I've got to give you credit on that A/C installation. It's a very clean installation, very functional, very efficient, very cost effective, and actually pretty nautical looking. It's way beyond the ones where people simply cut a hole in the boat and stick it through. Your heat removal and fresh air chambers and ducts and power system are top drawer. Nice job!

When you roll up the Naugahyde widow covers, you should tie them off with two small straps the same way it is done in tents (the two small straps are sewn on opposite sides of the edge of the cover). That would be easier than unclipping the cover and finding/sliding a ring around them. 2c

A very simple but nice upgrade I always do is swap out the water and fuel tank vents with stainless flush mounted ones. When you’re rafted against other boats, they tend to smash up the old style when you get waked. I would also swap all the bulbs in the nav light system with LED festoon bulbs (multi color cockpit lighting as well!).

Ah, Grand Lake 'O the Cherokees. My grandparents used to have a place there when I was a kid. I have a lot of fond memories on that lake. Hoovie is probably docked at Shangri La. I don't have a lot experience on that end of the lake though. We were closer to the highway 10 bridge. We were always hunting for skiing water near three fingers and Wilson point area, if I recall correctly.

    • @Drummin003
      @Drummin003 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, all of the "big" money is packed in and around the Shangri-La/Monkey Island area. Hudiburgs' place is up that way, a couple of family friends have houses up there. The guy that started Cobalt has a house on the point across from Arrowhead YC, and just north of Cherokee YC, down in the Duck Creek area. I've never been a fan of Grand because you have to have at least a 30ft boat for the ride across the middle of the lake to not be jarring, due to all of the 40+ft yachts/cruisers/house boats running back and forth at full tilt.

    A couple if tips....
Electric carving knife for cutting foam. Makes smooth straight cuts.
Get a snap tool kit... install snaps on opposite sides of your sunshades and snap them up and out of the way...if your rings don't work out for you. Also works on the curtains if the wind gets to blowing them around and you can snap them down, and no lurkers peeping on you.
Oh, get the stainless steel snaps for corrosion resistant qualities.
RV surplus places have gas fridge for cheap....last for days on small 15-20lb tank.
Lastly for a/c ... if the old unit dies not work out....
Those portable room units for a couple hundred bucks are great. Uses little power cools large area and comes in a kit with exhaust hoses and panels and such.
My brother and I did his boat a few years ago and it was awesome.
The a/c lasted several hours off a standard car battery and when he upped the batteries and size it lasted .... I think, 6 hours and indefinite with the engines running. The ladies loves getting in the cabin on those 95° days on the river when cruising.
    Just my 2 cents...

If you contour that little shelf to fit the shape of the rear of the coffee maker, you can slide it back an inch or so, it’ll help keep the coffe maker from moving around in choppy weather AND it will clear the stove insert so you can open the stove to turn on the AC fan without spilling any coffee that’s still in it.

Here are some of the proper boating terms:
    2:16 chart plotter
    2:32 depth finder/ sounder
5:08 is that connected to the open bilge? Splashy splashy, charger go boom + humidity. It should be mounted in the cabin IMO. It will be annoying with the buzzing.
    2:43 ground, not beach
Install a red dome light in the helm to preserve night vision.
You're gonna have to probably pull the porthole/ window & windshield frames out and reseal them.
For hull fittings, 3m 5200 will be your new best friend. Check all through hull fittings and seacocks and reseal. Also main drain.
8:47 next time use an electric turkey carving knife.
Your outboard appears to have a vertical hydraulic engine lift, if so that's awesome for shallow water and getting to good fishing holes.
Boat is in great shape for the age, "freshwater queen"
    Marine ice makers always break.
If you buy a inboard AC unit, don't get the baseline Dometic units, they moved manufacturing to Mexico, I got 2 defective units in a row, they finally upgraded me to the turbo unit line.
Wanna buy my 1996 50ft carver CPMY, 1,100 hours. Lol.

The Bayliner is a nice boat. Very stable and if I recall they ride up high and are not too bad in shallower water. I'm still looking forward to seeing the other boat finished though. That old girl is sweet.
The curtain rings were a great idea!

I assume that the starting battery and the "house" battery are on a split charge relay. The beat way of cutting any foam is with an electric carving knife.

Dear Mrs Wizard, my wife and I have had to cut memory foam and we used an electric knife, cuts really well, and if you use a blue colour light in the bathroom at night it doesn't blind you and you'll be able to see👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘

A/C suggestion - have the vent from the cabin blow into the cockpit where the captain and 1st Mate will be sat, as opposed to a random exhaust somewhere!

If you don't like the rough edges on the foam from the serrated knife, I've had good success using a very thin blade Japanese kitchen knife (Nakiri) to cut foam. It needs to be razor sharp, though, and I have to touch it up with a strop in between cuts. But it does cut like butter if you sharpen it right.

Mrs. Wizard I've been there with the back pain. I highly recommend a chiropractor. It took a bit to get aligned, but now I go for a tune-up once a month. Best money I have ever spent.

The biggest problem with the boat is that it says 'Bayliner' on the side. They have a bad reputation as being low quality and unable to take a pounding, particularly the older ones.
