  • Hey folks, in this video we're going to show you a power steering rack replacement on a Buick Regal. This Rack and pinion removal will also be useful for the: Buick Oldsmobile and Pontiac models that have the 3.8 and quite possibly many other front wheel drive general motors vehicles.
    Power steering leaks happen all the time, and it's easy to rack up a big bill at the repair shop (get it) :D. So we wanted to show you the easiest way for you to remove your rack and pinion on your Buicks, GM vehicles
    FOR THE BIGGEST AND BEST PARTS CATALOG, CHECK OUT DORMAN PRODUCTS AT: www.dormanproducts.com/pages/...
    This video is going to show you the easiest way to replace your power steering rack.
    To save time I only wrote one description for the installation video and the removal video please don’t think too bad of me LOL this is a lot a lot of work!!! And even though I know not too many people are going to be working on these automobiles any longer I was doing the work and I felt like my video described it much better than the other videos that I seen on TH-cam so hopefully you will think the same thing as well.
    Automobile manufacturers actually only make 4 to 7 different model cars but they may have up to 15 different names and styles for them underneath the sheet metal the vehicles are often identical they do this to continuously make profits and making more of one part is much easier than making fewer of several different parts.
    It’s probably going to be very similar to the rack and pinion removal on a grand am am as well.
    We would very much appreciate if you would watch the whole video .(sometimes I’m fun) So you can inform yourself with all the great information that I put in my videos and God bless. I hope the videos helpful for you!
    And Thank you for viewing!

      @@sharpcarco Hey Clay....I did my 09 DTS rack and pinion yesterday....and as you promised, I feel the sense of accomplishment. I never did a rack before and never touched a subframe bolt, LOL but noooooow, I can say, I did one before!. Thanks again for your inspiration.

    Very quick to the point and not wasting a lot of time video which is what I like. Around the 14:10 mark those ratcheting swivel long box wrenches are one of the best sets of wrenches I ever bought. The set I bought are made by Mountain Tools which I believe they make for Matco Tools. Now I need to pick up some of those crows feet wrenches.

    Excellent video. I watched a few videos before when I originally ordered my new R&P for a 1996 Buick Riviera. I'm glad I checked again and found yours since it looks identical to what I have to do. You have a knack for describing things well without being too verbose as you are in the middle of doing the procedure, just like Eric The Car Guy.

    I like the angle you took to get to the rack power steering line hose nuts. I plant to cut my regular 18 mm crows foot wrenches I half to make it easier to get to them. The stubby 18s aren’t sold locally.

    I have a 2001 Century with loose steering. Not sure if rack and pinion needs to be replaced yet, but I am considering replacing everything - tie rods, and control arms. Would you recommend anything else?

    It's important to know if you have magmasteer or not. I'm thinking if you have electrical wires running to your rack you have magnasteer and if you don't you don't. Am I correct?

    Hey man, is this similar to a 2005 Buick Century with 3.1 V6? Thanks

      @sharpcarco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very much so because they are the same frames and basically the same models even though they have a different engine it should be extremely similar if not identical

    Oil seals for these rack & pinion each cost from $30 to $60 a piece. So money wise, by the time you rebuild them you might as well bought a whole new one.

      I feel ya…. I say that stuff in my videos because sometimes even that $160 difference is the difference between eating for a week for some families and paying rent so.

      I'm thinking once you have both sides disconnected you probably should at least lock the steering column the protect the clock spring.

    Why didn't you just let frame down and loosened the bolts holding the rack? Just asking not criticizing at all. All respect

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      3 reasons most of rust we are in Michigan……. 2 you MAY need an alignment 3 it doesn’t need to be done it’s not necessary.
      Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you mentioned that you were not criticizing because I would’ve assumed you were lol so thank you very much welcome to the channel

      Well it’s kind of because of Covid the dog ate my false teeth during Covid and I was embarrassed about it…. back then I had money to buy new ones but….. sense that I have spent most of it and I never got any of the money that The government was handing out….. Now I don’t have it and I don’t care

      I understand. Good video. I went from underneath to get the lines out. A lift helps a ton. I also have to replace the 4 subframe bushings so dropping the rear of the subframe will work out. Them bushings are expensive as shit

      It’s also hard to hear me when you’re skipping through the video…….. since the only reason you would show any kind of animosity with a statement like that would be because you didn’t hear why I was wearing it……. Because it definitely didn’t have anything to do with Covid
