Yep. That's literally all that happened. Nothing mattered, nobody mattered, and there was no motive or closure. An exercise in absolutely pointless filmmaking.
Wizz Dj honestly i have no idea why they took his face down? when i made this comment, i remember that you could clearly see him when you search for the cast of this film
If you watch the secret ending credits revealed by putting in the Konami Code 50 times with a broken Guitar Hero controller, you can clearly see the killer being surrounded by their Viet Cong comrades Doll Face, Pinup Girl, and Sack Head before exposing themselves as Hannah Baker, who screams "IT WAS ME THE WHOLE TIIIIIIIIIIII-" before the movie ends and cuts her off.
It actually probably was meant to be gas. It was water because it's messed up to pour actual gas on an actor. Gasoline can actually cause Contact Frostbite in cold weather, the fact that it doesn't freeze as easily as water means that it can be as cold or colder than ice while still liquid. And when that super-cold gasoline comes into contact with warm human skin it begins to evaporate, which just makes the body temperature drop even faster.
That shot of the killer where we "almost" see his face, he reminds me of the plumber that was there to fix the water heater and who said he had been there before. He would wear overalls and those types of boots too.
But wasnt he like kinda bald and if you see the killer had more hair like when the boy gets head smash in car window. Or sometimes when he attack the mom in the bed. But either way killer was never shown at all.
Unless they are the type of person to drag you to a house where stuff goes missing and things are moved around all the time and its obvious there are intruders around but refuses to leave or to even entertain the fact that shit is weird and eventually gets you both killed because they have the survival instincts of a crab walking sideways into a barbeque and staying there until they die a slow and painful death
Yes for sure...that's why he loured so much all over his skin especially. And, the color. And, Logan didn't even cough or choke which he would if it was gas. And why use gas if you're not going to set him on fire? No sense.
yo, like no matter how angry, upset, drunk or high you are, never tell one of your remaining parents that you wish they'd died instead of the deceased one
That’s so true, and he was very ungrateful. She is having a hard time dealing with her husband’s death too. Sure, she needed to pull herself together for her son, and I get why he is upset, and he was right in some things he said, but many of the things he said was so uncalled for. If my dad or mom died, I would know not to take them for granted and I would hang out with the still alive parent all the time. I hated the move, it was so slow and not he same thing happens like ten times, you know the thing with the basement. I really didn’t like it.
Plot twist: He killed them in the house to make the house cheaper due to the murders. At the end he goes back to the same house with the open house sign and stops to make sure it's Sunday because that's the day they were open, he goes and makes an offer and gets a great deal and everyone lives happily ever after!
The photograph was in the trash during his presence of the plumber in the house, he gave the cellphone to niaomi, saying that it was near heater. He knew the location of heater. He said, I am out here almost everyday. Same body built, dirty nails, etc. It's him.
Black Ops I agree that it's the plumber. I just stated that above, but I think so because the shot where we "almost" see his face totally reminded me of the plumber's face. And the boots are the type a plumber would wear.
If they had tweaked the movie just a bit, they could've suggested that the killer was Logan. Instead, they tried to pull off The Strangers when the only actual suspect is the plumber.
Ik i was thinking throughout the movie that maybe the killer was Logan because he had split personality disorder or something, that would have been a much better ending
First i thought it could be Logan, then we saw the killer walking around the house at the same time as we saw Logan. Then i suspected Martha, that she either was wearing a wig except when she was stalking and murdering people in the dark, or that she was a man all along that somehow was able to dress up and act like an old woman very very convincingly. All guesses and theories ofc was just a waste of time as it turned out to be Bob that was not even in the movie.
i thought it was Martha husband as she coincidentally walked past blind Logan. Because although she had some sort of non permanent Dementia she was definitely faking it
Kendall Mahan I mean it has happened before 100% but the odds are against you if you’re in this situation. I don’t mind either endings; everyone lives or dies. But I don’t think real killers would let someone live or be taken down by the person they want to kill. Killers typically choose more vulnerable people that they are convinced they can take them by themselves. Not many MMA fighters being murdered lol 🤣
Not only am I forced to run around blind but I'm forced to run around blind with my eyes smarting and itching from someone removing my lenses with their dirty fingers. *cringes*
That scene was extremely unrealistic to me. If someone tried to pin me down to take out my contacts, I'm not just gonna lay there with my eyes wide open. I'm thrashing my head around and keeping my eyes shut, making it impossible for the killer to even touch them and giving me a chance to possibly get away
@@r5denmark so? Just cause he got glasses and contacts doesn't mean he's blind without them... there's no way for me to tell how bad a person's eye sight is just cause I know they use glasses
“They were just at the wrong place at a wrong time.” Hmm now i’m lowkey thinking that it’s the milk’s faut at the beginning of the movie LMAO. If Logan’s father didn’t forget to get that damn milk at the grocery then things could’ve ended differently, given that small amount of time that he would exert into grabbing it and at the checkout counter since another item ‘supposedly’ was added. It could have saved his dad at least 5 seconds to miss the rushing car. The movie had a lot of “what ifs” especially with the cellphone part where he could’ve easily called 911 even when the sim was removed. But yeah, damn that milk.
Guys it was cold outside, if you pour cold water on an unconscious person they get hypothermia quickly but don't die immediately, it was making him easier prey
The only explanation I can get from this is that killer might have just been a serial killer that went to open houses to get a better look at who the family was. He found the photo took it and probably threw it in the trash to distrust the two. In other words to lose trust in each other. Next we see that he has knowledge of Logan’s bad vision, He definitely stayed in the house after the open house and then cane out in the night to explore (This is probably when he actually found the photo) found the camera and took photos of them, found out more info on them. It’s perfectly normal to suspect it’s really the plumber but there is no real motive for him to do that other then pure speculation that he wanted the house. However a clear motivation of our mystery killer is that he killed them to cheapen the price of the house (No one wants to pay a high price for house that people got murdered in) so that he could later purchase the house. Either way we can only speculate on who the killer was RIP
That’s the point of the movie. We don’t know who the killer is and we aren’t supposed to know. I’ll agree that this isn’t exactly scary nor the best horror movie as the protagonists are as dumb as it gets, but it does actually get the point across that it’s making. Tragedy can be random, there doesnt always have to be a reason for. Everyone wants to believe something happens for a reason or God’s plan, but sometime life just sucks and bad things happen. The dad died from a driver who had died from a heart attack. No rhyme or reason or karma, just the wrong place at the wrong time. Same with victims of a serial killer. The victims weren’t bad people, nor did something to Deserve their fate. Sadly serial killers just pick their victims at random, not having connection with who they target, with the only constant being their twisted MO. Look at someone like Ted Bundy where he went on a rampage at a sorority house. Some of The girls living there ended up having survivors guilt afterwards, wondering why Bundy killed their neighbor but skipped their room. Or imagine the anger and grief the parents of his victims felt. Not knowing who killed their daughters and wanting closure while also unable to help police list possible suspects who may have targeted their daughters, only to find out they died simply because they were in their room asleep and he happened to pick that room during his mania period. It sucks. There’s no closure. There’s no justification or reassurance from God, only a reminder that this world is just very cruel sometimes.
wiinterflowers - The killer was never to be revealed. He is just a random serial killer who's trade mark was open houses. So it didn't matter who he is. He is just a killer so kills people at open houses for fun and thrill.
No if you notice he also pours it all over the floor as well gas would make you way colder then water because of the evaporation. That’s why he was so cold when he was only out there for a short time. And also his clothes are never frozen in the movie if it was water they wouldn’t looked soaked so I think they had the killer pour it all over the ground to show you it was gasoline because the killer is demented he thinks outside of the box. Also when he’s by the water his clothes are dry, once again they wouldn’t be if it was water but they are because all the gas has evaporated. Now this is just my theory but I think the killer poured gas all over the floor and him so he could go back before he left and burn everything. But I guess we’ll never know. I hope we get a second movie with some answers.
@Neon Drifter no this movie is the definition of cliche. Its like something was gonna happen every 5 minutes but it never does its so stupid and boring. First 30min are pointless. Characters have no purpose.
Okay it’s obvious that the “open house killer” was the electrician/plumber that came to “fix” the Pilate light in the basement. I mean when he first is introduced he comes off creepy anyway. And how did he mysteriously find Logan’s phone RIGHT next to the water heater when Logan went down there literally the night before and saw nothing. Also when Logan searches for his and his mom’s phone to call the police they’re BOTH without SIM cards. The electrician easily could have taken out Logan’s SIM card (he already would have the proper tools) and then later taken out the mom’s SIM in case they tried to call police during his attack. Also you say the killers face reveal in the basement after Logan accidentally stabs his mom doesn’t resemble anyone previously seen in the movie? YES IT DOES! Search what the electrician looked like in the scene where he’s first introduced then compare him to the shadowy looking guy in the basement and they match up! Same face lines and everything! The killer is literally revealed when Logan accidentally kills his mom. I believe this man is a serial killer from the start. He had no particular motive to kill Logan or his mom, just wrong place at the wrong time. I believe the “electrician” goes from place to place looking for open house signs, and since most open houses do occur on Sundays, he waits until open house Sunday to get into the house without trouble, preys on his victims by watching and studying them, then fucks with their showers ( not necessarily the shower but you get the idea) so they’re forced to call in an electrician (ie. him) eventually making his move. Plus the fact that the man in black killer has on overalls completely makes sense if he’s an electrician. Also it’s not uncommon at all for someone to still live in a home they plan on selling like it literally happens all the time (at least where I’m from) there’s No good reason as to why he’s killing people that live in houses for sale but in a sense I get why someone as crazy as this guy chooses this way, it’s an easy route to kill and get away with it. the guy is just a straight psychopath.
Holy hell, this movie pissed me off. A thousand story threads with no resolution whatsoever. It’s just Netflix trying to promote the 13RW kid, and he’s not even good in this movie. Jumpscare after jumpscare, stupid character decision after stupid character decision, cheesy forced tension music in every scene, and all of it amounts to nothing.
You realize everything you complained about had nothing to do with Dylan Minette right? In both this and 13 Reasons Why, he’s the highlight. It’s just the material is terrible.
Just watched this movie last night. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. It was juuuuust decent enough to intrigue me, and make me watch the entire thing, only to be let down by a total lack of reasoning behind the motives of the bad guys. It was pointless. Just some creepy guys messing with a family for days, and then ultimately deciding to cruelly murder them. End credits. No reason for the father to be killed tragically. No reason for the kid to be a good runner. No reason for the creepy basement cave. No reason for the creepy alzheimer's neighbor lady. The parts never really came together in a coherent way. It would have made more sense if the killers were connected to the dad somehow, or the mom's comment about the dad's financial irresponsibility putting them in painful debt. Some kind of rational motive. Or the weird open house people who acted real fidgety, and the one guy who stayed in the house super late and was acting weird when they came home. I thought it would have been cooler if people were using the foundation of the home for creepy rituals or something, trying to hide it from the homeowners, and the kid and his mom staying there unexpectedly complicated their routine.
I had a couple of thoughts, killer was a hitman hired by someone the father may have owed money to, or it was the Alzheimer's ladies husband who also had dementia or something and thought he was a stalker.
chewface I agree there were too many unnecessary characters that had minimal impact on the movie except giving actors a job. Not saying it had to be a ghost story/haunted house, but just due to the unanswered questions which were many they could have made it a decent movie even without the reveal of the actual killer, but it was trying to do too much without revealing anything.
What if: The plumber (yes, the guy who told Naomi about Martha's Alzheimer's disease) could have killed them. Think about it... he could be Martha's husband. He was the only one who said that Martha's husband had died, besides crazy Martha herself. The plumber also mentioned he's been in the house before... hence the strange man who walked in during the open house. ALSO, he said that he's been to Martha's house many, many times. Maybe this is because they are married? Obviously Martha is crazy, so she could get confused on who her husband was. Well, I digress and I'm looking for input from the comments to disprove or maybe help prove my idea more.
The plumber wasn't tall or fit enough to be the killer. Plus, the killer had black hair and I believe the plumber had dirty blonde hair. It was just a stupid ass movie where anything could've been anything. What I want to know is how the hell do I get a movie on Netflix, they'll take any old crap.
This movie really bummed me out. I was so looking forward to seeing it and was so disappointed when I did. Also you don’t need a SIM card to call emergency services 👌
I'd like to correct you not like it's really important but I'm pretty sure black boots put water on Logan to make him really cold and harder for him to move around basically making him not a threat anymore. If I'm wrong please correct me but that's what I understood from that scene
You are correct. The thought behind it would be making it difficult for him to move if he regained consciousness quickly enough. Had he not regained consciousness, he would’ve died faster due to both the exposure to the elements and the cold water dumped on him. The water would’ve sped up the development of hypothermia.
Like a non-supernatural version of the movie The Nun. I got that impression with both of those movies. Like throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.
I always thought the killer had a striking resemblance to the plumber and the fact he magically returned a phone that was long missing and also dealt with the water heater which was messed with a lot by the killer seemed too coincidental to me. He also fits the build of the killer too.
@@ar0n_piper977I think it’s the dad bc the killer has the same haircut as the dad and the mom also was upset with the dad calling him irresponsible with the money and how he never cared ab them which probably gave him a reason to want to kill them. In the beginning when the mom told the dad to get eggs and milk the son also asked for something out of the store, the dad only brought back eggs. I feel like he wasn’t really doing much to support the family anyway bc a disconnect notice came in! They were having problems before he died anyway and I always wonder how Logan died at the end bc we never really saw him get killed he just screamed! It couldn’t have been the plumber bc he has a buzz cut and a receding hairline, plus his face is fat, when Logan woke up from being frozen outside and tried to go look for his mom the killer started playing the same song that was being played in the car before his dad got run over how would the killer know that? And y’all forgot that Logan had a dream of his dad being down in the basement where his mother was killed. He got jealous and killed the black guy because him and Logan started to get close. That’s called pre-meditated murder because it was thought of and planned out!! It wasn’t giving serial killer bc they would kill u right then and there.
Your assumption at the end about the plot of the movie was a WAY better plot then I think the actual creators came up with. You should definitely be a screen writer.
Evan Bevere what!?!?! Tell me one horror movie in 2018 to have been this good?? I dare you. Insidious Key bull, boring. Truth of dare, boring. The Strangers Prey, snoozefest. Hereditary made me sleepy, Slender Man is pg13, no brainer there. Hellraiser was cheesy. The cloverfield paradox I forgot the plot. Demon house sucked and so did Polaroid. This was reasonably good. Rewatch the film. Its great. Almost comparable to Unsane. That was good.
Mark Anthony Reyes you forgot a quiet place??? The open house is one of the worst movies i ever watched because is so terrible that the horror was to killing myself
Arthur Lana Rola Gomes I didnt list a quiet place because it's a remake. But it wasn't as good at building up the tension like open house. Music lacked in a quiet place and the tension when the aliens were present towards the end was lackluster including the cgi. True open houses ending wasn't the best. But trust it was still good watch.
First - A Quiet Place is not a remake and is a awesome movie, the lack of music i necessary for a movie that its premise is silence, the cgi is not Jurassic World, but is decent and is a great movie Second - Open House has bad writing, don't make sense at all, all characters except Naiomi are pure trash including Logan, Evil Boots (the villain) don't make sense, it try to make what Strangers made better. Just see the reviews and i recomment to watch this video, it is for comedy but you gonna see the problem with this movie : th-cam.com/video/OR3f9pGXNpM/w-d-xo.html (Edit: reviews are here: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_open_house_2018)
Arthur Lana Rola Gomes you are right. It's an adaptation. My bad. I'm not a review connoisseur. Ratings and reviews mean nothing to me behind a Hollywood machine. The Witch for example, it had not so good ratings in its first few weeks and I felt that film was absolutely amazing. Open house had some open holes in it, true. So did a quiet place. Questions unanswered. The ending was terrible and I was annoyed by the guilt dynamic.
"You're next" actually does a decent job at that were they don't do that dumb shit like 1.hitting the killer once and being yeah he dead.. No they keep hitting... And hitting... And hitting... o god that's enough.. And hitting 2. The victims don't go alone to do things like fix the fuse box 3. Victems have actually decent plans to survive And some more stuff
I was thinking that too. She did have Alzheimers too. The only thing I could piece together if it was a possibility. Everything else didn't connect in any way.
Is it me or do cops in scary movies act incompetent? Because realistically police would tell them to get out of the town for a couple of days. If the family is rally freaked out about it. Regardless the police officer said that they would check up on them later during the morning. The killer also touched the knife with his bare fingers; leaving his finger prints on the knifes handle.
I think they add incompetent cops to give the movie something to chew on. I just get frustrated when stupid cops help. Unfortunately, I get frustrated with people like Naiomi. Or they have a competent cop but he/she gets killed.
Nightmare on Elm Street has competent police. They immediately launch an investigation into Tina's murder and arrest Rod, using Nancy as bait. It almost adds to the scares of the movie. The police are good and helpful, but even with her father as the sheriff, nobody believes Nancy that an undead serial killer is killing people in their nightmares. In Freddy vs Jason, we see the town finally figured out Freddy runs on fear, so they institutionalized the only people that could remember Freddy and force them to take dream-suppressing drugs. They refuse to allow anyone to even say Freddy's name. Plus, it's the cop that tells them all about Jason and helps them figure out what the connection is between Freddy and Jason. The Nightmare universe has police that know their shit.
Um no u can’t the you need a SIM card to make calls because the SIM card is connected to the cell phone towerWithout the SIM card you can’t make calls.Unless your connected to WiFi but of course this movie never showed that WiFi existed.Or at least the house didn’t have WiFi
@@LittleNakedCat yeah i have seen it a lot in american movies and wondered the same. Here in the uk you can call emergency services where there is no service or sim cards
In most states cellphones have to make emergency phone with or without a sim even if the phone is locked there should always be a ways to call for help
When Logan can't LET Go of his father's death...He finds a note in his bedroom saying...IF YOU YOURSELF CANNOT RELEASE, THEN IT WILL COME TO TAKE A PIECE.😎👍
*Life hack* 👏 If your too scared or too busy to watch a long horror movie. Watch his video and bam 1 hour~ in 17 mins and show off to your friends that you definitely watched the movie. And you have all the key parts
And now, finally, this movie just pissed me off cause the guy wasn't even a natural killer he was a psychopath! Also why would you let the guy run for hours AND HOW THE FUCK DID YOU KNOW WHERE LOGAN WAS! This movie straight pissed me OFF yo!
I don't think it was gasoline... I think it was just clean water and that the killer was hoping that the guy would freeze to death (as he almost did) Having said that, how did the sister know somebody had broken into the house? It couldn't have been the police telling her because the mother and son called them only after they entered the house. And doesn't the killer look like the guy who came to the house to fix the boiler?
I thought the stuff the killer poured over Logan was ice water, not gasoline. Hence why he looked all cold and icy and stuff afterward. I could be wrong though, obviously this movie gave me exactly no help haha
I think the culprit was the plumber, based on the fact that it looked like him and the fact that he was conveniently able to "fix" a water heater that wasn't broken (it's pretty clear that someone was turning it off on purpose) while conveniently "finding" a lost cell phone. So there was a rogue plumber going around haunting people. First, he haunted the red-head with Alzheimer's disease. I'm pretty sure the plumber killed her husband and sort of took her husband's place in her life, going with her to the open house and such. And, since she wasn't all there, he didn't have to worry about her telling anyone about him. Sometimes, the red-head had moments of fear when she realized she was being haunted. But even then, her thinking wasn't very clear, which is why she was afraid of Logan when she showed up outside Logan's house and was like, "Who are you? What do you want? Leave us alone!" Finally, the plumber left the red-head (which is why she looked so at peace the last time we saw her) and started haunting the main characters of this movie. The red-head talked about how "WE wanted to come see the house one last time," referring to the house the mother-son duo were living in. So I figure the red-head and the plumber were fond of the house, and that's why it was personal for the plumber to kill the people taking it over. I think the plumber DID find a spare key lying around and only haunted the house when he thought it would scare Logan and his mom the most. It's really far-fetched and not in a good way. In a bad way. So it doesn't really matter. I just posted a review of this movie on my channel, but I didn't explain my theory quite as well there.
I was thinking the plumber as well for many of the same reasons. It's a stretch to have him in there for the sole purpose of explaining the woman's Alzheimer's. It's a shame, there was potential here but the writers missed.
I'm just going to assume a second movie is coming out. There are way too many holes in this movie unanswered. This movie could've been taken in SOOOOOO MANY directions. And yet they didn't take on. 1 could've been a mob was after him that killed the father. 2 the lady's husband didn't actually die even though she does have Alzheimer's it could've been that she forgot to keep up the lie when giving them the banana bread. 3. Maybe the guy actually wanted the house but at a cheaper price so he killed the family to give it a bad rep. On another note the kid mentioned graduation approaching but didn't go to school once😕. After everything that happened that night the Mom still wanted to stay. This movie clearly wasn't thought out all the way
The absolute worst thing for me is, in horror movies that is, when characters don’t talk about the stuff they encounter. Like actual human beings. It destroys my immersion. This movie had potential.
Regarding the fact that you could call 911 without a sim card; That is great to know because I never knew that. Maybe Logan didn’t either. He was also in shock so he wasn’t thinking straight. So either that was a movie mistake or they intended for us to think that the kid had a chance to call the police but didn’t because he didn’t know he could without a sim card and that mistake alone cost him and his mom their lives. So basically that it was not a movie mistake rather Logan’s.
The cell phones I owned would say "No SIM card. Can only dial 0 or 911" on the lock screen whenever I got a new phone and I was doing a factory reset on the old phone after I had pulled the SIM card from it.
CandyMan Yo. Definitely feel they could have done more with. The movie. Life always had a meaning, just is what you make the meaning. Excellent point on the 911 sim call to.
The photograph was in the trash during his presence of the plumber in the house, he gave the cellphone to niaomi, saying that it was near heater. He knew the location of heater. He said, I am out here almost everyday. Same body built, dirty nails, etc. It's him.
Here is my theory. The Man in Black or Evil Boots is the plumber. 1. They have the same general big hulky physique. 2. The Plumber says he knows the house and the MIB definitely knows the layout as his sneaking is too good. 3. The Plumber says he fixed the water heater or whatever when we know for a fucking fact it's not broken and it was just MIB fucking with the family. So the Plumber is a fucking liar. 4. The Plumber "found" Logan's phone in the basement when we know it was stolen by the MIB. I think the Plumber stole the phone and used this house visit as an opportunity to "return" the phone and misdirect the family and prevent them from suspecting foul play. As for MIB's motivation? I think we can safely assume, as you already described, that MIB is a blue color worker who helped build these big mansions, but will never get to live in them. So I think he feels ownership over the house and is offended by someone else living there. Part of what makes me think this is Martha. Martha randomly showed up at night and yelled at Logan asking why he and his mom were living in the house. She said the house was hers. I think the Plumber is her husband that she keeps mentioning, and they both share in the delusion in thinking the house belongs to them. A large part of the movie is just MIB fucking with the family. I thought maybe the reason he was doing that was to get them to leave so he could squat there or something. Then the murder shit started. So I thought maybe he thinks that if a murder happens there, it's price will drop so low that he personally could afford to buy it. I kept checking the run time as I was watching and kept waiting for the movie to make a point. It never did. I had hoped that in the final minute they would do a time skip, show past headlines about the gruesome murders that happened there, and show the Plumber receiving the house's deed and moving in all smug and happy. but NoPE. I literally have no idea what this movie's message or theme is. So many things that were dropped never go anywhere. ex. Logan being a fast runner. You think at least he'd out run MIB. nope. he dies. That mysterious and creepy pile of wood in the basement? nothing. it meant nothing. the broken basement step? nope. the mom's nosebleed? meaningless. any kind of anything having to do with the dad's death? nope. the mom's sister being so rich she has a second mountain house while her sis is about to be evicted? never discussed why that is. talking about their debt and winning the lottery? nope. Alzheimer lady? the mom's photography? the absurdly shitty police? is it a town conspiracy? nope. nothing means anything in this fucking movie. complete waste of time. also, MIB would have poked Logan's eyes out if he actually tried to remove his contacts like that. completely stupid. I hate this movie.
I remember looking at the ratings on google before watching it and seeing that they were bad, but for some reason I continued to look at it, hated everything about it, and now I feel stupid and robbed of my time.
I actually watched it before seeing reviews because I was clickbaited by a trailer. The trailer looks great but the movie is a fatass L. First 20-30 minutes is good and had it kept the pacing in it then I’d highly recommend the movie
Because it makes them believe oh I'll just get my phone and call the police but then the horror when they realize they can't, it's not that complicated
Well aren't there some open houses that people still live in? I thought it was just because the Mom's sister had 2 houses and was trying to sell that one. Movie was ok but the one scene that made me mad was when he was looking at the cell phones with no sim cards and you can see the alarm system keypad behind him.........couldnt he had used that to call the cops?
Yes, houses can be shown while the a family is still currently living there. When I was ten our landlord died and his son decided to sell the house we were renting. We had to not be there on certain days so he could show it to interested buyers. We were also shown several houses that still had people living in them while we were looking for a new house to live in.
In regards to the time he was out running...She woke him up at 1pm, and said he had slept all day, and that there was an open house in an hour. This seems to take place during or near winter, when the days are shorter, so it reasonably could have been dark by 5:30pm. That's under 4 hours, and we don't know that he was running the whole time.
Plot Possibilities: I feel the plot and story altogether would have been significantly been better if one thing was different. The dad's death wasn't an accident. In the first two scenes, Logan's parents were arguing about bills and their debt. In my opinion, if in the next scene, when the father was killed, it wasn't by accident. Like the father owed so much that maybe he burrowed dirty money from a dangerous loan shark. Killed by a hit and run instead of an accidental heart attack. And to add fuel to the flame the loan shark came after the rest of the family. Maybe he could have been sick in the head or that was one of the clauses in their agreement. "You don't pay, I kill you and your family." Maybe that he wanted to further the families tournament by reminding them what their father did. Any of these options would have been significantly better than the actual ending. An awesome ending could be that the loan shark frames Logan for killing niomi. Used the knife on Chris, maybe had worn gloves, then when Logan got his hands on it and when he stabbed his mother it appears Logan went crazy. His prints were all over the murder weapon and such. Another could be right before Logan gets murdered, the killer could say, "Your father's debt has now been paid." Or something along those lines. Idk I feel like any of these points would have proven interesting. Over all, though I enjoyed the acting at least, the whole plot and ending left me disappointed.
Creative Studios you’re right that’s what I was thinking like this couldn’t of been an accident of the fathers death. But you were on point. They should of hired you to write it
One of the worst “horror movies” I’ve ever seen, there literally wasn’t even a single jump scare in the movie because the awful camera work would take away any potential scare
Not having any jumpscares is almost always a good thing Definitely don’t like this one, mainly because it’s one of those “and then the bad guy won” movies
I wouldn’t say this one of the worst horror movies ever, maybe that you’ve ever seen but if you go back to the eighties and nineties there were some god awful ones, also look at some indie flicks, so yeah there are some hundreds of other horror movies that are worse then this
Blarg Blarg lol you're right. I mean why the fuck would they stay in the house. If that was me I would have hightailed it out of there and went to a homeless shelter.
Great analysis of the movie! I found it weird that the realtor assistant was acting strange and ran out of the house, almost freaked out.. like maybe he saw something? Was hoping that would have tied in somewhere in the movie
The photograph was in the trash during his presence of the plumber in the house, he gave the cellphone to niaomi, saying that it was near heater. He knew the location of heater. He said, I am out here almost everyday. Same body built, dirty nails, etc. It's him.
This is the first scary movie that I’ve seen where the main character dies. Through the movie I was thinking “Oh Chris, Martha, and Niomi are gonna die.” (Martha doesn’t die I know.) But then everyone died. It just surprised me.
I thought if he pour gasoline on him, why not light him on fire? It's WATER!? No wonder he didn't light him on fire. Still have many question....like why he let him run into the forest if he gonna kill him later anyway. Time wasted.
my question is why was chris so suspicious around the basement and why did he want to see it so bad and what's up with damn martha? someone plz explain i'm confused
Am I the only one who thought he was gonna claw his eyes out instead of....... _removing his eye contact?????_
Lawful evil individual
Cause Logan was really the killer
SAME
That was very cruel and evil
lmaoooo me too
To sum up the movie:
A troubled family that experienced an accident, moved to a temporary new house and got killed, the end.
Niiice
You summed it up well in just one sentence
Yep. That's literally all that happened. Nothing mattered, nobody mattered, and there was no motive or closure. An exercise in absolutely pointless filmmaking.
You forgot to explain who the killer was. But it's okay, the movie forgot too.
The mom: oh no, stuff was moved, this was opened, the house was broken into;weird shit has been happening ...let's stay here another night.
And that was the last mistake she would ever make...🙄

Joanna sooo.. Who was it?
Ayushi Mishra Edward Olsen? Some older white guy, he’s been in a few other films too!
I googled it too. His character is credited as 'Evil Boots' lol.. What a piece of..
Wizz Dj honestly i have no idea why they took his face down? when i made this comment, i remember that you could clearly see him when you search for the cast of this film
Wizz Dj kinda ridiculous if that is the case lol but perhaps so
The killer is Hannah Baker
DioSundoro beat comment ever
Who is Hannah?
Bebbi Kumari it’s from 13 Reasons Why and the guy who plays Logan is one of the main characters
LOL
The killer did not put gasoline on him it was cold water so logan would be weak to save his mother
That makes way more sense, I was wondering what the point of the gas was if he wasn't going to light it
He was probably going to set the car on fire plus the killer was very smart
You mean to freeze
It actually probably was meant to be gas. It was water because it's messed up to pour actual gas on an actor.
Gasoline can actually cause Contact Frostbite in cold weather, the fact that it doesn't freeze as easily as water means that it can be as cold or colder than ice while still liquid. And when that super-cold gasoline comes into contact with warm human skin it begins to evaporate, which just makes the body temperature drop even faster.
@@alearnedman Good job combining the water and gasoline theories. This makes the most sense.
@@brianperez5638 could've been a wig as they only really saw his outline so to throw them off he wore a wig

I think it’s interesting that they build such amazing and beautiful basements in horror movies but they never think to put lights in there 🙃
I know right?! Like come on! And wth was those wood things blocking the basement about! like bruh, gimme my 2 hours back
Exactly what I said. Why is there never a dang light.
My house was built with no lights in the entire house EXCEPT for the basment
Stahhhhhp. You're making way too much sense. 😆
That was water he poured on him. Not gasoline. So when he woke up he'd be so cold that he couldn't fight back.
TadAustin2014 that’s actually pretty funny😁
I thought the same too
Defo water! I think it was the plumber
ok that actually makes sense
Yeah, even just out for several minutes you would likely start freezing
I'm like 99% sure that was water he poured on him, to make him freeze.
Jordy Reviews It yup it was . I thought it was gas at first but gas is def brownish this killer was freaking smart .
Adony Rios gasoline is actually a greenish yellow
Yes for sure...that's why he loured so much all over his skin especially. And, the color. And, Logan didn't even cough or choke which he would if it was gas. And why use gas if you're not going to set him on fire? No sense.
Jordy Reviews It he poured water on logan I THINK to make him forget everything
It was liquid nitrogen probably npt gas

yo, like no matter how angry, upset, drunk or high you are, never tell one of your remaining parents that you wish they'd died instead of the deceased one
**INDEED**
Be quiet
tbf she walked up on him and blamed him for her water problems attributing him for acting out because the dad died.
It comes from a lot of anger:( tbh I’ve thought it, but I don’t know if I’d ever say it. Only in my angriest moments
Plot twist: He killed them in the house to make the house cheaper due to the murders. At the end he goes back to the same house with the open house sign and stops to make sure it's Sunday because that's the day they were open, he goes and makes an offer and gets a great deal and everyone lives happily ever after!
Kiingliike The 6th Far better than the actual ending.
The photograph was in the trash during his presence of the plumber in the house, he gave the cellphone to niaomi, saying that it was near heater. He knew the location of heater. He said, I am out here almost everyday. Same body built, dirty nails, etc. It's him.
@@Scooby-Doo24 good theory! What's his motive tho?
Black Ops I agree that it's the plumber. I just stated that above, but I think so because the shot where we "almost" see his face totally reminded me of the plumber's face. And the boots are the type a plumber would wear.
Happily ever after except for the people who get brutally murdered 😂
when I watched this I was like
WHAT IS THAT ENDING?
The ending is the hard to swallow pill that love between a parent and a child is unconditional and that love between parents is conditional.
I thought it would have ended with Martha finding him on her morning stroll lol.
I think it would’ve been creepier if it was the ghost of the father. idk.
Or it was logan paul XD
i thought it was Martha husband as she coincidentally walked past blind Logan. Because although she had some sort of non permanent Dementia she was definitely faking it
"After all of that, he's dead!"
the kind of movies I really don't like to watch
It is depressing
Σκοτώνω Χαρά but it’s the closest to real life. In real life nobody would live. And I think that’s why they all died in the end.
GiDD yeah not all real life situations technically go “they all live happily ever after” after a murder and survive and tell the story
GiDD he’s a different breed of murderer lol
Not only am I forced to run around blind but I'm forced to run around blind with my eyes smarting and itching from someone removing my lenses with their dirty fingers. *cringes*
That scene was extremely unrealistic to me. If someone tried to pin me down to take out my contacts, I'm not just gonna lay there with my eyes wide open. I'm thrashing my head around and keeping my eyes shut, making it impossible for the killer to even touch them and giving me a chance to possibly get away
Oncerand_ Directioner true
Not only that but how does the killer knows that he is basically blind without them
Cristian Garcia he was in the house and probably knew. Also he took the glasses once
@@r5denmark so? Just cause he got glasses and contacts doesn't mean he's blind without them... there's no way for me to tell how bad a person's eye sight is just cause I know they use glasses

“They were just at the wrong place at a wrong time.”
Hmm now i’m lowkey thinking that it’s the milk’s faut at the beginning of the movie LMAO.
😂😂 I agree with this but it's just funny putting blame on non-living things. 'It was your fault milk that Logan and his family all died'
It is the milk's fault, that's all I kept thinking about.
I always knew milk is a monster!!
HAHAHHAHA
Butterfly affect bruh
Who puts gasoline on a person if they are not gonna burn the person? It was water.
I don't think it was gasoline, I think it was just water poured all over Logan in an attempt to make him freeze to death
It was to weaken him because really cold water can weaken a person to make jurrastic movement
You're all wrong, it was clearly Crystal Pepsi.
Guys it was cold outside, if you pour cold water on an unconscious person they get hypothermia quickly but don't die immediately, it was making him easier prey
Some types of gasoline actually freezes faster then water so he could have been trying to give him hypothermia

That was water not gas it was supposed to freeze logan
Yep
agreed
Also agreed
This movie was actually terrible. I just felt sad. The movie also felt empty and slightly random.

@@brentwhite3091 the movie had no point

I wish that I could like this twice
I honestly could watch him read a book for an hour and be satisfied.
cyanmanta although the movie is bad, he is the best part of the movie. He does the best with what he’s given
Bruh... he is pretty good in the movie. It's his character that isn't.
I thought it would have been cooler if people were using the foundation of the home for creepy rituals or something, trying to hide it from the homeowners, and the kid and his mom staying there unexpectedly complicated their routine.
chewface agreed
I had a couple of thoughts, killer was a hitman hired by someone the father may have owed money to, or it was the Alzheimer's ladies husband who also had dementia or something and thought he was a stalker.
I mean in real life random violence is more likely than vast conspiracies, but that doesn't make a good narrative.
chewface I agree there were too many unnecessary characters that had minimal impact on the movie except giving actors a job. Not saying it had to be a ghost story/haunted house, but just due to the unanswered questions which were many they could have made it a decent movie even without the reveal of the actual killer, but it was trying to do too much without revealing anything.
Your last paragraph would have been the perfect movie. great comment. 👍🏾
What if:
The plumber (yes, the guy who told Naomi about Martha's Alzheimer's disease) could have killed them.
Thought the same thing... Plus you see Martha out in the woods randomly as he's running away
That’s what I thought!
Whoever is was staying in Martha's house with her. The houses are connected, the big pile of wood in the basement is covering an entranceway.
I think he really is the killer because he found logan's phone in the basement he probably stole it and removed the sim card of the phone

you are 100% on the nose bud

Exactly what I thought.
Sukirina Daisuki yo ikr!!
This movie had potential. But definitely disappointed. Another instance where the trailer is better than the movie
First - A Quiet Place is not a remake and is a awesome movie, the lack of music i necessary for a movie that its premise is silence, the cgi is not Jurassic World, but is decent and is a great movie
Second - Open House has bad writing, don't make sense at all, all characters except Naiomi are pure trash including Logan, Evil Boots (the villain) don't make sense, it try to make what Strangers made better. Just see the reviews and i recomment to watch this video, it is for comedy but you gonna see the problem with this movie : th-cam.com/video/OR3f9pGXNpM/w-d-xo.html
(Edit: reviews are here: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_open_house_2018)
Arthur Lana Rola Gomes you are right. It's an adaptation. My bad. I'm not a review connoisseur. Ratings and reviews mean nothing to me behind a Hollywood machine. The Witch for example, it had not so good ratings in its first few weeks and I felt that film was absolutely amazing. Open house had some open holes in it, true. So did a quiet place. Questions unanswered. The ending was terrible and I was annoyed by the guilt dynamic.
We should have a horror movie where the characters all have common sense and the movie ends with no deaths 🤔😂 would be the greatest short film ever

THATS WHAT I THOUGHT
I thought the same
Yeh he is the killer
Ye exactly my thoughts
Andres Bustamante police really are like that. Have you ever experienced anything that needs police help?
Even with SIM card removed you can still call the police
Um no u can’t the you need a SIM card to make calls because the SIM card is connected to the cell phone towerWithout the SIM card you can’t make calls.Unless your connected to WiFi but of course this movie never showed that WiFi existed.Or at least the house didn’t have WiFi
Yes you can call the police without a sim. It will literally say. No sim detected emergency calls only.
@@LittleNakedCat yeah i have seen it a lot in american movies and wondered the same. Here in the uk you can call emergency services where there is no service or sim cards
By law you still can call the emergency number
In most states cellphones have to make emergency phone with or without a sim even if the phone is locked there should always be a ways to call for help

Hey lmaoo
THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT
And now, finally, this movie just pissed me off cause the guy wasn't even a natural killer he was a psychopath! Also why would you let the guy run for hours AND HOW THE FUCK DID YOU KNOW WHERE LOGAN WAS! This movie straight pissed me OFF yo!
True! i feel like i wasted my time cause a lot of thing is not adding up. And we didn't get the reason for the killer to do those things, boring.
Maybe Martha told him who knows?
I don't think it was gasoline... I think it was just clean water and that the killer was hoping that the guy would freeze to death (as he almost did)
Having said that, how did the sister know somebody had broken into the house? It couldn't have been the police telling her because the mother and son called them only after they entered the house.
And doesn't the killer look like the guy who came to the house to fix the boiler?
It was the guy
And the guy had Logan's phone too
I thought the stuff the killer poured over Logan was ice water, not gasoline. Hence why he looked all cold and icy and stuff afterward. I could be wrong though, obviously this movie gave me exactly no help haha
CJ Van Meygaarden that’s what I thought also
Let's assume we're right then, I've been doing that for decades I'm still alive so it must be effective
It was cold water:))
It was cold water!
It's cold water... He was trying to freeze him to death
I was really hoping I missed something here because this is a totally unsatisfying ending.
Sooooooooo this movie was a steaming pile of shit then? Almost watched it.. Thanks for saving me the 2 hours.
Carl Boehm Watch A Nightmare on Elm street.
The end was horrific the actor pleading for his life was heartbreaking.
The killer was the neighbour's husband who is actually alive and it may be the plumber who visited to fix things
That's is the oy thing I could come up with myself
The killer was tall and built though. The plumber was also not so fit and the killer had to keep up with Logan who's on Olympic level running.
Martha was lying about his husband that he was dead maybe is that hint I think Martha and killer are together.
That would of been a great movie.. 😊
Augusta McWay They showed the killer mutiple times. It wasn't the plumber.
Augusta McWay true
Nikki Espinosa.Well it wasn't, he was taller than the plumber, and looked fairly different.
Exactly like “oh on my stuff moved by itself probably nothing” Like bruh U just had a open house. I'd been gone💀
The ending of this movie was so dissapointing 😑
Not to me Honestly it gave me the option to explore what happened also to make a video.
@@BeyondAnarchy no it sucked man
@@laaps8589 Sure Whatever you say
Regarding the fact that you could call 911 without a sim card; That is great to know because I never knew that. Maybe Logan didn’t either. He was also in shock so he wasn’t thinking straight. So either that was a movie mistake or they intended for us to think that the kid had a chance to call the police but didn’t because he didn’t know he could without a sim card and that mistake alone cost him and his mom their lives. So basically that it was not a movie mistake rather Logan’s.
There are several plot holes in this movie
The cell phones I owned would say "No SIM card. Can only dial 0 or 911" on the lock screen whenever I got a new phone and I was doing a factory reset on the old phone after I had pulled the SIM card from it.
What's a SIM card?

The photograph was in the trash during his presence of the plumber in the house, he gave the cellphone to niaomi, saying that it was near heater. He knew the location of heater. He said, I am out here almost everyday. Same body built, dirty nails, etc. It's him.

I did not like it . Like they both died . A total waste of time .
Delaney Wells I cant tell if you’re being serious or not
I love your dry sense of humor, it always cracks me up cause of how overdramatized most movies are
Here is my theory.
Maybe it’s an absurdism film like the play Waiting for Godot... it was never meant to make sense... 🤷🏻♀️

Why take the SIM card when you can take the entire phone?
Because it makes them believe oh I'll just get my phone and call the police but then the horror when they realize they can't, it's not that complicated
It amuses the killer when they realize they are in fact hopeless, and have no escape.

Well aren't there some open houses that people still live in? I thought it was just because the Mom's sister had 2 houses and was trying to sell that one. Yes, houses can be shown while the a family is still currently living there. When I was ten our landlord died and his son decided to sell the house we were renting. We had to not be there on certain days so he could show it to interested buyers. We were also shown several houses that still had people living in them while we were looking for a new house to live in.

Wow, this movie is a waste of time... Glad I watched this instead of the full movie...
Exactly.
From that moment on, I knew I had to suspend some belief to carry on with the movie!
In regards to the time he was out running...She woke him up at 1pm, and said he had slept all day, and that there was an open house in an hour. This seems to take place during or near winter, when the days are shorter, so it reasonably could have been dark by 5:30pm. That's under 4 hours, and we don't know that he was running the whole time.
im still confused how he ran for even tht long of time and somehow never made it to town
winters well he didn’t like the role and was mad at his mother at the moment....I’d say he planned on just being out the whole day.
Plot Possibilities:
I feel the plot and story altogether would have been significantly been better if one thing was different.

Not having any jumpscares is almost always a good thing
Definitely don’t like this one, mainly because it’s one of those “and then the bad guy won” movies
I wouldn’t say this one of the worst horror movies ever, maybe that you’ve ever seen but if you go back to the eighties and nineties there were some god awful ones, also look at some indie flicks, so yeah there are some hundreds of other horror movies that are worse then this
