  • In this video we test out the NEW 4-Blade X-Treme Rage Broad-head with the Rage Trypan and Rage Hypodermic. We test drainage and durability, then kind of touch base on the damage as well. Overall this is broad-head review on Rages most recent products. We understand its not perfect and there is definitely some things that could have been done differently.

    I like your vid but would like for you're test of the rage broadheads to be more realistic, the jug shots pretty much all were the same results? The plywood was extremely thin? Would be nice to see at least 3/8 or 1/2 inch? . I've tried rages don't care for them due to subpar performance. It's a nice concept but needs much thicker blades. Thank you

    • @maknbacon7367
      @maknbacon7367 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Mary and steve Clouser miller Use the proper shock collar. The black collar that comes on these are not meant for crossbow's. Use the red high energy collar's....they are made for crossbow's. That said, I've done a little testing of the Hypo with the red high energy collar and did not like what I was seeing. They weren't opening with a water jug test. I've been told, and have seen videos, were there work great on game, but I had no confidence to put one in my quiver to hunt with. The crossbow version of the Trypan has been my recent test. This thing is AMAZING! It's been passing every test I've thrown at it with flying colors and still shooting the same head with the same blade's after 25+ shot's. No, I don't shoot steel drum's or sheets of plywood as that is not real world in my mind. This video was a decent video, but, to say they put a mechanical head through a shoulder blade is BS....that ain't happening no matter what mechanical head you shoot. That just isn't a shot that should be taken with archery equipment. The other "problem" with this video is his claim on blade thickness. Here are the actual specs.
      Hypo: .035 wing blade's
      4 blade extreme: .030 fixed, .035 wing.
      Trypan: .039 wing blade's
      The Trypan has the thickest blade's Rage offers in their lineup.....fact.

    • @maknbacon7367
      @maknbacon7367 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Mary and steve Clouser miller Are you saying they open before hitting the target as the original poster was saying, or were you just saying they open as they should....on impact? The Rage head's won't fly accurately if they open in flight as the original commenter was stating. If you are saying yours are opening on impact as they should and not in flight....excellent, no need to try and help. If yours are opening in flight, and your actually using the red high energy collar, then there is an issue. I'm shooting a Scorpyd Orion Extreme and might be able to help IF you're having trouble.

      @Meh They plane and have more wind drift than mechanicals. Not subjective, just fact. They arent as easy or straightforward to "tune" with.
      Beyond that, they do not offer as wide a cutting diameter as mechanicals can. At least not without increasing broadhead weight.
      QDMA studies on Naval property managed hunts found that hunters using mechanical broadheads recoved their deer more reliably and more often than hunters who shot deer with fixed blades.

      I'm not a fan of any aluminum ferrule Rage head, but the original Titanium was an excellent head. Now with the introduction of the Trypan a couple year's back, they have once again put a quality head on the market IMO. With the strongest ferrule and the thickest blade's of their lineup, the Trypan is a great head. Tested the Hypo and it didn't make it to the quiver. Been testing this Trypan and it is currently in my quiver and has also made it into my wifes quiver.....replacing that junk Swhacker. I never had any issue with penetration when I was shooting the original Titanium and I don't foresee it as an issue with the Trypan as the blade's are swept back more than the Hypo. I've heard of penetration issues with the Hypo and I would challenge those who like the Hypo to try the Trypan if they've had penetration issues.....it's just a better head.

    Pretty invalid test, plastic rips and folds back... you're not going to get the same results on an animal. Also most of us don't get shots from 5 feet away.

    • @SethMcClaine
      @SethMcClaine 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jimmi Jams No need to reinvent the wheel. There are plenty of people out there who have done a decent job providing a somewhat realistic test with these. This garbage just happens to clutter up the results when trying find them.

      @Jimmi Jams You're the one that started the negativity / name calling. I was just calling out the issues with the "test". If the youtube platform was only expecting people to give out participation awards they wouldn't allow us to vote and comment.

    Guys I’m sorry but I don’t want to see what it does to milk jugs. If a person REALLY wants to know what it will do to an actual living deer they aren’t going to take this seriously. Come on.

      Thats fine, thank you for you feedback. If you would like to see what it will do to a deer. Watch the episode we dropped last week of Andrew shooting a doe with it.

    Putting holes through the cap to resemble nostrals? Are you aware of how a body works? I can see the point of puncturing the cap to maintain a even flow, but in a real body there are a few mechanisms separating and mixing blood and air. Then, the reason for me youtubing rage broadheads is that I am polishing a few on my own, and search inspiration whilst doing a boring job. I belive that polishing the gliding surface of the blades and the surface of the actual point which the blades interact to, is even more important than honing the blades edges. Bad spelling? English is not my first language... So my conserns about mechanichal broadheads are more like failure to deploy and/or significant loss of kinetic energy caused by sharp edges in the wrong places, or rugged surfaces causing less penetration due to a point of sudden resistance.

      Thats a fail video for rage and Hoyt..they are payed to lie to people to sell crapadermics.. hope people dont think there slapnuts cut or any other cut rage make AINT going thru that thick part of a deers shoulder blade. One lucky shots out of 100 may get lucky and do it..mabey but i wouldnt ever do it on purpose,, not even with rages slapnuts cut and stolen shock collar design from swhacker.. bad advise from youngins getting payed is all this video is..

      Shoulder blade's are not made to be shot at with archery equipment. High quality fixed blade head's stand a small chance of decent penetration, but not mechanical's. Brand is irrelevant when it comes to a actual shoulder blade and mechanical's.....just don't do it.

    • @robspear03

      @@maknbacon7367 Not at all.
      ALL broadheads fail on shoulder bone.
      Remember, deer do not have a "shoulder blade" like we do. They have more of a knuckle with grisel shield that pivots.

    • @maknbacon7367
      @maknbacon7367 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robspear03 Deer do have a shoulder blade, it's called a scapula just like ours. People refer to it as the shoulder "blade", which is what was referred to in the video. Nope, you hit the actual shoulder joint, no broadhead will penetrate. However, if using a high quality fixed blade head with enough kinetic energy, one can get through the thinner, more "grisly" end of the scapula....not with a mechanical though. This being said, the shoulder blade should be avoided. This is what makes archery hunting.....waiting for that ethical shot.

    Shoot fixed blades... never have to worry about deployment ....and mechs are trash...one and done. Kill a deer then put my single bevels on a strop and they go back in the quiver.
