On west Cyprus and on east Kashmir !... the colonial British had the agenda of making chaos everywhere and leave it that way for many decades to come.
Why do we not discuss the Ottoman Empire as the colonial power that they were? I pretty much had no idea who they were until I started asking questions about border disputes.
It's like we only focus on British colonizers and forget that the French, Spanish, Ottoman, Portuguese, and Russian empires were a real thing that have real present-day consequences.
Ottoman empire were believed to unite all the lands they conquered, despite the claims of a 'corrupt nation' that many westerners believe. Ironically, when the Ottoman fall every lands they conquered before started to be claimed by their own multi- racial and multi - religious subjects.

@@sirsoos3546 I understand. But everyone have their own believe of which is right and wrong. The Ottoman primary goal was to spread the religion of Islam, and they believe it is a right thing to do. But things could go wrong like you mentioned because no country is perfect. After a few hundred hundred years later most people believed (even Muslim scholars) that the Ottoman goverment becomes corrupted and slowly leaving their religion. The story of a declining empire that just found out about golden black liquid all around the land they conquered sparked some new hope to the unrest original inhabitants.

I know everyone in the comment section blame this situation on the British, and I absolutely agree with them. Another example of poor mapping by the British led to war between East Pakistan (Bangladesh) and West Pakistan (Pakistan).
If you read about how David Lloyd George and how he was basically the man behind the Greco Turkish war of 1919-1922 after WW1 you will see why the UK deserves to take the blame. The Uk should be paying massive reparations for that and trying to impose the treaty of Severes yet they got off the hook.

This country does NOT belong to the Greeks, Turkish or British. I am a Turkish Cypriot my grandmother was born in the South of Cyprus in the 1930's the neighbours she had at the time were turkish cypriot, greek cypriot, armenian cypriot and syrian cypriot (this country was multicultural and should have always stayed this way) she was forced to move to the North for protection due to the coup ordered by the military junta in Greece (this was the reason Turkey illegally invaded the country to protect the turkish cypriots) I do not blame Greeks for this but I do blame the people who tried to unify Cyprus as a Greek country which also involved the British. Just because the majority of population in a country is one race does not make this country their own many lives were lost because of this disagreement. Some of my closest friends are Greek Cypriots we are like brothers. I thank Turkey for what they did because if it wasn't for them I may not be alive today or would have been forced out of the country. No country should ever claim a place like this as there own. Peace and Love to all my brothers and sisters no matter what race you may be there will always be good and evil people in each of these races do not let anyone or anything tell you otherwise.

@@bkbk7653 All of Cyprus is an EU member, from Akamas to Rizokarpaso and from Kormakitis to Agia Napa. And there isn't a greek part in which you refer to. There is only ONE Cyprus, with the northern part being occupied and the southern part being free of Turkish troops.

(the recognized) Republic of (Southern) Cyprus became an EU member (normally) as its both Greek and Turkish Cypriot people (the European Union has the seat for Greek and Turkish Cypriots, separately) but only Greek Cypriots are allowed to be a member of European Parliament, because Turkish Cypriots are sacked from this recognized government on 1963. So your hypothesis is currently invalid. The TRNC and Turkish Cypriots can't enjoy the rights to be an EU citizen unless they get Southern Cyprus citizenship.

This video just covers on side of the story. The island always had ,to some extent, a “rivalry” between the Greeks Cypriots and the minority the Turkish Cypriots but it was never so strong until the UK came and magnified the hatred between them. Also there was a turkish organization that did planed attacks on Greek Cypriot villages . Also the reason that the plan was declined by the Greek Cypriots was because it was outrageously unfair to the majority population with a ~80 and higher of the total population of the island due to the mush larger compromises the Greek Cypriots should made if the proposal was agreed unlike the Turkish Cypriots.

Important to note that Britain was supplying extremists on both sides with weapons to fight (divide and conquer) and the USA at Kissinger's advice allowed Turkey to invade because Cyprus was not entirely into the western sphere of influence (it flirted with the USSR) so by having turkish presence on the island it would guarantee a NATO foothold on the southern flank of Nato's spread.
Too bad that the DMZ wasn't mentioned at all. Also the fact that Turkey is the only country in the world to recognise the Turkish part of Cyprus (KKTC).

How about pointing out that Greek Cypriots were THE FIRST settlers of the island and that it was never a 50-50 split in population demographics: Greek Cypriots were 80% of the population while Turkish Cypriots were just 18%. 8 in 10 people wanted to be untied with Greece: its called Democracy (i know this is an unheard of concept for Turkey). Let's see what Turkey demands from the Cypriots in order to agree with the reunification of the island-state. It is easy to understand why Cyprus is still divided.
- only a part of the war refugees will be allowed to return back to their properties in the Nothern occupied part of Cyprus. The rest will stay in the free South and their properties will be given to Turk settlers.
- A part of the Turkish Army will remain forever on the island
- Turkey will keep its Guarantor rights over the island despite the fact that G.Britain and Greece don't want to be Guarantors of Cyprus anymore.
- The TurkCypriot community (18% of the island's population) will have a VETO power to all the decisions of Cyprus Republic
- The Presidency will change every 1 year between a TurkCypriot and a GreekCypriot
- Cyprus has to accept the Turkish Theory about maritime borders and she has to surrender a part of the Cypriot sea regions to Turkey
It is easy to understand that this "Deal" doesn't lead to an independent, normal and European Cyprus but to a puppet state of Turkey. Ankara spread the fairytale that the Turkish Army is on the island-state to protect the TurkCypriot community but the truth is that Ankara wants to have control over the island and doesn't care at all for an independent Cyprus.

Ok there is many truth to this video, but you didn't mention all of the past did you? Don't you remember what the Ottoman Empire did when they got Cyprus? They came in pillaged and ransacked Nicosia and many other towns, massacred 20,000 greek Cypriots, enslaved women and children, and during the Ottoman Empire greeks and other Christian minorities (within the Empire they were minorities) were treated much less than muslim Turks. And it wasn't even your land to begin with, as greek Cypriots were being enslaved and massacred in their homeland, Ottoman empire had Turks come to Cyprus to settle there. This says a lot about the conflict, but I do agree about the massacres against turks, very unfair and how Greece (which was under a military govt. [Junta]) even supported EOKA. But it's more of because Cyprus as an island has suffered through so much pain and now when given a chance to go back to their old times which were peaceful they were denied it, which would cause a large amount of radicalism.

@Pmav Mostly due to EOKA and Greece pouring 20,000 troops in the space of a decade to try to regain control and unify with Greece. Most Turkish Cypriots even voted for Reunification of the Island so it'd be one Country again. Alas, who voted against it? Greek Cypriots.
