I have the makita 2401b that was my grandpas and I'm going to install a new cord and use a 10" cutting wheel and use it for metal. I have a Kobalt sliding compound miter saw for wood and this would bring an actual use again to the Makita. I may even buy a Diablo steel demon blade for it in the future dor metal cutting.

Wow! My old Craftsman Miter saw resembles your Makita pretty closely. In fact, the handle is darn near broken in exactly the same place. My saw has also been in my storage shed for many years. While we don't get much rain here in Phoenix, Az, the dry heat will do nasty things to plastic. I have a recovery job in front of me but this video will go a long way to help me. The handle repair was genius!

Nice refurbishing effort. However, If I were you, I would certainly buy a new handle case for it. If someone is using it and that handle lets go, who knows what could happen to the person using it. Thumbs Up!

I have a 1984 version of this saw. It’s brand new in box, my father in law (75yrs old) bought it and never used it and gave it to me.

i repaired the handle of a favourite drill using epoxy and stainless steel mesh. i roughened the area with very coarse sandpaper. the mesh was held to the shape in place using copper wire then the epoxy was applied. the copper wire was later removed and another layer of epoxy was applied.

Did the armature bearing (brushes side ) when you took it apart, was it a sealed grease unit or was it greaseless to provide some sort of electrical path for a brake safety feature? Or was it greaseless
so you wouldn't get any on the brushes?

well to be honest its in prety good condition. nice bearings, no side of rust inside, nice original clean grease in gears, even plastic inserts for clean cut are there. Great saw it is, im going to buy same, not so lucky though in a bit worse condition.
