PLEASE do some additional Bread songs! I highly suggest: Baby I’m a Want You, Make it With You, Guitar Man, and Everything I Own. Be sure to hit these ones, they’re really nice sounding songs, and were hits in the 70s. Lead singer is David Gates. But do the studio versions, not live, because studio version is what we all remember from the radio growing up! You can always compare it with a live version after first hearing the original :)
That was just another reason why the 70's were the GREATEST decade of musical creativity! Rock, Soft Rock, Prog Rock, Folk Rock, R&B, Funk, Disco, Country, Country Rock, Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Pop, Punk, New Wave, Rap!!! I know there's still a few more but you get the idea. It's so much fun watching you two experience all of it for the first time.
Marco Aguilar Absolutely! I lived the 70s with all of its glorious choices in music. Many people stuck with one genre at the time, but variety is the spice of life...so there were a bunch of different styles I clung to. My vinyl collection from back then is all over the place.
I haven't heard this in ages, but with those very first notes memory came rushing to me and I was instantly in tears. Missing my husband, he's been gone for over 15 years now. What a beautiful song.
My favorite song by Bread and a song worth checking out is "Everything I Own." For years, I thought it was a song David Gates had written about a breakup with a girlfriend. When I found out it was about the loss of his father, who died young, the lyrics took on a deeper meaning for me. It's really quite a moving song.
I grew up listening to the soft rock music of Bread in the 70's & had their albums. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "If", "Make It With You", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Everything I Own", "Diary", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "The Guitar Man", "Sweet Surrender" & "Aubrey". In 1978, Gates enjoyed success as a solo artist with the hit singles "Goodbye Girl" (from the movie The Goodbye Girl) & "Took The Last Train".
This was a huge hit in the ‘70s…it would come on the radio, and both parents and kids would stop and listen. Entrancing to everyone. Just an ethereal love song.
Not your regular love song. This was written for David Gates son right after he was born. Everything I own was written for Gates father who had passed away.
A few of Bread's best known songs: "Everything I Own", "Guitar Man", "Baby I'm A Want You", "Diary", "Aubrey", "Make It With You", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me"
My Mom used to sing this to us when my brothers and I were little boys in the late 70's and early 80's. I remember the trust. We trusted her with our souls, and we are now all over 40, and we still trust our Mama with our lives. In her eyes, and arms, we are still little boys. Our children trust her, our wives trust her, because she is Mama! Thanks!!!!
I love this song, it's SO 1970s and also just heartfelt and sincere in such a simple way (reminds me of Bob Dylan's Lay Lady Lay). I'd also recommend Diary, Everything I Own, and Make It With You.
As someone who has spent a lifetime of loving music (I'm 74 yrs old) you have enhanced and made this musical journey that much more wonderful and exciting. Thank You so very much for letting this "Ol" Grandpa be a part of your musical Family!!!!!. Much Happiness and Love to you and your little raskels!!.
“Everything I Own” was written after the death of his father, talking about his relationship with his father. I suggest that one next knowing that history.
I didn't know he wrote it for his dad. Oh, my goodness, that changes the complexion of the song completely. I always thought it was about some girl he'd lost, but knowing it was about it dad makes it so much more meaningful, and changes how I look at those lyrics. Wow... Thanks for telling that!
I love, everything I own by Bread. He wrote it for his dad who died, and I really relate because my dad died suddenly at the young age of 47. The lyrics perfectly describe the feeling of losing someone you love.
I would do Aubrey next. So dreamy, like "If". I've read that he wrote this about Audrey Hepburn, after watching Breakfast at Tiffany's, but changed the name so as not to cause problems.
Bread was my all-time favorite group as a teen and on… “I Want to Make it with You” was “our song” (my husband (boyfriend then). I can see him driving my ‘69 Mustang fastback, me sitting backwards in the passenger seat (no seatbelts in those days) , legs crossed, windows down, waist length straight hair blowing and Bread on the radio. Great memories! Great songs! Great band! My faves (I know some will come to mind later): Make it with you If Everything I own Freedom It don’t matter to me Sweet Surrender Baby I’m a want you The Guitar man
Honestly I don't know how you kept it together singing this song at your daughter's funeral. I tip my hat to you for having that much strength, and I'm so sorry you lost her.
👍😎 At your daughter’s funeral? I can’t imagine how much that hurt. I could barely hold it together for my parents funeral’s just speaking. 🎩 is tipping.
There are Way Too many songs to choose from! Bread's catalog of songs is one of my favorites. Make It With You. Everything I Own, Diary, Baby I'm-A Want You, It Don't Matter To Me, If, Aubrey, Lost Without Your Love, So many great songs, it's hard to choose just one!
The Rat's Cast I almost view Bread as a white version of the Stylistics, another awesome group from back then. Both offered that laid back, easy listening sound, although Bread's use of guitar is an outstanding feature of their work.
Bread was my favorite band as a child. My parents divorced when I was 5 and when I was 6 and 7, I used to listen to Bread, with their beautiful lyrics of love and I knew when I grew up, I'd have true love in my life. I'm so glad you did this. Bread is the name of the band and David Gates is the singer. I agree with the comments that you also need to react to Make it With You, Baby I'm a Want You, It Don't Matter to Me, Sweet Surrender, Everything I Own, Diary and Aubrey. Sidenote, the man who is capable of singing these beautiful songs, David Gates, was atypical of the bands of the time because he lived his life this way, being happily married to his wife for decades, probably over 50 years by now.
My sister had this played at her wedding in 1978, and I adored it at the age of 6. When I got married in 1998, I had this played. So beautiful, one of the best love songs ever.
Bread was HUGE in the 70's cranking out hit after hit such as, "If" "Make It With You" "Everything I own" "Diary" "Baby I'm A Want You" "It Don't Matter To Me" "Mother Freedom" "Let Your Love Go" "The Guitar Man" and "Sweet Surrender"
If you listen to "Everything I Own," it's worth knowing beforehand that it was written in memory of his father. It's one of those songs that could easily be interpreted as a post-breakup song but when you know what it's actually written about, it takes the emotion to a whole different level.
I'm so excited that y'all love his voice and music! He's David Gates and he has one of the most angelic voices you'll ever hear. I also thought J would like it too because David hits the high notes like he loves a singer to do! The next should be Everything I Own.. it's gorgeous. We took it as a love song back when it first came out and it is.. but it's a love song written for his Dad who had passed away. Two years ago we played it at our Dad's funeral. You'll love it. Thanks so much for bringing us back to our wonder years❣
If you listen closely to these lyrics, you are going to have tears. No way around it. If you didn't have tears, listen closely to it again for full efect.
"Everything I Own" should def be your next Bread reaction. Even though it could double as a post-breakup song, he actually wrote it in memory of his father, a fact which just takes the emotion of the song to a whole different level. LIVE VERSION: th-cam.com/video/AeadLurGR1U/w-d-xo.html
When I was younger, I had a voice. This was one of my father's favorite songs. I sang this to him, in the hospital, as he was dying. Listening to it always makes me feel as though he is right here with me.
J/Amber, you'll love their "Make It With You", "Everything I Own", "It Don’t Matter To Me" and many more!! David Gates- one of the great soft rock voices. For something more upbeat "Guitar Man"
Something that we have lost in the last few decades is the power of good music. Even classical can move us in our hearts to open our souls to new perspectives and cultures. We have forgotten that. Now music inspires hate and disruption and division and violence. You see this impact over the whole world. I miss the music of our past and all the rainbows that it brought to our lives. Every culture has inspiring music in the pasts. Let's bring that back and save our world.
Listening to Bread brings me back to my college days. I ended a 3 1/2 year relationship and it was tough. Not so tough on me because I knew he was not the one I wanted to spend my life with. The breakup was so hard on him though. He would call me and sing songs to me over the phone playing his guitar. The very last phone call I took from him he sang the Bread song Diary. It would be a great one to listen to if you haven’t. There’s quite a twist at the end of the song. I have been happily married to another for 47 years but Bread brings me back to that difficult time. Music is magical!
David Gates, the lead singer, has such a beautiful, ethereal voice. Other great songs are Everything I Own (written about his late father), Diary, and Aubrey. Anything by Bread is a wonderful treat!
Studio versions “Diary” “Everything I own” “Baby I’m a Want You” or a smidge harder and go for “Mother Freedom”. Honestly can’t go wrong with any of them. David Gates was smooth like Karen Carpenter!
David Gates and Bread sang so many beautiful songs-Try Everything I Own, Diary, Aubrey-you should check out some of their live performances. Great reaction!-Cloud music is a great description!
Bread is one of those bands that my wife and I share from high school.......Air Supply and Styx (especially Babe) are two others.........Sailing by Christopher Cross and Kenny Rogers' version of Lady are also songs we used to hear when we were parked, sitting in my car, making out, talking and listening to the radio........sweet, priceless memories!
This was played at our wedding, just music, back in the 80’s. I’m a rocker leaning towards heavy side, but even I couldn’t deny the beauty of this song when my wife suggested it.
Larry Knechtel was in Bread. Larry was one of the most recorded musicians to ever live and was in The Wrecking Crew with Leon Russell. Leon went to high school and had a band with David Gates Bread's lead singer. Larry received a Grammy for his beautiful piano on Bridge Over Troubled Water
This song came out the year I was born so I grew up with this song and it reminds me of my childhood. 50 years later and it still brings tears to my eyes
I love Bread. One of my favs from childhood. Try Diary or Aubrey. They have a greatest hits album that is just wonderful. They were definitely not a one hit wonder.
Bread is basically the lead singer, David Gates. The band is made up of studio pros that became his band and went on tour as a group. The bass player, Larry Knechtel, played the wah pedal guitar parts on Guitar Man and also played the famous piano parts for Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water. The entire group was phenomenal. Thank you for doing the video on them. You guys are great!
No. Gates was asked to produce a Robb Royer and Jimmy Griffin LP. Gates included some instrumentattion and a song he wrote and it was seen that they jelled well. That's when they decided to form a band. Knechtel and Mike Botts came on later LPs.
I love all their songs, though, "If", "Diary" and "Everything I Own" are my favorites. Thanks for sharing your joy and your genuine love of music with us. Love you guys!
Another perfect reaction for Bread! Yes, floating is the perfect description. I’ve even got my husband watching you guys, and that is really saying something! What a beautiful voice! ♥️The old white woman & her husband too!
As other commenters have stated, next song by Bread should be "Everything I Own." It's a song that still gives me goosebumps, and it's an emotionally charged song, too. You won't be disappointed! 🌞
Help me El Bailey, how bailey bailey. I was Blake Shelton with a trace at kins. I got a video hit Billy bones. You need to get hold of a hair bill bone
I saw the name of the video and HAD to listen. It has been so many years since I had heard "If." Takes me back to junior or senior year of high school. This song is dreamy. The only sadness is that I never found that special person for me.
To be a teen in the 70's was to be blessed. Love this
Very true! I spent my teenage years in the 1970s. 💚
Amen!
Agreed. I did my high school in the early 70s in a sweet town and the music was incredible. BREAD was a band.
hear, hear...
Verdade 😢😢😢😢
Bread is a band. All of their songs are this beautiful. Lead singer is David Gates.
You have to listen to Diary. It’s another song by Bread that I know you will love.
"If" is a slight cut above. One if the most beautiful love songs ever sung.
One of those classic high voices that were highlights of the 70s and 80s. This Oklahoma boy gave us heaven sent vocals every time he sang😊 a song.
I am a suckered for voices like David's.
I think he wrote all or most of songs
PLEASE do some additional Bread songs! I highly suggest: Baby I’m a Want You, Make it With You, Guitar Man, and Everything I Own. Be sure to hit these ones, they’re really nice sounding songs, and were hits in the 70s. Lead singer is David Gates. Oh yeah! Guitar Man! Loved that!
Guitar man! Yes!
Totally agree! They should ALWAYS listen to the studio version first!
Love Guitar man!
Yes to all those Bread songs. But I’d also like to add my favorites Bread song “Aubrey.”
I seriously cant listen to this song without crying. Its the most beautiful song ever written ❤❤
I am the same
I so agree - one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It just reaches my soul.
Eu também chorei, lembrei de meu pai 😭😭😢😭😭
My late wife loved Bread and we played their music a lot, As a result their music has an emotional impact on me
This band is so underrated. Absolutely Great.
Absolutely
I don't think they've ever been under-rated for those of us brought up at the time, but we don't hear them much today
No, they were top of the charts 1970’s.
I heard their tunes every day on the radio as a kid.
"Everything I Own" he wrote for his father who had passed away. Its amazing.
Yes!
Everything I Own is a real tear jerker. Guitar Man is another beautiful song.
Listening to "Bread"?
You'll be sopping up them tears with a biscuit !
Tons of hits!!!!
Great stuff!!!
Too bad their career is toast.
@@barriekelley2241 Good one, but I don't agree lol.

Yep, name me another band in the last 30 YEARS WHO CAN MAKE music like this. you won't because you can't.
if you listen to this song without interruption, you are going to have tears.
Just mix in some late 60's with the 70's and you have it all.
I haven't heard this in ages, but with those very first notes memory came rushing to me and I was instantly in tears. Missing my husband, he's been gone for over 15 years now. What a beautiful song.
Love and respect and condolences from mine to yours🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
My condolences to you. I cried too!
My condolences. My wife passed away 7 years ago this month.
Me too
Ditto.
In my opinion this is the most beautiful song ever recorded.. a masterpiece.
Definitely one of the top 10 every made .
My favorite song by Bread and a song worth checking out is "Everything I Own." For years, I thought it was a song David Gates had written about a breakup with a girlfriend. Parker, Perfect comment, perfect.👍
One of the best comments I have read on TH-cam.
Agreed. "Everything I Own" still gives me goosebumps. Such an emotional song.
Everything I Own, this song came on the radio right after my mother died, literally the first thing I heard after her passing. Get the tissues out.
Awesome song, love Guitar Man and It Don’t Matter to Me as well
I grew up listening to the soft rock music of Bread in the 70's & had their albums. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. I always wondered if Karen Carpenter’s song about the guitar man that left her was the guitarist of Bread. 🤷🏻♀️
Don't forget David's big hit "Lost Without Your Love".
I think this was a shorter version of the song.
Great rundown! Every song is amazing...♡
Yez .. Theze in thiz lizt ☝☝
This was a huge hit in the ‘70s…it would come on the radio, and both parents and kids would stop and listen. Entrancing to everyone. Just an ethereal love song.
Well put... love your description.
True that
I remember DJs saying "here's the most beautiful love song ever written"
My Grandmother loved Bread. she had the greatest hits cassette and loved to listen. Miss her!
Not your regular love song. This was written for David Gates son right after he was born. Everything I own was written for Gates father who had passed away.
Not only his beautiful voice. The lyrics are pure, amazing poetry.
Absolutely
That's what they're missing.
The most beautiful love song written ❤
Lord, Bread was such a great group. Vocals were so recognizable.
This guy was the epitome of soft rock in the 70s.
A few of Bread's best known songs: "Everything I Own", "Guitar Man", "Baby I'm A Want You", "Diary", "Aubrey", "Make It With You", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me"
David Gates' "Goodbye Girl" is also amazing.

There is no one like Mama! ❤️
One of the top 5 most beautiful love songs of the 70's. Or, I might add, any decade.
"Baby I'ma Want You" is another great song by this incredible band.
I love this song, it's SO 1970s and also just heartfelt and sincere in such a simple way (reminds me of Bob Dylan's Lay Lady Lay). I'd also recommend Diary, Everything I Own, and Make It With You.
I love bread, and David gates voice is out of this world.best song for me is everything I own, a song about losing his father...
Such a beautiful song, by a hypnotic singer. Amber was right....he just makes you float away.
☁️☺️☁️
Bread is really what I'm really interested in, the song lyrics, the voice is really amazing, from time to time it's still amazing 👍❤️

David Gates voice is like no other. "EVERYTHING I OWN" is a must listen.
Listen to Sally. A MUST LISTEN!
Yes, it had so much emotion. Written after David's dad died
My favorite song of theirs. But I love so many.
Telly Savales had a number 1 hit with this in England.
Love Bread. My favorite is "Everything I Own" which David Gates wrote for his father that passed away.
Yesssss that song is so beautiful!
This song would be perfect for Rob, I think.
Exactly the best one to play next! And have a hanky!!!

Love Bread’s Greatest Hits, and “If” is my favorite of all their hits. Great, great song.
I was in high school from ‘71-‘75. I was definitely a nerd and loved Bread and other mellow singers. Glad you appreciate them too!
A great song played at a lot of weddings back then. Bread had some other hits. Diary, and Baby I'm A Want You are two that I remember.
Umm, The Guitar Man?
@@dh2392 Make it with you?

Me too. I was 19 when my dad died.
Definitely need to do “Diary” and “Aubrey”, but David Gates and the rest of Bread have so many fabulous hits that others have mentioned already.
I Wanna Make it With You.
But, I do love Aubrey
Don’t forget “THE GUITAR MAN”
Diary came to mind for me as well. Down the Bread rabbit hole we go! I wonder if they have done a whole rabbit hole on Credence?

Listening to Bread brings me back to my college days. I ended a 3 1/2 year relationship and it was tough. Not so tough on me because I knew he was not the one I wanted to spend my life with. The breakup was so hard on him though. He would call me and sing songs to me over the phone playing his guitar. The very last phone call I took from him he sang the Bread song Diary. It would be a great one to listen to if you haven’t. There’s quite a twist at the end of the song. I have been happily married to another for 47 years but Bread brings me back to that difficult time. Music is magical!
"Make It With You" is my favorite Bread song. And the singer David Gates had a hit with "The Goodbye Girl."
David Gates, the lead singer, has such a beautiful, ethereal voice. Other great songs are Everything I Own (written about his late father), Diary, and Aubrey. Anything by Bread is a wonderful treat!
The exact ones I'd recommend!
The staff of life!
Studio versions “Diary” “Everything I own” “Baby I’m a Want You” or a smidge harder and go for “Mother Freedom”. Honestly can’t go wrong with any of them. David Gates was smooth like Karen Carpenter!
YES, BOTH were ultimate storytellers and ultimate vocalists (not just great singers) who sang TO the listener not at them...
IF was the very first song my husband and I danced to at our wedding 20 years ago. It's my all time favorite song!
It’s good to see young “kids” enjoying the music of our high school and college years. 70’s baby!
The entire “Anthology of Bread” album is just as beautiful.
I can't get through "Everything I Own" without getting misty because it reminds me of my dad but it's such a beautiful song!!!
David Gates and Bread sang so many beautiful songs-Try Everything I Own, Diary, Aubrey-you should check out some of their live performances. Great reaction!-Cloud music is a great description!
Bread was my favorite band! I had every album. My other favorite band w as s Three Dog Nigh - who I saw in concert.
This is soooo true of me too!!! BREAD AND THREE DOG NIGHT!!!!!
biggest wedding song of the 70's
Perfectly timeless!
It always chilled me out
"Aubrey", "Diary" and "Guitar Man" are three tracks by Bread that you should experience.
Aubrey is a song that doesn't get nearly enough play, or credit. Such an amazing song!
Another band from the same era with a similar sound is “America “.
“A horse with no name” or “Tin Man” are great tunes by them!
Richard Weber I got into both America and Bread, but I honestly don't see them having similar styles of music.
America for sure!
@@jaycorby you said what I was going to. My first reaction was like, "similar?!?!?"

Bread was my first concert, they were so amazing. 2 weeks later I saw 3 Dog Night. You can't go wrong with any song from either of these bands.
Such an iconic part of my childhood, they had so many great emotion-stirring songs. I loved their songs Guitar Man and Aubrey a lot and still do.
I love all their songs, though, "If", "Diary" and "Everything I Own" are my favorites. Thanks for sharing your joy and your genuine love of music with us. Love you guys!
Bread is a band and pretty much every song they put out is a winner. Having said that, I think both of you would like GUITAR MAN! 🙌
"Diary" makes me cry every time I listen. Beautiful and heartbreaking.
Love this song, used to listen to it over and over again on my walkman, just aged myself. I was a teenager in the 60's, we had the best music ever.
Another perfect reaction for Bread! Yes, floating is the perfect description. I’ve even got my husband watching you guys, and that is really saying something! What a beautiful voice!
♥️The old white woman & her husband too!
Yeah, this is right up Amber's alley!
Bread is the epitome of soft rock. This was played at ALOT of weddings back in the day. Bread it date music!
As other commenters have stated, next song by Bread should be "Everything I Own." It's a song that still gives me goosebumps, and it's an emotionally charged song, too. You won't be disappointed! 🌞
This song still makes me happy cry. Good stuff forever!

I saw the name of the video and HAD to listen. It has been so many years since I had heard "If." Takes me back to junior or senior year of high school. This song is dreamy. The only sadness is that I never found that special person for me.
