    Omg, i was about to f$%k my s!#t up, first nothing i read or went over mentioned the fact that the bolt i was pressing on was holding the thing, and i do not have the tool to reinstall the balancer... or i don't for maybe 24 hours depending on Amazon, thanks to you and the video i watched before, damn i feel stupid, I'm glad i put this project off for a week, now time to get dirty

    Is there a torque spec.for the bolt and should I also replace seal? But I also the best video I 've watched. Thanks

      Spec is 95-122nm which is 70-90ft lbs. I run mine at 85ft lbs.

    What is the name of that ring you put in the deep hole in the harmonic balancer?

    Is it possible to push the key stock out?

    • @DMoneyGarage
      @DMoneyGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. You can replace the keyway. I usually use a small punch and start tapping it between the key and crank to work it out, then just tap the new one in.

    I installed a new timing chain cover, new crank seal, and a new harmonic balancer. Leaking between the balancer and seal, not between the seal and cover, but the middle. Any idea why?

  • @BeastlyGarage
    @BeastlyGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The torque spec in your description is way low. I think you put the specs for the pulley that attaches to the balancer.

    • @DMoneyGarage
      @DMoneyGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I always use shopkey and they are at the 50ft/lbs. I checked alldata and identifix and they show 110-130. 2 outnumbers 1 so I changed the description. Thanks! I guess I'm gonna need to use alldata instead🤷‍♂️

    What did you use to keep the pulley from moving when you were tightening the bolt at the end

    • @DMoneyGarage
      @DMoneyGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's gonna sound weird but I put an automatic flexplate on it. Then I put a prybar in one of the openings and rotated the crank until it was against a solid part of the block and had a buddy hold it while I torqued the bolt(which is why I didn't do it in the video. No one was available to help at the time). Once it was torqued I took the flexplate off and put the flywheel and clutch on it.

    I just installed a bew balancer on a 1977 Ranchero 500 with a 302. The balancer engaged the keyway and I was able to push it in by hand. Whsts wrong? How do I fix this?

    • @DMoneyGarage
      @DMoneyGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some vehicles do have balancers that can slip on. Haven’t seen a sbf that way but as long as it wasn’t sloppy I’d say it’s probably ok. The new balancer inside diameter that goes on the crank may have been machined a little bigger than spec. More than likely that’s what happened.

    RTV in the keyway so it doesn’t leak oil!!!!

    Working on a big block I replaced my Harmonic balancer with a Summit Racing® Bracket Racer SFI, and when installing it when it seemed to be at the end, and then the tool backed it self out. Everything I have looked at, this does not happen. They Show it getting to the point were you can not turn it any further and you know your done. Any ideas, thank you for any help.

    • @DMoneyGarage
      @DMoneyGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure the threaded part of the tool is fully seated in the crank. Then put the balancer on and the bearing and nut. Make sure you hold the the shaft while turning the nut. If you notice the balancer is rotating also you may have to hold the crank by the flywheel to keep the engine from rotating. Its rare but the balancer may be super tight and rotating the crank clockwise which in turn is rotating the the tool out of the snout. Hope this makes sense.

    Why not just use the crank bolt with the thick washer?

    • @DMoneyGarage
      @DMoneyGarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The crank bolt of its even long enough to reach threads won’t have enough threads to pull the balancer on without the chance of pulling the threads out of the crank. I’ve seen that happen many of times

    • @MichaelJeffers75
      @MichaelJeffers75 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DMoneyGarage dang, wish I saw this video yesterday, lol. I was very gentle with the rubber mallet on 3 sides while pushing by hand on the 4th side till I got enough threads for the bolt to assist in the process. I hope I didn't cause any damage. FWIW, I was genuinely gentle with my taps, but since I forgot to put any silicone in the key way, I think I have to pull it back off to do that anyways, so at least I'll be more informed on the 2nd install. Do you know if my new seal will still be good? Crank only rotated in it roughly twice.

    Why are people putting a screwdriver on the teeth where the starter normally is holding. The teeth in position a not moving. It seems stupid to me but I need to ask

    • @DMoneyGarage
      @DMoneyGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They use a screwdriver to hold the crankshaft from rotating. The torque spec for balancer bolt is enough to spin the motor so you have to hold the motor from rotating to achieve proper torque. I hope that answers your question.

    • @billcoley8520
      @billcoley8520 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DMoney Garage can’t a person use a chain wrench and hold it with the harmonic balancer I hope you know what I’m talking about.

    • @DMoneyGarage
      @DMoneyGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The part that is pressed onto the crank and the weight on the outside are separated by a layer of rubber so holding the outside and tightening the bolt could cause damage to the balancer. Honesty ive had no problems with using an air impact and hitting the bolt a couple times and have had no problems. I would only use that in a time pinch or emergency to get something up and going.

      Great video.
      I recently bought a 95 F-150.
      I noticed the rubber is coming out of the harmonic balancer. Is this an emergency fix.
