HI , enjoyed this video . I'm just north of Joplin in Carl Junction , Mo. I guess I need to make a trip to Springfield . I have only been in the hobby about 5 months . I am doing N scale , mainly because of lack of room . My layout is 28" X 66" . Am now getting ready to ballast track and start some other scenery . I will enjoy seeing your new layout . I am modeling Frisco and MKT .
I have been working on my Conrail Philadelphia Division N scale layout since April 2022. It is 4 ft by 7ft. I used Ikea tables for the bench work and work station, worked out excellently.
@@thatrcttrainguyAbout 6 weeks. This is return to a hobby I did as a kid, some 50 years ago. HO...on a 4x8. I'm just getting to learn how to lay track again. Great site!
Hello! It has been tedious at times, but I do enjoy house projects. I’m sure it’ll pay off having a nicer layout room to enjoy for the long haul. -Mike
I love seeing the younger generation get involved with model railroading whatever scale they choose. Sadly my collection will not go to my children. They don’t want nothing to do with my trains, and that’s very sad. I have left instructions with my wife to sell off my entire collection should anything happen to me. I am a new subscriber to your channel and look forward to seeing your material. I really enjoyed this video. That club has a beautiful layout and I really enjoyed it. Have a wonderful day. Frank
Hi, Frank! Thank you very much for watching and joining us here on The Main Track. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the video. Both of my kids have been tolerant of my trains over the years. Haha. They’ve always enjoyed going to train shows and taking train trips. But, they certainly didn’t inherit my obsession with the modeling aspect. I haven’t thought far enough ahead about what to do with my collection someday. Lord willing, I have a few more years left before that point. Maybe my boys will end up catching the modeling bug after all! -Mike
@@MainTrackThank you for the response Mike. I really do hope your children get the bug from you. Keep up the great videos and I’ll be watching. Thank you sincerely, Frank
Ya cant help but love this hobby. I have seen these guys who claim, "Me deerhunter! Me man!" They always check it out and alot of time get into it. (Not menat to be bad towards deerhunters, thats what i do...... sometimes.)
Yes, I completely agree. It seems certain sports and hobbies are considered more “normal” than others. Thankfully, it seems model railroading is a little cooler nowadays- at least compared to when I was younger. As a kid, it made me a geek…as an adult it’s viewed as something neat and different. Being unique is something I can accept! Ha.
Hi, Devin! It’s a pretty awesome bunch of guys (perhaps there are some ladies, too)! I’ve wanted to join the club over the years. But, being the TV station owns me during the weeknight evenings, I would never be able to make it to club meetings. Visiting events like this are always great. I’m sure they’d love to see you! Hopefully I’ll have some semblance of a layout up by then, too! -Mike
Really beautiful layout that club has - many thanks for sharing! Also made me subscribe to your channel for more stuff like that and to see the progress on your own layout.
Hello! Thank you for watching! I’ve been at work behind the scenes planning everything out. I’m excited to narrow down some plans and share them with everyone- and finally get to work! -Mike
Excellent video. Good to see so many young ones involved I need to make a trip over to Springfield at some point and check out this club. On another note, if youre rolling new paint on the walls, you can save some time later buy painting sky blue now. Thats what I did with my new building.
Thank you! It was a fun afternoon. I always work evening hours when they normally meet- otherwise I’d love to join them. I had a decent sky blue color on the previous version of the layout, but I may shoot for something even a little lighter. I plan on making and using some photo backdrops this time around. So, I’ll probably have to play around with different shades to see what best matches those for the overall background.
I sure appreciate that! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and it's great to have you join us. As you saw, we are in an in-between phase as I get ready to build the new layout. I'll have a lot of new videos coming out soon! -Mike
Hello! Yes, those little projects can add up in the way of time and brain power! I am trying some new things with my trackwork this go around. I have found that Peco flextrack is constructed in a way that allows you to push the ties back some- and pull them back into place without disconnecting from the rails. That has helped cut down on how many ties I have to cut out and replace. So far, so good! -Mike
Thanks for watching, Tom! What would the closest club be to Jeff City? I was part of one in Sedalia when I was a kid. But, that was in the early 90s and I’m not sure what became of it. -Mike
Hi, Zack! I sure appreciate you guys watching! Yes, the Katy had 61 GP40s on its roster over the years- according to the details I have. That’s quite a few! The Katy had more GP40s than any other diesel make/model.
So I live in the NW part of Arkansas and trying to get into model railroading seriously and can't seem to find any of the Arkansas and Missouri Locos anywhere. Will I just need to make it custom? Also great channel by the way!
Hello! Thank you…I appreciate you watching. The A&M is a really cool railroad. I have taken several excursion trains along the route over the years. I do believe Atlas has produced some AM units in the past. I don’t recall when those came out, but it has been several years. The A&M seems to have quite a little following amongst modelers.
Today question: How long have you been working on your currently train layout?
My second time helping out happy to meet you there.

Fantastic video Mike! Thanks for coming out and putting this together!
You bet…thanks you, Jonah! You did an awesome job helping tell the story of the club and layout! -Mike
I did the same thing when I moved in. I took the time to install drywall, drop ceiling and vinyl plank flooring before I began erecting bench work.

I get the tedious part. Right now I'm gluing in ties where the flex track has been connected.
