Ben, appreciate the reviews and 360 info. I've been playing with 360 since 2016 when I picked up a LG 360 camera on a whim. In 2017 I got a MiSphere and pushed the green button with Chinese on it to install the app. Love the MiSphere. Now I've got a One X and I'm really liking the video quality improvement. Here are a few take-aways for me so far that I'd love to hear your comment on either here in comments or even in a video:
    1. the photo quality seems to be pretty much the same as the MiSphere, despite more megapixels in the MiSphere. I haven't done extensive testing, but I have done some and so far they look too close to tell even when carefully looking.
    2. the invisible selfie stick from insta 360 is pretty nice, but unfortunately has no integrated tripod, and does not collapse to an easily pocketable size. I'm back to using my Benro selfie stick which fits nicely in my photo backpack with the camera attached. There's a little more selfie stick in the shot than I'd like but convenience is much greater. I'd love a recommendation for a Benro style selfie stick without the mini ball head, if you know of anything.
    3. you cannot export 5.7 k 360 videos from the app. That's been a surprise. I'm not used to a computer based workflow for 360.
    4. the main improvement that Insta 360 should add to their app immediately is to let us get individual 360 frames from video. Exporting a frame of video, or even allowing projections and screenshots would be so helpful. I miss this feature of the MiSphere app so much. And since you can't export 5.7k video, there is no work-around without going to a PC. I have contacted Insta 360 about this. Since photo and video resolution on the One X are virtually the same, this single feature would increase usability of the camera dramatically.
One other thing that I think you should change/modify in your commentary on 360 is the claim that 360 vr is not 3D. I know enough about cameras, 3D, etc, that I assumed for a long time that 360 photos in VR mode would offer no 3D effect, and that you'd just be looking at a 2D in 360. On a whim I decided to finally try out that VR mode and was delighted to see that it was 3D, and in fact the 3D effect, while less dramatic than the two lens type, was actually pleasingly either realistic, or at least reminiscent of the old view master experience I also remember from my childhood. I have done a good job of taking 360 photos and videos for my kids from trips I have taken and so the delight has gone to another level as I put the goggles on them and watch them turn around and look around in awe and even try to point or reach toward things in the virtual immersive photo I made. I think the 3D rendition of 360 photos in Google Photos or in the camera apps is actually quite delightful, and you should sell it. I wonder how many people are out there like me, who have a bunch of 360 content, goggles, and have never tried it. Also, we need to pressure Google Photos and others who support 360 photo and video to add a feature for moving forward from photo to photo without removing the device from the goggles. Then we'd truly be back to ViewMaster fun, but with a nearly endless supply of our own photos and videos. Even as it is, I've accidentally stayed up an hour later than I meant to going through my old photos and videos to see them fresh in the VR mode.

I use 360 video for building inspections. I have the Fusion and the One x. As we all know the Fusion is a processing nightmare. I love that I can drop all the one X files onto the window desktop program and you can just play and view all of the files. No processing at all. Quality is fine for what I need. The one X is awesome.

I just bought the ONE X, I like to do driving videos so I do need to record more than 30 mins, which is the only draw back of this camera for me, other than this, the free capture ability pretty much solve my ultimate driving video problem, panning while driving, previously I have to attach a gimbal along with the action camera and manually pan the gimbal to capture some nice skyscrapers or beautiful scenic roads with the controller in my hand while driving, which is distracting and dangerous, thank god for the one x, with the over capture feature, I can now pan the camera angle in the post production, how crazy is that! and also the hyper lapse driving look crazy good, anyone interested can check out my video to see what I mean

Great video but i did buy the Fusion because of the waterproof housing out of the box, and saw within tons of reviews that the image quality is better on the GoPro. But the waterproof out of the box was the biggest reason why i did buy the Fusion.
One thing i really hate about the fusion is the fusion studio.

Your video confirms my purchase decision - I have the camera for a good week. The workflow on the iPad is absolutely simple.
Unfortunately, it is limited to FHD - and the desktop software offers 5.7 k export, but not the same options as the APP.
After the camera is sure to be a hit - could you please create a tutorial on the PC workflow? Thanks in advance!

Hi Ben, great video. My OneX arrived just as I returned to London from a trip to Madrid, sigh. But to be honest I am new to 360 video/pics and I feel like I have bought a racing car and so far just learned how to fasten the seat belts, there's a lot to learn in order to get the best out of it.
I have an older 'selfie stick' that almost disappears in shots, you seem to use a tiny tripod as well. Do you have any recommendations for these? Are you using both together in the shots where the camera is on-pavement but head height? How does that not fall over?! (My nightmare is the thing falling over onto concrete...! BoomShatter!!)
Finally I have previously used Sony Vegas for editing on normal and some HD video, I expect I would have to do a lot of this 'reframing' and single clip editing (like 'time shifting') on individual clips before importing them into a package where they can all be strung together against a backing track for example. A video on a multi-clip film workflow would be most welcome. I am Subscribed and ready to go!

I may be being dumb but I need to ask. I know the 360 x shoots in 5.7k full 360 but what does it play back at. I know the 360 shoots at 4k but the play back certainly isn't displayed in 4k, more like 720p and looks horrible in shadowed areas or low light.? Question is am I going to get 4k play back or at least had???

Can you tell me if the Insta360 ONE X has an option that will auto correct the angle so that if it is slightly crooked (non level ground) it will auto correct that? • @nihonbunka

The Ricoh allows an external microphone (I think, or is it only a 3d thing?) so you would not need to record externally. All of your videos are made with more than one camera, the 360 and a DSLR (I presume) because you are recording your voice with the DSLR (or whatever it is). If you were using the Theta V could you dispense with the other hidden camera? Will it be possible to record voice via Wifi in the future, I wonder.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  5 ปีที่แล้ว

That’s a spatial audio mic with the Ricoh, which picks up ambient noise but not really dialogue. Please watch my video ‘how I record clean sound’

@@BenClaremontThank you very much. That Zoom certainly picks up luscious sound, and the NLE plugin pluraleyes is something I had never head of. Even so
100 for Zoom, 100 for the Rhode, 150 for the Pluralize plugin, and 200 USD to upgrade my Vegas so that it is compatible with the the plugin is er, 550.

Hi there Ben, thanks and congrats on your great vids, spent the morning going through loads of em... Looks to me like the OneX is going to be a fantastic match for me, I hope you don't mind confirming that looking at my usage/priorities, which are a bit... specific.. ;) thanks in advance!!
    - I fly wingsuits, from planes and cliffs, at speeds regularly over 200km/h, with wind vibration.. For me, that would indicate a high fps at 4k (dont really need higher res) would give me crisper, smoother vid. This would put the OneX above the Virb360 or Fusion at 4k, right??
    - Because of this usage and the speeds/vibration, stabilisation is super important to me
    - Flying over terrain sometimes, decent dynamic range is going to matter
    - Metrics like Garmin's are VERY useful to me, I even overlay my heart rate from a Garmin HR on my wrist, so ppl can tell when I sh!t my pants hahaha...
    - Form factor is a consideration, as anything too big is going to create some nasty wind resistance. Also, whatever I use is going onto a tripod screw on top of my helmet, or on my wrist, or on my chest...
    - I dont care much about photos, that's a bonus
    - I care least about sound, since all vids will have music over them, noone wants to hear 200kph winds lol :/
    - I have powerful enough PC, but im lazy and inexperienced at editing and would rather get decent results without too much hassle if possible... I'm not too anally retentive about accuracy, but more about a nice sharp image at these high speeds
    - I have a slew of GoPro's already, from 3 to 5 Session (great for ankle etc), and a Garmin Ultra30. I use footage from different cameras on chest, forwards head, rear head, ankle at will during one vid, i'll chop around between them, I don't care which brand really..
    - Up to a certain level (1k?) money isn't the issue...
Hope u have the time to give me your 2c based on this list, and I'll happily order your recommendation from your link to earn u your fair dues!... Looks to me like the OneX, adding the GPS remote for metrics (handy remote given my use, too) would be the best current buy.
Thanks again for taking the time, sorry for the length of the post mate! You can see some of my basic stuff on Insta at @jumpingjoseph
All the best, keep up the great work!!
    Cheers!
