- It was a wild gaming year for me! Here’s my gaming year in review-and this doesn’t even include the wonderful interviews I did, or my time at PAXU!

So much fun this year! I had a blast GMing a bunch of games, notably Dungeon World and 13th Age, though also the 5e game I'm GMing for an after school club at the local middle school. I also got to play Magical Kitties Save the Day, which uses a d6 dice pool system and is a lot of cozy fun. With 13th Age, I generally agree with you. What I end up really liking about the system is the escalation die and the background skill system. Some of the classes are pretty cool as you get into them a bit more too.
For next year, I'm looking forward to more DMing and hopefully playing in some new (to me) systems.
I will gladly hand over most of the Monday GM duties!
And that was the thing about 13th Age, non combat was so much fun because the characters have a ton to work off of..but combat was just…meh.
Can't wait for it. It will be fun to run my system in person

I keep bouncing off Powered by the Apocalypse, because I haven't had a chance to play it. I've read several games, but it was only a couple months ago, while reading Thirsty Sword Lesbians, that I felt like I made a breakthrough. That game has the best explanation of the system I've read so far. But I still feel like I need to play it to really "get" it.
Yah, there’s a lot of assumptions about people understanding how PBtA works in the games I read.
@@DMTalesTTRPG - That is actually a real issue with how many games explain themselves within the PbtA sphere. Many of them sort of assume you have read Apocalypse World or Blades in the Dark. I found that Ironsworn had a pretty good explanation. And Thirsty Sword Lesbians is on my list to check out at some point!

I'm so happy to hear about what sounds like a wonderful year of games! Some games don't last but seven sessions is pretty impressive even if it's always disappointing to see games wind down.
It's awesome that BFRPG has the pride of place as an old school D&D game. That's where my heart is. Also Fantastic that you get to try other fun systems too.
I've had a bit quieter year in games, but there's still some goings on. We've done GMless Cyberpunk, tried and failed at GMless Coriolis, done a bit of DCC funnel. I just got back to my solo Dolmenwood games and have plans on continuing my Dolmenwood /Hole in the Oak adventure with my wife. The third Dolmenwood game I've been most excited about has been slow going and unfortunately will be taking a break now.
I'm looking forward to finishing our 5e game in favor of some more Dolmenwood fun but I'm proud of myself for keeping at it until we can finish it at a campaign end point before Spring perhaps. 😁
Also as a player I'm playing a shy elf in one game and learning to hold back a bit my eagerness to get on with things and seeing if other players step up more to take the lead. It's been fun for me and not as difficult as I thought. I still occasionally have to make sure the game is moving somewhere 😅
First, thank you so much. Second, I have never played a GMless game because…it just feels odd to me…Coriolis is a game that’s on my shelf that I need to re-read for a review (like so many other games on my shelf).
It’s very cool to play a character that’s not typically the type you play, shifting the experience is a blast!
@@DMTalesTTRPG Yeah. I certainly have a type 😄 Partly because I have difficulty keeping focused and engaged unless I'm really active in the game. So I especially tend to make the speaker of the group. It would be fun to play more shorter campaigns and go crazy with the character or maybe a system where you randomize the character.
GMless was a very interesting experience and I think we'll be doing more of that. It worked well in Cyberpunk where I think we had more of a shared vision of genre tropes and such but it was trickier in space scifi and specifically Coriolis as a very particular setting.
Where will this convention take place? If you're relatively close, I would totally GM some games!

Yuppers…and it was linked to a trade guild that was part of the faith the party’s cleric had been part of origionally.
It all started because one player got out of his comfort zone and decided to take a spotlight moment. He found what passed for a seedy bar in the elf’s city, ordered a beer, and then went, “So, what’s happening around here?”
I’m not even obfuscating the statment, that’s what he said.
