- In this video I race the Headlands 30k trail race, part of the Golden Trail World Series. This was the fastest golden trail race ever, and arguably the deepest in American history! The times were super fast because of the less technical trails and the high level of competition! #AllieOstrander #Headlands30k #GoldenTrailSeries

Wow, 9th position in this highly competitive women’s field is absolutely astonishing. Congratulations. Your ability to compete on top level in such a variety of running disciplines is amazing.
Awh thank you so much!! It’s easy for me to get caught up in how I could improve and my ultimate goals, so this is great perspective 😊
Allie. I have a daughter who struggled with ED for many years after being a high level gymnast. Like you, she got the help she needed and today lives an amazing healthy life. Every time I see you and know of your background I burst with pride for both of you.
Here are two things I still say to her:
"Progress is rarely a straight line" and "I'm proud of you ... every ... single ... day."
Thank you for sharing this, and I’m so happy that your daughter is well 😊 what a warrior and inspiration!
Fans of Allie, I got to meet her at Headlands and can confirm she is as delightful, genuine and warm in real life as she is in her videos. Go Allie, rooting for you at Mammoth!
It's not dramatic, you're NOT being dramatic. It's one battle after the other and (personally) I'm exhausted and done. Props to your mental fortitude.
I remember that girl that used to run up mountains, that switched over to track. And that's who I see now that you are running trails again. It is a part of your roots. You got this.
“When things get hard, it’s because they’re meant to be hard; not because it isn’t what I’m meant to do” that’s an amazing quote allie
Your balanced approach to running and life is really inspiring. I took up triathlon last year at age 42. I'm in the back of the pack and I really don't care. I work hard, do my best, and that's more important than winning. Thanks for continuing to create post-Olympic content because there's so much more to life than the Olympics.
Wow Ally!! So proud of your progression and slaying the dragon that stands in front of you. Continue on that path of fortitude and for sure when you face another boss dragon, you’ll be able to ride it. Thank you for inspiring the me (still working through injuries) because I, too, will persevere and succeed.
You were definitely in beast mode... completely focused from the start gun through the cheer zone...up Cardiac...then passing four runners with that legendary Allie O punishing kick for a top 10 finish against an international field. It was epic to watch.
Allie, you are such an inspiration! I’m recovering from an ED and I’m also a runner. This past year, I’ve reduced my 5k PR by 4.5 minutes! I’m proud of you and I hope your running career continues to grow ❤️
I just started a couch to 5k program because of Allie. You're just a bundle of inspiration and thanks for sharing the struggles and the joys!
Another wonderful video. You always give me something to smile about. You have this great combination of a philosopher, a track guru, a psychologist and a stand up comic. Keep it up! You are inspiring.
Awesome race Allie!! I'm so proud of your hard work, and for never giving up!! Keep pushing and stay confident! Good luck at Mammoth Trailfest!
So glad you had fun Allie! I love trail running, so don’t want you to stop! You’re such a beautiful runner. I’d think I was an absolute goddess if I could do what you do! Keep going!
Allie, you are dazzling as a person and an athlete! Your transparency, insights and humility rival your talent and drive as an athlete. I almost feel bad to say talent because you have worked for every inch physically and mentally. Just getting started in trails and 9th at Headlands. Truly astonishing. Make no mistake, the fact that you have struggled with these thoughts and is exactly what makes you mentally tough, not the opposite. LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!❤❤
The first half of this feels like a new level of sharing, learning, and insights - the second half was full of awesome. Paper plate oatmeal & downhill sends LFG!
So happy for you Allie! Your progress is great!
I don’t know how you were able to walk after that race but I am so proud of you getting top ten. I started watching you when you had your first trail season and watched you pivot when you started training for this past steeple season and seeing you have the best season and have this start to another trail season is just som amazing and cool to watch. I hope you’ll qualify this Saturday for the championship.
9th!?!?!
I literally have tears in my eyes
Not sure you realize the impact you have on tens of thousands of people from all walks of life
Thank you ❤
Wow! Tough race! Strong effort, especially the mental challenge of coming back from a bad race. You will crush it this weekend!
I've been waiting for this video, and I am so proud of you! Let us fill you with confidence for Sunday. We believe in YOU!
Thank you for this message Allie. It's absolutely not dramatic and I want to thank you for showing me that even athletes like yourself performing at the top level sometimes struggle with self-belief. Honestly, I needed to hear that so much right now. The dragon I'm trying to slay right now is a comeback from serious illness... As a previously fit marathon runner with a PB of 3:12, I had a bowel perforation, I ended up having my colon removed in emergency surgery and I woke up in the critical care unit with an ileostomy. I took the surgery in my stride emotionally and made a really good recovery physically and, like you said about your eating disorder, I felt like my biggest battle was over at that point, but honestly by far the hardest part of it all has come now I'm fit enough to run again because I have that annoying runner's brain that makes me keep comparing myself to the old me and beating myself up because I'm not running as far or as fast as I could before, which is ridiculous because my comeback is only just getting started really. It's an emotional rollercoaster being a runner! I'm slowly learning to accept the new me and trying hard just to enjoy my running and see where my body takes me!
Congrats on your 9th place finish and thanks for another inspirational video - you are such an awesome runner and the vulnerability you show makes you at the same time seem even more awesome but also so relatable too. I'm so glad you are feeling more positive again. Good luck on Sunday!
Super effort Allie... and you're right about those Dragons... just as well you're the Queen Slayer... ;)
You’re amazing!! We love watching you run and have fun. Congratulations on 9th!!
I don't think you can underestimate the impact of the trials on you, the come down with a great race but still not quite getting 'the dream'...in this video I felt most for you having to drink bad coffee...lol...love the video/photo chase!....going down takes so much strength, incredible!...awesome result... bring on Mammoth! o and I think we can all relate to our own personal slay the dragon challenges...
Finish line smile said it all. Congrats Allie! 🎉
Great job!! I still don’t understand how u run this far, yet so fast!
This is so awesome Ms Allie😃 Great job and a super big congratulations. Be watching for your next race too😊
Congratulations Allie! The hard things in life are so much sweeter! I’ll be rooting for you on Sunday!
I can sooo relate to talking yourself off the ledge!!! Thank you for keeping it real and not sugar coating it because you are right - running is hard!!!
Well done and take care.
Allie if you can run hard and compete you deserve to be there, the biggest thing I always tell myself it’s the journey not the destination, you always seem to enjoy all of your training so much and that’s the point it gets you to the race but enjoy the race maybe it’s a little simple given the level of athlete you are, but we’re all cheering you on.
Progress, that's the only thing to focus, all part of the process. Good luck to you and the rest of team NNORMAL!
very Inspirational Allie, thanks for this, I am Struggling with the weather change, as it gets damp, and making me struggle on my daily 5k Run-Walks, the damp weather seems to close off my Lungs, and make it painfull, reasuring that even the best like Allie Ostrander can feel the pain and struggle along with us. Cheers and Thanks again
I was expecting you to say you had the potential to place top 20 not top 10. 9th is incredible! I know hearing encouragement from strangers on the internet only goes so far but you're doing great, especially with the weird start to the season. I've never been a runner nor will I probably ever be with the injuries I have but your drive and willingness to give everything your all is inspiring. I've definitely used it as motivation for my workouts. I'll be using it a lot this coming year with my ACL surgery and recovery. Good luck on your next race and can't wait to hear how it goes!
I appreciate encouragement, always! Thank you so much, and good luck with your ACL recovery 🤞🤗
Wow, congrats! I love how you tell your story, I m thrilled for you!!!
Just running. Looking good Allie! You definitely still got the juice. Us mere mortals can only admire you.
Smiling the whole time watching this video. AWESOME JOB ALLIE!!! Worlds here we (you) come!!!❤❤❤
Among all your demons... "was I too big for trail running?". You were in a deep spiral, weren't you? It's reassuring to know that someone of your caliber battles through the same gamut of doubts, nervousness and emotion as the rest of us variably less talented athletes. Congrats on fighting back from the 14th or 15th spot to finish 9th, a very successful outing. Good Luck this Sunday!
CONGRATS ! to you and elhousine ofc, it's always nice to see you having fun !
I love trail running but is incredibly tough physically and mentally. You did amazing. I would thrown up with that much effort. You endured the training and the race, you can handle the difficulty of life.
That was a great video that really connects on an emotional level, and you ran strong! Oh good Lord did you relate to me about the course map being, ohhh, what is the word I am searching for.....Fraudulent! When you are supposed to be flying downhill but are still slogging uphill and no idea of where the hill ends.
Many years ago I was trying to set a marathon PR at the Lost Dutchman Marathon outside of Phoenix in the Superstition Mountains, for which there is an incredible story of the Lost Dutchman Treasure, that might still be out there.
On the map, there was a significant uphill for mile 18 and about 2/3rds of mile 19, and then it was downhill all the way to the finish. I was well ahead of my PR pace, and after 18.5 miles there's still a lot of uphill. I am looking for the summit, but, just hill. I hit mile 19, and no downhill in sight, while my quads are just pounded.
Oh, btw, I don't quite have the cardio capacity and strength for hills, like this great trail runner I know, oh, what is her name...Allie! On a marathon to have an inch more of uphill from what is on the course map is not acceptable at all!
Mile 19 was all uphill, and there was a reasonable amount of profanity I was exchanging with my bud, and then came mile 20; still running uphill, and thoughts of a PR were crushed. Finally, after another 1/2 mile, there was downhill, and I thought ok, good to the end, lets suck it up and run on my quads that were like a Smashburger. Then, boom, more uphill on mile 21with uphill on parts of the remaining miles, and to add insult to literal injury, even the last .2 of the marathon was uphill.
I was so cheesed at whomever did that course map, as I would never have driven to Arizona with my bud to run uphill most of the last 8 miles of the marathon. If I want to run uphill...well, I do that every weekend at Red Rock Canyon (if you and Spencer ever come to Vegas, that is a pretty spectacular place, I believe the 4th most visited national park).
So, your video brought back a memory, however, you were awesome! Have a great race in a few days, as you are really, really strong, with body, heart, and mind!
Way to GO! great video. Rooting for you on Sunday.
Amazing job, Allie!! Well done 👏🏻 ❤
Well done! Keep it up! - From down the road in Colorado Springs
Great work! So excited for you!
Awesome job Allie!!! Your so awesome I can't believe you can of things like this!!
Amazing Allie! Well done 🙌💪
Ummm not flashy?!! Allie you finished 1 min 30 sec behind OCC champion Miao Yao!! So impressive!
Nice video, good experience, keep it going Allie.
What you talked about was so profound and true as runners i think we all have those thoughts but you sharing them is so brave of you but you did great and you should be so proud of your self getting 9th in a elite compitition is amazing also do you have any tips about pre race nerves, anxiety, and doubts
Inspiring...and being able to compete at an elite level on track, road and trails seem like living a runner's best life.
Home trails baby! Hope you enjoyed your time in Marin!
Someone needs to make a video of all the runners grimacing through the bicarb before the race. It never fails to crack me up.
Awesome! Great job!
Amazing work Allie! 💫
Very well done!
Good luck on Sunday, you got this!!
Top ten is kinda what I hoped you'd reach this year, with a track season though that extended into this one that was going to be another level up.
One bad race is irrelevant. I'm kinda annoyed you let it get to you. The quality is there. You have focus and your consistency is going to work. Stick to that I have zero doubt. Your flight was brutal. BRUTAL. You need way longer before races on long haul flights, even then though it'd take it out of you.
Good luck in the next one hope you recover quickly.
You're incredible Allie!!!
Wow, way to go Allie!! 🎉❤ This was amazing 🤩👏
Ninth IS flashy! You must be in the top 1% of people who run world wide, when you downplay your achievements imagine how us mere mortals who celebrate when we place in the top half of a race feel 😂
Looking so strong crossing that Finishline.
Your effort is inspiring!
congrats alllie, proud of you
Good job😊 all the best for Sunday
Great job Allie 🏃♀️
So glad for you!!
Crushed it! 💪💪💪
Great video as always!! Very inspirational! From an outside perspective, it seems like you do better in races that require less travel to reach them. If possible, it might help to fly over to the European races a few days or even a week earlier to let your body adjust. Jet lag and long flights can take a bigger toll on a body than one might expect.
Way to go Allie! Top 10 is awesome!
You finished in 9th out of 120, I believe. Don't sell yourself short. Fantastic job!
nice job ! see you at Mammoth ! I'll be in the VK and 26k
best of luck in the race coming up, smash it!!
Go Allie - great stuff! Bring on Mammoth!
Keep it up, takes time to develop them climbing legs. Its not just about leg speed and muscles but strengthen all the connective tissues/ligaments/tendons which takes time.
Outstanding job. You faced the dragon, and you won. Bravo dragon slayer 👏
Good luck Sunday Allie! Your going to be awesome 😎 ❤
You look strong running those trails!
congrats!
You are so brave and inspiring! I don’t know why, but I think about you everytime I run 😂.
I love that!! We are basically running buddies 🙌
Well done Allie. Looks like you are spinning the progress-confidence-progress… fly wheel! Just keep doing more of the same. 😀
Love It!
9th is a "little" flashy 🙂
Runnin' thru the Woooodss
Good deal. Great video. Just keep plugging away Allie.
That Is progress!! You're meant to be there.
When your video came out I verbally said “YESSSSS”
Hammerhart, was für eine Maschine!
Woo hoo! You did amazingly! Good luck next weekend. I’m here for you whether you’re 9th or 90th. 🎉❤🥳👏🌈
An eating disorder is about control thats why when things go wrong its like a comfort blanket
Dont think for a second that you are "too big" for trail running. Beyond the fact that you are of a slight build by any metric I can think of, Running trails requires additional muscle mass to handle the climbs efficienly compared to someone who just runs the same distances on roads. Being out there for longer durations also means overall health, not just vo2max or lactic threshold becomes. important.
I was so happy to see you have a great performance. Good luck for Mammoth!
Also, should you not place in the top 30 after this weekend, will you still be going to race in the final? The qualification is not required to run, right? But they cover everything for the top 30?
Elhousine is a beast beating those kenyans down that super fast course course💪
Great job on this race, you totally crushed it. Your feelings are always valid don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Keep going and good luck at the trail race this weekend! Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that you qualify for finals! 💜🫶🏾🤞🏾
YAY ALLIE!
Congrats; I walked/Ran 14 miles today
Good luck in making the world final. 🐝
A human on earth being what they are meant to be! Yeah Allie!
Strong Laura Green vibes and reference. "We're just running around". Good luck at Mamooth. Any idea what place you need to get to secure ticket to the final?
I’m trying not to think about it! All I can do is run my hardest 🙌
I love the headlands
