  • Just covering a few good questions asked by views on the OM601 Vs M111 crankshaft video, this is covering the Mercedes Benz 2.3 Kompressor M111 turbo build that I am doing.
    The mercedes 2.3 engine is a tough engine to start with but I want to make it tougher

    How are the early VS evo heads different? Is the valve size & port shape the same and just differences in the top bit with cams & timing actuators? Or actually 'flowing' differences?

    • @M-oneeleven-M111
      @M-oneeleven-M111  ปีที่แล้ว

      The pre Evo m111 has a different cam profile smaller round ports I'm not sure on valve size, but the post Evo has sodium filled valves oval larger intake ports there is differences in squash volume to I believe. Also the pistons vary pre vvt and post vvt have the valve relief cut outs in opposite sides where as the post Evo if I remember right has four valve relief cut outs as opposed to two. I want to try to get a pre vvt head and a post Evo head and visually compare all three in a video but unfortunately I don't have the spare cash to at the moment, ide really like to be able to answer your question a bit better

    Thank you for your detailed answer! Although mine is not ideal (m111.944) ill try to suck out some more power from it trough rpm. If the valve springs i ordered can manage to keep power going to 6500 rpm i am expecting around 230 hp (192 stock) and i want to set the redline at around 7k depending on graphs. I will update you once i do it, it will probably take about 2 months because i have to wait a lot for shipments, and also considering im running stock maf injectors and fuel pump i suppouse these might be a problem too (any information on the capabilitues of these parts is more than wellcome as i really need it :P).As for the crankshaft unless some unexpected resonanse appears due to as you mentoned ballance is not ideal it should be absolutely safe according to calculations. Im really happy to have your responses, be well!

      Thank you, I think that's a very achievable goal power wise the stock engine with springs should be ok at 7k I believe there are some M111s in the race scene that rev to 8500-9000 rpm, there is a Australian race series for trucks that use the M111 engine N/a there is also a guy that is fitting a all motor M111 in a Lamborghini too for a race series, these engines are capable in both forms it's just a case of expecting realistic figures which you are and it's great to see, some folks think you can bolt a turbo to these stock block and make 450hp which I have thoroughly tested is definitely not possible 🤣

    @johntosh6146 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The om606 shares the same bolt pattern as the m112 and m113 v6 and v8 respectively
    I was wondering if the sprinter flywheel fitted the m113 and you have confirmed that. There is 2 different patterns on the 112 and 113 but the one I have this will work

      Information like this is great to share , obviously over this time period Mercedes had many production engines and although I have owned one m112 car and two M113 cars I've not had the opportunity to get that in depth with them so thank you for sharing this 👍

    • @johntosh6146
      @johntosh6146 ปีที่แล้ว

      @M-oneeleven-M111 agreed and I'm also sure the m156 as well as the m272 v12 is the same also
      I have an m113 with a m112 manual 6 speed for a project so this definatly helps going forward
      Also away to pick up an SLK 230 shortly and this video gives me ideas for that as a turbo track car

      The om606 shares the same bolt pattern as the m111, but they are not the same as the m112 and m113. Very different.

    • @johntosh6146
      @johntosh6146 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@professorjamesmoriarty5191 the m112 and m113 have 2 different patterns. The one I'm referring to matches the om606, and m111. Rensport and PMC do flywheels and clutch kits and refer to both with the 112 and 113 111 and 606 as fitment types

    Nice. Stroke is 84mm for om601, the m111 has 78.7, 86.6 and 88.4. Are you using shorter rods? Bruv I need to drive my w163 m113 to you for a rear turbo. And awesome video

    • @zonta71
      @zonta71 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And I found your answer to the issue stroker. Doh moment. 😂 and I did get the om601 stroke wrong, its 92.4mm. On your other video explaining the differences

      A rear mount on a w163 that sounds awesome man, there's a guy called stab tech he rear mounted a holset turbo in a e55 w210 give a good idea of how to do it, I do miss my V8s there really is no replacement for displacement. After I've done the m111 and M104 I would like to do either a V8 or V12 turbo build but likely it will be a M113

      Would the M111.970/974 kompressor rods be an option? Its 86,6mm?

      @@M-oneeleven-M111 yeah Stav Tech. Don of off the hook tuning while breaking all the norm. Awesome guy. Visits their workshop some years back but never met Stag himself. So video is next? I got the intercooler, pipes etc, oil radiator, gearbox fluid cooler and a set of lower ratio diffs F&R. Looking for 10s 1/4 mile or lower. Hoping to munch on some AMGs.

      @@zonta71 unfortunately all the rods remained the same length and it was only the cranks that varied the stroke, the m111 is a challenging engine to find parts for owing to the fact that so few people tune them

      Yes mate the post 2001 M111 Evo had quite a few revisions that make it great for revving not so great for high hp handling, I would like to make a all motor m111 Evo that uses gsxr throttle bodies, but I get many ideas 🤣
