in a circle of fire somewhere in the wasteland, Only for that shit to burst from the ground, eat them whole( even in power armor), and screech at you as you stare in complete terror as you shoot the shit out of it to only realize very little damage is being done to it no matter which weapon it is. I cant even fucking imagine how much ammo and time your companion will last or even the size of such a thing. I know it would probably be double the size and compared to Behemoths, this thing would tower over them. It'll probably be more then half the size of liberty prime( or to be even scary exactly the same size!) and has a health of over 1,000,000 with resistances of at least double of a deathclaw. Good god were all dead! DEAD!!!!!!

@@thenthapple The primary plot in Jurassic Park was how the scientists used the DNA of a frog species that's almost entire female, in an attempt to control the population via induced infertility. Problem with that, was that species can change sex in absence of males for the survival of the group. That's why there were even dinos to give us the rest of the franchise, when they feasibly could have just died out.

I have to wonder, could the Gatorclaw here in Fallout 4 be a prelude to a new location for Fallout 5? Maybe the swamps of Florida or Louisiana? I would think the gator Claw would have evolved there more naturally, and could be an enemy if they were to set the game in that area next time.
Could theoretically be. After all Fallout 3 referenced the Commonwealth, the Institute and their synths/androids in The Replicated Man quest. All of which became major locations/plotpoints in Fallout 4.

silentpaw: Obsidian licensing Fallout New Orleans for copyright was a big rumor when this DLC came out, but Bethesda squashed the rumors. However, a year before Fallout 4 was released, the same rumors about it being based in Boston were called "lies". I personally believe that Obsidian will make Fallout New Orleans and that Bethesda made GatorClaws for New Orleans.

I think that it is fair to say that they need some sort of substance to stay alive. Maybe radiaton is enough
JetDoes I think that as long as there is some radiation they can survive, I've personally never heard of ghouls eating food out of need, I know of for example underworld (Fallout 3) has a café but it's more for pleasure, they also don't benefit from using stimpacks. Not saying you are wrong, this is just from what I've discovered.
The lore about ghouls is not fully known. Both the original devs and Beth keep a lot about them secret. It adds to the mystery.
Shadowpunk2077 i remember once i heard a ghouls holotape (i think it was that croup manor guy) in the tape he said "200 years and i CANT DIE!" and if my memory serves me right there wasnt any food in the manor. and the way he dies is he attacks his feral ghoul family in case anybody was wondering.
thats how i think ghouls dont need to eat and the only reason mcdermot was eating food was because he didnt know that ghouls dont need food or water

There are Super Mutants in Nuka World. Not in the park itself, but there were times where the Nuka World Raiders would be fighing them in places outside the park.

To be honest, the Gatorclaws really seem like a lazily implemented idea for a "difficult enemy" in nuka world. Lots of shit Bethesda had done within fallout 4 was all trashy and lore breaking, so you doing lore on this shit is slowly seeming more and more pointless, as bethesda makes the decision that a predefined lore is clearly malleable, but only in recent games.
could've made an "enraged" one like the fog crawler, god i'm going to have nightmares if i run into it on my unmodded file(did a modded one to see what nuka world was like) since i'm partle to ballistic, and only energy weapons i like are: the alien blaster and the plasma rifle from the institute, on the other hand, i love the nuka-nuke, mostly because of color

I noticed on pc once I spawned in deathclaws and gatorclaws and they get along. pretty cool. I think since its the case they should both breed together
