OEX Phoxx 1v2 Wild Camping on the Cliffs
Cliff top wild camping on the Cliffs of North Norfolk in the OEX Phoxx 1v2. Summer is just round the corner, time to get the camping gear out again! And what a perfect place to camp; on the towering cliffs of North Norfolk. Fields of yellow Oil Seed glowing in the sun, a calm sea and dry night made for a great camp out this time. Also tried out my homemade tin stove which seems to work perfectly and throw out a decent bit of heat. Hope you enjoyed coming with me on this one nighter. Plenty more videos on the way now that the weather is getting warmer. Solar showers, Hammock underquilts and hopefully (fingers crossed) another week wild camping somewhere in the UK! Drop your comments down below, let me know what trips you have planned and what questions you may have... happy to answer all! (Try to spot the continuity cut).

OEX Phoxx 1v2 Comprehensive Overview / First Impressions
มุมมอง 9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
First of all, a big thank you for 80 subscribers! Having only used the tent a few times in the field, i don't think i'm quite ready to give an honest opinion on the Phoxx 1v2. However, after a long winter in hibernation, i think its about time a few videos were rolled out. Here is my overview of the OEX Phoxx 1v2:

Firstly, id like to thank everyone for helping me reach 50 subscribers! In this video, we take a look at how to calculate your desired direction of travel and also how to locate your position on a map using triangulation. All that's required is a map with grid lines, a baseplate compass, pen or pencil and a few landmarks. As always, if you have any questions and liked the video, drop a comment.

Lake District Wild Camp PART 3 Scafell to Stickle Tarn

A long walk back up Scafell pike. Then walked to angle tarn and followed the footpath that branched NE towards Stickle Tarn. Managed to cross the river Stake Beck before ascending up towards Sergeant Man. (Stake Beck to Sergeant man was steep, and in my opinion more challenging that Scafell Pike. Descended towards Stickle Tarn. Beautifully calm with around 8 other wild campers.

Lake District Wild Camp PART 2 Black Crags to Scafell Pike
มุมมอง 1494 ปีที่แล้ว
After camping on Black Crags, we went to Bow Fell, Esk Pike and Great End. After Great End its a 20 minute walk to Scafell Pike. Fortunately its not such a big climb because most of the altitude is gained walking up to Great End. Scafell was rather windy, so a windproof jacket was much appreciated. Camped in the valley west of sprinkling tarn as it was rather windy that night.

    Lovely scenery there. Fantastic! What weight are you carrying in that 65 litre backpack please. It sounds as though more padding is needed to keep you comfortable. In the winter, that could be jumpers and jackets. In the summer, I can see there's a problem. Thanks for the update video

    Why would you store the outer sheet in a waterproof bag? Shouldn’t it be stored dried?

    • @jboutdoors8165
      @jboutdoors8165 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ideally yes, it should be stored dry. But if you're on a multi day hike it's not practical to let the tent dry out before setting out. If I know I'm pitching up the following night I just shake off condensation as much as possible and pack it, then let it dry out when I get to camp. If storing and not using the tent for a couple days you must dry it fully before packing and storing.

      For someone of a smaller build i'd definitely say no. Even if the pack does fit well, I've found the pack is quite wide and the centre of gravity sits further from your spine compared to slimmer (but taller packs), making the load feel even heavier. Honestly for longer treks with heavier loads, id recommend going for a slimmer profile backpack that hugs the spine, similar to the newer berghaus trailhead. However, it's a cheap and fairly durable pack and for a one off trip, it'll do.

  • @benjithomas3967
    @benjithomas3967 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just tried putting this up, and found that at the foot of the tent, it was almost impossible to get the material loose enough to insert the pole (even with the adjustment strap fully extended). it seems like there's too much tension to get it evenly stretched, and it looks wonky. Did you find this at all when pitching?

    • @jboutdoors8165
      @jboutdoors8165 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's funny you say this. Me and a mate were saying how difficult it is to fit the smaller pole a couple weeks ago. I don't think I mentioned this in my video, but I ended up taking 10mm off each end to make the pole smaller by 20mm. This gives enough room to fit the pole quickly and easily and still keeps the fabric taught. It's really easy to do, just untie the elastic from one end and cut the tips off square. I'll probably end up doing this to my mates phoxx1v2 too. Without doing this, like you probably already know, it feels like you're about to tear the fabric by forcing the pole to fit.

      @@jboutdoors8165 Thanks for the reply thats very vindicating! I thought I was stupid lol. How did you cut the metal? I've just used 3mm para similarly, doubled through then an overhand off each end around the two lines, figure eight to cinch to the hammock then fed it through my pod/sleeping bags footbox and through a tiny hole soldered through a conpression bag, figure eight the other side to lock. I have a further idea to seal it by tying a small loop of para around the outside and gently melting it to the comp bag strap with the hole through but haven't done that yet as this build is just a testbed. I now have a rain gaiter and draught seal built in.

    My pack is slightly different, the side pocket is not present, there is only one loop for treking poles, there are loops on the back of the pack presumably for attaching items with paracord and the height is adjusted with a velcro strap in the shoulder strap back panel. The pack support straps from the shoulder straps go through the top buckles on my pack and the lower ones are unused. I assume if the pack were rigged lower then they might then be used to support the pack from the shoulders instead but I cant see how your would get the straps out to run them through the lower buckles as their ends are folded and stitched making them too large to remove from the buckle. It is a good solid tough pack though

    • @jboutdoors8165
      @jboutdoors8165 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a slightly different model? To change the straps to the lower buckles, if it really can't be forced through, I'd either cut the end off or undo the stitching and attack the problem like that. Can always sew the fold back on a machine. If the bag is packed right to the top, however, it might be better to have the strap on the higher buckle to bring in your centre of gravity. Thanks for watching!

    • @-Rook-
      @-Rook- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jboutdoors8165 yes. Although its still called a Trailhead 65 they do seem to have changed the design somewhat. I use a medium height so the top buckle appears to be the right anchor point for that setting but if someone wanted a smaller setting, then I would also recommend picking the stitches in the end of the strap (should be easy to sow up again after)

    • @Breadman-k6d

      @@peasandriceareverynice because it doesn’t utilize the space very well. Soft things are alway easier to fit in a bag than hard things. Just stuff it in the bottom of your bag as it is, and you’ll have plenty of space.

    • @BadPacifist
      @BadPacifist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Realise this is an old comment, but this is categorically incorrect. The compression bag gets left behind in a military setting because just ramming it into your bergen saves time. The last thing you want to do in your limited admin time is waste it when you could be eating/sleeping/preparing for orders/etc. A compression bag is always better for space utilisation in every other case. This video also shows off the compression bag VERY poorly -- mine goes to between 1/3 to 1/4 of the size of the one shown here. Use your knees and give the straps some welly.

    • @Breadman-k6d
      @Breadman-k6d 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BadPacifist I see your point, but I disagree. From a pure volume perspective, the compression bag i superior - no doubt about that. But I'd argue that shape is more important than total volume when packing a backpack. You will always be able to fit a larger volume of liquid water in a plastic bag than if you fill it with ice cubes - simply because they are cubical. Also remember that taking a sleeping bag out of the compression bag, doesn't mean that the sleeping bag will remain uncompressed when packed. You stuff things on top of it, sometimes with your knees. It might not be as compressed as with a compression bag, but it will leave less residual air. The only time I would use a compression bag, is if I'm attaching the sleeping bag on the outside of the bag.

    You could try putting some extra layer on the bottom of the pack and taping or sewing it in place , to stop the base from being damaged

      Now that the weather's getting nicer I'm certainly looking to do some mods such as this on the pack!

    👍 Nice review Justin. Found this tent in Go Outdoors today for £49.50, after looking around for a lightweight, good value 1 man-er, and your video was the deciding factor! All i needed to know, and more. Cheers 😀

      Thanks for the kind comment and im glad you found the video useful. Id say its the best lightweight 1 man tent for those on a budget. I'm aiming to have a campout this friday night (weather permitting) and will be using the tent. temp will be around 2 degrees so will be interesting to see how its small size holds the warmth. Ill make a video on it

      @@jboutdoors8165 Cool, that will be an interesting video! I've bought it for a cycle trip next month, so will be good to have an idea on how it copes with the cooler night temperatures. Cheers, Jim
