We have the Cairngorm 300 and it's btilliant! We camped in our Vango Scafell 300 in very high winds and heavy rain and horrendous rain. It held up perfectly, so the cairngorm will as its tougher altogether! Only camped with the cairngorm yet under our hub and that's also Vango and boy did that also hold up to the wind and rain! I have liked and subscribed! Btw we have no qualms at all about taking and trusting our Cairngorm out this winter!
my cairngorm 200 trek is my favourite tent for the winter , so waterproof and strong, and my favourite bivvy is my jack wolfskin, thanks for the comments
Really solid review I think this is the one for me. Also glad to hear you can save a bit on the pegs and sack. Do you think you could cook in the vestibule or would you need the door open? Thanks
@@SunriseToSunsetwithStefDawson I am studying this question too, and because this is the very best review of this tent on TH-cam, I keep coming back to it to check on certain particulars. At 6:07 mins we can see that the inner is strapped to the outer by a clasp. If any more space was needed, the clasp could be unclipped and the inner tent temporarily brought inboard to create more floor space for cooking (the inner door would obviously be gone at that stage because you are in there leaning out into the vestibule). Once a brew or meal is complete, the strap could be re-clipped to the inner at its former position. Whilst cooking inside is always under caution (fire risk etc) I believe a low height remote feed burner (as indeed shown in this very video here) will enable a cautious foul weather brew or cook up. I would be wary of tall cookset assemblies that could topple or touch the fly sheet. A scalding, or a tent fire, or both, are the potential outcomes of getting it wrong. It is always safest however to have the door open as an escape route, and to have the stove outside too. I too am liking this tent. Kind regards.
Also I see you did a review of the nordisk telemark 2 would you say the were similar in size and vestibule area as the nordisk would be my dream tent but obviously a lot more expensive
@@SunriseToSunsetwithStefDawson just realised the old banshee doesn't have mesh door either. Just has mesh panel near to the door. Never missed the mesh in the banshee, but may miss it after the MSR. Still great value tho. Thanks for the review 👍
This system very similar to the Vango Micra 200 which I used for years... There was never an issue with midges where the tension band passes through the door.. the micro was a predecessor of the Cairngorm... I have many tents but enjoyed this style of tent the most...
if you follow my channel , then you will notice that this tent is still used most of the time even after 2 years from my review, and i am still happy with it, thanks for the comment and happy adventures
Yeah a 2 man tent is actually one man + gear 3 man is 2 + gear , 1 man tents are no good for anyone , but yeah good tent shame theres no fully meshed doors for a tent named after a midge infected mountain range theres no midge mesh doors ? , the double doors great if the wind changes (rain)
@@SunriseToSunsetwithStefDawson theyre great tents .almost perfect even , unfortunately i go away for longer periods than most (working in odd places) being tentbound can be depressing without a view , that slither of mesh makes a world of difference .
@@joekelly9369 I get the rationale behind your observation, and it is a good point to consider, so I did go back in the video and check, and there is a triangle of mesh above where the tension band goes through. It might be too high for the sightline looking out though. Kind regards.

This is such a helpful review! Thank you for this
i am always pleased to get feedback , and i am happy that my video was a helpful one
Is there four extra guideline points on the tent to peg in out ?
yes there is 2 on the sides
@@SunriseToSunsetwithStefDawson is there two on both sides thanks

you can cook with caution , you can even undo the floor attachment near the door and slide it back slightly to give more space

very similar in size, but i would say in cold or wet weather that the cairngorm is fantastic, i have even used it on icy nights
I found the nordisc a little lower in height and the hilleberg akto . (The vango helium is best light weight job ) but rare
Nice tent but why on earth did they not include Midge net on the inner doors. 🤔
that i do not know mate, it would certainly add to the ventilation

Allrite mate 😄👍... Thanks but I will have to pass. I like it with some reservations 😄👍
Not sure about that storm guide slot. That looks like you'll be inundated with midges.
i can not comment , because i have never had a problem and have never camped where there are lots of small midges

3 years actually now
In my old banshee band system went over the inside and not through it.
so you have to pitch the inner first ? , its cool as long as its not raining
Looks to have very poor ventilation?
actually to be honest the condemsation is better than most tents ,
Which pegs did you use to save that weight?
i used titanium pegs
Yeh, you'd struggle to get 2 adults in there for sure.
maybe with a tight squeeze and storing bags etc in the vestibule
