One important thing to mention for Insta360 One X: - exporting using the phone: you get 'only' 4K video (due to app restriction) - exporting using your PC: you get 5.7K video Post-processing (i.e. hyperlapse) is only possible from the phone app, meaning that you are limited to 4K when you want post-processing. Edit: the PC app is now also able to do editing. They just released the 1.0 version a few weeks back.

because both are action cameras.. thats why. the fusion has slightly better quality (only if you pixel peep).. but for 200 dollars more, its not worth it... its bigger, and the gopro software on computer/phone is garbage.

A 360 camera serves a different purpose than a single lenses one and most likely one would already have an regular camera already. After much research, I did order the One X. The footage will compliment the regular shots from my regular GoPros and YiCams.

Watching the insta, it sometimes feels like you have a cataract in your eye. The lens flares and other visual artifacts can be very distracting. That’s the prob with lenses that face every direction. If the suns out you have to deal with lens flares somehow.
I already have had the GoPro Black 7 and just got the Insta360 One X2 and your video here was extremely helpful. Now, I am still attempting to learn video editing and have not had a chance to get out to use the Insta360 but this video gave me the confidence that once I learn more about both, I have pretty good quality equipment for moto vlogging (motorcycle). I have the Insta360 One, and I'm very impressed with it, and it does most of the things you demo'd with the new X model. But the one thing that holds me is the editing process, even using the iPhone app, my work flow comes to a grinding halt when I starting editing the video. It's hard for me to get creative in the editing process, so I usually go for a simple edit, when I had something better planned. Great side by side comparison, and insights into how both camera's fit your creative workflow.
Really great review and I have the same conclusions: use both. Only thing I still not like on the insta is the risk of scratching the lenses (something I did with my first insta360).
@1:50 the footage looks very crisp and clear, a few seconds later when you start jogging, although the stability is fine, the quality looks horrendous and there Is artifacts and grain/blur all over. I thought my video dropped to 480p for a moment. the One x seems much higher quality in motion shots, but the rest of the time seems much lower quality. Is that just TH-cam compression or the bitrate settings were too low or is the Gopro really that bad? Especially in moving shots with the trees the Gopro shots look terrible and super grainy, is it like that before you upload to TH-cam?
I think if I could afford both of them I'd get them both but I think the Hero7 wins it for me. Although, I really love the creativity side of the One X. One day!
Got my 360 one X after watching Philip blooms rather casual review of it.The action cam potential is huge! So many interesting angles you can explore. Very happy with mine. (Also have a Gopro5black for 4K fixed angle stuff..

Agreed. The footage isn't the best because of the lenses, however, its a great tool to tell a story. I end up using it all the time when I'm doing something like climbing where I can't focus all my attention on the shot.
Its sad to see - Insta360 and Osmo Pocket both did not give us a 1 inch sensor. Until then, I guess I would just stick with my GoPros, as they are so versatile. I will wait for Sony Rx0 v2
The thing with 1 inch sensors is that the processors that are required to have them record at 4k produce too much heat. Sony can't even keep their RX100 line cool for long, and they also have the RX0 that can only do 4k externally. I imagine that's very likely due to heat. For 360 cameras, that would require a processor that can handle two 1 inch sensors. For both, OIS for a 1 inch sensor would require bigger housings, or external gimbals like the Osmo Pocket, which would make either bigger or more fragile. There's also battery life, and the RX0 has pretty bad battery life. All that said, they could just make them 1080p cameras. You lose the ability to have 1080p cropped shots then though.
Apples and oranges, isn't it? Really should have compared it with the GoPro Fusion instead which One X wins hands down. The one to go for is... BOTH! Best in class in both action cam and 360 genres. Great channel and commentary regardless

I have to disagree on one thing.. you can get the footage from the Insta and upload directly to Premiere without even stitching anything in Instastudio.. in fact if you install the studio you get the plug in for premiere.. of course you are not gonna get the cool features like on the phone but you are also not gonna get those in GOPRO.. plust as of today you can shoot HDR video with today's firmware release

Jeven, I agree with all you said. Both are great and good in different areas. One more check for the Insta360 is portability. Its shape makes it easy to put in your pocket and have on hand at all times. Also, using the 360 on a pole attached to your backpack. Catches everything.
Really nice comparison but I think you forgot some important points like: battery duration (heard that the 360 is really thirsty like 30 min max) and of course price (the 360 is almost double the price)
I have both and the most complaint of Insta360 One X is the video file transfer...It takes much time to convert the file to regular mp4 files...and i can just directly share the videos from gopro 7. (No need any extra work)
Does the insta 360 have looping like the gopro has? As in record 5 minutes and keeps recording new footage and deletes old footage. So record for hours but only have the last 5 minutes on the memory card?
I run ultra marathons and I’ve been using a GoPro 6 and an Evo GP pro gimbal to get smooth shots while running. The problem is I need less in my pack and it needs to be easier to change the batteries. I also need a quick fix for audio if I were to change between multiple cameras. I think the Insta360 would be a great addition but what kind of audio would you recommend? I was thinking about a lav mic but I’m worried about moisture. I’m from the south, we sweat a lot. It has to be easy and fast.
Maybe you told it in the video, but my question is, what is the highest resolution with Insta360 when I use stabilization mode. I guess that it is 5.7k divided by 2, and minus something, up to the shaking.
360 stabilization works in a different way than in other cameras. Traditional action cams zoom in a little bit, cropping the edges of the image to keep the footage stable. In 360 cameras, as they record the entire 360 space, they don't use this method. They don't need extra pixels (or any cropping) to keep the footage stable. It's a kind of content-aware stabilization. In Insta360 cameras they call it Flowstate Stabilization. Every time you shoot in 5.7K, you get a 5760x2880 size video after stitching and stabilization, and then you can zoom in manually to reframe the scenes. (By the way, you can check out some travel videos shot with this technique on my channel, if you are interested :) )
Hi Jeven, Can you run a test with audio and the Insta360 One X? Something I experienced it as a vlogging camera is that the audio fell out of sync. I believe it is an app issue and not a hardware issue. Maybe you can check it out yourself. Here’s what i did: I recorded a 15 min interview, then using my ipad pro i applied ViewFinder in the Insta360 One X app's FreeCapture approx 10 times throughout the majority of the clip. I optimized stitching and had FlowState Stabilization selected from within the app. I exported as "FixFrame" to create a 1920x1080 (16:9) video. Upon playback at approx 6-7 mins into the video the audio slips and by the end of the video the words are not in sync my mouth or the person I was interviewing. I've been using the most up-to-date firmware and app version. Working with Insta360 tech support, last week they confirmed the 5.7k fixframe video does have the audio problem I showed them, but they say it's fine for 360 video. "Our product team has noticed this, we are working on it, will optimize it as soon as possible."
Great video thank you - I bought the GoPro Hero 7 black but had to send it back because it was constantly freezing. You have take out the battery to unfreeze that’s not easy as you have to take out of the housing to do that. That’s a shame because the quality of the images on the GoPro are really good. I personally think that the GoPro is too small for all the features it has. I like the look of the insta 360 easier to hold and control does it ever freeze .

Hey Jeven, I just got the GoPro Hero 7 and it is just terrible inside, LOTS of grainy footage, even with lots of artificial light added. It's fine outdoors. I know its an outdoor camera but I use it sometimes on indoor shoots for creative shots. My GoPro Hero 4 shot better looking footage. Are you having any grain issues shooting indoors with light? If I could I would like have both. As an average consumer, having a fix and forget action cam is a better choice for me cos of time constraint. Having a Hero7 needs a more focused setup but lose a lot of surroundings, you have to pan it physically. Coming from Hero 3+ n 6, the possibilities that insta360 presents gives me THAT option of producing content right of my phone.😎👉
Hey Jeven, thanks for the great comparison. One thing I think that is missing in your comparison is that you cannot use ND filters on the One X. So what is your take on the 180 degree shutter rule and 360 cameras?
Comparing the Hero 7 in 4k versus a scaled in 5.7k image from the Insta isn't exactly apple to apples. You could have compared footage from each matching resolution and scaling and that may have given us a better idea of a true image quality comparison. You. can also export higher res. footage from the Insta if you use a Mac or PC rather than the phone app. I own both and a 1080 sample from the Gopro vs a scaled into 1080 sample from the Insta is pretty comparable. The other thing to remember is that Gopro makes a 360 camera (Fusion) and the Insta isn't really an action camera. So this is kind of an odd comparison to begin with (I know a lot of people are comparing the two on TH-cam but really?). The two serve very different purposes. Check out a comparison of the Fusion vs the Insta and you'll find they are quite comparable. Just my two cents, but I appreciate your video and the time it takes to do this stuff!
Nice review but I wouldn't climb with your belayer. You fall and your rope runs against the edge of the belay rock. Slice-ville. How hard is it to put a couple of slings and some 'biners around it!! Static pull vs running along an edge.
Great comparison Jeven! I own a hero 7 black. I like the part that in a insta360 you can do continuous movement ie panning even the insta 360 one x is sitting still. But the video quality in a insta 360 one x is inferior than a hero 7 black. I guess i will pass and wait for the next insta360 one x. 😁
Jessie Nacar the go pro is not good enough for pro video , the insta is more than enough for TH-cam which is what most people use it for, so the quality is not that the issue here
There's certainly a noticeable difference, even on TH-cam. However, the insta360 also is much smoother if the camera is moving around a lot. You'll also probably be waiting quite a while, as the insta360 OneX hasn't been out long and the technology behind it isn't getting better that quickly.
360 Cam with 7 mega pixel ultimately becomes 3.5 mega pixel showing 180 degree angel. If you are playing back your clips in 4K TV avoid insta360. Such low res on a 4K display will look wayy too pixelated. Insta360 will reach go pro 7's picture when they will have 24 megapixel sensor which isnt happening anytime soon.
That’s my biggest issue I love the camera but with my go Pro the quality was so good that I could actually make awesome pictures with it and get them printed out but with the Insta it’s a blurry mess
Yep like Drones, they all have some unique features. I just got the 360 and have had the Hero 7 a year now. Just get both, then the limit is your creativity. The Hero 8 is now out and GoPro have their 360 flavor, so I guess these days it should be the 360s compared to each other, but I do realize this vlog is over 11 months old as I comment
if I have no clue about editing, would this 360 videocamera be useful to me, since I really like the shootings u show? Does it record 1080 in 60fps? would be interesting a comparative on that resolution in low light
Better camera is Insta 360. Go pro 7 is qulity of video. 2nd. Easy to manage winner is insta 360. I if you want quality video go for Go Pro 7. If you want more adventure easy to manage after recording it's sure insta 360. (I think this video promote by GO PRO)

Hi Jeven, Great video! Just what I've been looking for. I came to the same conclusion and will be buying both. Got my 1x on the way and GP7 black will be purchased sometime this week. For battery life, how does each one perform? Am thinking to add a thin external battery pack rather then having to carry so many spares. As for audio, got myself a Zoom H1n with a lavalier and will synch in post. Would love to hear what you recommend or use for extended battery and audio setup.

Jeven, which camera do you use for the normal footage? It's the GoPro right? it feels like the colours are nicer on the GoPro, but think it was also sunnier than when you took the insta360. I've watched so many videos now and still not sure if I should buy the hero7 black or insta360. Although that's not the base case, but which camera actually shoots better photos? Only downside I currently see with the insta360 is that I have an android phone, and I read everywhere that their app doesn't work well.

Regarding editing One X video- if you can't afford Adobe Premier- buy Cyberlink Power Director. Almost as good and far cheaper.

I know its an outdoor camera but I use it sometimes on indoor shoots for creative shots. My GoPro Hero 4 shot better looking footage. Are you having any grain issues shooting indoors with light? If I could I would like have both. As an average consumer, having a fix and forget action cam is a better choice for me cos of time constraint. Having a Hero7 needs a more focused setup but lose a lot of surroundings, you have to pan it physically.
Coming from Hero 3+ n 6, the possibilities that insta360 presents gives me THAT option of producing content right of my phone.😎👉

Comparing the Hero 7 in 4k versus a scaled in 5.7k image from the Insta isn't exactly apple to apples. You could have compared footage from each matching resolution and scaling and that may have given us a better idea of a true image quality comparison. You. can also export higher res. footage from the Insta if you use a Mac or PC rather than the phone app. I own both and a 1080 sample from the Gopro vs a scaled into 1080 sample from the Insta is pretty comparable. The other thing to remember is that Gopro makes a 360 camera (Fusion) and the Insta isn't really an action camera. So this is kind of an odd comparison to begin with (I know a lot of people are comparing the two on TH-cam but really?). The two serve very different purposes. Check out a comparison of the Fusion vs the Insta and you'll find they are quite comparable. Just my two cents, but I appreciate your video and the time it takes to do this stuff!
Nice review but I wouldn't climb with your belayer. You fall and your rope runs against the edge of the belay rock. Slice-ville. How hard is it to put a couple of slings and some 'biners around it!! Static pull vs running along an edge.
Man, GoPro is good but shooting 3K at 100fps is dope in OneX.
And I guess there's no comparison with single lens camera. What about Fusion?

Great comparison Jeven! I own a hero 7 black. I like the part that in a insta360 you can do continuous movement ie panning even the insta 360 one x is sitting still. But the video quality in a insta 360 one x is inferior than a hero 7 black. I guess i will pass and wait for the next insta360 one x. 😁
Jessie Nacar the go pro is not good enough for pro video , the insta is more than enough for TH-cam which is what most people use it for, so the quality is not that the issue here

There's certainly a noticeable difference, even on TH-cam. However, the insta360 also is much smoother if the camera is moving around a lot. You'll also probably be waiting quite a while, as the insta360 OneX hasn't been out long and the technology behind it isn't getting better that quickly.

Do you use the venture case on the Insta360? Also it's a bit of a bummer that you did not discuss the camera's in low light situations. :(
360 Cam with 7 mega pixel ultimately becomes 3.5 mega pixel showing 180 degree angel. If you are playing back your clips in 4K TV avoid insta360. Such low res on a 4K display will look wayy too pixelated. Insta360 will reach go pro 7's picture when they will have 24 megapixel sensor which isnt happening anytime soon.
That’s my biggest issue I love the camera but with my go Pro the quality was so good that I could actually make awesome pictures with it and get them printed out but with the Insta it’s a blurry mess
Yep like Drones, they all have some unique features. I just got the 360 and have had the Hero 7 a year now. Just get both, then the limit is your creativity. The Hero 8 is now out and GoPro have their 360 flavor, so I guess these days it should be the 360s compared to each other, but I do realize this vlog is over 11 months old as I comment

Better camera is Insta 360. Go pro 7 is qulity of video.
2nd. Easy to manage winner is insta 360.
I if you want quality video go for Go Pro 7. If you want more adventure easy to manage after recording it's sure insta 360. (I think this video promote by GO PRO)

Great video! Just what I've been looking for. I came to the same conclusion and will be buying both. Got my 1x on the way and GP7 black will be purchased sometime this week.
For battery life, how does each one perform? Am thinking to add a thin external battery pack rather then having to carry so many spares.
As for audio, got myself a Zoom H1n with a lavalier and will synch in post.
Would love to hear what you recommend or use for extended battery and audio setup.

Man I was just gonna say the apples and oranges thing. I'm like... a 360 camera vs. a regular camera.... you can't compare the two.
and is the fusion better than one x? what's the best 360 camera of a somewhat reasonable size?
@1:50 the footage looks very crisp and clear, a few seconds later when you start jogging, although the stability is fine, the quality looks horrendous and there Is artifacts and grain/blur all over. I thought my video dropped to 480p for a moment. the One x seems much higher quality in motion shots, but the rest of the time seems much lower quality. Is that just TH-cam compression or the bitrate settings were too low or is the Gopro really that bad? Especially in moving shots with the trees the Gopro shots look terrible and super grainy, is it like that before you upload to TH-cam?

Jeven, which camera do you use for the normal footage? It's the GoPro right? it feels like the colours are nicer on the GoPro, but think it was also sunnier than when you took the insta360. I've watched so many videos now and still not sure if I should buy the hero7 black or insta360. Although that's not the base case, but which camera actually shoots better photos? Only downside I currently see with the insta360 is that I have an android phone, and I read everywhere that their app doesn't work well.
