I’m a landlord tenant attorney representing tenants who face eviction, and this whole situation made my skin crawl as in NY state this could have never happened. But I’m so impressed by your gratefulness and calmness in such a chaotic time. Also, since we’re moving out of state next summer (plenty of notice) I’m going to challenge myself to declutter enough that I could answer yes to this question eventually!!
Best of luck with the decluttering. It is well worth the work. Also, be prepared to declutter a bit more when you unpack at the new location! Happens every time!
I think this could happen anywhere. But the company (landlord) is to blame. The real owner of the property did everything right. They have no contract with Melissa and couldn't know. It sucks, and this is why in Germany at least you have the option to legally deny subletting in your rental agreements.
the video is probably a lie to get views and make money....only time a person is evicted in a day is if the building is condemned and they are only given a day to get out for safety reasons....
@@110311DONTWANTCHANNEexactly. Eviction requires notice, that's part of how squatters get to stay in residences while the owner has to become a landlord and evict someone. Either the sublease company was trying to scare them out or this is made up.
I really hope you were compensated for a mistake that was totally their fault! Kudos to your landlord for offering a solution, but you should be given free rent for at least a few months and a huge apology from everyone involved! Hats off to you and your fantastic family for all you do and share with us!❤😊🎉
The eviction process is not what your landlord said. First of all, you have to receive a "Notice To Quit." After that you have to be notified by the court to appear for a hearing, where you can plead your case before a Judge. If the court decides you have to move, you are typically given no less than 30 days to vacate the property. In total this entire process could take up to 90 days before a County Sheriff can physically remove your belongings. After hearing your situation, the Judge would have probably made the landlord compensate you for their error. Your landlord took advantage of the fact that you may not have known the processn and would be frightened enough to leave, no questions asked. I hope you received a generous discount on the rent on the Town House. I would hate to see you paying more for a larger space that you were forced into. Wish you had spoken with an attorney. This sounds like some sort of scam.
@detphemale, you are 100% right. Poor Marisa and her family were lied to and got steamrolled by this dishonest rental company. *Never* take a landlord's word for anything if it isn't in writing. Eviction can take a year or more. I have family and several friends who own rental properties. They've had to occasionally evict tenants for nonpayment of rent, destruction of property, uh, like a meth lab in the basement, etc. Marisa and her family did *nothing* wrong. The rental company could not have legally evicted them in the time they were told they had to leave.
I am assuming you are not in NC @detphemale. I received an eviction notice for none payment of rent: went to court confident with all my bank statements showing that I had paid Ron Brooks Real Estate for the 9 months they managed the apartment. I was evicted. Brooks said it must of been for a previous year when I did not pay. They had only managed the property for 9 months. The judge did not ask them for any proof; I was evicted & had to move out 2 weeks later. It was stressful to say the least.
Yeah, I know this, it makes me so mad... I'm just happy she's okay but it's good to know this for the future if someone tries to take advantage of you. That landlord is so cruel.
they did not do right to their wrong, they did not compensate for the stress, short notice, and inconvenience of moving like this. She should have sued them because this is far from ok..
@@marianned7139 within the bounds of realistic options, a new home on the same property is the best that could be done. even if there was monetary compensation, making everything perfectly equal & fair is impossible. that's life. marissa & her family handled this with grace.
Shame on the rental community for even threatening an eviction when it was their mistake. It’s their profession-they knew they were legally wrong to kick you out on such short notice.
I agree! It was their mess up so they should’ve been apologizing and giving accommodations. Unfortunately it’s all about the money. My guess is they got to charge higher rent.
Let's hope the family was well compensated for being so accommodating about the landlord's mistake. They (the landlord) dropped the ball several times and could have been in a jam. Tenants have rights.
For anybody reading this who may ever be faced with the threat of eviction - please don’t just take the landlord’s word for how it will go. In many US states and cities there is a court process before you’d ever find a sheriff’s deputy at your door. While the landlord was very nice and apologetic, they may also have not given you an accurate answer about how long you had to move.
Yep exactly. Even if the sheriff showed up, it’s not likely they would have done anything because the way they’re evicting them is straight up illegal.
@@meh5069 plus the sheriff only comes if the eviction notice has been served and you are still there after the period of time the eviction says. It's a big process and takes a lot longer than they want people to believe.
They were just bullying them. They would have had to go to court and through the process. It's not like they could just call the sheriff and send him over.
I'm a landlord, that is the law. The property management company absolutely bullied them to get them out. I'm just thankful they had another place for their family, otherwise I would have told them to go to a real estate attorney. Tenants have rights.
Probably here too. “Starting the eviction process” would be the very beginning of that 60 or whatever days they have. If they’re in IL I can’t imagine the laws not being in the tenant’s favor.
The landlord was counting on them being ignorant and afraid. Any judge, on hearing what went down, would find in their favor and probably order the landlord to compensate them financially for the stress and inconvenience.
This was a peaceful move, and it spared you and the boys the ugly memory of confrontation. You all got s larger place, in the same school district. I'm really happy for you. Sometimes it's OK to not fight back and insist on rights and fairness. Sometimes it's OK to be gracious, and move on. I'm glad your lifestyle allowed for a pretty quick move!
You two worked hard and seemed like you worked well together. Sometimes life isn’t easy, but you took care of the problem and got it done. And I’m totally impressed with the 5 star dinner on top of it all. Good job.
One of the first time I was able to fully appreciate the positive impact minimalism had for our family was when we were able to move from our apartment into our forever home in 1 day-with little stress because it was planned. That was my first fully minimalist move after moving more than 13 times. So sorry your family had to deal with that nightmare.
We would be able to move in one day as well. It would be a full day, but possible. So long as we packed up everything slowly over a week. We could easily do it in one day, but with children with disabilities, and myself having disabilities, and pets to move, it would be much smoother doing it slowly. We would need a truck though, as we would have to include furniture. The biggest jobs would be the shed and my vast Lego collection, everything else is very simple.
I cannot believe they'd have the nerve to get the sheriff's office involved when you had literally no notice and it was clearly their fault. Horrible! On another note, I've had the personal goal of reducing my belongings down to the point where I could feasibly pack my apartment in one day if I were to move. I think right now I've reduced it enough where I could easily pack it up in a weekend, but it was great to see that among the four of you you managed to do it in 6 hours. Gives me hope that I am close to meeting that goal.
This brings me back to early this summer when my mom's assisted living center sent me an eviction notice for her to move out within 30 days and move all of her belongings. They told me she would need to be placed with family if I did not find a new facility for her. Thankfully, I kept her room quite minimal and organized so I was able to move her items quite easily. That was the easier end of things bc finding her a new home to meet her needs was a massive undertaking. I had thar same feeling of her being wronged bc they were evicted her over "falling" she would often sit on things that were not actually for sitting and fall onto her bottom onto the floor. Thankfully she is somewhere with great care and it all worked out.
I'm so sorry that happened to you, I'm helping to care for my older parents and you just have no training for what is to come. Glad she's in a safer place and it all worked out in the end! ❤
I know you'won't see this comment but thanks for making these videos. I've been battle a deep depression and decided to declutter my home as part of my treatment. I'm a single gen x man and these are great to watch as motivation while I get my home into shape.
Go you! Decluttering is a wonderful act of self care as part of your healing journey! You deserve a home which represents how you want to feel. Go at a pace that feels right for you (with extra grace for yourself when some days are faster than other days) and know that you'll get there! Incase it helps, you might (or might not!) also enjoy videos by Joshua Becker, Matt D'Avella, Ronald L. I just have to say, that despite the shock and stress you two must have been experiencing in the first moment, it actually looks like you upgraded into a much nicer home! So apart from your choice to live a minimalist lifestyle which saved you from a ton of chaos in this situation, this home upgrade can also be something to be grateful for!

Mistakes happen, and I'm just glad everything turned out okay! 🙏
What happened to you guys is horrible and barely sounds legal. Assuming it is like you said, I wonder if there's still grounds for a lawsuit (not that that's ideal obviously). I hope they at least offered you a free month of rent or something for the trouble
This mindset of moving quickly and easily is what motivates me to stay minimal. After some huge losses (home, health) I decluttered for a year to become comfortable with the ability to make a life decision fast. I am so much happier! Glad yall have a safe home.
@@gretaadams5392 I looked at my belongings and thought, "if I had to move into a studio apartment tomorrow, what would I need?" A comfortable bed. A good coffee maker. A nice chair to sit in. Family photos and a few pieces of Art. A nice lamp for cozy evenings. That's it. Then I slowly started removing anything that wouldn't fit into that imaginary studio apartment.
I don’t understand how a contract between two completely different parties can supersede a contract you have, but I can appreciate that not everyone wants to put every detail online. That said, I am amazed that they didn’t offer, much less weren’t required, to cover moving fees. I’m amazed you weren’t authorized to rent a van or a truck to move things. I’m amazed there weren’t any people working in the office who could come help pack and carry. It’s really hard to know what we would have done in the same situation without so many critical details, but I’m going to guess that you are more forgiving and more easy-going people than we are. :)
Wow, Marissa, you handled this like a goddess. No one should have to go through what you went through, but you and your family impressively rose to the challenge like champs. Btw, I've moved 30 times in my adult life. Some were small and easy, but 4 were cross-country and back again. One of those was very sudden, requiring us to jettison more than half of our belongings, and then even more after we arrived. I feel you on this one, for sure!
You guys rock! I’ve been in my house for 32 years and have had a home daycare for 16 years. I’m trying to be clutter free in 2023. Working on going room by room decluttering, cleaning and organizing. 🥰
We have been in our home 38 years, and in 2023 I have cleaned out, sent to thrift stores, given away, thrown away at least half of what we have in the house. I spend a couple hours at it every day, one closet, one corner, one box at a time. Feels so good to have it gone!
Hugs and high fives on your behavior and not having clutter to pack up -shame on the others involved causing you this enormous stress -way to go girl !!
Wow!! You and the fam handled that with TOTAL grace!! You presented this very well and with such dignity. Don’t think I would be able to do the same if presented with a like situation!! Your an amazing woman and mom. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all. It gives us a reminder to maintain our integrity even in the face of hard opposition
Hi Marissa. That's very unfortunate, mistakes happen, but they should have given you and your family more time. If I had made that mistake, the least I could do is offer to help you with the move, and my vehicle and moving carts/supplies. So happy that your years of minimalistic practice and training prepared you and your family for situations like this. It can feel unsettling when something like this happened, but have a good rest and take care day by day. (I am in a housing transition myself where there are uncertainties, but I do my best to just living day by day.)
Wow, impressive moving skills. When my MIL passed on I took care of emptying and cleaning her home. She lived a teeny tiny life, but it still took me two 12 hour days to manage her belongings and make trips to Salvation Army. You don’t realize how much you own until you have to move it.
What a horrible, horrible situation to be put in!! Especially when it affects your whole family and there are children involved. The person showed good faith in finding a place for you, but I would still look for some compensation, as that seems an easy way for them to wash their hands off someone's huge mistake. A big hug to you! So glad you were able to support each other and do what needed to be done. Best wishes! 💟
Through minimalism you also achieved the mindset of stoicism, accepting things completely out of your control. I commend you for doing the very best for your children through something scary. Look how sweet they are letting you know the meal you prepared them through trauma and exhaustion is a 5 out of 5. Minimalism helps families come together.
Holy Moly! That was a crazy situation! When I was 8 months pregnant with my 2nd baby, we decided to move to the duplex next door (much better yard for kids). It was a mirror of our place. I organized every space in the house into containers that could be relocated to the exact same spot in the new place. I was able to do this over a few weeks, slowly so that I wouldn't get too worn out. The evening of the move was all planned. Family would arrive at 5:00 and we would spend a few hours moving everything. Well, kind neighbors showed up and they had everything done by 5:30! When the family members showed up a little late, it was already done! Good thing it was an easy move, because I went into labor early the next morning and gave birth to a healthy baby girl! That was 36 years ago this week. Unfortunately, we are typical Boomers with waaaay too much stuff and I have been working on becoming a much more minimal person. Thanks for you inspirational videos!
This is impressive, 6 hours to pack a family's life! I've moved 10 times back and forth overseas, with only a couple of suitcases (since that is the airline's limit), but every single time I spent at least a couple of days to pack and clean. The unpacking always takes longer for some reason... you guys rock
I'm in awe of the grace with which you handled this situation. Truly inspiring. My clothes moving hack is to lift a contractor trash bag up over hanging clothes, tie at the top, and move in several units. They are easy to hang right back up in the new place. I am working from organized maximalism through simplicity and looking forward to minialism. 😊 I think I could move in a weekend, maybe...
So sorry you all went through that! I would be terrified to sign another contract with the same landlord but I understand your reasons for doing so. I hope the townhouse works out and hope you all find a great home of your own soon! 🩵
I also would not have trusted the same landlord a second time. What if tomorrow she tells them they have 6 hours to leave this house? Uh-uh. I'm so angry Marisa's family had to go through this. It never should have happened.
Wow, I went through a whirlwind of emotions watching this video. Props to you and your husband for holding it together. Also, your son's 5* review of your oven-baked salmon melted my heart. I hope to someday have a wholesome family like yours 😄Yay for a happy ending!
Wow! You would not believe what a powerful effect this video had on me (and lots of others, I am sure). It left me numb at just the thought of being in your shoes. But now I am figuring out how your hard lesson can help me be ready and able to handle it as you did. Thanks for sharing!!❤
I’m someone who strongly believes in leaving things better than I found them but under these circumstances I would not have cleaned! The least they could do is pay for a movers and a cleaning crew. You’re a champ!
Such a helpful message. Blessings to you and your adaptable family. The boys are a credit to you both on their characters at making challenges look resolvable. ❤
Absolutely crazy! So incredibly stressful but glad you and your husband were able to work it out. I personally have moved so many times I can't even remember all the moves! I used to keep count and track the addresses but gave up. To be fair I spent some time in the military but moving then was easy because I never owned more than I could carry in my car. Every where I moved had furnished bachelor officer quarters and many times I was only there for only 3 months. After I left the military I still owned nothing but my car. When I started buying furniture moves became more difficult. When I started buying homes and married even worse. We just moved recently and it felt like it would never end. Luckily it was our decision and we were in control of the timing. You are Amazing!
@@AtoZenLife As well she should!! In the past TH-cam fans have taken to Yelp or Google reviews to ruin the reputation of companies that have wronged their influencer. Not that any of us would be vindictive. 😇 Hope you’re feeling better and everyone is settled in now. 🩷
This makes my heart hurt for you, but you handled it with such grace and poise, and were even able to share it! Just shows how strong you are boss lady! I do have to say I would consult a lawyer about what happened - something seems extremely hinky here
As astounding (and disturbing) as the backstory is, more astounding is the fact that you packed up and moved a family of four with only three carloads in six hours. Really gave me pause for thought because things happen and I wouldn't be able to pull off that feat -- even with help. Definitely makes a case for simplifying and streamlining though...and keeping your knees flexed. Sorry about the circumstances that led to this, Marissa, but I truly admire how you all managed to turn on a dime and accomplish a major move in record time. Threatening the sheriff -- hardball. (Shook my head throughout the video.) Best to you.
I’m so glad that things worked out for your family in the end! I’m sure that was a very stressful day! It’s amazing to see that you managed to pack up your home in only a few hours; that is a true testimony to the benefits of minimalism!
I am not even 30 yet and have moved 13 times, sometimes in the same city and sometimes to a different one or even another country. But being a minimalist helps. Really glad you could make it in time and nothing just happens. There is a reason for everything. Btw, I too just moved to a new place this month and hope to stay as long as possible. I hope you like the new place.😊
What a mess! I would say one time-saving hack from my 9 (much smaller, single living life) moves is to take a broom handle and put all your hanging clothes on it. Obviously this takes two people to get it to the car, then back into the new closet. But it is so fast and less bulky suitcases/boxes worth of clothes! Glad that it was so fast after the adrenaline rush of it all!
Oh my goodness! You handled that situation with a lot more grace than I would have! So glad you're all settled in and that the boys can still go to the school they love! ❤
I am amazed at your gracious and positive response to such a stressful situation, and also the way in which you have been able to protect your boys and continue to give them stability in the midst of it all. Awesome! I hope you can all have some downtime now to rest and recover and settle in to your new (and hopefully more stable) home after so much upheaval.
I've only moved a handful of times, mostly in my college years. We considered moving to another state, but with kids it's so hard to think about moving, so we decided to stay where we are. I hope this place works out for you!
I’m was so happy to hear that you managed to get a rental in the school district your boys were already attending. I’ve been working on minimizing my possessions for quite some time and your videos continue to show the amazing benefits of that!
So glad you were eventually able to put a "decently good" spin on an incredibly difficult situation! I am glad the landlord was nice and apologetic. People make mistakes, admitting that and apologizing for it goes a long way! From one Illinois (ex) slp to another, love your channel and best of luck to you all.
WOW.. what an experience. You and the family did an AMAZINg job in one day! I mean really and with your grateful attitude on top it all. Thakm You for sharing this experience and most of all, how you all made it work! Can not believe they were going to call the sheriff's dept due to their mistake. Being tired and any other feelings are so understandable. All The Best in your new location.
Minimalism is also a huge advantage in an emergency. My boss lost her home in a fire. She lost a lot of things that were important to her because in the panic she couldn’t decide what to take.
The rental agency bringing up eviction and involving police was totally unreasonable and frankly, horrible given that they knew this was a mistake and not a situation where someone is refusing to pay or breaking the rules. So sorry this happened to your family!
It is amazing how your self-discipline and the work you put in making your relationship so strong made you able to cope with this situation in a way that hurt you as little as possible. In overcoming your emotions for the moment and still being able to adapt you made the best of a horrific situation and protected the children and yourself. Love the compliment you got for the celebration dinner! Well done, you guys are amazing!
I have just under 3 weeks to pack up and me and my 3 children will move to temporary accommodation. I thought we didn’t have much but I really need to declutter even more. I will have to put a lot into storage and then maybe in January when we hopefully get a house move again .Then I can see the space / what we have and maybe declutter some more . I’m so sorry you had the stress but so happy it worked out ok x
You guys are amazing! What a great learning experience for your kiddos, showing how U2 took a crisis situation and took care of it. They are lucky to have you.
Even though its upsetting circumstances, you still left the place respectfully clean for the next tenant (who might have had no idea this was happening). I really admire your strength and character. Good luck in your new home.
Could you do a video on minimalist winter gear for kids? What is essential and what features do you look for? Like what materials, fabrics, brands, vest with hoodies or without, what you look for in coats? And all that good stuff❤
This simply wouldN'T happen in the UK, it takes months to evict someone, even if they are a terrible tenant. So sorry it happened to you, hopefully you got a nicer place the second time. Your minimalist life style certainly helped, TEAM ZEN ALL PITCHED IN TO HELP SECURE THE MOVE IN THE ONE DAY, AS IT SHOULD BE IN A FAMILY. No wonder you felt sick, so much stress, all that cortisol sloshing about, make sure to take good care of yourself and your family. Wishing you all the best in your new rental. Hope you can find the home of your dreams in the next few months. I moved out of my childhood home, WITH TWO ONLY TWO SUITCASES, INCLUDING BITS FOR THE KITCHEN - into our first home, moved seven years later with a little one, A SMALL VAN and have lived in the same house for 30 years, so moved twice. Does mean you accumulate more stuff, because you don't have that moving out de-cluttering process! Since watching your videos have managed to de-clutter over 1250 items in just under two years, still going ... it's a continuous process! Anyone who thinks its done once, is DELUDED!
I'm so sorry you and your family got totally screwed, Marissa! I hope your rental "management" at least softened the blow by giving you all at least a month's rent free. Also, I can't believe that the state allows this! Regardless of your ability to move quickly, your family should not have had to go through this. However, it seems that minimalism has really allowed your family to be very adaptable, whatever the situation. Glad you will all continue to get settled in, despite the not so warm welcome! Fall is a beautiful time in Chicago, which I'm sure you all know about, I hope you get to enjoy all joys this season offers! Also, love how your "Chicago" came out "who's gonna put this away, I do I have to put it away!" LOL 🤩
You are amazing! That situation you had to deal with should never had happened, that company really dropped the ball. You have definitely made me realize I need to minimize even more.
Good job, Marissa. Way to stay calm and be a sturdy leader for your kiddos. I love how you and your husband are clearly partners in this. Lots of great lessons all around.
I do admire your resilience, you just roll with the punches. It seems effortless but I imagine it's not, completely anyway. I plan to move in a year and see through your example how having less "stuff" will bring less stress. Less, not none, just less.
I am so sorry you and your beautiful family had to go through that. It sounds shady. Sending you gentle healing thoughts for the stress that it caused. Wishing for you much peace in your new home.
You and your family are incredible! I've only watched 10 or so videos so far of yours; I'm so grateful Cass had you has a guest on Clutterbug Podcast and it allowed me to find you!
I’ve moved probably 25 times in my life now. My family are immigrants and moved around a lot for jobs and then I got married and we moved together as a family with two kids cross country TWICE and recently a couple months ago into our forever home from an apartment. Yes the cross country coast moves were the most stressful and we did have a moving company get all of our belongings and furniture but for the first month or two of living across the country we had nothing except what we packed in our suitcases. It was rough but oddly freeing. We donated a ton of stuff before moving each time too including furniture but we have beds and a couch that would have cost more to dump than to move so we brought it. It’s also insanely expensive to move things that far. We spent 15 thousand total on the last cross country move which was a little over a year ago. And it wasn’t even that much stuff mostly boxes of clothes toys blankets kitchen things etc. The moving company stole about 6k from us which I can’t even prove in a court of law because they were a scam company we found out later.
Your move showed a great family unit. You worked together including your boys. No blame just the facts doing what you had to do to get to.the other side. I probably would have ordered dinner delivered which Is another reason I admire you. Even being sick you made a family dinner.
We move every few years because my husband is in the military. Takes 6 hrs for the movers to load us up and 2-3 hours to unload our entire house. I’m hoping the next time is even faster!!
I am so sorry this happened to you! It is not fair that their mistake caused so much upheaval in your life. I am glad you got the condo in the same school system! Super. I love your videos!
I am always amazed at your resilience! I have only recently started watching TH-cam, and your channel has inspired me to pursue minimalism and tackle my emotional clutter. Thank you for sharing your journey! Sending love to you and your beautiful family!
Wow! I can't even imagine this, especially with children. Your gracious attitude in spite of the terror you had to feel is amazing. I'm 77, I've moved 20 times since I was 18 and lived in one home for 24 years, this home for 5, and 4 years in Tokyo.
Oh dear Lord, what an amazing family you are! To be able to deal with this extremely stressful situation and handle as calmly as you did 👍 wonderful what you are teaching your kids, bravo
A very stressful situation that you guys handled amazingly!! 👏👏👏 very inspiring for sure! I love that you still made a home cooked diner ❤ with the best reward: your son’s five stars rating 🥰🥰 totally adorable and I am sure helped dissipate the stress/ fatigue of the day 😍 wishing you all the best for a smooth settling from now on 🙏
I am so impressed by you and your family's ability to adapt it is so inspiring. I would have been so distressed and livid about the situation you were forced into.
On Aug 28th we had a house fire, basically forced us to do that exactly. Good news, I had been wanting to go minimalist for a year so i was mentally ready.

I keep minimal dishes on a disconnected dishwasher instead of a cabinet because I like accessing dishes by pulling the shelves out

Then that eviction goes on your record and good luck getting another rental.
Since COVID and the housing crisis they have to give you 90 days in Oregon
mistakes happen, but displacing a family isn't your every day mistake. i'm just glad they were able to right their wrong.
they did not do right to their wrong, they did not compensate for the stress, short notice, and inconvenience of moving like this. She should have sued them because this is far from ok..
@@marianned7139Thats what I am saying!! Makes me angry that they put up with it!!
@@marianned7139 within the bounds of realistic options, a new home on the same property is the best that could be done.
even if there was monetary compensation, making everything perfectly equal & fair is impossible. that's life. marissa & her family handled this with grace.
@@vcook9710 marissa & her family handled this with grace.
I know two people in apartment complexes in Texas that had that happen to them.
Shame on the rental community for even threatening an eviction when it was their mistake. It’s their profession-they knew they were legally wrong to kick you out on such short notice.
Usually you have a month or two. My two landlord that sold gave me two months. I could not make it in one!
Yes!!!
Normally the rental company adds a clause to the contract that makes it possible after one such mistake
Wow. You must have been the most grateful that you have ever been for becoming a minimalist.
Extremely grateful 🙏
For anybody reading this who may ever be faced with the threat of eviction - please don’t just take the landlord’s word for how it will go. In many US states and cities there is a court process before you’d ever find a sheriff’s deputy at your door. While the landlord was very nice and apologetic, they may also have not given you an accurate answer about how long you had to move.
Exactly. Here it is a minimum of the amount of time you are paying rent in units. Sooo, a month if you are paying monthly.
Exactly. There are processes and steps that must be followed, and 30 days is minimal notice in most, if not all, 50 states.
@@patriciaseyfferle1427 Well, unless you are paying weekly or daily. But I don't think that is terribly common.
I find this astonishing. Where I live, the law is that you have to give 60 day’s notice to evict. Glad you were able to find another place so quickly.
@@katendress6142They were and it did.
Wow, you and your husband handled this awful situation with extreme grace and your boys are so well-adjusted and positive as a result! 💛
You totally get it 🙏❤️
You two worked hard and seemed like you worked well together. Sometimes life isn’t easy, but you took care of the problem and got it done. And I’m totally impressed with the 5 star dinner on top of it all. Good job.
FYI, the secret to the “5-star salmon” is Old Bay seasoning. My kids go crazy for it! 😂
Recipe please?
You are an absolute rock star! This could have been a “rant” video, but you made it about empowerment. You are your hubby are a badass couple!
Your husband is as tough as a rock. Proud of you all
I know you'won't see this comment but thanks for making these videos. I've been battle a deep depression and decided to declutter my home as part of my treatment. I'm a single gen x man and these are great to watch as motivation while I get my home into shape.
Good luck! Be strong! 😊
Go you! Decluttering is a wonderful act of self care as part of your healing journey! You deserve a home which represents how you want to feel. bro, hang in there! I am working on my Apt. Look up the videos called "Clutter bug" There is a course called "Take your house back" that is good.

Also, just want to reiterate that the lady we rent from was super nice, apologetic, and really tried to make things right.
Mistakes happen but being bullied isn't cool.
This mindset of moving quickly and easily is what motivates me to stay minimal. After some huge losses (home, health) I decluttered for a year to become comfortable with the ability to make a life decision fast. I am so much happier! Glad yall have a safe home.
"I decluttered for a year to become comfortable with the ability to make a life decision fast."
Well said! 👍
Any recommendations on how you went about the process over the year? Did you follow a method? TIA
Thanks!
The fact that you were able to FILM while packing up is soo amazing!!
It actually extended the time it took for sure! 😉
Wow, that’s amazing! Cheering you on 📣 in your decluttering and organizing journey.
We've been in our house 29 years. We aren't minimal by any means but I decluttered most of the house a year ago. Good luck on your journey!!!!❤❤❤❤
We have been in our home 38 years, and in 2023 I have cleaned out, sent to thrift stores, given away, thrown away at least half of what we have in the house. I spend a couple hours at it every day, one closet, one corner, one box at a time. Feels so good to have it gone!
I am beyond impressed with the calm , collected , simple way you went through this overwhelming weekend …
Hugs and high fives on your behavior and not having clutter to pack up -shame on the others involved causing you this enormous stress -way to go girl !!
Just the fact that a family of four could move in one day - without a truck - is incredible and speaks so highly of minimizing posessions.
Well, it helps that they didn't own any furniture. Personal belongings, not the entire house.
Beautiful view from your window!
So glad it all worked out, especially the boys staying in the school they like. ❤❤❤
That's scary and horrible. I'm so sorry your family had to go through that.
How incredibly stressful for you all, especially needing to protect your children from any drama. So glad you were able to settle it all ok.
Good parenting is on display here. Dealing with problems and literally moving into the future from the mess at hand.
I hope they gave you a discount and covered the cleaning of the old place!

@@AtoZenLife As well she should!! In the past TH-cam fans have taken to Yelp or Google reviews to ruin the reputation of companies that have wronged their influencer. Not that any of us would be vindictive. 😇

Thanks for sharing and good luck settling into your new place.
I'm very similar. Moved 13 times and I'm too not yet 30. I've stayed with the UK but different counties. I'm not a minimalist - yet!
I love how strong you are while not being afraid to show vulnerability.
I wish you all a speedy recovery from this stressful event. Hope you feel safe and comfortable in your new apartment. Best wishes from Denmark 💗
Truly amazing that you were able to complete the move in 6 hours!! Unbelievable! 🎉🎉😊😊
Also, gotta say - I love how you leave the video to run for a few seconds at the end. So peaceful!
WOW.. what an experience.
😢
Resilience is a life skill that will take you a long way. Good job you guys. Your children are learning something very valuable.
So sorry that you had to deal with this. So glad your family is so supportive. I loved seeing the boys pitch in so energetically.
I'm sorry you and your family had to go through this but so impressive & such a life lesson. ❤️
So proud of you for handling with such grace! I felt anxious just watching this!
This is one of those situations where I get angry at how the world takes advantage of nice, rule abiding people like you guys.
You guys are a class act! You handled it all with such aplomb!
You are amazing! Even preparing the family a 5 🌟 dinner! I loved that.
I watch your videos and its inspiring. I was able to get rid of somr stuff that i was dragging along for so long.
OMG . . . you and your family are Rock Stars! So Inspiring. Thank you
You are amazing!
What you were able to accomplish so quickly was amazing!!! So glad it worked out in the end!!!😊
I feel so sorry that you had to go through this. I am so glad that everything turned out to be ok. ❤
I do admire your resilience, you just roll with the punches. It seems effortless but I imagine it's not, completely anyway. I plan to move in a year and see through your example how having less "stuff" will bring less stress. Less, not none, just less.
Thank goodness your a minimalist family.
What a dreadful situation! You sure made lemonade out of the lemon landslide! Marissa you and your husband are amazing along with your boys. ❤❤❤
I probably would have ordered dinner delivered which
Is another reason I admire you. Even being sick you made a family dinner.
Thank you for posting glad you quickly moved , everyone seems calm 🎉
I'm jealous of your salmon dinner! It's right down my alley. I'm angered on your behalf about how you were treated.
Your resilience always make me smile.
Wow! I can't even imagine this, especially with children. Your gracious attitude in spite of the terror you had to feel is amazing. I'm 77, I've moved 20 times since I was 18 and lived in one home for 24 years, this home for 5, and 4 years in Tokyo.
Oooh, love Tokyo! Thanks for sharing 🙏
