    Congrats. Only problem is that RED doesn't service or sell any parts for DSMC1 bodies. If anything happens you end up with a brick. I'm really pissed at RED for abandoning their customers. A 10 year old Arri Alexa EV is still serviced by ARRI and you can buy any part for it from ARRI. I hope you got the RED cheap and I hope it serves you flawlessly for many years. Cheers!

      Yeah I've heard about that... hopefully I don't run into anything. Definitely got it for a steal, just under $9k - that's awesome about Arri I did not know that!

    I’m rooting for you bro 😎 high end commercial work unfortunately does require higher end tools. Not to get the job done, because we all know a small mirrorless/DSLR can get the job done, but it’s more about business presentation. Walk onto the filming location with a RED vs an EOSR put clients at ease, as well as you as the Dir/DP as well. It gives you this false sense of notoriety, which sounds bad when just said openly on the surface, but for some reason people just move with more of a purpose when you look the part. Which in turn can produce a more polished end result.

      I was definitely considering it! But since that is such a highly awaited camera, I probably wouldn't be able to get ahold of it until mid-next year - a little longer than I could wait. Also, the Red Epic Dragon for $8.8k was the better deal [even though it is an older model] since the original price point was around $25k. Thanks!!

    I'm kind of surprised you didn't wait for the R5. Serious question: what can the RED do tbat your Canon can't? I know Parker Wallbeck has a red but still mostly shoots on his 1dxii

    • @JustinRomeyn
      @JustinRomeyn  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The R5 will definitely be a beast of a camera! Might even be upgrading my 1DXii to get the R5. But definitely needed to add a cinema camera in the line up to increase the quality of videos I can produce for commercials/films etc. For instance my Red can shooting up to 22 stops of Dynamic range with HDRx enabled, as well as RAW 16 bit color. Plus they are built for shooting pro video, so if I want to compete with higher-end DP's, I needed to be "playing in the same field" essentially

    • @davidunoi7099
      @davidunoi7099 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @JustinRomeyn
      @JustinRomeyn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awesome! Yes any RED around 5-8k if it is in good shape is a great place to start. That's what I'm doing, starting with DSMC1 brains and will eventually upgrade I'm sure.

    • @coreyandolina5392
      @coreyandolina5392 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m kinda in the same boat. I had the canon c100 Mark II which was an awesome all around camera, and this year I started getting way more music video gigs and I wanted to upgrade for something with more high dynamic range and more flexibility in post. My budget is also 5k but I’m just worried about reliability with the Red MX’s. I do have to say currently having a c200 on loan, the raw looks beautiful and similar to the Red Epic but I still can’t make up my mind on what I want lol.

    • @nicholasboule5134
      @nicholasboule5134 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the scarlet is kinda old crap sensor now especially the 4k, unless you got ppl who say we only want our work shot on reds then just get a BMD ursa mini pro or even a pocket 6k. if you go watch reviews vs the scarlet you will see BMD is superior image and much less problems than REDs especially old ones

    • @tapuwamhlanga4973
      @tapuwamhlanga4973 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@coreyandolina5392 hahaha, trust me the RED Scarlet/Epic MX image is quite good although it's an old sensor as compared to the 6k Dragon sensor, my thoughts are maybe to hold on and save a bit for money jump on to the Red Raven, that way you will have fewer reliability issues and technical support is available, I'm also having troubles in making up my mind whether I should just drop the scarlet and move to a new camera like the raven but if I'm to dump the Red idea them a BMCC 6K will be a good one.
