      There is nothing wrong with 720, infact all the TV networks such as ABC, FOX, ESPN and A&E use only 720p.

      pie189 you sound like a very smart guy let me ask you a question - i shoot a video at 30 fps and i add like 3 extra clips that i shoot at 60 fps slow motion now for the best quality how or which would be the right way to render this video?

      KOKOLISO HD if you're slowing down the 60fps video by half, then render the whole thing to 30fps

  • @filmriot
    @filmriot  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @voelkerb A few reasons. 1) the episode was shot edited and delivered in one day. 2) The shots aren't graded, just a preset applied. 3) compression. We show off the quality that the EPIC can achieve in the short film we are shooting with it.

    Anyone here in 2019 looking up old reviews for these cameras now that they are somewhat affordable? lol Yea, you can't see the difference much between 24fps and 48fps at the rendered video at 720p. Seems like Film Riot should have known that back then but hey, hindsight being 20/20 and all The Hobbit at 48fps looked way too much like the video smoothing everyone has hated for years. It's just not the cinema 'look'. The slow motion shots in this video really sold the camera though. The type of slow-mo in this video is slo-mo done right. Soooooooooo many movies screw up slo-mo and I don't understand how they don't catch that in post. You know, the shots that are slow but seem like they have less frames? Oh well. Great review. I think these cameras are awesome!

    I got to use this bad boy last weekend. It's such an amazing camera, so much heavier than I expected considering the size. Our kit included some nice Zeiss CP.2s as well which are very nice lenses, I would love to own a set for my 7D. I was definitely felt like a kid in a toy store haha.

    Ryan...Thank you so much for bringing us this channel! I am super excited to see what you have in store next. I am curious about your audio production though, as I have noticed quite a bit of heavy clipping throughout some of your recent casts. I have more of an audio background than video, so any pointers to problems experienced with audio during pre or post would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for what you and your team are doing. I am really excited for you!

    5-start principal photography & scene recording
    6- Post production/editing
    7-look 4 a film distributing company
    8-get a lawyer
    10- market your film
    11- let it be a straight to dvd film

RED is not for people that works in mcdonals or burguer King even if you got the Cash to affort one you need to spend in Glass another piggie braker and when you got it all completed them you need the knowleage of how to get the best of it....lol i thnk if anyone wants 4k your best bet is a GOPRO lol...peace my brother and sister in film.

    They were only comparing the frame rate the footage was shot at, not what it's uploaded at, because it doesn't matter what you do to footage in post, the "look" of the frame rate you shot at will stay the same, you can't actually change the frame rate. The camera takes 30 stills in 1 seconds, there's no way you can change that in post.

    @Conspiracy52 actually it apparently will. The EPIC and other cameras like it are pretty much exactly the same, and unlike prosumer cameras there aren't special features inside the camera
    everything is the internal awesomeness like the sensor, the massive resolution, and the color space.
    so cameras like this are not only really similar but using them is extremely easy... although tech support is reserved for pros only and is really important.

    @KoltMekka most probably they are exporting at 60p, or yes at 30p so there is not really any point them showing us different frame rates since when they rendered the different footage together the program would have used frame blending to fill in the gaps that were left with odd frame rates.

    It's because youtube is the largest video hosting website there is. They compress every video to not only save their servers and some money (because most people will never know the difference), but also to keep the buffer speed unanimous from video to video. If someone uploaded a 3gig video at 60fps, it would load significantly slower than most other videos if it wasn't compressed.

  • @Theelephantsays
    @Theelephantsays 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @sevenoh9 of course it does't slow it. It does some sort of conversion to drop the extra frames.

  • @acf2802
    @acf2802 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The relevance of higher frame rates is for the feel of their motion, it has nothing to do with shutter speed. If you don't understand this you must have never seen 48p or 60p played back properly.

  • @Bertziethegreat
    @Bertziethegreat 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The biggest issue with using hire frame rates is its affect on motion blur, which is also directly affected by shutter speed. Assuming you apply the 180 degree shutter rule for both 24p and 48p, 48p is going to have much less motion blur than 24p which will make it feel much smoother. No one is shooting 48p at 1/48th shutter speed. TH-cams frame rate does not transcode the video from the original frame rate. If it did, the 24p would be sped up, the 48p slowed down. So your argument is invalid.

  • @iSOBigD
    @iSOBigD 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @xremdog29x It's actually not bad. "To get 300 FPS you must drop to 2K and an aspect ratio of 2.4:1" That's way better than I expected! Pretty crazy camera, that's getting close to Phantom HD territory.

    @Conspiracy52 $58K is for the EPIC M package. The EPIC X is $25K for the brain. for the minimal setup he had there would be under $5K but you obviously want all the accessories for a shooting package. Hardly anyone buys expensive glass, you hire it when you need it, although you can get some nice rehoused glass or put some stills glass on there like Canon L-Series. A full shooting EPIC will be less than a basic Alexa. Considering you can own what the biggest budgets are using, its a bargain.

  • @SkyBums
    @SkyBums 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @iSOBigD i think its 1080p, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is limited to 720p since the file sizes would be monstrous enough with 720... ie 1 minute of footage taking up a full red ssd, which if im not mistaken is 16 gig. check the website as it shows all the stats.

  • @gatler05
    @gatler05 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @voelkerb You never worked with one have you? When editing, they compressed it to a resolution lower than what they recorded with so therefore it was compressed and their color correction is fine.

    @LukasDJackson 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    That footage is so AWESOMLY AWESOME !!!!!!

  • @KMStudio88
    @KMStudio88 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    In short....1080p = 1920 X 1080....OR.....1920 horizontal pixels X 1080 vertical pixels (just shy of 2K).
    4K = 3840 X 2160
    5K = 5120 X 2700
    Its a MUCH higher resolution within the picture that you are seeing. Which means you can blow it up on a much bigger screen without losing any resolution.

    @gatler05 No, I have never worked with RED footage, but it sure look lousy on this episode since it was not color corrected. If you think this whole episode's color correction/grading is fine, then you have low standards. There are hundreds of excellent color corrected footage on both TH-cam and Vimeo. Filmriot, however, did a good job on RED footage they put out today though.

    @SpecialFxKid I got a small video company, but now a client has asked us to make a feature film, which is like the most amazing thing ever. I get that you look up to Brandon and Freddie, but they also made a commercial for Battlefield, they are also planning on making a feature film using Kickstarter. I guess when you're young you can think about just doing what you like. But eventually you should want to turn that into something you can make money with.

  • @Studio595
    @Studio595 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheCrushMedia Phantom is inherently flawed with their sensor design. Their base ASA is in the range of 50-100 while RED's is base ASA is 800. So RED's sensor is much more light sensitive, however cannot do the insane speeds that the phantom can.

  • @Neilx14
    @Neilx14 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for clearing that up! I'd be guessing they would allow videos with less than 30fps and not adjust it to their preference. If it exceeds, then that's where they employ the limit.

    Peter Jackson bought 48 Red Epics at $56,000.00 a piece. James Cameron bought 50 of them at $58,000.00 a piece. His cost more than Peter Jackson's because he had special hand tooling done to them. James Cameron won't tell what he's using the 50 for. Some are speculating it's only for Avatar 2. But most of the wok in that film will be in computer animation not in shooting. Others say he is working on a new, innovative film that will change the industry the way Titanic, and Avatar, did,

    You still not understand me.This guy has recorded at 48 fps, but was rendered 24 fps and sent to youtube. Record a something in the 30 and 300 fps and render at 25 fps and you will see the difference.And those 300 fps does not mean "slow motion" ,just real time.This means that these 300 frames will be "squeezed" to 25 and the video will be smoother.

    TH-cam only being able to playback at 30FPS is irrelevant. The difference is in how how much information the camera picks up in 48FPS which can be seen when played back at 30FPS.

    4K doesn't necessarily mean REAL cinema movies. 4K is basically the quality of a video. 5K in definition takes in a lot more information (hence the bigger gulps of precious megabytes it takes per second), 4K takes a lot less, and the list goes on til' you get to the average 360 and 240p. A 10 minute video of 240p should give you about 4-5mb. A 4K counterpart would go as much as 3-5GB due to the information.
    I might be giving false file sizes, but in a nutshell it should give you similar figures

    if i'm not mistaken, youtube only supports 25fps, 30fps and 29.97fps. if it's not one of those, it will be converted.
    Basically, you can't watch 48fps footage on youtube.

    Re-watching this to learn how to use the epic for my FIRST Epic shoot.. epic.

  • @Numaltar
    @Numaltar 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Numaltar yep, this video runs at 29.97, so yeah.. not exactly a good way to compare 24 and 48.
    Also, i don't get it. there's really no need to have a red camera to see what 48fps look like.
    You just need a camera that shoots at 50i, deinterlace the footage and you'll get 50p, just 2fps more than 48p.

    @DigiBlabfilms it's the same as 1080p, however since it's a K it's in fact a thousand... so instead of saying you're shooting 4000p, you just say, 4k, which is the same thing... basically, almost 4x the resolution from 1080p,.. 4k, I think is the standard cinema resolution they project on the theaters...

    That slow motion was very impressive, although sadly, I don't think I'm likely to be able to afford a Red Epic to get the same kind of silky smooth quality.
    I wasn't impressed with the 48fps though, even taking into account that TH-cam doesn't show 48fps.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but how can you show the difference between 24fps and 48fps if they're both conformed as real time in a 24fps video? The difference is motion blur? If you want less motion blur then why not increase the shutter speed? On most digital cameras the shutter speed is going to be double the frame rate unless you manually change it. Faster frame rate = faster shutter speed = less motion blur. I don't think motion blur is why you would choose 48fps over 24fps.

    @Conspiracy52 I'm saying this in a hypothetical statement where you have the money and the urge to switch, the process wouldn't be difficult physically or mentally, but you are right, in the real world spending a 10's of thousands of dollars on the alexa and it's gear then trying to switch to the RED is really gonna wreck your bank account.

    That's strange... perhaps youtube formatted the video to be in the same fps? or something else happened? because 48 fps looked very similar to 24, and I know you mentioned it, but I usually get annoyed with 30 fps, let alone 48.

    I have to admit that Red cameras look great. But I still love 35mm film and I don't want to see how D-Cinema is replacing film
