Thanks for the informative video. Can you tell me if the Insta360 ONE X has an option that will auto correct the angle so that if it is slightly crooked (non level ground) it will auto correct that? A few cameras such as the samsung gear 360 has that option and I've found it very useful when working on rougher terrains. Thanks in advance!

I have a question about time and battery usage. I plan on using the Insta360 on my ultralight aircraft, which means I cannot access the camera for some time, maybe an hour or more. The cameras I presently use, I power them with a USB cable and an external power source.....they will run for hours that way. I can start the camera(s) and not worry about if and when the battery will die. So my question is.....Is it possible to operate the Insta360 camera using an external power source? I would zip tie the cable tightly to the selfie stick, to keep it out of the field of vision. Please help if you have an answer. Thanks.

From what I can tell there is very little difference between the SanDisk extreme A2 and the extreme pro A2 (just 10mb faster read speed but much more expensive). They’re definitely similar in their reframing but for video quality the One X wins by a long way.. I don’t see Rylo competing on any level at the moment

I may be being dumb but I need to ask. I know the 360 x shoots in 5.7k full 360 but what does it play back at. I know the 360 shoots at 4k but the play back certainly isn't displayed in 4k, more like 720p and looks horrible in shadowed areas or low light.? Question is am I going to get 4k play back or at least had???

Which case - VENTURE or DIVE is better for protection in rain and also hearing sound with camera inside case? Also, is the picture quality less inside case?
Is there any plans for them to extend beyond 30 minutes? And is that 30 minutes per file, or do I have to actually push the button again. I still use 2 Gear 360s to record my band performances because I can record 4k video without stopping for the full 4 hours we perform.
I don’t think they’ll do that.. 30 minutes and you’ll have to button on again. And out of curiosity, who is going to watch back 4 hours of 360 video?!?!
@@BenClaremont it is about recording without needing to monitor the camera and then editing later. 2 to 3 360 cameras around the stage and one 4k Sony camera out front.

Hey- yes that combo will work but the selfie stick will be a bit too short to get to eye level. I’d recommend buying the Bushman monopod as featured in the video after this one 👍

I’m confused, I thought it could record for about an hour. Do you get more recording time by using a lower res? Or is the limit related to clip length?
Another brilliant video Ben. As a Fusion user who's fed up with endless waiting for stitching, I'm interested in the One X, however, your comments about needing to colour correct all video has really stopped me from buying it. Would I really need to colour correct every bit of video? If so what app do you use for this on your phone/tablet? Most 360 clips are short, so even if I record for 2 minutes I rarely use a clip length of over 30 seconds, but I might use lots of those small clips in a video, so having to colour correct for each clip, which might be in different locations (so you can't just copy and past colour profiles) does sound like a nightmare. Has the video colour got better in the month you've had it via updates? Thanks mate, I know there are a few big questions there 🤓
Thanks John- actually you can colour correct very easily in the app! Like I said it depends on the lighting.. sometimes the colours look great and sometimes they don’t. Not a big compromise in my opinion to get all of those awesome effects
Hi Ben, what is the best external voice recorder to use with this phone? I just simply need to do recordings at the office and make the recording sharp, with a tripod. No tripod? to put camera down at the desk and start recording? Also i can upload to linkedin and FB/Insta right away? What do you mean by external workflow? If you mean computer it has basically the best of all 360 cameras. And yeah resolve plugin would be good but I don’t think it’s 360 friendly yet
@@BenClaremont OK, full disclosure I still only have the Insta360 ONE, and it's workflow... And Yes, by external workflow I mean by requiring to use Insta360 Studio to first convert the video files from insv to MP4 before being able to edit them in Davinci Resolve for fine tuned edits, color correction, etc. Heck I think I learned that trick by you! :-) I see that the ONE X phone app can export as MP4, so that is useful.. What is your experience with this? Are the exported MP4s as good quality as the insv's?

Ben, appreciate the reviews and 360 info. I've been playing with 360 since 2016 when I picked up a LG 360 camera on a whim. In 2017 I got a MiSphere and pushed the green button with Chinese on it to install the app. Love the MiSphere. Now I've got a One X and I'm really liking the video quality improvement. Here are a few take-aways for me so far that I'd love to hear your comment on either here in comments or even in a video: 1. the photo quality seems to be pretty much the same as the MiSphere, despite more megapixels in the MiSphere. I haven't done extensive testing, but I have done some and so far they look too close to tell even when carefully looking. 2. the invisible selfie stick from insta 360 is pretty nice, but unfortunately has no integrated tripod, and does not collapse to an easily pocketable size. I'm back to using my Benro selfie stick which fits nicely in my photo backpack with the camera attached. There's a little more selfie stick in the shot than I'd like but convenience is much greater. I'd love a recommendation for a Benro style selfie stick without the mini ball head, if you know of anything. 3. you cannot export 5.7 k 360 videos from the app. That's been a surprise. I'm not used to a computer based workflow for 360. 4. the main improvement that Insta 360 should add to their app immediately is to let us get individual 360 frames from video. Exporting a frame of video, or even allowing projections and screenshots would be so helpful. I miss this feature of the MiSphere app so much. And since you can't export 5.7k video, there is no work-around without going to a PC. I have contacted Insta 360 about this. Since photo and video resolution on the One X are virtually the same, this single feature would increase usability of the camera dramatically. One other thing that I think you should change/modify in your commentary on 360 is the claim that 360 vr is not 3D. I know enough about cameras, 3D, etc, that I assumed for a long time that 360 photos in VR mode would offer no 3D effect, and that you'd just be looking at a 2D in 360. On a whim I decided to finally try out that VR mode and was delighted to see that it was 3D, and in fact the 3D effect, while less dramatic than the two lens type, was actually pleasingly either realistic, or at least reminiscent of the old view master experience I also remember from my childhood. I have done a good job of taking 360 photos and videos for my kids from trips I have taken and so the delight has gone to another level as I put the goggles on them and watch them turn around and look around in awe and even try to point or reach toward things in the virtual immersive photo I made. I think the 3D rendition of 360 photos in Google Photos or in the camera apps is actually quite delightful, and you should sell it. I wonder how many people are out there like me, who have a bunch of 360 content, goggles, and have never tried it. Also, we need to pressure Google Photos and others who support 360 photo and video to add a feature for moving forward from photo to photo without removing the device from the goggles. Then we'd truly be back to ViewMaster fun, but with a nearly endless supply of our own photos and videos. Even as it is, I've accidentally stayed up an hour later than I meant to going through my old photos and videos to see them fresh in the VR mode.

God, I remember the days of Theta M15 back in 2015, 3 years later we have this little monster fully packed with almost everything we asked for back in the days :)
the best 360 so far. I think insta 360 is good for any event and scenery shooting. If you want clear sound recording, GoPro 7/8 are more appropriate camera to go.

I use 360 video for building inspections. I have the Fusion and the One x. As we all know the Fusion is a processing nightmare. I love that I can drop all the one X files onto the window desktop program and you can just play and view all of the files. No processing at all. Quality is fine for what I need. The one X is awesome.
@@BenClaremont Not sure who you are replying to but on Windows you cannot edit with the beta software just watch/view your recordings. You can render but kinda usless at this point.

Yes agreed.. there have been some firmware updates since my last video. And yeah you can colour correct but it stitch in FCPX

Ben, I believe you recommend getting a 64 GB card for the One X. Any reason to not go for 128 GB?
No big reason.. the card I trust most has only had a 64GB version so far but no doubt they’ll update that very soon

Is there any plans for them to extend beyond 30 minutes? And is that 30 minutes per file, or do I have to actually push the button again. I still use 2 Gear 360s to record my band performances because I can record 4k video without stopping for the full 4 hours we perform.
I don’t think they’ll do that.. 30 minutes and you’ll have to button on again. And out of curiosity, who is going to watch back 4 hours of 360 video?!?!
@@BenClaremont it is about recording without needing to monitor the camera and then editing later. 2 to 3 360 cameras around the stage and one 4k Sony camera out front.

I just bought the insta360 one x but I don't know how to transfert my photos to my Imac ? when opening the files from micro SD card I can see each photo is 3 copy, I guess it's HDR, 1 overexposed 1 under-exposed and 1 normal.. I'm getting the Insta360 One X - quick question, I'd like to use my Manfrotto MTPIXI-B PIXI Mini Tripod with the Insta360 One X Selfie Stick - do you think this combo would work ok? I'll partly be using this camera for creating interior 360 tours so wonder if the Manfrotto feet will show up more than the Insta's tripod feet? Thanks for your advice! :)
Hey- yes that combo will work but the selfie stick will be a bit too short to get to eye level. I’d recommend buying the Bushman monopod as featured in the video after this one 👍

Another brilliant video Ben. As a Fusion user who's fed up with endless waiting for stitching, I'm interested in the One X, however, your comments about needing to colour correct all video has really stopped me from buying it. Would I really need to colour correct every bit of video? If so what app do you use for this on your phone/tablet? Most 360 clips are short, so even if I record for 2 minutes I rarely use a clip length of over 30 seconds, but I might use lots of those small clips in a video, so having to colour correct for each clip, which might be in different locations (so you can't just copy and past colour profiles) does sound like a nightmare. Has the video colour got better in the month you've had it via updates? Thanks mate, I know there are a few big questions there 🤓
Thanks John- actually you can colour correct very easily in the app! Like I said it depends on the lighting.. sometimes the colours look great and sometimes they don’t. Not a big compromise in my opinion to get all of those awesome effects
Hi Ben, what is the best external voice recorder to use with this phone? I just simply need to do recordings at the office and make the recording sharp, with a tripod. No tripod? to put camera down at the desk and start recording? Also i can upload to linkedin and FB/Insta right away? Also when moving and doing a food video or photo, the camera will follow you, right? thanks for the nice video.

Biggest gripe I have with this is the external workflow. The Premiere plug-in is interesting, but I would LOVE to see a plug-in for Davinci Resolve!
What do you mean by external workflow? If you mean computer it has basically the best of all 360 cameras. And yeah resolve plugin would be good but I don’t think it’s 360 friendly yet
@@BenClaremont OK, full disclosure I still only have the Insta360 ONE, and it's workflow... And Yes, by external workflow I mean by requiring to use Insta360 Studio to first convert the video files from insv to MP4 before being able to edit them in Davinci Resolve for fine tuned edits, color correction, etc. Heck I think I learned that trick by you! :-) I see that the ONE X phone app can export as MP4, so that is useful.. What is your experience with this? Are the exported MP4s as good quality as the insv's?

Ben, appreciate the reviews and 360 info. I've been playing with 360 since 2016 when I picked up a LG 360 camera on a whim. In 2017 I got a MiSphere and pushed the green button with Chinese on it to install the app. Love the MiSphere. Now I've got a One X and I'm really liking the video quality improvement. Here are a few take-aways for me so far that I'd love to hear your comment on either here in comments or even in a video:
1. the photo quality seems to be pretty much the same as the MiSphere, despite more megapixels in the MiSphere. I haven't done extensive testing, but I have done some and so far they look too close to tell even when carefully looking.
2. the invisible selfie stick from insta 360 is pretty nice, but unfortunately has no integrated tripod, and does not collapse to an easily pocketable size. I'm back to using my Benro selfie stick which fits nicely in my photo backpack with the camera attached. There's a little more selfie stick in the shot than I'd like but convenience is much greater. I'd love a recommendation for a Benro style selfie stick without the mini ball head, if you know of anything.
3. you cannot export 5.7 k 360 videos from the app. That's been a surprise. I'm not used to a computer based workflow for 360.
4. the main improvement that Insta 360 should add to their app immediately is to let us get individual 360 frames from video. Exporting a frame of video, or even allowing projections and screenshots would be so helpful. I miss this feature of the MiSphere app so much. And since you can't export 5.7k video, there is no work-around without going to a PC. I have contacted Insta 360 about this. Since photo and video resolution on the One X are virtually the same, this single feature would increase usability of the camera dramatically.
One other thing that I think you should change/modify in your commentary on 360 is the claim that 360 vr is not 3D. I know enough about cameras, 3D, etc, that I assumed for a long time that 360 photos in VR mode would offer no 3D effect, and that you'd just be looking at a 2D in 360. On a whim I decided to finally try out that VR mode and was delighted to see that it was 3D, and in fact the 3D effect, while less dramatic than the two lens type, was actually pleasingly either realistic, or at least reminiscent of the old view master experience I also remember from my childhood. I have done a good job of taking 360 photos and videos for my kids from trips I have taken and so the delight has gone to another level as I put the goggles on them and watch them turn around and look around in awe and even try to point or reach toward things in the virtual immersive photo I made. I think the 3D rendition of 360 photos in Google Photos or in the camera apps is actually quite delightful, and you should sell it. I wonder how many people are out there like me, who have a bunch of 360 content, goggles, and have never tried it. Also, we need to pressure Google Photos and others who support 360 photo and video to add a feature for moving forward from photo to photo without removing the device from the goggles. Then we'd truly be back to ViewMaster fun, but with a nearly endless supply of our own photos and videos. Even as it is, I've accidentally stayed up an hour later than I meant to going through my old photos and videos to see them fresh in the VR mode.
Ben - do you have you have any recommendations as far as a good portable mic to go with this? Just need something to pick up peoples voices

the best 360 so far. I think insta 360 is good for any event and scenery shooting. If you want clear sound recording, GoPro 7/8 are more appropriate camera to go.

I use 360 video for building inspections. I have the Fusion and the One x. As we all know the Fusion is a processing nightmare. I love that I can drop all the one X files onto the window desktop program and you can just play and view all of the files. No processing at all. Quality is fine for what I need. The one X is awesome.
you can already do that with the YI 360, but this camera is not as good as the Fusion or the One X ;)

Sorry to say but it’s going to keep happening.. 360 technology evolves FAST. But just because a new camera comes out it doesn’t mean the great features of your existing camera suddenly disappear 😉
