Whilst visiting Deal And Drive in Luxembourg, I jump in a McLaren 620R to pick up pizzas for the team.

The McLaren 620R is a unique proposition, delivering a pure motorsport experience in a road car with authenticity: it looks like a race car, handles like a race car, performs like a race car and feels like a race car. The result overall is a seamless transition from race to road - and vice versa. Exclusive and extreme in equal measure, the McLaren 620R retains the DNA of a fully homologated track car yet is free from the restrictions that race regulations apply.
A high level of commonality with a 570S GT4 race car has been integral to the development of the 620R from very outset. They have the same, single-piece carbon fibre Monocell II chassis providing the foundations for the strength and light weight of the car, with a targeted lightest dry weight of 1,282kg. This carbon fibre core - a McLaren signature that in different guises features in every car in the company’s range - also underpins the dynamic precision and composure for which McLarens are renowned. These characteristics have been enhanced in the 620R by the inclusion of the GT4’s adjustable aerodynamic elements, race-derived suspension components and powertrain recalibration to increase power and performance.
The 620R has the same M838TE 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine used in the GT4 car, but with a significant difference in power output; freedom from racing regulations has allowed the engine ECU and turbocharger management to be reconfigured to achieve 620PS (610bhp), making this the most powerful Sports Series car yet. The engine also develops torque of 620Nm (457lb ft) and even with lap times more important than sheer top speed, the combined outputs helps to deliver benchmark performance figures of 0-100km/h (62mph) in 2.9 seconds and 0-200km/h (124mph) in 8.1 seconds. Maximum speed is 322km/h (200mph).
The use of stiffer powertrain mounts reduces drivetrain forces under acceleration, minimising the effect of inertia under high load, while the 7-speed Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) delivers super-fast shift times, further aided in Track model by McLaren’s Inertia Push technology, which converts built-up flywheel energy into a momentary burst of torque on upshift. For added drama on the road the driver can select Sport mode and hear the upshift ‘crack’ created by a split-second cut of the ignition spark during a gearshift.
Fitment of the GT4’s two-way manually adjustable coilover motorsport dampers, which feature 32 clicks of adjustment per corner for compression and rebound rates, adds to the 620R’s motorsport credentials. These enable the driver to optimise the 602R’s handling for any given circuit according to track surface, camber, weather conditions and the type and frequency of corners. Drivers can also adjust the suspension to their driving style, choosing for example a preference for precise body control or the ability to ride kerbs. The dampers also help to bring weight down overall, being more than 6kg lighter than the regular Sports Series units.

Cool car! I love driving through Lux City! I lived just over the border in Trier, Germany. We went to Luxembourg all the time to get gas, alcohol and cigarettes for anyone who smoked. Less expensive. Taxes, not sure if it's still that way. I moved back to US in 96. so....

True but they try to achieve a very different goal with their videos. STG is all about the experience you get when you are in and around special cars and Same is more about showing everything about as many cars as possible
Robert Mitchell has some interesting comments about maintenance on his 620R on Misha’s channel. Something about catalytic converters a needing replacement at ridiculously low miles.

You and Vehicle Virgins live in lala land. You both live in a fantasy world of cars that most of us can only imagine where you get to drive or own these cars. A lot of people are struggling right now and some of us can barely keep our cars on the road. And with the push to electric, these cars will only be owned by the very wealthy. But it's cool to see them and dream. FYI...always set pizzas on the floor. They are still angled on a seat. Especially those!

It's funny how people react in Luxembourg when they see a supercar vs a TH-camr. Supercars are kinda a norm here, in my apartment building alone (20 or so parking spaces), there's a RS6, 992 GT3, Alpina B5, and a couple 911's. And in the neighbouring apartment building I've seen a Urus, Huracan SV, and GT2RS. Whereas TH-camrs or just people filming themselves in general is very rare here. I reckon you were the centre of everyone's attention hahaha. Hope to see you back in Lux filming more content!

I’ve worked out why the fuel economy in the RS6 is so appaling…… change up earlier! I’m guessing the DRL’s look like they are flashing because of the frame rate. Very irritating!

C'mon now sam. This isn't a race car, it's a 600 LT with some options (such as the air intake), and some nice bits tacked on top. The reason you're surprised and it's not as bad as thought - is because it's just a road car, albeit a track focused one. If you want to know what happens when Mclaren want to make an actual race car freed from regulations, look at the 720S GT3X. That's a race car ... because it's not road legal.
It is race car-esk it's not close to the race car let's be honest - have you ever driven a 650 gt3 car?
Any STG fans please watch Robert Mitchell’s channel for proper 620R content. This video just dosen’t do justice for this specific model of the sport series. We all love Sam but he is not the one to look out for when we need to see a test for a track McLaren.

Confused by McLaren - what a silly comment - just because you love Ferrari try not to make stupid comments about other brands - if your confused by McLaren but not all the current Ferrari brands then you are clearly just being biased if not Influenced to stay in the good books of a certain Italian brand!!

@@seenthroughglass You say free content but I pay for TH-cam Premium to skip any ads but they increasingly get added in videos. Part of reason I like YT Premium is it pays creators more.
You do realise that having ads enables Sam to give us more high quality content that we can still enjoy for free even without youtube premium, I gladly watch 1-2 30 sec adds with a sponsor in the video if that means we got more of these videos
