I have a quite a few hardware synths, and though I don't intend to get rid of them, I'm not sure I'd buy them again in hindsight. In hindsight with the LXR-02, I just wish I'd discovered it sooner.
Just bought one and returning it. Yes you can get nice sounds out of it but I found the sound design on each Instrument to be not so fun. I would turn the whole knob on the different parameters and sound wouldn’t change much. Overall most of the sounds you get are tinny, metallic and harsh. Not what I expected as a synthesizer. My po32 with microtonic are a much better option and that duo together is only $200. Hope this helps someone that’s on the fence.
I feel torn. It sounds kinda lifeless. But the drum thing and Erica synth has been a problem with eurorack already. Their decay barely does anything. I’d wish malleko would release their manther like analogue drum machine.
also just realizing microtonic is a vst! ie youd need a computer which would definitely be part of this price (though i see that you can be free of the computer after downloadong sounds etc) but i kind of prefer this interface to the calculator-style hardware of the po32, just gonna save up!
The roll preformance trick looks cool. But wondering if I could say roll and pitch or filter sweep at the same time? Would only make sense to me, but looks like that would need an additional midi controller?
You can do morph, samplerate reduction and rolls at once since those are in the performance page. You can also record a roll and save as a new pattern, chain them and then hang in the voice page where you can do pitch and filter. Or like you said, connect an external midi cc controller
Ok, this is the second demo I've watched and the LXR 2 sounds harsher than the LXR sitting on my desktop. I don't know if it's the kit programming or the convertors or my imagination or the youtube compression or what.
I never had the first one, but I know this one has up to 4 bar patterns rather than a single bar, while the other had more micro timing options. The 2 uses a better processor, the chassis and layout are new and match the DB-01 Bassline. There are more differences of course, this is just what I had off the top of my head.
@@TheFlippertube Sure, but the LXR1 is buggy AF too. Mine regularly crashes if I try to modify drum voices while it's synced over MIDI. Kinda why it collects dust outside of sampling sessions. From the videos I've watched, it's a very similar workflow to the mkI, so that'd be primarily Sonic Potions user interface skills on display, which are also pretty good.
@@martypetrisot9209 I'm not sure! Maybe the new FW runs on the OG, worth a try :) Can always flash back to the previous if needed, or maybe even hack the new FW to apply the fixes to the old one?

@@QuincasMoreira Thanks for the reply. Do you know if they're continuing with the original DIY model? Trying to get answers from Sonic Potions has been historically difficult in my experience.

sounds great! do you happen to know if the step probability only does percentages, or if you can also set a step to play, for example, one in every four (1:4) etc like on the db-01?
Yeah totally different Than the Digitone. DN is primarily a 3.5 OP FM synthesizer that can make drum sounds. It’s playground is massive. The LXR is a drum machine that you can co-opt into light synth duties. It’s quite a bit more subtractive in approach and the sound palette is more “Hi fi nintendo” than FM. The delay in this thing is what really sells it, at short settings you can almost get a comb filter synthesis effect that the DN definitely can’t do. I view them as compliments, they just do different things.
@@QuincasMoreira Reminds me of a lot of the sounds you can make on the MachineDrum, so I feel pretty sold on a machine with a much smaller form factor.
This looks super cool, but if I knew a new version was coming out I would have waited to buy and build the original LXR kit :/ Not that I'm not happy with it, I just wish the Sonic Potions people made more news about this new product.

When you have a rather new company that makes innovative instruments that aren’t mass produced like Roland and other brands you get a heftier price. Deservingly so, everything below this price range is your average boring retro synth that has been overused, overproduced and most of all digital and not analog.
Sergio, I agree with almost everything you said except the “analog vs digital” part! Nowadays there’s as much cheap analog crap as digital, and as much digital excellent stuff as analog. This one for example, is fully digital!
