    It will be good to see any further updates on this. Or a comparison of other tents in the same price bracket. But for now it seems like this is the best bang for buck tent on the market right now.

    I just got this tent second hand on Facebook marketplace, with a zenith footprint which the guy said is similar to the cairngorm, all for £40 😀 only used once in his garden, so I think I got a good deal! I’ve yet to go my first camping trip but I’m hoping it will be a good first time tent for me and my dog 🐕 🥰

    If you peg out each end corners first as wide as possible you will get less contact between the inner and outer fly, the rumpled groundsheet indicates there is still some slack in the fabric, a flat pitch helps loads, learned this after using the Zenith 300 model over the last couple of years which is exactly the same as the Cairngorm. The 200 & 300 models can be bought new for less than £100 on fleabay which is a bargain for performance, weight, price ratio.

      Thanks for the comment! for the price its a decent little tent. It certainly felt well made and i'm sure if you really tensioned the guylines the outer will separate more and prevent the inner/outer contact. Hope the video was useful!

    Got the same tent that I used on the last weekend in Sept in Snowdonia (with the same 5C temps). Agree about condensation, however I started to pay more attention to the tensioning and found the i could reduce the chances of the inner touching the outer. Your pitch looks quite floppy compared to how i now set mine up.

    • @jboutdoors8165
      @jboutdoors8165  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for watching the video and sharing your experience with the tent!
      I fully agree that I could have pitched the tent with the guy lines more tensioned. It was probably down to the fact that it was a pretty new tent and I just needed to trust that the seams and stitching were up to the job and could handle some decent tension. I'll definitely keep your comment in mind and try and tension out the guy lines more next time im out. Other than that I think it's an excellent tent!

    • @rbstretch100
      @rbstretch100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jboutdoors8165 I also found that you sometimes need to play around with the direction of tension on the corners if the ground is not flat. I'm making it sound a faff, which it isn't. I really like the Cairngorm!

      Agreed, it's a solid tent for a reasonable price. I prefer to pitch outer then inner, and pack up in reverse purely to keep the inner dry when there's condensation on the outer. I need another camping trip now that the weather's nice!!!

    Thanks for the review. Is it a 3 or 4 season tent? As your review showed no mesh I am guessing it's 4 season. Hopefully you can clarify. Regards Chris

    • @jboutdoors8165
      @jboutdoors8165  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Chris, given that 4 season tents are supposed to deal with potential high winds and snow, id consider this more of a 3 person tent solely on the reason of its construction. It's a single pole tunnel tent and these tend to be less solid in high winds. As a result, it's probably safest to pitch this tent in a semi-sheltered area, Whereas a 4 season you could in theory pitch it in a open space with high winds. From a temperature point of view, however, it does keep the draft out pretty well.

    Thanks for the video! I have a little question... it's this tent similar to the Robens Starlight 2? Greetings from Germany ✌🏻

    • @jboutdoors8165
      @jboutdoors8165  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for the comment. Having not personally owned a starlight 2 it's difficult for me to comment. But looking at the specs, they both have their advantages. The robens packs down slightly smaller than the Cairngorm however the robens also weighs more. The groundsheet on the robens is 10000hh compared to the Cairngorms 6000hh however I don't think this is an issue as 6000 is more than enough for the wettest of trips. Both have the same flysheet HH rating. I'm sure they are both very similar in usage and you'll be happy with either!

    Any updates on how this tent holds up in wind? What would you say would be the max wind you would use it in?

    • @jboutdoors8165
      @jboutdoors8165  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate. I'd feel comfortable in 30mph winds. Pitched into the wind and with the guy lines set a good a distance from the tent that is. Other folks have said they've used it in gale force winds (comments below). Bare in mind it is a single pole tent so it will flap around a bit. Bring ear plugs

    Why would you store the outer sheet in a waterproof bag? Shouldn’t it be stored dried?

    • @jboutdoors8165
      @jboutdoors8165  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ideally yes, it should be stored dry. But if you're on a multi day hike it's not practical to let the tent dry out before setting out. If I know I'm pitching up the following night I just shake off condensation as much as possible and pack it, then let it dry out when I get to camp. If storing and not using the tent for a couple days you must dry it fully before packing and storing.
