In the Army, I always found that it was helpful to warm the boot as well as melting the sealer. The warmer materials drew the sealer into the seams and stitching much more readily.
Used it since the 80s…. I’ll actually warm my clean boots in the oven at the lowest setting and apply a few coats and it buff out with a horsehair brush while warm
The nature of leather is it is an absorbent material with pores, that is how it can absorb treatment and why it absorbs water. Ive used huberds shoe grease, obenauf heavy duty lp milk oil etc. You will reduce water absorbtion, but the leather will never be physically waterproof. The obenauf is what i come back to time after time.
Hey Buckin', thanks for showing how to properly waterproof your boots! 😉I enjoy doing the leather uppers on my 16'' LL Bean Boots annually! It definitely makes a world of difference! 👍 And yes, it is that time of year again! All the best from Sophia, N.C. USA 🙏
Hi buckin, love your videos brother! I’m from Scotland and we don’t get many boots like nicks or vibergs over here. Only a smaller selection of redwings. Anyhow. Thought I’d comment to say your boot videos are always golden, you should absolutely make more!!! Your positive energy and passion is contagious, it really is and I always look forward to your uploads, I really do. Thank you.
Just got a pair of vintage logger boots ! What a difference compared to my modern boot. Thanks for the ritual tips Buckin’ Friends grab a pair of old boots and an old axe you will never look back
I have a big jar of a similar leather dressing/conditioner that I use on my leather bags and seat for the Harley. I use a heat gun to warm up my boots and then heat the container as you did. I clean and treat my boots once a month summer or winter. Helps to keep the sun from drying out the leather as well. Happy feet = happy day 😊
in the winter I put my leather cork boots on the wood stove and when they're nice and warm I melt pure beeswax on them with the help of a heat gun. always wanted my dads cork boots that he got from Pierre Paris in Burnaby/Vancouver in the 1940's sadly he threw them away. he was logging in the interior never on the island. they even fit me.
Heeeyyy Buckin! Good to see another video today! You've been all over 'em the past couple of days. I am working my boots over now...I need to order some Woodman's Ritual protectant and add it to the arsenal. Taking care of your boots will take good care of you!! Love Ya, Brother! Catch you later.
Huberds Shoe Grease is my favorite, ya gotta try it. I work in an underground mine but it has high praise from timber fellers, that's why I gave it a try
I have the exact same style boot I use outdoors riding a motorcycle working it's just under a different name I have had them resold once they're still a great boot Love them
Right on!! Never thought ta use a lighter to put it into liquid form!!! GREAT IDEA!!! I will definately be doing that with the DGP leather ritual I snagged at Bunyon!! Love that stuff!! I'm on my 2nd can!! Woot woot!!! Love to you all!!! From the Barths!!!
The stuff I use on my boots is a leather oil it's supposed to protect preserve waterproof restore it's already a liquid so I don't have to worry about making it a liquid but it's worked great for anytime that I've used it on any boots that I've gotten over the years and it's made in the state I live in it's called obenauf's if like to research it
I use light gortex boots in the weather at the airport. But all my other boots get the conditioner. I still prefer old school leather boots over the latest and greatest types anyway.
We've used a similar product for years, SnoSeal. We put it on heavy and then place the boots near the wood stove and the Snoseal completely melts into the leather. Works pretty good for a while BUT it always wears off and boots will NOT be waterproof for long. If you want a truly waterproof leather boot it has to have a gortex liner.
Broke my leg back in April but have been back to work since September and had a pair of timberland steel toe boots that finally wore out and got a pair of dans post cowboy steel toes because its easier on my leg to get them on and off.
@@BuckinBillyRaySmithI’m good thanks man been looking after my friends dog the past couple months can’t get much cuttin done at the moment if I go out of sight he howls like a wolf lol can’t help but spoil the dog I give him the bite goin in my mouth and he sleeps in the bedroom the combination of flatulence would wake ya up in the morning hehe been frosty here the past few days ✌️❤️🌲🪵🪓🐝
Been using bear fat to put on my work boots it's been amazing I get about 5 shifts in snow rain before I have to do them with it agine little bit of boot love makes the work boots last along time
I love waterproofing my boots the way I love sharpening a knife or cleaning a “pew pew”. I find it relaxing. And worth it. Oh, I call those engineer boots. I have cowboy boots as well but I don’t waterproof those.
Roulette boots are made in St-Tite, Quebec. North of Trois Riviere. They've been making boots for three generations. I have owned a few pairs over the years. They are world class. I used cowboy riding boots with spurred ledge and rawhide counters. Being horseback all day in all kinds of weather and conditions, they are very durable and comfortable. But like a chainsaw, they need to be looked after.
I was just wondering may I purchase the wood bullet head?. Separately I need to brush up on my halfting skills. And nobody is going to split wood for me but that's okay. Let me know if this is possible thank you your friend Mark Molina Flint Michigan
My grandfather is a Ⅱ generation logger And his method to waterproofing boots Is the same exact method (Ritual)you use Hand to god . use your hands ! If you would like to do a final polish or buff with a brush that is fine . But twice a year You should care for your leather work Boots work wear . Thank you for sharing
The paralyzed girl had to turn this off at 3:38. I use Huberd's grease (no reason, they sent me a big can for free). I think the grease is better on the bottoms & oil for the tops.
Have you tried using a heat gun and a wax seal for a toilet? Just melt the wax onto/into the outside of the boot. Guaranteed to be 100% water proof the first time.
Great video and tip, by the way where do you get your handles from, I'm in Winnipeg and have very few options locally and what is available are more clubs then handles. Thansk
No. You have to use bear grease applied at a campfire during a full moon. You set down your beer and put your caulks on a rock near the fire. Rotate the boots a few times to get them warm, then slather on the bear grease.
Cold boot leather won't absorb as good as a warmed up one, I heat my boot up with a hairdryer and then use your sealer, you'll find out it lasts a yr +
I make my own wool grease, wax bees and paraffin, jojoba oil, olive oil, linseed oil, all got there place in various mixes even gasoline and silicone has its place go have fun
A 94 YEAR OLD CONSTRUCTION CUSTOMER TURNED ME ONTO RENDERED BEAR FAT, THAT OIL WILL WATERPROOF YOUR SOCKS AND YOUR BOOTS!:) NEVER FOUND ANYTHING THAT COMES EVEN CLOSE. IF YOU STAY OUT OF THE MUD, YOU ONLY NEED TO DO IT ONCE A YEAR. APPLY WARM AND LIQUID.

I just buy waterproof boots. Except that it's always false advertising. Spent a long afternoon picking berries in the rain wearing "waterproof boots". Walked back to the jeep squishing and squashing with soaked feet. The berries were okay.

A hot hair dryer works great to heat boot leathers. Add melted way and after the 3rd or 4th time doing it you don't get wet feet.
Snow seal and a heat gun has worked fabulously for me the last 30 years !

I do the same to a 40 year old pair of RedWings.....just slather the wax on thick and use a hairdryer to melt it in....simple and low mess.....
I’m going to have to try that stuff it looks like it works well ! Hopefully this postal strike don’t mess up people’s shipping have a good day
I hope so too!
DGP leather treatment is so good just completed three boots and two pairs of shoes for my granddaughter and my bride. ♥️👍
