    This was a game changer! I often would plug in to charge my house batteries if boon docking but couldnt figure this out! Thought it was my connection. This WORKED!

    Good info Sean.I'll file it away in my brain for when I eventually run into this same problem. At work we put commercial jumpers right from the battery run to the rear bumper. On the bumper there is a 2 wire quick connect. We keep the loose end in the bed toolbox to keep it clean and dry. It's about $100. We use it to operate the jacks and slide out on 5th wheels and travel trailers

    Thank you, Sir! You saved me hours, perhaps a visit to a shop, trying to figure this out. I installed lithium batteries with a DC-to-DC charger. Everything tested fine before I mounted everything, after mounting the charger would not power up. Following the procedures in the video solved my problem.

    I have a 2019 250 and a 2021 superduty. The work around I found and it works everytime even if you don't have a battery. I have 2 trailers with a power jacks only. Back up to you trailer and plug in the 7 way trailer connection. Then put your emergency brake on so the truck won't roll away and shift from park to drive and then to neutral. Leave the truck in neutral and the parking brake on for safety and the aux power will turn on. I have to do this every time to use my powered jack. Hopefully this will help it works on both my trucks. FYI I now have a 2024 f250 and Ford must have changed something because it works as soon as I plug it in without going thru all those steps

      Going to try this ! My 2019 f150 won’t run my power jack but all my other trucks run it just fine !

    Perhaps the reason they engineered this way was to isolate the truck starting battery from the RV /trailer to prevent the trailer / RV from running the battery dead. Example, you pull over to rest on an RV trip and run equipment in the RV that would otherwise run down the starting battery. Designed this way, the RV battery can be charged while driving without the risk of running down the stating battery. Thoughts?

    Thanks for the video. Have read in the guide how you have to get the power to turn on put your foot on brake and have the system detect the trailer.
    Most trucks u put foot on brake and shift.
    The lack of definition of detecting the trailer is troubling to me.
    My trailer, RV 5th wheel lights all work, trailer brakes work. Brake controller appears to work.
    The power circuit has two fuses related to it, 7 and 26 according to my Ford guide. My next step is to check the fuse socket to see if either side of the fuse socket is hot and when.
    My rv has 12 volt power, and that is at the end of the 7 way trailer plug. My rv trailer when plugged in to shore power the rv battery is charged.
    A tester with a LED light is or can be misleading. My truck and trailer with 7 way connected. Then plug a 7 way tester to the bumper 7 way socket will light the LED light for the 12 power, but is not from the truck it is 12 volts from the trailer.
    The Ford fuse for 7 and 26, i removed and in my case are good.
    I use upfitter switches and it is not my first choice to try and use as a modifyed so called fix.
    Good luck with you trailer and power to GPS trackers.

    Or get a 4way flat to 7way round female adapter, then relocate the brown wire over one slot to the 12V slot and you'll have 12v power when you plug your 7pin jack plug.

      This shit is killing me. I want to plug in a 12v accessory so I bought a 7 blade round with a built in 12 v outlet off of Amazon but because the truck won’t send the power, it doesn’t work 😩😩

    One way to test if your trailer battery is indeed charging would be to look for 14 volts at your trailer battery. If it’s at 12.5 volts, it isn’t charging.

  • @MrJimmie688
    @MrJimmie688 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Could run a wire constant from battery and install a diode on that charging line so it won't back feed

    • @MrJimmie688
      @MrJimmie688 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used diodes to use two bulb tail lights where three were supposed to be .. instead of brake and running on one bulb and blinker on its own ..I made it brake blinker running on one bulb .....used a Ford ranger bed on a Mazda pickup ..they have different tail light harness and mainlines ... Used them diodes so I didn't get back feed and the electric can only go one way instead of two circuits interfering with each other

    Thank you. Very helpful. IMO this is technology going backwards though. I just want a pin that's always hot so I can use the light in my horse trailer when the truck is parked and off. There is a fuse in place already so that should take care of any shorts that might happen for whatever reason.

    What if my truck slide in the bed camper has no brake lights? I think my 12 volt plug on the terminal does not activate because it doesn't sense my trailer brakes because it has none and doesn't turn on to charge my battery in my camper as I drive.

  • @JohnDiMartino
    @JohnDiMartino ปีที่แล้ว

    I I agree with you it is ridiculous. All my Fords are like that. My GM trucks as long as that fuse was in the fuse box that 12 V terminal was always hot. I’m going to cut the wire under the bumper and just run a whole new wire #8 to the battery thru a 40 amp fuse.

      Your truck camper marker lights/clearance lights are independent of this auxiliary power circuit. There is another issue if these don't work.

      A lot of us want 12v while the truck is idling. For example, i sometimes need lights in my trailer while I'm loading at night, and I'll be damned if im spending $300 to install an independent trailer battery for something thst simple.

    This video made me curios, so I had to test my 2022 F350. I have no power to the charging circuit when the ignition is off but have power to the charging circuit when the ignition is in the accessory position or the run position all while no trailer is connected; no idea why it would be different from your results.

    I tried your approach out with no success (f250 2020 model)
    I came across this video where a guy Jerry rigged some lights to each of the prongs to fool the truck into thinking it had a trailer attached, then applied the brake as you had suggested
    I tried this with my trailer /rv plug with the brake input, then unplugged my camper, tested the prong with a volt meter and plugged in my appliance - the 12v was operational.
    I guess our f250 needs to have all prongs active as if a trailer was hit he'd on + brake application before it turns on the 12v prong. Once it's on, it becomes a suicide line where it's active until I turn the truck off.
    Good luck, everyone.
