@@aperson113 nop find my comment and read what they said to me based on the mail ive sent them. They literally said they’re taking the subscription for the hardware and the data insights.
I mean no disrespect, but do you or any of the individuals who keep complaining about the whoop and any other item/health tracker etc, that charges a subscription fee, that companies such as , Apple, Samsung, Google and the like that charge upfront in full for a product, do not have the fee baked in to the cost of the product that you are paying in full at time of purchase? The Whoop band is free and currently a subscription for a year is currently $199, and if you were to purchase the least expensive, the Apple Watch S10 which I believe is $399 that would get you about two years of the subscription for whoop. Most consumers of Apple products buy a new Apple product about every one to two years, especially phones and watches so most are not saving any money. For those that keep their products past three years and beyond, yes it would make sense to not continue with a subscription past two years or get a subscription service, but for most there are no savings. Let's not forget there are many individuals who don't want a screen on their device, or they choose to wear a mechanical watch on the other arm, and so the whoop works for them. Lastly, we as humans are creatures of habit and we generally either bike, run or walk the same routes on a day-to-day basis so you basically know the distance, regardless if the whoop device is off a little at the end of the day. I'm not saying that whoop should not make a device that is not as accurate as possible, but we should be less concerned about statistically insignificant differences between devices and more concerned about about being more active, getting enough sleep, and eating a good healthy balanced diet. We have become too obsessed with whether one device is accurately recording REM, deep or light sleep properly etc. Sure if you are an endurance athlete, a marathon runner, Olympic athlete etc., but 99% of the rest of the individuals should not stress about all of these figures. Again, eat a healthy diet, try to get at least seven hours or more of sleep a day, and get at least 30 min of moderate intensity exercise 4-5 days a week and don't stress out about the rest.
Same for this Oura ring. I thought this would be a great thing for my wife with insomnia. But 400$ for the ring and 70$ per year for subscription is way too much.
If the whoop was a one-time payment I would consider it, but a subsription in combination with a less accurate sensor means I will be staying with my Apple watch.
Subscription is not nice but since you can have the device virtually for free compared to the small fortune an apple watch costs. You also don't have to deal with the apple watch shitty battery which sucks for those of us who want to use it mostly for sleep tracking (as many people charge their devices during the night)
Attempt number two to get Quantified Scientist to review the Ringconn Gen 2 Smart Ring. He could start a Patreon or something if it's too expensive, I would donate to help him be able to buy it.
Thank you for sharing such comprehensive reviews from a long-term user's perspective. There's nothing else like it on TH-cam. I have a Whoop strap mainly for heath tracking and tracking my sleep and my runs. I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of data and, to be honest, I don't really know what to do with it. I would be very interested if you could share how you use this data in your day to day life. How do you think the average person, who's just looking to improve their lifestyle habits, can best utilize these metrics? What level of accuracy is sufficient in this use case?
Whoop is good, but much too expensive... similar situation as Oura. Thanks for the video Rob! Using both a Garmin FR 255 and Apple Watch SE 2, and I can't bring myself to choose between one or the other. AW tracks HR and sleep phenomenally... Garmin is set up so nicely for running/fitness, but is simply terrible at sleep tracking. If Garmin had the HR and sleep tracking of AW, it would be a very easy winner. The AW Ultra 2 is also not worth the cost for a bit of extra battery life. Guess I'll keep rocking both devices to track my metrics🤷♂️ I can see why Whoop is an interesting proposition since it sort of splits both down the middle... but the ongoing subscription is just too pricey.
I have an Apple Watch Ultra (first one) and the 965. My 965 is picking up my sleep almost as good as my apple watch to the point that I only wear my apple when running so I can take calls from my daughter while out. I feel your Apple Garmin war….😂 Now if I could wear a ring that didn’t interfere with weight training and bar work….id be sold.
@@Valla451 Unfortunately even a watch has trouble with weight lifting if you have gloves or grips that wrap around your wrist. Almost like it a chest strap is the only way to go.
Garmin sleep tracking is good in that it takes into account your RHR/HRV during sleep and uses it to calculate your sleep score (along with other metrics). Many other wearables don't use this info at all.
I think there is a lot of value in looking at the sleeping HR pattern, in terms of analyzing recovery. It is something I look at, along with seeing my lowest sleeping HR and RHR/HRV. I personally do not find sleep scores useful- Athlytic adds deep and rem cycle time and divides by total sleep time, looking for those cycles to account for ~33% to give a high sleep score. I think this is interesting, however the overall pattern of cycles tells me a lot more about my sleep quality. Apple Watch for me is much more accurate, for example seeing 2 deep cycles and 3-5 rem cycles in waves, I know my sleep was beneficial. Garmins sleep chart is almost not even worth trying to decipher... it's very difficult to even make sense of the coloured lines. Often I look at the total time for the cycles and laugh at the inaccuracy. I woke at 4:35am last night and read in bed until 7:30am- Apple was spot on for my wake time- Garmin hallucinated 3 hours of various sleep stages. There is a trade-off between detecting awake vs sleeping and then accurately predicting stages, unfortunately Garmin does neither well. It consistently shows my sleep starting the moment I lay down in bed as well. My RHR is low 40's, which may cause Garmin trouble... but it doesn't for AW and honestly many active people have lower RHR's. Apple gives me low HR alerts during sleep, which are somewhat annoying, but it's accurate nonetheless. I wish my Forerunner tracked sleep at even Fitbit's level... my old $99 Inspire 3 was very accurate with sleep vs awake time, but Fitbit struggles to accurately capture REM sleep. I had weeks with 0 minutes of REM to 15 mins. Went to AW and immediately started seeing my REM cycles being detected properly. Sleep score is useless if the sleep cycles and time themselves are not properly detected... RHR and HRV are accurate in even the most cheapest devices available; the Inspire 3 for example. Other things such as the Body Battery and Stress features which used to be unique to Garmin are also now calculated and displayed on other smart watches... Athlytic shows both for AW and I find the stress feature interesting. I just think sleep detection inaccuracy is a major area where Garmin needs to improve their devices. I want to ditch my AW, I really do, but I honestly can't at this point. I'm still a man with a watch on each arm😝 I'm also not loyal to either and I hate when people say Garmin is for fitness first or Apple is the only smartwatch to get. Both have aspects of these things they do terribly, it's silly to pretend otherwise. I personally prefer the Garmin for my experience, and think it's overpriced and performs terribly for sleep tracking. I think Apple Watch is a much better value device, but the constant charging and reliance on third party developers to set things up for fitness is a pain. I recommend both to others, with caveats.
Do you have a comparison between Whoop and oura ring? I already have an apple watch, but I always liked the presentation on the apps of oura and whoop better than apples like you said
Have you, or would you, do a comparison of Whoop data on different locations of the body? I am considering buying one with the bicept band, because I need to be able to cover it at work. But I would also consider other areas too. Just curious on how well the devices data lines up on different areas of the body.
Yes! I have been thinking about that! Would just require a slight logistical nightmare in the analysis, trying to keep track of where I wore it, but should be possible at some point
You are doing amazing work! Is there any way to ask for reviews on specific devices? I am really interested in Xiaomi Bands and Watches review. Specially in the Mi Band 9 Pro and the upcoming Redmi Watch 5. These devices are available at really amazing prices that is why I am interested. Is there any way we can sponsor review for specific devices? Or do some kind of polls somewhere where we can provide feedback on which devices everyone is interested in?
Hey Mano! I know you must be in the works with a "best of 2024" kind of a video. However, wanted to try my luck with a preview. If a combination of devices was permitted, which would you choose from the holy trinity that is the AW, Whoop and Oura? Got a mad deal of 100 euros for refurbed oura 3, whoop on trial and aw8 on my wrist hah
What would be interesting for me which band/watch is capable registering IDLE pulse throughout the day somewhat reliably/accurately. I think most of the people who are wearing such device are not always interested in the pulse during the training but rather see an accurate sleep bpm or to trust the curves that are registered daily during work or idle/calm situations.
Great video. Sadly, I think that their subscription model sucks (as a student I cannot afford it in the long run). Will you be doing a review of the Withings ScanWatch 2? Would be really interesting. I cannot decide between the ScanWatch 2 and the AW10, since the AW10 is so accurate, whilst the ScanWatch 10 looks way better in my opinion.
Many thanks for all your videos! Have you considered differentiating between the different weightlifting exercises to see if devices perform better at some than others, e.g., bicep curls vs. overhead lifts? I'm wondering if it would be possible to group weightlifting exercises into those where devices do well and those where they struggle? Meaning that the relationship between the placement of device on the body (wrist, upper arm) and which muscles an exercise strains the most will be different exercise to exercise and therefore may impact the accuracy of measurement.
Hey are you planning to review the Kardena Care Vital? It would be very interesting to see whether it can keep up with the whoop, because it can actually messure the same data.
Hey Rob, any chance you could do a comparison between the Ultrahuman Ring AIR and the Oura Ring 4? With Oura’s subscription model, I know a lot of people are looking for alternatives, and it would be great to see how the Ultrahuman Ring stacks up in terms of accuracy, comfort, and overall performance. Thanks for all the awesome content!
What app do you use for your diary? My wife has a chronic illness and so I'd love her to keep a diary to compare how she feels with her whoop data, but I am yet to be successful in getting her to use one. Perhaps the app would be easy for her to use
Hey! Awesome video, I appreciate you sharing your findings! How do you get access to your heart rate data over time per exercise? I've used the API to export my data but it isn't that granular
Okay, so what would you recommend for weight lifting, CrossFit, and martial arts? I like the Whoop because I can wear it as an armband or in the Whoop undergarments. If I wear my Whoop at my hip, do you think it'll be better for weight lifting?
Only thing holding me back from getting the Whoop is because the launch of whoop 5 is probably nearby. What if I get the Whoop 4 yearly subscription now and they launch the 5 after that? Will 1 get the new one for free? Because it's been 3 years since the launch of the 4
I ordered my Whoop yesterday using your code! Thank you for these great scientific reviews! I really enjoy watching your videos on all sorts of devices just because the way you explain and compare everything is both informative and entertaining at the same time! Thank you for your great work! 💪
@@TheQuantifiedScientist but the code does not work while the black friday discount is active, right? I tried it several times, it doesn't seem to make a difference
Great overview as always! I used the whoop for a month and I really liked the journalling and insights aspects of the whoop, but have some serious accuracy concerns (sleep tracking and exercise -- even on bicep!) as well as totally disagreeing with how whoop calculates the recovery score
Do we know if the sensors work through heavy tattoos? It would be awesome if there could be a pinned comment or note somewhere for functionality though heavy tattoos.
Hi Rob, I was wondering have you tested Casio hw h5600 watch? It's apparently using Polar app. I'm curious how accurate is the optical sensor, thank you!
Nice video! I will use your code for sure. I am wondering if I should buy Oura ring or Whoop strap. I am focus on health traking, but I would not wear the ring in the gym. Is it important the sport traking for better sleep tips after?
Hello, Is there a chance to make a video that matches up the performance of the same watches but one of them is "upside down" on your wrist, and see is it more accurate that way ? (I would like to see that with the galaxy watch 7 if possible)
Hi! - How I included heart rate testing data: I included all data after the 2024 summer heart rate update. 4 workouts were excluded due to issues with the reference device missing signal. - How I included sleep stage testing data: I included all nights from 01-01-2024 until 2024-05-10 I had data for (the latest data I had data export for). This resulted in 54 nights of data with both good EEG and Whoop data.
Bought woop strap yesterday with your code. I am not fully convinced yet but ill try it out for a year. I am chosing the strap just because i prefer the factor form to avoid wearing 2 watches 😂. I hope that they're going to fix hr with weightlifting since it's one of the two activities i perform (gym and padel)
Could you please test the Redmi Watch 4 and 5? They have a large battery and a new type of sensors. Apple Watch has very poor battery life, which is why I am not interested in considering it.
If you go view the apple watch videos, you'll see they almost always perform the best for weightlifting. Just skip through to the part where he shows the graph with all devices for weightlifting HR.
See I found the whoop absolutely awful. I had one for the free trial and sent it back. It was out for almost everything compared to my Garmin fenix 6x pro and that wasnt great. I have a 7 pro now and it tracks my heart rate within a couple of beats of my chest strap
Regarding the apparent discrepancy in temperature, I believe Matt Walker (Sleep Expert) said something specifically about this in his appearance at the Joe Rogan podcast. I can't remember if it matches your pattern exactly as it's been a while but I remember it being paradoxical like that, with the core body temp cooling/warming while your extremities do the opposite, as it wakes up or gets ready to sleep, so it's possible that your measurements are very precise still :)
Whoop is a good concept but, sleep analysis is just not up to par vs Apple Watch! Whoop always has most of my sleep in the light phase, with very little if any REM sleep. I know I have very vivid dreams as I remember most of them and Oxygen saturation is always off. Let’s not talk about it counting steps correctly, that off by 3-4000 steps each day! Calories are always way over estimated. Those that either take meds that control heart rate along with BP and/or have a pacemaker will not be served by Whoop as it relies heavily on HRV which is controlled heavily by certain cardiac meds and pacemakers. So recovery score will most likely be negatively skewed more times than not. They need to add a category in the journal for those who have a pacemaker or are taking anti arrhythmia meds so it will take that into consideration when calculating. Whoop is getting sent back!!
@fearward-name Thank you. Do you find it accurate for your swim tracking in terms of length, distance, pace, heart rate... What other measures do you use Whoop for?
@Alban.Bytyqi whoop only track the HR zone. How long I've spent in each zone, max HR, avg HR, duration, calories. I have to use another watch on my wrist to track length, pace...etc
especially in case of the whoop, i disagree with your conclusion that we would not pay much attention to the awake time. Whoop calculates recovery and strain etc with it, which is the core of the whole thingy And in my case, the awake detection is terrible, in terms of duration. Instead of 20, perhaps 30 min, it continues to indicate 2h..2h40... this diminishes all other health numbers and corrupting the trust in any other number. the new step counter is terrible as well, with a deviation of 300%+ too much. For me a clear no go.
The reason I don’t look at awake time is because I think the reference is not measuring the right thing there. I don’t believe it is not important , just that I cannot test it well
@@TheQuantifiedScientist I suspect that it's too big for your wrist... probably not so good results (worse than Balance) with HR measurements. I'm curious for the sleep, it should be better than in the past.
Well, they were in financial trouble, and were taken over: www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/beacon-biosignals-acquires-dreem-launches-at-home-sleep-monitoring-services-for-clinical-trials-301873574.html. After which they promptly shut down the servers for "normal users" and started asking for tens of thousands of euros to use their platform. I.e. I have 3 paperweights at home now :-(
I have been using a whoop for about 2 months now and am quite disappointed with the product.Even though the band collects data accurately, the final product is stupid. All activities need to be started and paused manually through the app, auto detect never worked. The strain calculation also seems to be random. Even though I feel extremely well Sometimes Whoop says the opposite. Maybe this will improve over time, but my current impression is not good.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Hope it get's better... My experience has been good, but thanks for sharing! I might make a video where I ask my subscribers about their happiness with different brands :-)
Thanks for the detailed study. Looking at value, I would say higher cost does not support the quality of data which should be top quartile in every category in my opinion.
Bro, can you please do "Anarc Watch" testing ? It's a watch by a Indian YouTubre, he's comparing in accuracy with apple watch and fooling people. Please please do it please

He has done something on Withins and I personally like it too but AW for accuracy all the way.
Please do test of Latest Layers ANARC Watch
thank you so much for your work man!!
Please make a video about the new Oura ring 4 🙏🙏
Thanks for your scientific test. Please, can't wait for sleep tests for apple watch 10- 46mm
Hey are you planning to review the Kardena Care Vital? It would be very interesting to see whether it can keep up with the whoop, because it can actually messure the same data.
Like others have mentioned, subsription model is not the ideal and as a weight lifter it seems like Whoop is not the best choice.
Please do an Alarmo study to see how good it is for tracking sleep vs this Whoop
Awesome! Thank you!
Heating your apartment (or not) affects device performance indoors? Assuming that was a tongue in cheek note.
Hi , guys! What to choose garmin fr 265🏃♂️ or Aw 10🍏? for sleep and recovery tracking 🤷♂️
Do we know if the sensors work through heavy tattoos? It would be awesome if there could be a pinned comment or note somewhere for functionality though heavy tattoos.
How do you export the wearables' data for you to use it in R or Python?
25:15 roast of the year :D
Hi Rob, I was wondering have you tested Casio hw h5600 watch? It's apparently using Polar app. I'm curious how accurate is the optical sensor, thank you!
10:31 the sport-by-sport correlation facet plots are great!
Was the whoop on the wrist during all these tests or did you use other straps?
Is the emf radiation safe since there is no airplane mode? I heard whoop emf was one of the highest.
Nice video! I will use your code for sure. I am wondering if I should buy Oura ring or Whoop strap. I am focus on health traking, but I would not wear the ring in the gym. Is it important the sport traking for better sleep tips after?
Can you please review the our ring gen 4 and compare to whoop 4??? Thank you love your work.
Hello, Is there a chance to make a video that matches up the performance of the same watches but one of them is "upside down" on your wrist, and see is it more accurate that way ?
(I would like to see that with the galaxy watch 7 if possible)
Sir, i am having Honor watch gs pro.. can you give your thought on the sensors.. is it reliable?
25:18 Yes, "C" stands for CORRECT. 😄
Did you see any difference since the last update or is the analistic data part with the new software?
Do you have a Quantified Scientist whoop group?
Bought woop strap yesterday with your code. I am not fully convinced yet but ill try it out for a year.
I am chosing the strap just because i prefer the factor form to avoid wearing 2 watches 😂.
I hope that they're going to fix hr with weightlifting since it's one of the two activities i perform (gym and padel)
Could you please test the Redmi Watch 4 and 5? They have a large battery and a new type of sensors. Apple Watch has very poor battery life, which is why I am not interested in considering it.
Please try to compare Bevel vs Whoop!
Please review layers anarc watch by famous indian tech youtuber Techburner
You have forgotten a very good watch

Did you ever do a Garmin Fenix 8 review?
Are you going to review the amazfit trex 3?
Would love if you tested the Frontier X2 chest strap.
I love your reviews will there be a fenix 8 review ?
Yes there will 😊. Later this year early next year
Ultrahuman ring?
Where is the fenix 8?
What device do you recommend for weightlifting?
No device necessary. Just track your sets and weights with a tracking app.
If you go view the apple watch videos, you'll see they almost always perform the best for weightlifting. Just skip through to the part where he shows the graph with all devices for weightlifting HR.
@@granthancock3622 totally agreed, Apple Watch 100%
Can you test the rise app please ? 🐹🥺
PS: I appreciate your work so much, thank you for the content !
Can you review the Huawei Watch D2 please.
Any chance for a Huawei Watch D2 review?
Working on it
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Can't wait, I already bought one, but I might return it depending on your finidings
See I found the whoop absolutely awful. I had one for the free trial and sent it back. It was out for almost everything compared to my Garmin fenix 6x pro and that wasnt great. I have a 7 pro now and it tracks my heart rate within a couple of beats of my chest strap
For me, it's spot-on. My skin tone is pretty much identical to Rob's though.
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting it performed differently on you
I wear mine on my bicep and is almost 100 percent accurate compared to a chest strap
great video, can you please try huawei watch d2?
The Whoop is super expensive when you use it for multiple years!!!
Could you make a review of the ultrahuman ring?
can you make a video on oura ring 4 vs ultrahuman ring
Regarding the apparent discrepancy in temperature, I believe Matt Walker (Sleep Expert) said something specifically about this in his appearance at the Joe Rogan podcast. I can't remember if it matches your pattern exactly as it's been a while but I remember it being paradoxical like that, with the core body temp cooling/warming while your extremities do the opposite, as it wakes up or gets ready to sleep, so it's possible that your measurements are very precise still :)
Found it, if you search his name and Rogan's with "Fall asleep by taking a hot bath" there's a short on it.
Thanks for sharing 😌
Hi Rob thank you for the detailed review.
Please kindly to update Galaxy Watch 6 series they already got Watch UI 6 software update!
New budget smart watch claiming to be somewhat accurate layers anarch please review it
Can you test Ultrahuman ring?
Please compare anarc watch by layers
Please do G-SHOCK DW-H5600 review, thank you
Would be great to see test for Suunto Race cause it’s quite popular.
Whoop is getting sent back!!
it is not about hardware but software. Apple software if terrible. Whoop has a real nice metrics.
Can you please try Amazfit Cheetah round and t rex 3?
Do now FRONTIER X2 and OURA 4!
Does it track swimming
Yes
@fearward-name
Thank you.
Can you please review Ultrahuman ring
especially in case of the whoop, i disagree with your conclusion that we would not pay much attention to the awake time. Whoop calculates recovery and strain etc with it, which is the core of the whole thingy
And in my case, the awake detection is terrible, in terms of duration.
I don’t believe it is not important , just that I cannot test it well
Kindly review ANARC smartwatch released by an Indian youtuber.
Yes please @TheQuantifiedScientist
It looks like a generic Chinese watch they ordered in bulk from Alibaba then put on custom branding/skin. Don't be fooled
Amazfit t rex 3?
Just finished the heart rate testing :-)
@@TheQuantifiedScientist I suspect that it's too big for your wrist... probably not so good results (worse than Balance) with HR measurements. I'm curious for the sleep, it should be better than in the past.
Apple watch 10 42mm sleep test, please.
Withings looks better but also with subscription
You dont need a subscription for Withings.
Please do a Xiaomi smart band 9 pro reviewwww
I don't think dreem went bankrupt? can't find anything about that
Well, they were in financial trouble, and were taken over: www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/beacon-biosignals-acquires-dreem-launches-at-home-sleep-monitoring-services-for-clinical-trials-301873574.html. After which they promptly shut down the servers for "normal users" and started asking for tens of thousands of euros to use their platform. I.e. I have 3 paperweights at home now :-(
Bro make a video on ultrahuman ring air... please
I wish Garmin made a "whoop"
I will wait for 5.0
What 5.0?
@ whoop 5.0 is coming soon
@@gavilanu people have been saying this since middle of 2023
@@ilbroducciore but now it is true
