Stupid comment. Why be political? Stick to ATC.
@basfinnis - How is he being political? He is stating the truth.
@@basfinnis Explain what is political about that.
@@basfinnisthis video is ATC. Did you watch it at all?
I don't think you can characterize them as upset. They all seemed calm and professional.
Annoyed would be a closer description.
wisely, no one makes any overt remarks, because we are now seeing how the various agencies viciously come after anyone who speaks out....... It's the new American way!
You can hear it in the voices. Annoyed, as I would be.
You can characterize anyone as upset.
Agreed. Just like ahhh f’. lol
Well I know from personal experience how disruptive the President can be to freeway traffic, so I imagine air traffic experiences similar troubles.
Ironically when then President Obama visited Tokyo, traffic got better for the days he was in town. Everyone was encouraged to use public transport and most did. Easiest driving on those days. :-)
@@North_West1 Same when the Olympics were in Los Angeles.... lol, but when he drove through Portland Oregon they must not have put out the memo.
How disruptive can a President be to Humanity? We are testing the limit right now
Yes, we are with a crooked expresident...

AF 1 contact departure is the best radio transmission an airport manager can hear as the walk on eggshells VIP movement is over. Takes days to set up for AF 1 at airport, takes about an hour to tear it all down.

I really don't hear any upset pilots. But then again........everyone's threshold is different.
Yeah, the title was very misleading.
they're low key upset
I don't think they care unless they're on the last leg of a 4-day trip. They're still blocking time and getting paid sitting on a taxiway waiting to depart. Ez money. 😂
Happened to me once on connecting flight in PHL. 1st leg ground stopped on taxiway at BOS for VIP arrival in PHL. 2nd leg ground stopped on taxiway in PHL for departing VIP. When ops resumed the captain said "the good news is depatures have resumed. The bad news is we are about #48 in line." Unfortunately he was barely exaggerating.
Remember years ago I was supposed to depart from Chicago, and saw the VC-25B (that 747) on the ramp when I arrived at the airport. While my flight was already on the taxi way and pilots already said "cabin crew prepare to take off", the plane suddenly took a turn and shot off its engines then pilots came one and said we have a delay. I chuckled and said the president is also leaving... some passengers wondered how I know that, and I explained I saw the plane, while others looked up on their phone and confirmed president was visiting.
And moments later a shadow flew by our plane, and we get back on our way right away.
Yeah upset is a strong word but you can tell they were annoyed. “Says it all” was the give away.
Flying over Rockford Illinois years ago when Obama had a moving bus trip and the TFR was changing by the minute. Never heard a controller so busy trying to get planes around that clusterf$c, including me
It's always a pain, but what are you gonna do? I've experienced far worse delays because of this and nobody here really sounded upset.
Always gets me that the name everyone refers to them by is also their callsign. Pilot sounded very nice and respectful
What do you mean by that always gets you? I don't see what's so significant about it.
Yeah, because hes living a life of apology. Id be sorry too if I were them. Our privileged white male president is an asshat.
Everyone refers to them by that because it is their callsign?
Polite, respectful....and incomplete in his readback. While his "acknowledge" is completely legal, it wasn't helpful.
@@rk5634 I assume he means that in every culture, everyday people all call it Air Force 1, instead of the presidential plane, for instance. It is probably the only callsign 99% of people will ever know.

You don't have to sound mad to be considered upset. Everyone here just sounds a bit lethargic.
Because upset isn't a sound, it's a feeling or emotion. You cannot hear feelings or emotions.
@@jerseyshoredroneservices225 You can hear it in the tension of the voice and in sighs, grunts, and various other body noises.
I like how Brickyard went low on fuel even before engine start up and departure! 😅
"Tower, we need landing vectors, we're here on the taxiway and low on fuel."
The contracting airlines are pushing these little buggers a lot further than they were intended. Look at the 737, built for milk runs and regional service, now fly transatlantic, and regularly fly to Hawaii.
It can happen when there’s a delay with departures. Planes usually don’t carry a lot of extra fuel as that would result in a higher fuel consumption and thus higher operating costs. It is pre-calculated how much fuel is needed to taxi to the runway, but if there’s a delay for something and they burn too much fuel, they might have less than what they legally need for departure and in that case they have to go back to the gate and refuel
He likely taxied out to a holding pad by the runway and was told to shut down the engines by ATC for an extensive delay (VIP movement as well as possibly weather). He was likely getting close to min fuel listed on the flight release for departure. If you are not able to takeoff before reaching that min fuel number, you have to either coordinate with dispatch to see if there is anything you can do to make the min fuel number lower (removing an alternate that’s not required or maybe taking a shorter route) or you have to return to the gate to be refueled.
I recently learned about the Gimley Glider...
In one unnamed African nation they close the airport and hour before and an hour after a VIP departure. I think the reasoning was because the capital city airport also served as an Air Force base and they didn't want to risk some pilot jumping in one of the rusty Mig-21s that hadn't moved in decades and chasing down and shooting down the VIP flight. Anyway VIP charter for some Vice President (who might have been the presidents son from memory) arrives about an hour before the pick up and gets refused any airspace clearance and threatened with shoot down. By what method is anyones guess but anyway had to divert and his Grand Exellency couldn't get picked up for his shopping holiday to France/Greece whatever because of their own rules.
1:36 should read 'can neither confirm nor deny' which is usually a sort of jokey comment about keeping a secret, so this reads as less annoyed than the current subtitle.
Once got denied my destination because a VIP TFR was going to go hot over it 45 minutes after my filed arrival, IFR. It was Bush and not long after 9/11 so should have expected it for a part 91 guy.
Mel Brooks said it. "It's good to be the king".
I was flying back in the day and we ended up with a 4hr delay because of Air Force One.

In US it's not even close to that delays)
In a couple African nations it's an hour or two either side. They're terrified of being shot down by their own air force if someone stages a coup.
I'd be annoyed if I had to be delayed for that too.
Can you imagine flying a potato around? Talk about embarrassing.
That sounded normal...
Everyone just sound just sound a bit lethargic, which is quite appropriate really.
Ive dealt with af1 a couple times. Once we delayed them (Obama) because of an active medevac mission and ive been last one in before Af2. They just dont want anything moving on the ground while af1 is landing or taking off. All the taxiways along the runway will have ops or police blocking them. Overall its not too terrible considering its our most valuable asset flying around.
I'm suddenly all a-fire with curiosity to know if any ATC has ever told AF1 to say when ready to copy a number....
I don’t see the need to maintain such aircraft separation, compared to closing roads for similar VIP movements. What’s the issue with being established on a 10 miles final with AF1 lining up?
It's all theatre. No real security by doing any of this.

Its more of a pain to shut down 139 miles
Shutting down Baltimore for any reason would be a blessing!

“AF1 cleared for takeoff. Get off my runway and leave my airspace.”
The guys didn't seem particularly upset, but I guess how much upset was in the air depends on Depends Force One.
Didn't really seem upset; they knew what was going on.
Unrelated: from some of the fuel calls one hears on these videos while planes are waiting to takeoff, the airlines sure don't provide any buffer. I get that it's to save weight/fuel, but some of the margins seem so small.
Airlines aren't required to plan the fuel for waiting time on the ground, only in the air. So nothing done wrong here.
I guarantee that the bean counters looked at the whole cost through their entire operation, the average taxi time, and decided that the cost of the occasional plane having to go back and top off was lower than the cost of dragging extra fuel around most of the time.
Does the pilot of AF 1 ever get a phone no. to call for a "possible pilot deviation," however improbable such an event might be?
Never. I’ve heard them cleared to land on 27L and they said, “No, we’re going to land on 27R.” Literally. They can do whatever they want.
They're all military men/women with 10+ years of service. These guys are sharp, procedures-oriented, and by-the-book.

Hasn't even taxied and already low on fuel 😳
They don't sound upset. Even if they're upset, they won't expose it all on ATC. :D
Who was upset?
Not sure about Upset...
Haha - in some countries I think the VIPs can take over scheduled pax service flights and just go on their shopping trip to france / doctors visit with the plane. Ouch if you were sitting there getting ready for takeoff. Or the plane is held for an hour or two - connections be damned :) Makes being competitive sometimes harder for the "flag" carriers. Air Zimbabwe I think had a few troubles as a state owned enterprise in part because of the government's "supervision". Hopefully they've sorted things out by now.
"What's our sequence? We're a little low on fuel, sorry." Wow he was so upset 🙄
Man, low on fuel and they haven't even departed yet? Doesn't seem like great planning there...
@@calcutronsmith9198 - They don't carry unlimited amount of fuel around like your car! They have a calculated amount with margin for a contingency landing. Extended idling on the taxiways will cut into that margin. Their planning enabled them to determine they were getting low on fuel. The more you know......
@@calcutronsmith9198 Usually mean, the Airline do the math for the fuel needed for the taxing, fly and for emergency divert, maybe a few gallons more... probably they were on the limit of those few gallons
@@calcutronsmith9198 "Low on fuel" meaning they likely planned for 20-30 minutes of taxi fuel and instead due to bad weather compounded by Air Force 1 movement, they are anticipating 45-50 minutes of taxi time. This lowers margins such that if they had to divert to a different destination they may risk getting into reserve fuel which would result in some paperwork with company. If they were truly in danger of literally running out of fuel in the air, they'd have returned to the gate by now.
I can neither confirm nor deny...

@tomvance - yep. Believe it or not the old flat blue bird of the Carolina's is still around, at least in name. USAirways kept it alive as a wholly owned subsidiary regional carrier. So now it is part of the AA group. They fly ERJS, used to be 145s. About 400 flights a day based out of the old USAir PHL and CLT hubs.
A little painful to think that I can remember ticketing a 727 flight with them back before USAir bought them. They were an awesome little airline.
@@lisanadinebaker5179 wow, I remember them flying from Richmond to Roanoke, 32 min, $99 round trip in the mid-80s.
@tom Vance - yep. They were 'regional' before it was a buzzword. They did a lot of those $99 rates, esp out of GSO.
Some people would argue that when USAir bought them and incorporated many of their best practices, it improved that airline exponentially. I lived in Pittsburgh at the time, and I definitely noticed a step change. USAIR kept customer service in Winston-Salem for many years but finally gave in and moved it.
FYI, the 400/day was the prepandemic number. They should be back up to at least that by now. More demand continues to fall to the regionals.
