The first one about the charging port: a lot of countries, especially east Asia, the parking space is so tight I could only back it up. Then the charging port in the front will be a big issue.
it's a shame the vehicle doesn't let you flip up the rear window, the way a three series touring will do. That would let you get into the back even while you were backed up close to a charging point. On our 320, it is wonderful for being able to throw stuff on top of a fairly full boot, and to get in and out while you have a bike rack on the back. Presumably it was cut for cost saving again
Actually, there is another limitation of having a rear charging port-when you do have things like bicycles on the back, you are going to have a hard time reversing. It would be even worse if you had a trailer because you would actually have to unhook before parking then leave the trailer "somewhere" until the vehicle was charged
It all depends on the perspective. For example the rear camera washer is something really useful, that very few cars have. Sure, if you could operate it separately it would be even better, but it's still nice to have it at all. The frunk, sure it's nice to have, but since there is an underfloor space in the trunk for the charging cables, it's not that big of an issue. Some electric cars (EQA for example) have much smaller trunk volume and no underfloor space for the cables. Concerning the folding seats, sure the old generation had a release tab in the trunk, but the bright side is that the car has actually a 40:20:40 split, no matter how you operate it. A lot of cars only have a 60:40 or even no folding seats at all, so it's still a very useful feature. On the armrest side, with a very deep storage space, you would never use the things on the bottom anyway, because they are difficult to access. You would end up just using the stuff stored on the top in most circumstances. With an open bottom section you could easily throw your wallet or other small items there and have them easily accessible. Less privacy but more accessibility. As for the charging port a longer cable should do the trick and allow you to park with the front of the car facing the wall.
It´s all a matter of personal opinions and taste. I am objective and point on things that could have been solved in a better way according to my. But I still think it's a great car 🙂
Also, no rotary iDrive controller and it’s frustrating for RHD countries that the central console stays as the LHD layout with the arm rest cover opening the wrong way.
I personally see no need for a rotary controller as the voice control function works brilliantly for me, and I gather, according to BMW, that this will gradually become the standard in all cars. Re the rotary controller you still need to take yr eye off the road. That you don’t with the voice control function. Re the arm rest. Wait until the plastic caps of those nozzles are lost or stolen... especially on cars that don't have those caps flush with the body of the car. They're more of a nuisance than anything. Much better without them in my mind (from a reliability perspective of course).
@@gigelio I miss the real little headlight wipers on my Volvo 960 wagon. :( never had a problem with them, except with the wiper blade needed replacing.
I would swap your first issue with the fact you can’t flip up the rear wiper when cleaning it! I can’t believe that this is the case. Personally we charge virtually all the time at home so it’s more convenient to reverse on the drive and have the charge port there.
Hello, you had owned several cars and some of them were quite expensive. What was the reason for choosing the iX1? And how would you compare it to the i4 (not counting the quality of the seats)?
I liked the design and it was a good size for my needs. Have owned several BMW so thought it should be a good choice and ordered it as soon as it was presented so I had no chance to see it. The quality is really not up to normal BMW standard as I see it. Normal BMW standard starts from the 3-series according to me.
I completely agree about the centre consol and the awkward room underneath the arm rest. The solution on the Skoda Enyaq is much better. Regarding the charging cabels, I think storing them in the side room in the luggage room would do OK. Agree on the folding of rear seats, but on the very positive side is 40/20/40. Regarding cleaning of rear view camera. Skoda Enyaq has the same, but there you cannot control the amount of fluid at all, much better on iX1, as you can just give it a squirt when nessesary.
The charging port on the back is great. Why? Because most of the factory parking spaces and DOD rules mandate that cars are parked with the nose towards the road (safety for emergency leaving the area). Bmw understood this and it is great.
You maybe need to take in count, your are driving a car what is built on a shared plattform with diesel and hybrid cars. That's the reason why the charging port is at the same place where the other cars have their tank nozzle. PS: even your i3 had that - and it was not built on a diesel plattform. The one, two or no flap is not a question of convenience. It's a question of protection of the DC port when using AC only. Water, durt, snow etc could enter the DC port when left open during AC charing. The camera cleaning follows a logic - you want to see better backwards - you need cleaned window and cam. :) - I was aware of all the "annoying" things when I ordered my iX1 in September last year. Still looking forward to get it.
The new X1 has the port in the front so it’s not a problem with the platform. I had an Audi E-Tron RS GT and they solved it with only one port so it’s possible. I also enjoy my iX1 so you will have a great car to look forward to but things can always be done in more or less good ways 😊
Thanks for the video! I agree with all the annoying features! My x1 (older model) backseats also don’t go back to the original position when you lift them up, instead, you have to pull on the strap and push the chairs back in position!😢 I thought the Trunk latch came with the car but was later told that’s only available in X3😮. This feature should be on all base models! Hope BMW sees this video and improves the features!
Agree that 4 of these would represented minor improvements but certainly not deal-breakers. I’m not sure what you mean about the charging point. Like you, I’ve had two i3s, so my charging port at home is positioned near to the back right of the car position when parked so I’m glad that BMW continued with the same charging port position on the iX1. Also, best practice is always reverse parking, which is safer, affording better manoeuvrability & pedestrian visibility on the way in and better pedestrian visibility & speed of exit on the way out. The only time I front park is if I cannot get necessary boot access when rear parking.
In the X1 (F48), which was built until last year, you could easily fold the back seats from the trunk. It seems BMW had to save money in a 55.000€+ car...
I wonder if some ingenious after market company has figured out a remote release from the trunk? All that would be required is running a bicycle brake cable for manual, or small servo motor for electric?
Can you get the drive recorder on the iX1? It needs to be able to record at all times in case of a crash which is why the camera is not hidden behind the badge.
But if it’s always dirty it’s not much use either 😊. I talked to Henrik Fisker about this and they have designed the airflow so the rear camera don’t get dirty so easy.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I like this car very much. It is the number one EV for me. I think that the perfect car doesn't exists. There is always something that could be different or better. It is a matter of personal opinion. What is annoying for me is the range. Agree (with the exception of one of your points) they range from being bothersome to being irritating. Particularly, the position of the charging port has not been well thought out. As regards folding the backs of the rear seats I can't really see what they could have done otherwise (apart from making it electronically actuated). If you are sitting in one of the rear seats and you want to adjust the inclination of the back of the seat then the position of that strap is ideal. On the other hand wanting to fold the back forwards in order to increase the luggage compartment, I can see that it becomes difficult....but as I personally have no need for that and have a family to accommodate I'm quite happy with the way it has been arranged.

@swede365 protectionfrom rain. Please do a range test on your car sir. I'm keen on this car but would be interested in the range. Thank you.
It worked fine also in rain. They had integrated all sealing in the outer flap design.
I have already made a shorts with winter range test. th-cam.com/users/shortsGXQhtkor9wQ?feature=share
