@nick clanton-I agree with you! (Except about the Fiero rebuild-if it didn’t work before, it most likely won’t work again.) I personally believe that Buick should’ve been retired instead of Pontiac and the Saturn Corporation.
With no more Plymouth, chances are we’re not getting a remake of Christine. And DeLorean may have been arrested a year after making his vehicle, but at least he left us with icon in Back To The Future. So, thank you.
You do realize that you can still find 1958 Plymouth fury's right not to mention the belvedere and savoy where basically the same car and plenty of those exist still to. Now as far as them not wanting to destroy them we luckily have cgi to help with that
Wish those brands were still around. I've owned a 73 Plymouth Fury, 73Pontiac Firebird Esprit, 71 Mercury Cougar, 85 Oldsmobile Cutlass and a 70 Plymouth Roadrunner. My brother even had a 75 AMC Hornet x (Levi edition)

Back then I had a Triumph TR6. I was the dude on the side of the road that you passed trying to get my sexy-looking pile of pre-Thatcher British crap to move.
I just loved my Oldsmobile Calais during the mid-1990s. It was sleek and sexy and for its size, crazy fast and I thought I was going to have it for a long while… Except, I left it overnight for my mechanic to change the oil and he changed it all right… He took it out for a spin with his friends, got drunk, totaled it and left it on the side of the road. I couldn’t believe it! Oh, well, my mom got me a Mitsubishi Eclipse that I drove for a little while but I sure do miss that Oldsmobile.
Pontiac is one I'd love to have back!! I absolutely adored my azteks, I had 2 of them. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat! I do also miss mercury, Mt mountaineer was an absolute gem of an suv.
What about the DeSoto? I remember my dad, who worked as a mechanic at a Plymouth/Dodge/Chrysler/DeSoto dealership, bringing home tech manuals for them.
I will always associate Saab with my primary school headteacher as she always drove them, we even had a dealership in the town I grew up in, it’s now a daycare.
Surprised not to see Holden on the list, the Australian brand owned by General Motors. After GM pulled manufacturing out of Australia in October 2017, most of their cars were rebadged Chevys’, GMCs’, or Opels’. Holden’s most iconic car the Commodore was continued as a rebadged Opel Insignia. It was the final nail on the coffin for the brand and down right rude to Holden fans. Plus the people who worked at the Holden factory in Elizabeth, South Australia called their jobs their lives. However we did get Holdens in North America but they were rebadged Pontiacs’ and Chevys’.
Ah how nostalgic especially the Delorean motor company , i recalled i used to get up early as a kid just to see its owner starting it since there weren't many car owners in India back then
Yes i see those vehicles who is make a comeback in the decades in the years like Edsel and Delorean or Saab and Studebaker and Oldsmobile and Pontiac and Plymouth and Mercury did make those for a long time
Just before Saab got discontinued, they only made a limited production of newer Saab 9-4x’s and 9-5’s meaning that if you were to look for one of these for sale, it would take a couple years to find one but Isuzu only makes commercial trucks so technically, Isuzu is still around
Nash? Packard? And let's not forget the 72 companies that were all lost from 1870-1940. Last few being Graham, and The Marmon. Later joined Ford, and left after war. I could as well bring up the Checker taxi company, passing away over time.
If i recall correctly. Back in the mid 2010's i think it was they actually tried to bring the Delorean back, but from what i heard it didn't get anywhere.
I wish GM would revive Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Hummer and provide more v8 vehicles instead of v6 cars for example v8 swap the Pontiac Bonneville SSEI, Pontiac Grand Am GT or go with SLP Performance Parts. Also, I wish the fourth gen Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was revive in 2023
I think it’s actually pretty cool that Hammer is going to be an electrical brand now. Hopefully this will change everything(even though I never owned a hummer in my entire 31 years of life)
Here, have a "Cool Story Bro" comment: When I was a junior in high school I got a brand new midnight blue 2002 Pontiac Firebird with T-tops and a 500w stereo. And let me tell you, I was _hot shit_ that day. (Very _spoiled_ hot shit, but not spoiled _rotten_ because I was eternally grateful for everything I had and took care of it accordingly.) Goddamn, I loved that car. I named him Toulouse after the painter Toulouse-Lautrec (I went to art school for illustration and I loved his work), and he was my baby. He ended up being my little sister's first car in 2013, and she loved him just as much as I did (she continued calling him Toulouse because, as she said, _that was his name_ and changing it would've been wrong). When she got a new car a few years ago we finally sold him to the dealership, but at least she and I knew he was _immediately_ being bought by a collector who was going to love and appreciate him just as much as we had. We both cried after I helped her clean him out because we had SO MANY memories in that car during some of the best years of our lives, especially mine since I had him all the way through my college years. It's a shame Pontiac isn't around anymore.
I recently had a Mercury Grand Marquis for several years and loved it. I was completely unaware that Mercury was gone. I would honestly love to have another one. They're great cars.
Plymouth did NOT bite the dust. They had a significant share of the market as an inexpensive alternative. It was a directive from the Daimler overlords that it had too few sales. (Even though Plymouth sales were much larger than Mercedes sales.) A year later, one of the last things from Daimler was a berating about lost sales. The lost sales? Exactly how many Plymouths were normally sold. So Daimler blamed Chrysler for their stupid decisions. btw, Chrysler had money in the bank that mysteriously disappeared when Daimler disconnected. Finally, Robert Eaton personally profited from the merger - had he actual scruples, that merger never would have happened, he should be in prison for insider trading.
One that should be higher the sabb is the American motor Company (AMC) even though the Jeep lives today it does not have the AMC or no AMC produced today.
I would put Pontiac ahead of Plymouth, since, like the Delorean, the Firebird was used in several iconic franchises like Smokey and the Bandit and Knight Ride. Plus the 1964 GTO is the progenitor of the muscle car (smaller car+GIANT engine, and that was also John Delorean’s idea.)
Anyone else hoping that some of these brands get revived as electric car brands in the future? Cause I drive an inherited Oldsmobile and that thing still runs great and is fantastic to drive. So if GM brought it back with good quality and made it electric I'm in.
@@heczamz8483 Yes please the Delorean must return , I mean since that car appears recently in Hot Wheels Unleashed and Forza Horizon 5 , DMC-12 must make it comeback and I'm pretty sure there is gonna be a thousands of people would like to get their hands on that sweet beast that is Delorean !
Pontiac would be a major competitor to Dodge today if it still existed, A RWD GrandPrix(G8), a rwd GrandAm(G6), Ponitac Torrent SUV supercharged, and the firebird would be all big compeitor to Dodge Today.
I think if gm brought back Pontiac for limited releases of their best selling muscle cars, they would make a killing. Like pontiac firebird trans am, and pontiac Gto. Modern muscle car redesign.
I wish Saturn was still around. My very first car was a 1972 Chevy Nova. My parents bought it for me. I bought my first Saturn in 1991. It was a good car. My mom's first car when she learned to drive was an Oldsmobile Dynanmic 88 in 1961. I was 10 years old at the time.
It was depressing when dad took our Pontiac Grand Am to the junkyard. That was the first car I remembered our family having. I don't remember what was wrong with it, I imagine it was getting harder to find parts for.
Hudson and Packard should definitely have made it. They were much more popular and influential than half the companies on this list. Maybe do a list of companies prior to 1960?
I find it funny that SAAB boasted in the commercial about how only one manufacturer makes cars but the jet used in the commercial had an engine made by Volvo.
I did have a 2011 Mercury Milan. It was a good car. I was hoping for a Ford Fusion but, the cars had to many miles on them. When I got the Milan it had a little bit over 11,000 miles on it. The price was the same as this one Fusion. I took the car a test drive. I just did a circle around the dealership at that time. It was a little bigger car than a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5. I even drove it home towards my parents house. I was recovering from my bad car accident when I broke my left ankle. That was over 9 years ago. I haven’t drove the Milan almost 5 years. The car that I drive now is a 2015 Ford Escape.
I grew up with Hudson, Studebaker, Packard, Nash, Desoto, Edsel, Sunbeam, Mercury, and more plus the GM, Ford, and Chrysler line. We had many car companies back then, now they have been replaced with Japanese, German, French, and Italian cars.
My dream car would be a 1956 Packard Caribbean , last model year of the full size Packard before the merger with Studebaker. Sad end to a great luxury brand.
I loved my Saab 900. It's GM's fault Saab is no longer here. They priced it like a Mercedes and BMW, but failed to give it the same fit and finish, and performance. And like other GM brands on this list that went belly up, GM failed to update and remodel Saab models to be able to compete. It wasn't unusual for GM to go a decade or more before they remodeled one of their vehicles. All the while Japanese and German car companies did every 5-6 years. GM only has itself to blame these car brands are no longer here.
It's also SAABs fault. Under GM ownership, GM would ship the underpinnings to make SAABs and a budget to do so - SAAB ignored everything, made their own changes and thus bankrupted themselves. I loved the quirkiness of SAABs but unfortunately, they doomed themselves.
I'm a big Mopar guy and Plymouth was always a favorite of mine. I was very disappointed when Daimler decided to discontinue the Plymouth brand. Chrysler in the late 90's had big plans to reinvent the dying Plymouth brand with the pt cruiser, Plymouth Backpack, Plymouth Pronto and Pronto Spyder.
My father used to work for GM-technically, for the Saturn Corporation. In fact, he was one of the first employees to work in the Tennessee plant! Personally, I feel that Buick should have been discontinued instead of Pontiac.
Pontiac drove John DeLoreon out of management. Without him, Pontiac couldn't come up with many new ideas. And since Buick can't produce at real GS any longer, it's really not Buick any longer.
Oh wow, I never heard that your father is the first employee to work in Tennessee. But you know, I feel that Buick and Cadillac should have been discontinued instead of Pontiac, Saturn Corporation and maybe Oldsmobile, I would say.
I fucking hate Buicks. They think they are so luxury and shit, well guess what, they are nothing like our Cadillacs! The true American luxury car brand will always be CADILLAC. I own a 08' DTS in White Diamond Tricoat, and I love that car so much. Our Neighbors who are 102 now (Im surprised they are still alive) have a 1999 Buick and their daughter has a Buick suv. Buick= PUKE.
@@nikerailfanningttm9046 Agreed. Buicks are meant for senior citizens. Everytime I see a Buick car, its ALWAYS a senior citizen driving it. And yes Cadillac does make great cars. I always liked their TS models(ATS, CTS, GTS, etc.) and the Escallade EXT truck. At the time in early 2000s, the CTS and Escallade EXT were great cars that they were in the movie The Matrix Reloaded.
@@NIK12787 Buick is only around because of China the Chinese market loves Buick it has status over there because an emperor was seen being chauffeured around in one in like the 50s or something anyway it was GMs decision to axe Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn and save Buick to cater to the Chinese market even though Buick sales in North America are laughably abysmal and they are unfortunately mostly known here in America as a mid market wannabe luxury brand that only appeals to old people
They should bring Saturn back at General Motors as their budget price EV company. Electric compact cars with 270 miles of range under $20,000 would definitely be a top seller.
I driven and/or owned a number of cars over the years.. Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Ford, Mercury, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Toyota. My 2012 RAV4 (current vehicle) is probably the most trustworthy vehicle I've ever owned... but I will forever mourn the passing of my 1993 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. All the comfort of a plush living room sofa, the "go SCAT!" speed of a much lighter car, sure-footedness better than my AWD Mercury Mountaineer (and equal to my AWD RAV4)... if the motherboard hadn't failed, I'd still be driving that beast today. Aah, memories... :-) Also, I know it's not a recent loss, but my grandparents & parents frequently spoke of the two Hudson Hornets the family owned at one time or another. Apparently all they needed was a little more power & they would've graduated from really good to great.
I hope that someday Pontiac will make a comeback. They should have kept Chevrolet for the fleet vehicles. Closed GMC and kept Pontiac. I also wish they would have put out the second generation Fiero the 88' GT is my dream car from the 80's. I would have loved to see the gen 2.
I gotta say, my 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 is a fun car to drive 🔥🔥🔥🔥 With just over 100k miles, that's not bad for a 20 year old car.... the pipes so loud on it too, beautiful bright red with t-tops...just a beautiful creation that Pontiac came up with, their best car period💯💯
Edsel was Henry Ford's ONLY son ! Henry mistreated him and he died fairly young in 1941 due to ulcer conditions. Henry died in 1947. In the mean time, Edsel's son Henry II took over during WW2 and saved the company.
i had a 2001 Saab 9-3 Viggen Convertible up until this year. I liked the car a lot, but was getting to expensive for upkeep for me. Surprised AMC didn't make this list
I live in Long Island, New York and I know that Checker was the car company that made the New York City taxi system. They were popular here in NY between the 1950’s to mid 80’s and early 90’s when they were mostly replaced with the notorious Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis taxis and police cars. Nowadays the NYC taxis are usually Ford Escape SUVs, Toyota Prius sedans, Ford Transit Connect vans, and Nissan NV200 compact van taxis. However they still sell the Checker and Ford toy taxi cars in New York City where the New Yorkers take the taxis to work and buy the toys for their kids.

Different entity
Different Case, I'd say that it's Brand is Name only, they are far better quality from what I have heard Nowadays
I miss some of these brands. Im a Ford guy but i do miss Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, and AMC. I also miss Mercury. Me and my dad are building his first car which is a 1965 Mercury Comet for me to drive around in. My dad also owns a restored 1969 AMX
I wish Pontiac would make a come back love to see a new trans am and a proper rebuild of the Fiero
To be truthfully honest, the Pontiac Aztec was a really nice vehicle, it did need some upgrades though!!!
@nick clanton-I agree with you! (Except about the Fiero rebuild-if it didn’t work before, it most likely won’t work again.)
I personally believe that Buick should’ve been retired instead of Pontiac and the Saturn Corporation.
Now as far as them not wanting to destroy them we luckily have cgi to help with that
No remake of Christine necessary. All Hollywood would do to is is add some new characters with bad lines to fulfill the racial quota.
You have great taste in cars
@@wojtek1765 that's not including the 68 and 69 Mustangs, 85 and 91 Rangers. Plus bikes. A 82 Yamaha 750 Maxim, 99 Honda CBR 900RR, 06 Suzuki Hayabusa, 97 Suzuki Marauder.
I had a 1998 Plymouth neon. It was great, easy to maintain and great gas mileage. Needs to come back
Delorean isn’t really “gone” you can still buy newly made parts from the company or even place an order for a brand new DMC-12
You've just got me intrested I better do some researching
Yeah Deloean is back technically it's just as big as some small brands
It’s in Houston
Pontiac, Plymouth, and Mercury are the only brands on this list that should have never been dropped. They are needed back right now.
Im sad that theres no AMC (1954-1988). Id love to see a 2022 AMC Javelin SST
The Hammer 🔨 is a legendary car!
It’s the beast of the cars.
Ah how nostalgic especially the Delorean motor company , i recalled i used to get up early as a kid just to see its owner starting it since there weren't many car owners in India back then
Yes i see those vehicles who is make a comeback in the decades in the years like Edsel and Delorean or Saab and Studebaker and Oldsmobile and Pontiac and Plymouth and Mercury did make those for a long time
DeLorean actually still exists as a car company.
Just before Saab got discontinued, they only made a limited production of newer Saab 9-4x’s and 9-5’s meaning that if you were to look for one of these for sale, it would take a couple years to find one but Isuzu only makes commercial trucks so technically, Isuzu is still around
I hope that Pontiac will make a comeback. Amazing cars.
Nash?
I remember that too!
2015?
I miss Oldsmobile and Pontiac.
Same thing because I like the v8 engines and their performance on the road
I wish GM would revive Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Hummer and provide more v8 vehicles instead of v6 cars for example v8 swap the Pontiac Bonneville SSEI, Pontiac Grand Am GT or go with SLP Performance Parts. Also, I wish the fourth gen Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was revive in 2023
I think it’s actually pretty cool that Hammer is going to be an electrical brand now. Hopefully this will change everything(even though I never owned a hummer in my entire 31 years of life)
Here, have a "Cool Story Bro" comment:
When I was a junior in high school I got a brand new midnight blue 2002 Pontiac Firebird with T-tops and a 500w stereo. And let me tell you, I was _hot shit_ that day. (Very _spoiled_ hot shit, but not spoiled _rotten_ because I was eternally grateful for everything I had and took care of it accordingly.)
Goddamn, I loved that car.
Bring back Mercury we still have a 2002 Mountaineer Convenience and I love that thing to death and Scion is just Toyota 2.0
my first car Geo Metro ... 3 cylinders of fury lol
Morris, Rover, Hillman, Triumph (cars not motorcycles), Jensen, Marcos, Reliant, Talbot, TVR and many more
I would put Pontiac ahead of Plymouth, since, like the Delorean, the Firebird was used in several iconic franchises like Smokey and the Bandit and Knight Ride. Plus the 1964 GTO is the progenitor of the muscle car (smaller car+GIANT engine, and that was also John Delorean’s idea.)
Why the hell did Pontiac go out of business it was a good company
Great video and I enjoyed it and have a blessed day
Anyone else hoping that some of these brands get revived as electric car brands in the future?
Cause I drive an inherited Oldsmobile and that thing still runs great and is fantastic to drive. So if GM brought it back with good quality and made it electric I'm in.
I’m glad to see Plymouth and Pontiac on this list, but I’m surprised AMC wasn’t on it. My first car was a Plymouth Breeze.
I loved my Saturn. Best car I had even considering the Honda Civic I bought after it, which was my second favorite car.
I'd love to see a return of the DeLorean! Loving the new Hummer.
I would like to se the classic Delorean make a comeback
As an electric car. It would make so much sense.
They do exist.. in a way
@@jorgengabrielsson6660 yes but not in the original design
@@heczamz8483 bro no god no, not electric, I know it makes sense but just no.
I had a Saturn, liked it, and would like to see it return.
If Plymouth still alive, maybe there's a new Barracuda
It was depressing when dad took our Pontiac Grand Am to the junkyard. That was the first car I remembered our family having. I don't remember what was wrong with it, I imagine it was getting harder to find parts for.
this should be "Top 10 Car Brands That Don't Exist Anymore in the U.S." since Isuzu is still operational
I wish GM would come to their senses and bring back Oldsmobile and Pontiac, those great brands made some of my most favourite cars of all time.
GM can't even sell GM's
Hudson and Packard should definitely have made it. They were much more popular and influential than half the companies on this list. Maybe do a list of companies prior to 1960?
I find it funny that SAAB boasted in the commercial about how only one manufacturer makes cars but the jet used in the commercial had an engine made by Volvo.
My mother had a green Saturn Vue that she got used after the brand went defunct I believe. I remember it being nice.
My parents had a few of these, we had a couple Saabs and we still have an Isuzu suv
Welcome to Trollhättan in Sweden if you want to learn more about SAAB. SAAB was born here and we even got a SAAB museum. 😊
I’m Aussie so I would love to see Holden back
I grew up with Hudson, Studebaker, Packard, Nash, Desoto, Edsel, Sunbeam, Mercury, and more plus the GM, Ford, and Chrysler line. We had many car companies back then, now they have been replaced with Japanese, German, French, and Italian cars.
My dream car would be a 1956 Packard Caribbean , last model year of the full size Packard before the merger with Studebaker. Sad end to a great luxury brand.
I miss Pontiac. Some of my favorite cars came from the brand. Mainly the 60s GTO.
Would love to see Pontiac back on the road!
We're going to need a part 2
Loved my two Saturn's. With GM getting rid of it, I will never drive another GM car.
What would you wager that your grandchildren won't ever see another new GM car for sale in 50 years?
I'm a big Mopar guy and Plymouth was always a favorite of mine. I was very disappointed when Daimler decided to discontinue the Plymouth brand.
Chrysler in the late 90's had big plans to reinvent the dying Plymouth brand with the pt cruiser, Plymouth Backpack, Plymouth Pronto and Pronto Spyder.
What about the fabulous K cars? The Aries K and the Reliant K. They had a bad reputation but I loved them. They also had a great resale value.
DMC is still around and is run in Texas and is beginning new production soon.
I personally love scion tbh. Some of the best cars I’ve ever owned.
Edsel was Henry Ford's ONLY son ! Henry mistreated him and he died fairly young in 1941 due to ulcer conditions. Henry died in 1947. In the mean time, Edsel's son Henry II took over during WW2 and saved the company.
The Studebaker Avanti still rings my chimes.
The last Hawks were mighty sexy too
i had a 2001 Saab 9-3 Viggen Convertible up until this year. I liked the car a lot, but was getting to expensive for upkeep for me. Surprised AMC didn't make this list
That's so wild. The Scion is called just the Toyota 86 (Alternatively, the Subaru BRZ) here in Australia - and it's still being produced to this day!
I know it’s not a car brand but it is to me. I think Checker is a brand that you should of been at least a mention.
