Make a list of ugly 80s cars
Ive seen a lot ofbcar owners ruin their cars aesthetically, but if i were to mention a car ugly from factory id say the Pontiac Aztec
Definitely the VW golf harlequin. And the Reliant Robin was just impractical honestly not ugly

The odd thing about the VW Harlequin, is it was NEVER intended to be anything other than a display model for VW dealerships to show off the colours the cars were available in. If you look closely, you can see that they are all a "one basic colour" car - look at the sills, roof, rear quarter panel etc (the one in the thumbnail was originally bright yellow). What VW then did, was put the easily changed parts - bonnet, wings, front grille, doors etc and put one on of a different colour the car was for sale in. That way they only needed to take a few cars from the production line and have all of them show all the colours ( a bit like you see some taxis and police cars where they order 20 black and 20 white cars, mix the bonnet, boot and doors and get 40 black & whites). They found that the public were trying to order cars with this colour scheme, so on the basis that any sale is a sale, VW sold just what the customer wanted.

They struggled to sold them though. So much that some dealers swapped the panels to sell solid color cars.

8:53 They say the Ford Taurus looked like a "series of bubbles" which refers to the third-generation of Taurus, yet WatchMojo only shows the 1st and 2nd Gen Taurus which were generally considered attractive cars at the time. The bubble design didn't debut until the 1996 model year.

But the Taurus STILL sold well over the years during its run.
They did that with the cavalier too, they never showed the more bubble looking body style they were complaining about. That and I don't think the late 90's cavaliers or Taurus were that bad. There were certainly uglier cars, Dodge Neon being one of them

True but it did belch out as a ragtop in 1990. The ads were a joke and driving the car I could feel the turn signal stalk about to fall off. The entire car felt cheap and yet the guy was willing to teach me how to drive it for a sell I did not do a manual transmission too well then. Still I don’t

The Buick Skylark wasn’t bad in my opinion. It just had a classic design.
The Ford Taurus station wagons weren’t bad either, and are products of their time.
I just want to defend the fiat multipla here: it was indeed the ugliest car ever, but it was also incresibly practical, amazing for families and the field of view was like being in a futuristic cockpit, visibility was incredible.
I must say, you need balls to defend the ugliest car in the list and for that you have my respect 😏😎😉😊
I grew up in that car and I love it
If the Multipla was sold in Australia or if I lived in Europe.

I still have one now. I’ll agree it looks like crap but you can’t see that when your driving it.
It’s an ok car 6 seats and you can take the back ones out if needed. It’s quite practical

This is definitely not a car channel… Lets just say that whoever made this list didnt do much research… I just going to say, who the hell thinks a harlequin is ugly, whoever thinks that knows nothing about cars, its one of the coolest looking cars out there, it is real fun and has multiple theories on how it was conceived. The golf mk3 was and is gorgeous, and depending on the color scheme the harlequin has is amazing. If we are talking about ugly cars and you put this in front of all that, pfffff. They didnt even mention the citroen xsara picasso, great car, worst design. Bmw e46 compact, as expensive to maintain as a 3 series e46 but with a down syndrome front, not to mention the ugly tiny boot.

I was going the same thing. I bought a Kia Soul when it first came out, it wasnt a pretty car I used to call it a Lego Block. 10 years later I still have it and now looking at the Yugo...I do like the look of the Yugo.

The Harlekin actually started out as an apprentice project. Their task was to find a way to promote the Polo, the Golf's little brother.
I actually always thought the Ford Aspire (still festiva here in Aus) was an average yet nice looking car. Sold like crazy here in Australia.
So many of these vehicles I grew up around and as bad as they were, they also brought some great memories. Especially the X-90 sidekicks, loved that whatever you want to call it. It was my first car, I was 17 and really didn't care about how it looked. It had leather, T-tops and a 6 CD player in the trunk. Later added a 12 inch subwoofer, so I could piss the neighbors off with......good times.
The original 80s Taurus was a breakthrough at the time. The 90s Taurus is the one you should have shown and of which was referenced. It has the ovals at every angle and was quite controversial at the time. You should update that segment.
I’m a Honda boy, but i have to mention that my grandma had a Ford Aspire and that car was a tank! Very solid well made car. It sucked goin on the freeway with it but it was a good car. She sold it to our neighbor who trashed it, but its still rolling!

We had a Ford Taurus X for 9 years. It was an awesome family vehicle and had every option they had back then. Never any issues with it

Back when there were mostly 2 doors and back seat passengers had to climb over the front seat that tilted forward, I don't miss those days
They had electric cars decades ago ready for production to the public but all of the major motor companies as well as the oil companies banded together and shut down the release because they would lose a lot of money. The electric car was probably designed to be unappealing so they could say "at least we tried" even though they designed it to fail.

I worked at Enterprise from 97-98. The the Skylark, Monte Carlo/Lumina, Taurus, Neon and Aspire and I may get some heat from this the Expedition were terrible. My favorites at the time were the DeVille, Volvo V70, Yukon and Astro van. Those were good times

I will say the face-lift 3rd Gen Cavalier looks quite nice, especially the Z24

Watchmojo usually does a decent job with these lists, but here, they dropped the ball on several occasions:
- The Yugo came out in the 80’s and lasted until the early 90’s, at least here in the US. That alone disqualifies it from the list.
- The 3rd Gen Taurus IS an ugly car, but please make sure to actually show the 3rd Gen, not the 1st Gen which came from the 80’s AND was revolutionary for the time.
- If you’re gonna mention the Buick Skylark, don’t wait until the end of that segment to show it. You had clips of the Regal and the Reatta for no reason, not even related to the narration.
- This generation of Golf wasn’t very good, but the Harlequin was friggin’ cool. This version was actually a display model made to show off the car’s vibrant color palette through the different colored body panels. I’d rock that car in a heartbeat.
- The Chevrolet Cavalier was a terrible car but I wouldn’t call it ugly. I’d called the 90’s Pontiac Grand Am uglier than the Cavalier with its ugly AF body cladding and its cheap AF interior. And again, if you’re going to include the 90’s Cavalier, pick a generation and stick to it.
- The Reliant Robin came out in the 70’s. Like the Yugo, that alone should disqualify it from the list, especially considering the car went through multiple facelifts that varied on the market. As if the facelifts even mattered because its “ugliness” came from having three wheels.
The Red Bull Car was a Mini, not a Suzuki
My parents owned a YUGO. It would scoot and get good gas mileage. The war in Yugoslavia killed it with no spare parts making it to the States. My brother bought one and used parts from my parents car to keep it running for a few more years.
My mom had an aspire for years. I sat in the back seat behind my brother… who is 6’5” my other brother who is 6’2” sat next to me in that tiny car. Long trips were the absolute worst

The Buick Park Avenue is another contender for ugliest car of the 1990's. What is worse is that it was clear that it wasn't built with longevity in mind or out and out speed, its V6 engine of 3.8l only produced ~200BHP. As Jeremy Clarkson said, "HOW?! We can get 200BHP from a vacuum cleaner,"

Did own a Taurus and a Chrysler Imperial. The Taurus that I had did have some issues like the transmission going out, ended up selling the car to a junkyard. The Chrysler Imperial that I just recently sold to a good friend was given to me and my fiance from our former landlady. It started to have alot of issues.

Wow, I've owned two of your honorable mentions: a 1989 Ford Taurus 4-door sedan, and a 1998 Saturn SW2 (not SW1, but close enough). I did not think either of these were ugly, but did have some design flaws inside the chassis. The Taurus' transmission gave out completely in 1998, and cost too much to replace. The Saturn was pretty gutless on hills. My daughter named it "Mortimer" and didn't like to drive it.
I used to have a Lumina in Highschool, loved that thing. I found a lot of this vehicles appealing. I might even buy a Suzuki X90 for fun, it looks like it would be a fun weekend car.

Yeah, the Aztec was hideous and the restyled versions by Buick and Old were not much better. Speaking of restyled for other divisions, Cadillac restyled Chev Cavaliers and called them Cimarrons. You never fooled yourself into think it was an actual Cadillac.

In 97 I had a friend in the USAF & then in the early 2000s my brother's friend had Geo Metros in hatchback and the looked like eggs on wheels. Also had a neighbor that had an Eagle Summit.
