I watched this video and cried-a cry of release, of catharsis, of love for the broken road to get here. Allie created this documentary using just a few videos and podcast clips--what an artist! I am so in awe of her art and storytelling, and I’m so thankful for her friendship. 20 years from now, her video is how I want to remember this experience. Allie captured it in a way that I didn’t fully process until those tears started flowing. Thank you all for your love and support!
congratulations, you are an inspiration to those of us who run for ourselves, you are inspiration for changing the narrative about LSD (to a degree) with your shorter harder training efforts, and you are a blessing to watch and read as a man, husband and father. Oh, and congratulations on winning and setting a record at Leadville. would love to buy you a pizza if you are up for it. I live in Westminster. Cheers to all. (P.S. Posted this accidentally on Allie's site).
allie, the fact that you chose to take the time to make a video dedicated to David and his victory when no one would've expected you to speaks volumes about your character, david's character, and the relationship that y'all have built over his time coaching you. Y'all are such bright lights in this sport. I can't wait to see more from this dynamic duo
Allie, I am almost positive this is the first video of yours that I have seen where you told someone else's story. You did an incredible job, from the editing, to the story telling, to the narration. The video is so well done. It feels like your background is documentary filmmaking and not running. Bravo! ❤❤
Literally don’t know any of you all personally and have only met David a couple of times as we ran by each other and this video is making my heart full of joy and tears. Thanks for making this.
I know he’s your coach. You obviously have respect for him. I LOVE that you made a video on your channel about someone else and gave them the accolades that they deserve for such an amazing athletic achievement.
Kara and Nate mentioned in their last video that David Roche won the Leadville 100 that Nate was training for, but I didn't realize it was your coach! He does seem like such a wonderful, supportive, uplifting person, so I'm thrilled that he reached his goal!🏆
I never really could relate to people who run those crazy ultra races past a marathon's race distance, but this was some incredible storytelling that helped me understand and appreciate it more. What a beautiful video about your coach. I can see the love and appreciation you put into this one. Congratulations David!
I met David and Megan on the Buckingham / Left Hand Canyon trail system; they are the nicest folks you'll meet. Very happy that that they achieved this generational result.
Very nice homage to Coach David. He is every bit the inspiration that you are. You two make a stellar team, and together, you two will accomplish great things.
I volunteered at the very first aid station at Leadville so I can hopefully run it next year. Watching David run this course record was so inspiring and amazing to witness. The backstory and storytelling in this video elevate our understanding even more of what David overcame and achieved. Thanks Allie!
omgg like why I cried?! I was so emotional the whole video. (and also wanted to say that he is so strong and brave that he never gave up on the things he likes the most) I love this video he is so inspiring ❤❤❤
Meeting David At WSER this year was so amazing. He has such a kind soul and was so open to talking to me and my mom even though we were just some randos, so happy to see him crushing records out there
Allie....that was an amazing, beautiful, and emotionally impactful video! Really, really well done. Ok, for your resume, we have professional runner, future Olympic team member, coffee packaging model, bakery store owner, and now, CEO of Allie's Awesome Video's! What David did was both epic and legendary. I have been to Leadville and climbed Mt. Elbert, even running at 14,000+ feet of elevation with a backpack. However, people don't know what it is like just doing 2 miles there, let alone 100, and of running uphill for countless miles with 12,000 feet of elevation gain. The day after climbing Elbert, and then almost not being able to leave the jacuzzi, as I was really wanting room service delivered to the jacuzzi (for which starvation was the only motivator to leave!), I had some rest and went out for 2 miles at 10,000 feet of elevation. I had basically acclimatized, although not like I would have from being there for 2-3 weeks. After 3/4 of a mile, I was wondering where is that stuff, ohh what is it called....Air! I thought I would easily run around 7:30 pace at 10,000 feet. Nope, it was 8:30, and after 2 miles, I was done...DUN, done! I get that people could live there and maybe eventually do regular long runs and not pass out, but doing a marathon, let alone a 100 mile run at that elevation is an entirely different deal, and then to run like David did....that has to be one of the greatest runs in the history of the sport. Huge, huge congratulations to David, who had an incredibly inspiring recovery. Running with one arm in a sling for countless miles at high elevation and for long distance....that shows great strength of mind. So, I guess if David ever retires, maybe Kipchoge will meet your criteria for being a pacer? Provided he doesn't slow down too much more! Allie...that was just a fantastic and heartfelt video. Just excellent, and I thank you for sharing. 👏👏👏
Fantastic and moving tribute! David Roche, and his team, at the top of ultra-distance running. His ability to transcend injury, his dedication to the sport, and his seeming joy inside the "pain cave" -- totally awesome!! A true inspiration!!!
Allie, what a gift you have as a narrator; as a storyteller! The story itself is great and David is an inspiration. But the magic of the narration brings it home!
I made it to the end before I started crying. Thank you, David, for the example you set for us all. And thank you, Allie, for creating this beautiful documentary!! 🫶🏻
Allie, I'm not only in awe of David's story and performance, but also of your ability as a film maker. I've been following David for years so I already knew his story, but that didn't stop me from being glued to every second of this beautifully put together video. I hope this is just the first of many from Allie Ostrander Productions! ❤👌👏
I loved how he balanced the plain fact that it is not about the competition and the time with the beauty of having a goal and a standard to aim for. The pure joy of running, the transcendence of the pain cave, somehow include the stopwatch. Imo. Great video, thanks!
Absolutely amazing! Congratulations David! I am currently training to do my second marathon. I fractured both femoral necks and have three screws in each side...I have done a lot more strength training and a lot less running! I am excited to take on the Chicago Marathon the beginning of October! I ran 4 half marathons this past year when my doctors told me I should never run more than a 5k again. I am happy I listened to my body and came up with a plan with a personal trainer to still make it to my goal!
This video is such an act of love and respect. Beautiful. Also, I gag at the taking in of those gels. That's almost the most impressive part. But he really does seem like such a nice guy.
The mental toughness to run that long, that hard at that elevation is just almost unbelievable. Thanks for the beautiful documentary Allie! You have an incredible coaching team!
I have my own, personal experience of being run over by a car at a crosswalk when I was in college, finishing out my senior year of track. The recovery was treacherous, mentally, physically & emotionally, but will never take away the love that I have for running. It is so amazing to see David overcome his own accident with love, not fear! This warmed my heart for the David, and helped me remember that we are not alone in my own painful experiences. Thank you so much for sharing David's story & congratulations to David on breaking the record with an amazing & inspirational race!
Such a beautiful video! David Roche is truly one of the nicest, most genuine person you could ever meet! Congratulations on a truly epic accomplishment! 👏
So well done Allie! Became aware of David through, of course, his leadville performance and the SWAP podcast and am so grateful for him and Megan, two amazing humans!!!!!
During that video where David was chilling while pacing Allie during that incredibly hard track session, I was already wondering what he could do when not running for anybody else. Didn't expect it to be this crazy though
Wow, Allie, what’s a beautiful video! So, so cool to watch this and see all the praise for David (and Megan) when they’re always the biggest champions of everyone else!
Thank you for sharing this and giving him the spotlight he deserves. He’s humble and spreads love to everyone else but you do an amazing job of giving that love back.
honestly the image of david trail running uphill in a cast is the perfect one for the kinda guy he is, and i really love how u wrapped up by making sure everyone knows just how awesome he is because he wouldn't himself, feel like its cool we kinda got to know him a bit before this entire story because he really is this guy in everyday life
Congratulations David all star Roche for 100 miles of pure beauty and magic!!!! Yay for solidarity in the running community, and yay for the running community to have such stellar role models like the one and only David Roche to look up to for excellence on the track/trail and in life!!!
Congratulations David! Determination, Science and Love to make the impossible, possible! Allie, this video is probably one of your best! Love it!!!!!!!!!!!
This is what I enjoy so much about the running community. We are all our best supporters and understand the time, dedication, and resilience it takes to accomplish these crazy goals. Thank you, Allie for your content that encourages us all to keep pushing forward.
An easy decision to hit the like button before this video is finished. This video and Allie’s narration are fantastic. Thank you for making it Allie (and David et al).
Thanks for showing that deep respect you have for David and telling us about a level of effort most common mortals can only dream of. You both are hero’s!
I love that you made this!! David has been such a blessing in your life and therefore in all of ours that are inspired by you. Great job and much love to all! ❤❤❤
Thank you for making this beautiful video! Have been so inspired by watching and reading about David's journey and win. Truly incredible. Happy that you have such a caring, supportive coach to accompany you.
Allie, I know very little about running or David, but through your videos you’ve made it so clear what an amazing and inspiring man he is, and it’s clear how much you care for and respect him. What a wonderful homage.
Nicely done, Allie. This is also a really great reminder that everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and we can strategize how to use those strengths to our advantage to meet our goals instead of wishing our weaknesses were different.
Allie. This is masterful storytelling. What a beautiful tribute. You have a gift of distilling so much raw content and giving us the most salient training theory points. But more than that, you told a story that was full of love. I found myself tearing up a few times. Truly, this is a great gift to the trail running community, and to David and Megan. Huzzah. 🙌
Congratulations, David! Beautiful example of resiliency. What an achievement. I bet you are following the Ride for Magnus’ efforts to make cycling safer and to bring justice to those hurt & the lives lost due to cycling incidents. I’m so glad you are recovering 💓
Great work on this Allie. It's a nice change in tempo and format of your usual vlog style videos. Nice to throw in the mix, but importantly, a lovely tribute to an extremely talented and good human being.
Allie, this video was brilliantly told, composed, and edited. Bravo. Both the star (David Roche) and the story telling (Allie) bring such humanity both to the sport and frankly to the human experience. Thank you so much for this!
it is amazing to me these record athletes (carpenter) sometimes look so gaunt/malnourished because they are obviously actually extremely healthy/fit to be able to do things like this. So inspirational! Looking forward to kara and nates video on running it too!
My God!! You had me bawling. I'm going to watch this again because the part about the calorie intake as strategy was fascinating and powerful. Thank you for creating this Allie & David.
Allie, you are such a great story teller. I've been enjoying your narrative voice for years now, and I could listen to you all day. David certainly deserves such a good video to celebrate his accomplishment. Thank you!
I watched this video and cried-a cry of release, of catharsis, of love for the broken road to get here. Allie created this documentary using just a few videos and podcast clips--what an artist! We all need a David Roche in our lives. Congrats!
This was amazing!
So beautiful Allie! You knocked this one out of the park.. as did David and his Crew. Congrats All Round!!
allie, the fact that you chose to take the time to make a video dedicated to David and his victory when no one would've expected you to speaks volumes about your character, david's character, and the relationship that y'all have built over his time coaching you. I agree!! I'm a big fan of Allie, transparency, authenticity and just so refreshing for an elite athlete. Thank you Alllie ❤
“Let’s see what happens when I’m stripped down to my core. Let’s see who I really am.” Love that!
Allie, I am almost positive this is the first video of yours that I have seen where you told someone else's story. You did an incredible job, from the editing, to the story telling, to the narration. Literally don’t know any of you all personally and have only met David a couple of times as we ran by each other and this video is making my heart full of joy and tears. Thanks for making this.
Look for a video where David & Allie run a hill course during altitude camp. Wait until you hear him coach!
I’ve seen it! I’ve followed them and their Some Work All Play podcast for years too. I highly recommend!
I love running by David, every time I have he's told me I'm amazing. It's you David, who is amazing.
I know he’s your coach. You obviously have respect for him.
I LOVE that you made a video on your channel about someone else and gave them the accolades that they deserve for such an amazing athletic achievement.
Recent ultra records and wins have shown that it's about the people. Not the sponsors, not the shoes, not the nutrition. It's the people.
Kara and Nate mentioned in their last video that David Roche won the Leadville 100 that Nate was training for, but I didn't realize it was your coach! He does seem like such a wonderful, supportive, uplifting person, so I'm thrilled that he reached his goal!🏆
I knew in the first minute this production would hit me right in the feels and I wasn’t wrong. Hats off, David, on a truly magnificent effort.
I never really could relate to people who run those crazy ultra races past a marathon's race distance, but this was some incredible storytelling that helped me understand and appreciate it more. This moved me to tears, there is something so beautiful about seeing some run from the heart.
Very nice homage to Coach David. He is every bit the inspiration that you are. You two make a stellar team, and together, you two will accomplish great things.
This video is a piece of art for runners and spiritual seekers. Thanks Allie!

I’m so happy for David. Couldn’t have been a more deserving win!
6:30 even stopping to give a quick fist bump. What a champ.
I love this so much. The Baby Leo fist bumps are the sweetest! beautiful video!
If there's one thing I love and admire- it's a plan that comes together...
Hat's off to David... a fabulous effort and achievement...
Beautiful, really beautiful Allie. All for a beautiful man. Well done.
Allie, you have given a big gift to all who are fortunate to view your small film. Thank you.
Oooh! Is this gonna be your side hustle? Smart, engaging sport documentaries? I’m so HERE for it. Please bring us more! ❤
This was beautifully put together, Allie! 🥹 Congrats, David!! 👏🏾
