Ola, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Seven-Pole Wiring System for your trailer, on a 2020 Ford F-150. So this system is gonna allow you to hook into your trailer and give you all your signals for braking, lighting, reverse, whatever it may be, as well as your brake controller. And this is gonna keep you safe and legal while towing a trailer. The system itself is rather easy and ties into your factory tow harness wiring. Now you also have this spring loaded door, that has a nice gasket. So, this can stay on the back of your truck, and water or any road grime will not build up.
The install is pretty straightforward, it ties into your factory wiring, there's no customer wiring that you need to do. Simply just connect the plugs themselves, install the ground wire, and you're ready to go. So this is my first time ever installing this, so if you're apprehensive about doing it yourself, I'm gonna show you how to do it and I'll walk you through all the steps, and we can do this together. So to begin our installation, we're gonna wanna drop our spare tire out of the way. And that's gonna give us a lot more accessibility to the plug, which is gonna be sitting on the top side here, where the driver is, on the driver's side, kinda tucked up on, above our hitch area.
So you're gonna just going to follow where your tow package wiring goes to, and find the clip. So our clip sits up here again, we traced it back, making sure we have the correct one, and the clip has just a little press on top, and it should separate, like that. So, since our wiring didn't come with brackets to mount it on the backside, we're gonna install these here, which we have at etrailer. And so, you're gonna want to see which way works, there's a number of different ways, but we're gonna mount it onto our hitch. And the way we're gonna do it here, is putting it there, and we also have a dropdown bracket where the plug will sit, so make sure you have clearance, and once you found the spot that you like, you can see there is this hose clamp here.
So you can pop that out, and this will simply wrap around it. And once you feed this kinda back in place, move that bolt down. So holding our bracket in place, you'll just take an eight millimeter, and tighten this down. Now we're gonna take our front facing bracket and just feed these two bolts through, which we're supplied, and feed it into the holes of the bracket. Now we're gonna take our supplied nuts, hand tighten those down, with the teeth facing up.
Now with a three-eights socket, we're just gonna tighten this up. Here's the harness that comes with the kit, So you can see the two connectors here as well as the ground wire, and that will feed to our 7-bolt connector. So, gonna just go ahead and plug these in to the existing plugs. So you can see the little slides here that's how you know the designation of the plug is in the correct orientation. Try to get in a pull, make sure it's not coming off, and you're good to go. So now we're going to take our ground wire, with the supplied self-tapping screw, and find a nice place to ground it out. I've chosen right here 'cause it's out of the way and it shouldn't cause any issues. So with our quarter inch driver, we'll just simply self-tap that in to metal. Make sure that the ground wire is secure and don't go too tight on this. So, with our bracket here, we have our outlet, so what we're gonna do, simply set it in there and the holes should line up. Using the supplied hardware, just feed these in, and hand tighten these down. Make sure that the teeth on the nut are facing in towards the bracket. So now with my flathead and three-eights, I'm gonna simply tighten those bolts up, I'm gonna make it to where they're horizontal, just to kind of give it a good uniform look across, and hold that in place, and tighten that down with your three-eighths. Does not need to be too terribly tight. So before installing our plug into the outlet itself, it's important to put some dielectric grease, and this is going to ensure that your contacts are still making contact with you a little bit of wiggle, so this kind of fills that void. So go ahead, place some in the connectors before setting it in. And if you don't audibly hear it click when squeezing it, make sure that this tab here is locked on to here. Now you're gonna wanna really give it nice solid grip, so press on the front and backside to get it to clip together. So, it's all hooked up, now we just wanna tie up our electrical lines since we do have quite the excess of them. So included in the kit are a few
