There were people under the Obama administration who attempted to get rid of it, however, when the public protested against it they actually listened. In fact, those same politicians have now been speaking out against Ajit Pai's actions.
Currently, no matter how much evidence there is that an overwhelming amount of Americans do *not* want net neutrality to go away, it doesn't seem that it will matter since Ajit Pai, and the others voting to kill it only care about their own interests.

I'm I computer technician. This shit is so confusing. Every source uses lamemens terms (like car lanes. but that's not even close to how internet works) and it seems no one knows the exact details of current net neutrality law's and what they were previously to 2015. it seems like everyone uses this just to push political agenda both left and right. So I don't know what side I am on. I am for the growth of faster internet in more and in rural areas. (like the USA is pathetic for internet speeds). but on the flip side I would hate to see the internet turn into say something like cable channels were you have to by more websites.

Don't buy into the big telecom misinformation that net neutrality is discouraging investment in infrastructure. The truth is that ISP's (Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, AT&T) have created monopolies in most places limiting the market to just one or two providers in any given area. As a result they mostly have no competition, meaning they can rest on their laurels offering older, overpriced, subpar broadband to customers who have no other choice (compare this to many parts of Europe where there are 15-20 competing ISP's in a given city and excellent cutting edge Internet). ISP's have largely achieved this anti-competitive market hegemony by using their monied powers to lobby local governments to place burdensome regulatory barriers of entry on any would be competition. This is why many municipalities in their desperation have reached out to get Google fiber, because Google actually has the resources and legal robustness to jump through the arbitrary hoops and hurdles that telecom corporations have put in place. Repealing net neutrality won't "spur investment in infrastructure" or "drive market competition", until the anti-competitive regulatory burdens that ISP's have lobbied for are removed that's complete and utter hogwash.
The only reason that big telecom wants to have net neutrality removed can be easily interpreted from the Comcast head's statements on it, where he informed customers that : "We do not and will not block, throttle, or discriminate against lawful content - and we will be transparent". Why do they feel the need to reassure customers that they won't do any of these things? Because they know DAMN well that removing net neutrality WILL allow them to surreptitiously block, throttle and discriminate against lawful content. As current net neutrality regulations stand consumers can and HAVE filed class action lawsuits against ISP's for doing exactly that, but once net neutrality is gone they will face no legal retribution whatsoever. It's about as crooked as it gets.

Fundamentally regulating the internet is not about speed. Its about controlling the content you get access to and having the ability to charge you whatever they see fit. One example would be kodi boxes. Another would be the Russia investigations on trump. If you can controls the information people have access to you can controls the people. You can also charge them an insane amount of money for whatever access you determine they can have access. to. It keeps the people in power, in power!

If websites are willing to make a deal with Vodafone to make a bundle so that your data cap is not affected by the hours you spend on them, how is it a bad thing? I might get the video pack and no one would see me for months.
And using the traffic analogy, what if there were 3 Netflix cars to every other car on the road? The internet has been set up with protocols that date back well before any of this became an issue that make everything slow down and crash if there is too much traffic. New protocols have been developed that would reduce the problem, but they would be blocked because of Net Neutrality.
Finally, Not all internet activity is a website. With all the smart cars, homes, phones, and other internet-enabled devices there is a ton of internet needs that can't be easily met under Net Neutrality rules. By separating traffic by priority needs everyone would be able to get the amount of data they need when they need it.

Pie Volt just here. Our FCC has nothing to do with other countries. So basically we will pay for our smartphone to whom ever we have then companies like Facebook and Twitter might have to pay att to have it so those places would still be available to us, if not then whom ever your provider is, you may not even have it available to you and websites. An be blocked or another example would be Comcast. If they are your internet provider and your in your computer at home, google may not be available to you anymore if google and Comcast can't agree on a contract etc. it give these companies the power to control content availability based on who they choose to do business with.

The Monkeydoo net neutrality has always existed it just wasn't backed by Title II of the FCC until recently and the reason why they did that is because internet companies keep suing the FCC for keeping the net neutral so the FCC to protect itself from being sued for doing their job had to Place net neutrality under title 2.
