I was researching how to cut in a door frame to an existing wall, not to hang a pre-hung door, but so I can install an accordion door, into a small area which will become a utility closet. I can use and adapt what you show in your video to accomplish. I was also encouraged by the gospel message. May others who hear it, come to faith by it.

To do this right you’ll need to open the wall to the top plates. There needs to be a king stud on each far end and trimmer studs in the inside that the double header boards rest on. You’ll need cripples between the top of the header to the top plate if you want to do this right for strength and longevity. Just look at a diagram of framing a door opening.
I want to do this from one of my bedrooms to the garage but this is what I’m scared of. I dont want to just open up a hole. I want it to be supported enough

Hi Evan, Thanks for the comment. The studs inserted on the left and the right are 8ft top to bottom of the existing wall. They are screwed in diagonally with 3 inch drywall screws to the base footer 2x4 and the header 2x4. We then added a couple short 2x4s inside the wall that went up to the wall header and down to 1.5 inches (the thickness of a 2x4) above the top opening of the doorway. These short pieces were screwed horizontally into the 8ft 2x4s we inserted on the left and right. We then took another short 2x4 the width of the opening of the doorway and screwed it up into the ends of those short 2x4s thus making the header for the doorway, A little hard to explain in word so I hope this make sence.

Nice break for Jesus ..one addition I would like to add us instead of putting a screw through the door casing to ensure it won't sag, take one hinge screw out and replace it with a 3inch construction screw. Holds the door and doesn't have to be filled or be unsightly.

That's what I thought too. But now I'm thinking that header is butted up against existing 2X4 in the wall that the new 2X4s are nailed to. The toe in nails are being nailed to that existing 2X4
@@Hizenbird Maybe so, but he slid in the side 2x4 under the header. Maybe he cut off the original stud and put the header in under it and then replaced the lower portion of the stud. That would make sense.
@@christcrucified6385 Yeah, I'm looking at it again. This is not the way it should be done. He removed studs from the wall. The load use to go down the studs to the base plate but now they are gone. So that load still needs to be carried to the floor/foundation. The only thing carrying the load now are the 2 screws in the stud that was cut off above the door frame (which themselves are just held up by a couple of nails in the top plate) and the 2 in nails on either side of the door. If it were me I would have made the two 2x4s either side of the door way jack studs shortened just above the door height and placed the header piece on top of those. But maybe it's not a load bearing wall.... so...guess it's OK?

Now that I think about it even the wall that I want to put the door in is not load bearing (assuming only two walls of a stand alone single story garage are load bearing). But for a couple extra bucks I will probably do it as though it was load bearing anyway..
@@Hizenbird In a stand alone garage all your perimeter walls are load bearing. I actually erased my comment because I deal with almost all one story Florida homes with no basements. Everywhere else is vastly different and there will be interior load-bearing walls on two-story homes or homes with basements. All your perimeter walls are going to be load bearing on any structure. If you're dealing with an outside wall on a standalone garage it is definitely load bearing
I would turn the power off first, then get two "old job" plastic electrical boxes from Homedepot/Lowes, cut a hole in the drywall and mount the two boxes in the wall on both sides of the new door, cut the wire and run both cut ends into the two boxes, buy a new piece of the same size wire and run it from box to box going over the new door and make your splices in each box, use a solid trim cover plate on each box. If the wire is an always on hot wire and not a switch leg or feed to a ceiling light you could make the two new boxes into a new plug receptacle instead of a splice. Hope this helps

I can answer that because there isn't a larger header, I'd say "no" it's not in a load bearing wall. A load bearing wall door should have a larger reinforced header over any doorway or window.
Hi Chevs, Thanks for the comment. If there is an existing 2x4 stud on both sides of the doorway you are cutting so that you are only removing 1 or 2 studs I think you will be fine. If you have some concern about it you can always install your new studs all the way up to the ceiling header board inside the wall on the right and left of the new doorway you are cutting.
Check if the wall you are cutting into is running parallel to the joists in your floor/attic (they run parallel to the rafter boards) (yes=not load bearing usually) or not.

most newer homes will have insulation on exterior walls. This was an interior wall so there is no insulation. Most of you older historic homes don't have any insulation at all.

Hi Robert, You can always get an oak door threshold or make one from a piece of oak lumber if it need to be wider than the ones they sell at Lowes / Home Depot..

Jesus himself voluntarily went to the cross as the final sacrifice for sin such that if through faith you acknowledge he was God and paid the price for your sin when he went to the cross, repent of your sin, and make Him you Lord and Savior, then the sacrifice for sin is applied to you personally now and forever. This doesn't mean you can then go sin all you want and expect that you are forgiven as in that case you probably weren't legitimately saved to begin with. When you are truly saved the Holy Spirit will enter you and He will guide you away from sin at which point walking it out with Jesus is real easy. Hope you get your door fixed.

Hello! Ed and Alan, seeing your comments I'd like to say that is a very valid question. One I have wondered myself. There is a tremendous amount of evil and suffering all around us, some hidden and some so obvious. It's especially heartbreaking to see injustice, injury, or death happen to children or those that cannot defend themselves. When God flooded the entire earth, He did so with reasons we cannot understand. We can try, but it would be impossible for us finite beings to understand an infinite God and His ways. All I can say for sure is what the bible says... that God saw what people had done and become and it must have been so bad to wipe everyone out, except for Noah and his family and two of every kind of creature. We could ask, "Why would a loving God cause such a thing to happen." As far as the evil and suffering we see today, I can tell you with absolute certainty God is sovereign. Meaning God is in control of everything and nothing is out of His authority. He is also long-suffering/patient. The bible says He wants everyone to come to the saving nowledge of Jesus Christ and that none should perish but all should have eternal life. So when we look at the world around us and see so much suffering, let it be a reminder that God is giving everyone time to decide. He won't force anyone to believe and trust in Him. He gives us that choice. The truth is, one day, whether by death (10 out of 10 people die ya know 🙃) or by Jesus returning, we will all face Him on judgement day. And sin will be dealt with. All sin. Nothing we do on our own can pay that debt. It is only by the work Jesus did on the cross and his blood that was shed are we washed clean and our debt is paid. Jesus's last words on the cross were "it is finished".... meaning the debt has been paid. If we choice to accept that free gift, we will have eternal life. Don't take my word for it, read it for yourself to see if it is true. Check documents and historical writings outside of the bible and see if Jesus really did live, die, and rise from the grave. And that was the best an infinite, all powerful God could come up with? But all of those were acts committed by finite human beings. It is reasonable to expect better from an all powerful, infinite being, don't you think?

I can answer that because there isn't a larger header, I'd say "no" it's not in a load bearing wall. A load bearing wall door should have a larger reinforced header over any doorway or window.

Hi Chevs, Thanks for the comment. If there is an existing 2x4 stud on both sides of the doorway you are cutting so that you are only removing 1 or 2 studs I think you will be fine. If you have some concern about it you can always install your new studs all the way up to the ceiling header board inside the wall on the right and left of the new doorway you are cutting.
Check if the wall you are cutting into is running parallel to the joists in your floor/attic (they run parallel to the rafter boards) (yes=not load bearing usually) or not.

most newer homes will have insulation on exterior walls. This was an interior wall so there is no insulation. Most of you older historic homes don't have any insulation at all.

Years after that upon receiving the power of the Holy Spirit I began praying over the sick and seeing them recover, seeing deaf ears receiving hearing, seeing injured arms and legs being instantly healed, casting demons out of oppressed people in the name of Jesus and seeing with my own eyes their manifestations, seeing demons talking through these oppressed people as they flee a person's body by the power of the name of Jesus. In the old testament sacrifices were made at the temple for the forgiveness of sin. Jesus himself voluntarily went to the cross as the final sacrifice for sin such that if through faith you acknowledge he was God and paid the price for your sin when he went to the cross, repent of your sin, and make Him you Lord and Savior, then the sacrifice for sin is applied to you personally now and forever. This doesn't mean you can then go sin all you want and expect that you are forgiven as in that case you probably weren't legitimately saved to begin with. When you are truly saved the Holy Spirit will enter you and He will guide you away from sin at which point walking it out with Jesus is real easy. Hope you get your door fixed.

Hello! Ed and Alan, seeing your comments I'd like to say that is a very valid question. One I have wondered myself. There is a tremendous amount of evil and suffering all around us, some hidden and some so obvious. It's especially heartbreaking to see injustice, injury, or death happen to children or those that cannot defend themselves.
When God flooded the entire earth, He did so with reasons we cannot understand. We can try, but it would be impossible for us finite beings to understand an infinite God and His ways. All I can say for sure is what the bible says... that God saw what people had done and become and it must have been so bad to wipe everyone out, except for Noah and his family and two of every kind of creature.
We could ask, "Why would a loving God cause such a thing to happen." As far as the evil and suffering we see today, I can tell you with absolute certainty God is sovereign. Meaning God is in control of everything and nothing is out of His authority. He is also long-suffering/patient. The bible says He wants everyone to come to the saving nowledge of Jesus Christ and that none should perish but all should have eternal life. So when we look at the world around us and see so much suffering, let it be a reminder that God is giving everyone time to decide. He won't force anyone to believe and trust in Him. He gives us that choice.
The truth is, one day, whether by death (10 out of 10 people die ya know 🙃) or by Jesus returning, we will all face Him on judgement day. And sin will be dealt with. All sin. Nothing we do on our own can pay that debt. It is only by the work Jesus did on the cross and his blood that was shed are we washed clean and our debt is paid. Jesus's last words on the cross were "it is finished".... meaning the debt has been paid. If we choice to accept that free gift, we will have eternal life.
Don't take my word for it, read it for yourself to see if it is true. Check documents and historical writings outside of the bible and see if Jesus really did live, die, and rise from the grave. But all of those were acts committed by finite human beings. It is reasonable to expect better from an all powerful, infinite being, don't you think?

So God drowned people in a flood because they were exactly as He created and allowed them to be. Ultimately, as controller of everything and authority over all, God is responsible not only for drowning human beings but also for their actions which would cause Him to decide to kill them.
It would be like having the ability to design and create every minute detail of a living creature and then later killing it because you created it with traits you are morally opposed to. And in fact, it isn't "like" that, it is exactly that. You have described a God who kills human beings simply for being exactly as He created them to be.
And it's worse if God has foreknowledge and can see the future. Such a God is a monster.
