DM Tales

Over the pandemic I rejoined the TTRPG world after decades away. I was hooked. Six months in I began pondering setting up my own campaign and running it for my neighbors!
DM Tales is an exploration of the tools I’ve used, and the experiences I’ve had, as a GM.
And reviews, LOTS of reviews.

Had to put that jab in about glossy paper, didn't you!!! =P Always nice to see all the indie games. So many out there!
Glossy paper gives me a headache!
Love the indie game folks.
They were a lot of fun.
This video series is great! Thanks for doing this for everyone that wasn't able to make it.
Thank you very much! I’m am glad you’re enjoying it and hope one day you can come and enjoy!
How do they taste ?
It really depends on the wood. I find the oak has a nice finish.
@ don’t forget to wash it down with sap .
Will do!
very nice. Donuts are a great pastry. Fun dice tower too.
Yup!!
very cool
Yup!
That's fun.
The mimic ones!
Oh I love the look of those cards
They make such cool stuff. I need to pick up the town and dungeon morphs.
Wes trying to throw people off with fancy words!!! Great system, great setting.
What fancy word???
@@DMTalesTTRPG it wasn't that fancy, but it threw him off at the start. talking about him expanding to another setting =P
Ahhhhh
Great video. Don't know much about this system but definitely gonna look into it especially with the cool IPs and that really interesting Vault book.
Thanks! Yah, from what I know it’s a streamlined d20 modern, everyone I know who has played it LOVES it.
Cool. 👍
Thanks for watching.
Evil Genius are pretty interesting. I know Avenue Studios liked their everyday heroes a lot. Nice interview again! Lots of interesting products.
Yah. Jacob was the one who handed the Highlander book to Haley!
Car wars is great .
I have never played!!!
I don't know for sure that I'm truly introverted, but I genuinely hate crowds. I worked as a PE teacher, occasionally dealing with as many as fifty students at a time. The way I deal with it is to consider every interaction a one to one action. When I spoke to the class, I spoke to ONE class. If a student had a question, I was dealing with ONE student. I think the worst part of crowds in a social setting is the expectation that you're supposed to be engaging with a lot of people. That is never my goal. I can't have a meaningful conversation with more than two or three people at a time; one is best. I'm glad that it went well for you.
It sounds like introversion to me! I use a lot of the same strategies. I am, in fact, more comfortable speaking a large crowd all at once than I am bouncing between conversations at a party.
seems interesting, would certainly have to see it in play. Looking forward to you potentially reviewing it.
Oh a review is in queue.
I would love to go to PAX unplugged but, it being on the other side of the country makes it a lot more of a challenge for me.
Travel is expensive, true. It is a lot of fun if you ever can roll it into a longer vacation trip to the east coast.
Unfortunately the art for munchkin shadowrun, at least in the previews, is very un-munchkin. The munchkin brand works when you have a straight game, like Dnd, that people then munchkin the heck out of. Shadowrun is a classic example of that. The game is supposed to be about cyberpunk urban decay, haves vs havenots, the ultimate late stage capitalism as dog-eat-dog anarchy with a veneer over the rich parts. Then you layer on the magical elements to make a really complex setting. Then people turn up with their characters and it’s all munchkin twinky bs in the best possible way. Trolls with miniguns and emo elf samurai and anime ass physical adepts with monowhips. It’s the perfect munchkin setting. NONE of that comes out in the actual game they made. I don’t know if they’ve never played shadowrun, or the artist didn’t get it, or whatever. It’s just like…. Cartoon style drawings of vaguely cyberpunk stuff. The world was better when nerds who played the games were making these products. 😢
So have you played the game or just looked at preview images?
Very cool! I love Worldographer! It's extra neat for me because of the Mystara hex style ❤️
Yup!
Used to find public spaces overwhelming, but I found if I just occupied a space without anything to do for a little while my mind would settle into where I was a bit better and I could start to come up with thoughts more complicated than "I need to avoid all of this". I like all your ideas
I feel this. And yah, retreat space is good. Just having a “home base” shrinks things a bit. I’m fortunate that I’ve had access to the media room at PaxU when I’ve gone, it REALLY helps.
Ohh I did not get a chance to stop by Steve Jackson
Katie was a lot of fun to chat with. Put them on your “to see” card next year!
Yo this is awesome! Def going to get this! Great interview
It’s free to check out right now.
Could I bring my Sony handycam ?
I would expect nothing less.
@ excellent.
I now need to see this.

@ crazy
Much love to you, Wes! Thank you for the shout-out!
Right back at you, and I hope your first week was amazing!
You're a lovable dingbat
Thanks!
I am really excited to get Outgunned in my hands! There are lot of fun ideas in that game system.
I was going to buy a copy and have them sign it! and dumb schedule…
Great review! I don’t see myself ever going to PAX U so I’m glad to experience it vicariously through you.
If you came I think you’d have a blast but it is big.
At least your trying to kill characters not players, progress not perfection 😂
I was careful with my wording…this time.
Hmm. Not sure I'll be able to do a November visit for PAXU. I'll have to look into that. This year's early December would have been perfect if we hadn't had the surprise need to move in October, which forced us to scrap most of our late-year travel plans. The crowd thing is definitely something I need to consider, and will try to take your advice on.
Usually it’s the first weekend in December, so hopefully in the future. It IS fun, plan to have a con-buddy and make a plan and you’ll be golden.
And we’ve got PAGE in January and Ecclesicon in March!
@@DMTalesTTRPG , ironically enough, after having to cancel out December Philly weekend, my wife & I are taking the train up to Philly at the time PAGE is happening. We don't really want to be in DC right then for...reasons. But, we'll be doing some sight-seeing in the city core. We're only there for a couple days, so not likely to head out into the suburbs for a con. Ecclesicon is tempting, but it's both my birthday weekend, and right at the beginning of my wife's busiest work season, so I don't think we'll be traveling. I'm definitely going to have to get more comfortable and confident with solo travel, as I can get to DC's Union Station pretty easily now, so it really wouldn't be that out of the question to hop a train up to Philly. I'm just WAY more comfortable with a travel buddy, and right now, the only one I have is my wife. I'm hoping I can make myself go to AwesomeCon here in DC this year. Though it's much earlier this year. I think it usually happened in June or July, but this year it's going to be in April. Last year I had too much going on, and they waited so long to announce the RPG event schedule that it was kinda too late for me to make plans to go for anything specific, if I'd been able to go at all. Fingers crossed this year will work out better. Especially since getting there is MUCH easier for me than it used to be. I don't think WashingCon is coming back. It was game-focused, as opposed to the celebrity & comics W/gaming of AwesomeCon.
I understand. Be well and I hope you do get to a fun con!
What are the crowds like for PAXU? I've always avoided GenCon because I hear it's just getting huge..
It was sold out this year and everyone I know who has been to GenCon said it’s no where near as nuts. I was ok, which is saying a lot even if it was year 3 for me and I know the lay of the land.
I might fly next year
It might be wise. If only you knew someone who could pick you up from the airport.
Sounds like you have fun. I am hoping to have more time next year
I really enjoy hanging with you at conventions!
We’d love for you to check out and review Alloyed RPG!
I do believe I got the quickstart guide downloaded!
sounds like a very ambitious project. Will certainly keep an eye on it. Thanks for telling us about it via the interview.
My pleasure.
This is so cool I didnt know CYOA was still going strong!
I was so psyched!
This was great!
Thanks!
Another great interview! Always like seeing people working with artists and excited about the artists themselves. Also sounds like some interesting games! Nature based is fun too.
They are some really interesting games. Leaves may be one I need to pick up.
Make like a tree and leave .
I had no idea what you were talking about…and then…ohhhhh. I can always count on you.
@ lol.
thanks for the review - I heard another reviewer state that the "minions" section was a bit lack luster....would a GM be able to simply pull other low level enemies from other companions (Say, pulp or deadlands) and slip those enemy types into Superheroes for more minion options? Or would the rules not sync well? Any advice is appreciated!
I don’t have the other books so O can’t really say. Which means I need to purchase more books. Drat. Sorry I can’t answer right now.
Nice interview, great job Wes. 😊
Thank you very much. He was very kind.
Really cool 😎
I got it…wow
I had the d&d versions.
Yup, I had some as well.
@ I think they were called endless quest.
@ you are correct!
Matt is wearing a rip city hat. Is he originally from Portland Oregon ?
I do not know!
Closest Basketball team from where his spawn point was
Sean ( mage’s musings ) would like Tolkien with puppets.
It seems like a good fit, yes!
It was such a pleasure to meet you, Wes, and to attend our first PAX! Thanks for helping spread the word :) We are SO looking forward to attending again next year-what an incredible audience!!
Thank you so much. See you next year, and please stay in touch!
Anything that gets kids reading is GREAT stuff. Glad to see they're back. All the best Wes.
You are so right! And thank you!
So cool! They seem like nice folks.
They could not have been more gracious.
Wait what!! This sounds really fun! Happy holidays everyone!
It is so absurd! I love it!
