Thanks for this great content. Yesterday I removed 3 of my tomato plants. To me it looked like they got affected with some virus and they completely stopped growing. If I knew this earlier I would have tried this on my plants before pulling them off.

How fortunate for me that you posted this today. Tuesday I learned that my tomato plants had been overrun with broad mites. My wife kept telling me, aside from those tomatoes maturing, that no more tomatoes had set. As this was just my 3rd season growing tomatoes I attributed the lost flower buds to the bounty of clusters of large Cherokee Purples still on the vine. Then I thought I should search the internet about lost buds and curling leaves. My 5x magnifier revealed what I saw in the pics I received. Same day I scoured the internet for ways to respond to the threat. Eager to begin my counterattack I ran out and purchased Bon-Neem by Bonide. It has Pyrethrins and extract of Neem Oil. One application, which I hope is effective was costly so I am looking for a less expensive option. Hoping hydrogen peroxide will carry the day, I am wondering when I should begin treatments. I was going to finish the rest of the bottle of Bon-Neem next Tuesday but I am wondering if I can use both sprays at least until the Bon-Neem is gone and then continue with the H2O2. How would you recommend I continue the fight? Thanks
H202 does kill off small mites. It is worth a try. Get your fall garden supplies! Please visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden shop for seeds, seed starting supplies, neem oil, TRG merchandise and more at www.therustedgarden.com
Believe me I am not questioning your expertise. Your site has helped me for years and your knowledge is impeccable. My only question is isn't it bad to spray day time in full sun? wouldn't it be better morning or evening?
Followed your plan. The H2O2 really works well. And Copper Sulfate spray. I have perennial septoria which I have never before got ahead of it. I’ve changed location (up wind) , bags and soil. For me it can go up a plant in a week.. in the last four days I’ve used H2O2 for the first time. 12 tablespoons to a gallon.. At night. then In our heat, all the diseased leaves shriveled and died. Only green growth left. Ah, my companion marigold leaves are not happy. I am.

You can use h202 on other plants. this ratio is what I use for tomatoes. I would test spray 4 ounces to gallon. Hi Gary I’m wondering what to do with all the summer heat in the rain as far as spraying with a hydrogen peroxide and baking soda spray is it OK to do in the evening if it’s going to be over 90° the next day ? It really needs to be done and there seems to be no break in the heat and humidity and rain. Thank you very much for all your informative videos I wish I had listen to them prior to doing my first gardening adventure but I’ve learned a lot and I appreciate all your hard work.
By some gardening miracle no tomato blight or diseases yet {Aug. 5th}, this is an all time 1st 😀. I've not done anything except single stem plants, & cut off the lower branches to about 1.5 ft. from the ground, & mulch. Hope I haven't jinxed myself by saying this lol! However ripped out my old diseased cuc's today though....felt like I was murdering something 😬.
I feel your pain. My cucs have been showing downy mildew and more recently wilt. I've been aggressively pruning off the damaged leaves, but I can't bring myself to rip out the plant while cucs are growing, and hopefully by then replacement seeds will be ready to transplant.
My husband pickling cucumbers had the same problem with powdery mildew it was terrible! I went our there and took about 2 1/2 ' of leaves of the plants that are about 4 1/2 ' tall this heat and all the rain we are getting this year was insane.
@@terryjbrown6953 This is my first year growing anything but one of the things I picked up on early from Gary and others is the importance of air flow. So even with our wet weather at times, I've not seen much powdery mildew except on my sugar snap peas towards the end of the plants' life when they were all quite tall. That's another reason I've been pretty aggressive about pruning, including healthy leaves when they were overlapping as I also planted quite densely.
@@Earthy-Artist 👍 May I ask do you have a Maltese at least the picture looks like it is? If so I have a Maltipoo that's cream and tan colored and it looks just like her except yours looks like it's white.

I am still learning and stopped spraying once the cicadas wrecked them this year. But I am testing stuff. This year I spray NOT organic daconil on them. Hi gary. Your videos are so helpful. My 5 zucchini plants are about a month and a half old. The leaves are beautfiul and the stems are strong. However, i noticed little teeny umber-colored bugs at the stem of one. Squash bugs! So i mixed up 1/2 or 1 tablespoon of H202 with 1 liter of water. The part im nervous about - i sprayed the plant at the base. So some of my little tiny zucchini got sprayed. Is that a big problem?

I've used the lower concentration on cucumbers and zucchini all this summer, sprayed once a week, in the evening, without any problems. Cut off all the bad leaves first.
@@doreenkkurthmeyers2375 The searching I had done online suggested it was effective for powdery mildew but not downy milder. But I will happily give it a try, although I think wilt and just the age of the plants are going to do them in.

I have white spots all over several tomato seedlings due to a cold snap, I believe it's white mold. Some of the bottom leaves have wilted and I lost 20 out of 60. Will this help my remaining tomato seedlings?

I've used the lower concentration on my cucumbers and zucchini without any problems. Just spray one or two leaves really good and look at it over 3 days to see if it harmed it or not. If there was no harm, spray the whole plant. I've done the higher concentration twice this summer and it seemed OK. If you do the higher concentration, I would do it in the evening not the morning.

I live in Nth Qld Australia and have both early blight and leaf spot in my tomato plants that is under control. Also have a dirt like substance on the top side of the leaves that washes off when I spray, if it is not washed off it adheres to the leaf and the fungi appears in it and then the leaf rolls. Any ideas what this substance could be? Thank you in advance.
I ordered some Neem oil from you recently. Much thanks for getting it shipped so quickly! I had the chance yesterday to binge watch some of your videos re use of peroxide and Neem. I wanted to be sure both peroxide and Neem were safe to spray on developing flower buds, open flowers and the fruit on tomatoes, peppers and bush beans. You did mention the tomatoes and I saw some tomato flowers in this video, so peroxide appears safe on tomatoes at least. Does the same hold true for peppers and bush beans with peroxide and for all 3 plants using Neem? I'm a newbie gardener and don't want to make any assumptions. Thanks so much for all you do and share :)
I have not had any issue on flower buds. Always good to do a test spray for leaf damage on new sprays but I Neve notice bud issues. Thanks for the order. Each plant leaf is different so in theory you can use them on any plant. When I do that I go with least concentrated spray and test it. For instance 1 tablespoon of neem per gallon instead of 2. 4 ounces of H202 instead of 8 per gallon. Get your fall garden supplies! I’m totally confused. I’ve watched several of these videos across the years you have made them and the timing of spraying has changed. What is it now in 2022? And how does baking soda factor in to the plan?
So there is no exact timing and it gets based on what rolls into your area, how much rain you get between sprayings, and other factors. Rule of Thumb is every 10-14 days. But it really varies garden to garden. I use to use baking soda more often but hydrogen peroxide actually became a game changer. It kills the tomato fungus. Baking soda prevents it from spreading or slows spreading. So you will see my routine vary as I discover better ways to spray. I find I can spray H202 when I notice an issue and it works. I use baking soda much less now. I had begun spraying my tomatoes and thought I had a handle on things, but was pulled away for 8 days last week and came home to an overrun of leaf spot fungus on a lot of them, PLUS all of my green beans seem to have something on them (brown spots) that I haven't seen before also. Japanese Beetles has been our main issue with them and I have sprayed with neem oil before we went away. The cabbage is overrun with worms, while our onions are collapsing now. We have had heat in the 90's without steady rain in Ohio but are on about the same latitude as you are so think we are similar. Problem is that now we are having heavy humidity and rain, rain, rain threats for 3 days! I'm beside myself cleaning up the damage from our time away - and no sun for the H2O2 treatment.! (Collapsing tomato plant that grew to a massive size while I was gone! ) My daughter watered for us, but had no idea that anything bad was going on or how to take care of it! You should do a video on how to recover from neglected garden and what to do with a barrage of issues all at once - plus how to find a "garden-sitter" for times like this.(Love your channel, you are my go to for my garden this year!)
I have had some success with them. I havent full worked on the ratio for PM on squash and zukes. I am still testing it. Get your fall garden supplies! Please visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden shop for seeds, seed starting supplies, neem oil, TRG merchandise and more at www.therustedgarden.com
There shouldn't be any dish soap in the hydrogen peroxided. Day 3 and my tomatoes look fine with just h202 8 ounces in a gallon. Dish soap is strong, especially if it is detergent. That could have been an issue. Sorry it happened' Get your fall garden supplies! Great timing! I've been dealing with leaf spot here in NY. It spread rapidly through my dozen tomato plants, both young and full grown. I've tried a baking soda mix and copper fungicide to no avail. This will be my next try. If I just sprayed the baking soda mix today, how long should I wait until I try the H2O2? Do I need to wait more than 24hrs?
Baking soda can sit there a bit. I might just hose them down, let them dry and try the h202. If not wait for a rain. I guess I would base it on if they spray you used, looks like it halted everything. Get your fall garden supplies! Gary can this also be used on zucchini or other squash plants. I don’t recall if you said this in the past. I’m finding it difficult to get in my garden and do anything. Mosquitoes are horrific. I did have spray that helped only a little bit. Looking for non toxic bug spray for myself.

I use a sprayer that attaches to standard bottles. ... because I don't need such massive amounts of spray. I (re)use one of the easily found 1.5 liter water bottles. Which would equate to about 3 ounces of H2O2 for that bottle. -3liter ~ 1gallon. I just go right down the middle on potency concentration.
I covered the general routine in the video. I would stick with that. Get your fall garden supplies! Please visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden shop for seeds, seed starting supplies, neem oil, TRG merchandise and more at www.therustedgarden.com

Good, cause my cukes got a bad case of mosaic fungus, at least that's what I think it was. Happened while I was in vacation.
In my sprayer tank, I add a few drops of food coloring to the water just to be able to see the 1, or 2 gallon mark on the tank. It doesn't harm or color the plants at all.

I am.
Glad it is working!

Gary, you are awesome. I've been using HP all summer on tomatoes, and they look great thanks to you. Question: can one use HP on cucurbits?
@@terryjbrown6953 Yes, very crazy weather!

I would love to know your sprays and routines for fruit trees. It's been a challenging year for them with bugs and disease in my area. 6b Ont Canada.
I am still learning and stopped spraying once the cicadas wrecked them this year. But I am testing stuff. This year I spray NOT organic daconil on them. And I have to say, the spring spray, prevented issues better than dormant oils and copper sprays from last year. However, I am still testing out a plant. Maybe not organic before fruiting, organic with fruit on them.

Gary I have a little fungus on the edge of my raised bed if I spray that will it kill the fungus?
They should be fine. Insect dust can help too.

Gary my question would be if you have to do this, then how long to wait before spraying the plants with the asprin mixture?
Do you recommend this spray, or your aspirin baking soda combo for a spray for leaf spot?
h202 for establishing disease. I think that works best. Aspirin is to help prevent it from getting hold.

Can you do this method on watermelon, squash, cherry trees, rose bush and lilly's the leaves are yellowing and getting spots on them and I don't like to put anything on them that's not organic!
In theory yes. You should test spray. Maybe start with 4 ounces per gallon and see how that goes.

Do you use this on other plants, such as cucumbers suffering from wilt or downy mildew?
Tablespoon of baking soda per gallon stops all my downy mildew!
I have but I havent really perfected the ratio. And am still experimenting

@@doreenkkurthmeyers2375 Thanks for that. Do you spray or feed the baking soda water into the soil?
I have white spots all over several tomato seedlings due to a cold snap, I believe it's white mold. Some of the bottom leaves have wilted and I lost 20 out of 60. Will this help my remaining tomato seedlings?
It would if it is fungal. Warmth and sun can help too. I would make the mix a bit lower with hydrogen for seedlings.

Another very informative video. Thanks Gary.
I’m having that trouble with my Cucumber leaves.
Would you recommend trying the same ratio to spray?
I've used the lower concentration on my cucumbers and zucchini without any problems. Just spray one or two leaves really good and look at it over 3 days to see if it harmed it or not. If there was no harm, spray the whole plant. I've done the higher concentration twice this summer and it seemed OK. If you do the higher concentration, I would do it in the evening not the morning.
Wes below gave good advice. Always test spray. In theory h202 could work on all plants. I might go with 4 ounces in a gallon to start and increase.

Can I spray this solution (1-2 tbsp of H202 per 1 liter of water) to my strawberry planta and orchids and other veggies?
I know you dont want to use regular peroxide in a nebulizer because of the toxins in it. Must use Food Grade Peroxide for that. Would still be sure to rinse thoroughly before eating.
As you should any produce....if it's from the pharmacy it may say USP grade....that is better than food grade, more pure.
Always wise to rinse.
will this work on anthracnose?
It does. Any fungal type, leaf spreading disease. It won't work on viral issues.

I did this originally one time for outbreak butternut squash but it didn't work so after heavy rain did baking soda with murphys oil soap and water one time did not work either. Now that I know the application directions can I safely go back to hydrogen peroxide after rain?

Hi Gary! Could you please help advise-
All of our pepper plants wilted all of a sudden. Seems not in drought and NO bugs I could see them. Please help!!
Hmmm. Maybe something at the root level but I don't know what. I would just water and see what they do. Very odd.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Thank you for the reply. I started dusting my plants with seven dust as soon as I saw the damage starting. The little buggers are persistant. It does work. I just have to keep after them until the season ends.
Can I use this on other vegetable?
You can in theory but test spray

Do I need to spray at night or anytime ok? I wonder if I put the pepermint oil in wirh the h202 if it would be ok?
Morning or evening is best. I did spray in full sun at noon in the video. But I had to get it done and had no other time.

Gary, which ratio do you use on zuchinni and winter squashes for mildew? I think I watched a video where you mentioned it, but I can't find it. Thank you.
I don't recall but I would start with 4 ounces per gallon and work up. Always test spray. I found it helps but I still need to go higher on the ratio I think for zukes and winter squash.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN thank you, Gary. I will test it.
I got a bottle of 50% h2o2. Would you have a calculation to mix up a 16oz bottle of 3% solution?
just under 1 oz of your 50% h2o2 to 15 oz water.
Will ghe peroxide kill gnats and bugs?
I primarily use for fungi. But it should damage small insects. I just havent really tried it for that.
Thanks. This is how you can support my creation of videos.

Nope. Mostly for diseases.

I would keep it cool in the house.

Hello what's the brand name of your sprayer ..please let me know... I have a sprayer but the trigger doesn't work properly. It continues to spray no stop .
Thats from a local hardware store. Just called Do It Yourself brand. Generic
I only have worm castings. Can I spray worm tea after the hydrogen peroxide and then water ? Still not sure when to remove the ugly dead leaves.
He said 24hrs....trim the dead leaves before or after, your choice.
I trim before....just don't go touching unaffected areas, so you don't spread it.
@@john-smith. thank you so so much.
I leave the leaves. Casting tea doesnt have enough N for a quick plant response. Maybe put casting on the soil and water them in well.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN thanks for the added info! But right now I NEED HELP!
Ones this spray work for powdery Mildew?
I have had some success with them. I havent full worked on the ratio for PM on squash and zukes. I am still testing it.

? I used this and the dish soap method on my tomato and pepper plants and it killed them what did I do wrong ?
There shouldn't be any dish soap in the hydrogen peroxided. Day 3 and my tomatoes look fine with just h202 8 ounces in a gallon. Dish soap is strong, especially if it is detergent. That could have been an issue. Sorry it happened'

Gary can this also be used on zucchini or other squash plants. I don’t recall if you said this in the past. I’m finding it difficult to get in my garden and do anything. Mosquitoes are horrific. I did have spray that helped only a little bit. Looking for non toxic bug spray for myself.
In theory yes. I would test spray thought as the ratio I give you is for tomato plants. Please visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden shop for seeds, seed starting supplies, neem oil, TRG merchandise and more at www.therustedgarden.com

@@Mars21681 thanks, this helps, I have a similar situation with the bottle size needed.
Great video! How often should this be done? TFS
I covered the general routine in the video. I would stick with that.
