well after playing on warmane for years, i can assure you that paladin is the most broken class in all of wotlk. all 3 specs are needed in every 10 and 25 man raid because of the buffs and cooldowns and all 3 specs are one of the best at what theyre doing.
This is why everyone rolling paladin is funny. Dudes are legit shooting themselves in the foot changing their main when they haven't dealt with the DKs yet lol.
Been a pally from the beginning of Classic. I have enjoyed playing the evolution of this class since the “beginning” seeing as I missed it originally. Paladin has always been my class.
Back in the pre-patch for Wrath, when my guild did a Hyjal run, as a ret paladin I was able to get top damage and healing thanks to Light Judgements and all the NPCs attacking the boss...
salvation has a 2 min cd and lasts for 10 sec reducing 2% per sec plus whatever from talents, big nerf, justified too since a lot of classes gain threat reduction in their kit now, threat overall will be less of a problem especially in the later patches
It's fascinating to look at the Prot tree now that I'm older and... well, probably not wiser. But, more knowledgable, maybe. I remember looking at talents like Divinity, Divine Sacrifice, and Ardent Defender and going... "Wow, those look meh." Light, I was bad back then(I was pretty young, though...). How on earth did I go all the way to Halls of Reflection?
When I played Vanilla WoW I had no concept of threat at all, but I wanted to play as a Warrior with a shield, so when I got the skill Taunt that said "Taunts the target to attack you", I thought it was a completely useless skill... why would I _want_ to be hit?! (I proceeded to play as Prot Warrior for the next ~15 years or so)
Excellent video, i played a holy paladin all tbc. hit 2.2k in 2s with a hunter and lock, which took so much effort. I swapped ret wotlk and had plenty of friends who were ret or prot/ret hitting glad and rank 1. It's highly viable as you run faster than every class and you have justice to judge to slowing them at least 15% slower than you. Double ret was a 2k comp in 2s. its just an OP class and to me, meta.
Yes! The problem is that when you pop your wings, your adversaries get that kill switch on you, and they know you won't be able to use any meaningful defensive cooldowns. Ret is strong, but you need a lot of discipline when facing casters, specially mages and warlocks. I used to main warlock on a wotlk private server and I smirked whenever I saw a pally popping his wings
I'm seriously considering maining paladin for wrath C. Ret for pvp and maybe prot for dungeons and maybe raids (idk if time will allow raids). Mained a healer originally so trying something fresh
Think this is gonna be my main alt class for Wrath. Pretty sure most people are gonna be jumping on the DK bandwagon but Ive been waiting to play this version of the paladin for a while.
Back when WotLK was about to come out, ret was insane! I could literally kill most allied players my level with one move. Crusader strike with seal of command. Just so insanely powerful!!!
Yea while Ret doesn't have snare in pvp, judgement of justice is insanely strong and a good counter against many classes...factored in with pursuit of justice talent we can close the gap on targets in that sense
Protadins can solo pretty much all group content most other classes cannot. And, when well-geared, even if your healer dies you might still make it, depending on the fight. I don't remember if you mentioned Holy Wrath but Holy Wrath! Don't forget most mobs are undead and Holy Wrath and Exorcism only work, or work best, vs the Undead. Add these to your already broken consecration and Seal of Command and you can say paladins were in very good spot when it came to tanking large groups in Wrath. Did I mention Ardent Defender in its Wrath form is still considered one of the most overpowered ability in the history of WoW?
I will play prot pally in WOTLK classic. However, ret leveliing was much faster than prot levelling in WOTLK. I assume this will be the same in WOTLK classic ?
I cant decide what to do with my paladin, Holy in Classic, Prot in TBC, thinking ret in WotLK? But i do want to raid and im unsure if rets will be swamped come this xpac.
thinking of making / boosting a pally. Is prot viable for lvling? or would it be slow?. I feel like playing holy as my main pvp spec but since that is not good for lvling, maybe prot lvling
Played as Holy for pve and hybrid holy-retri for pvp. Best healer in raids and pretty much never died in arena and battleground. Too broken. Loved it. Good times.
I see much more prot paladins tanks now in tbc and seems like it'll be the same in wotlk, so i would like to ask the prot pallies of here, are you playing a prot paladin o ly because they're considered the best tanks in a few situations, or only because you like the class?
I rerolled from a fury warr to a prot paladin when tbc started. I like the class but was aware of the other positive things like aoe farming and their potential to be the best tank in WOTLK. It took a bit to get used to their playstyle, I only played holy pala in WOTLK and had pretty much no idea how prot worked in TBC. Never looked back, it's been fun progressing through all the content these months
Bring on the bacon! I think you really underplayed how strong Art of War is in pvp, it fundamentally changes every single 1vs1 match up because it prevents you from being counterspelled/kicked and allows the pally who now moves at boosted movement speed with buff to Pursuit of justice to keep pressure on spell casters. Another thing to note is that there is no holy resistance in the game, so divine storm, crusader and exorcism are barely every resisted and that you can glyph your turn evil spell to be instant cast ( along with holy wrath and avengers shield being instant cast now too)
With the big difference that as Paladin you can actually fill all three roles. So you are much more flexible to adapt to the respective server composition without rerolling.
Paladins will be way too common in wotlk. I remember raiding 25 naxx with 17 palas back in the day. So if you want a raidspot and loot it might not be the best class
Gotta find a guild now, but man there are alot of really bad paladins. I had one raid in tbc recently replace me for one that was better geared. 10 minutes later begged me to come back. Turns out that paladin didn't have pallypower, couldn't use anything but holy light, etc. Paladin isn't a class you show up and expect it to play for you. Even in wrath, we get some goodies but there's still mechanical things you gotta do that aren't flashy but you gotta do them otherwise your raid or pvp notice pretty hard. Even in PvP, I see really bad rets or prots trying to do things that aren't good PvP moves. I'm legit excited to drive into wrath classic and pick apart the resist changes and other goodies that aren't in the private server coding.
@@ryanbruce3670 I mean if you are one of those 17 sure. But I can see his point. If you don't have a good guild now, then don't expect to find one in wrath. And at most 2 of those 17 are holy and 1-2 are prot so that means it's a DPS problem.
The fun thing about paladin in Wrath was that a 50/0/21 Holy Build focusing on Holy Shock and all the int/spellpower/hit/crit/haste proc talents (aka Shockadin) was one of the best single target dps specs in the game purely because of how many undead enemies there were in the expac combined with the fact that Exorcism always crit vs undead and demons. The fell off a little during Ulduar and the 1st half of ToGC but was still very competitive. For the 2nd half of ToGC, Baradin Hold and ICC (including the ICC dungeons) Shockadins were just walking nukes that blew everything up (and even gave you an extra person dumping high heals into the boss in addition to the crazy damage output on high priority adds for the Valithria fight in ICC).
Nah, Shockadin was far from the best single target dps. In fact, Shockadin is famous mostly from TBC PvP by using the right trinkets, pop a bunch of CD and do insane burst for a second, then after that it has no damage. It was so strong in PvP because they could function as a healer, but at any point if an enemy got to half hp you could just finish them off wit the insane burst. Most people stopped playing it in wotlk because it wasn't good anymore. I guess it was somewhat more "viable" back in actual wotlk, because it was much more common to play with a lot of people who had no idea about how to play properly, how gearing worked etc. - essentially, shockadin wasn't really viable, but when optimized and compared to people who didn't optimize it might seem more viable. If classic has shown us anything, it is that gamers are different now and people will either theorycraft or look up a guide on gear and rotation online. Either way, shockadin will not be viable. But hey, if anyone think it's fun, go for it!
@@BreakerBeat The the updates and additions to both talents and the Exorcism spell itself between TBC and Wrath changed a lot of things. The TBC Shockadin and the Wrath Shockadin were vastly different creatures. Wrath Shockadins (or perhaps a descriptor you would find more personally comfortable is "DPS Holy") had access to talents, glyphs and other buffs to offensive non-melee spells that flat out didn't exist in TBC.
