Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.

@JasoDip The Warning are fans of Band-Maid. There is a video of them meeting at Aftershock. It's super cute.
But if you like Heavy I recommend Hanabie.

Misa, the bassist is the first one who captures everyone's attention but, as you dig further into their catalogue, you'll start realising that every member is just as talented. There are bass players in Japan probably more technical than Misa, the same goes with every single instrument in this band including vocals, but you don't hear anything like them. Their sound is unmistakable, no matter what style of rock they play. They are tight-knitted group that is apparent in their sound. They all seem to think outside the box. They are not insane or amazing in textbook-style. But they are amazing.
If you are into more traditional metal style, I'd recommend you check out Moratoriam, I'll, Domination, possibly Manners, even though it's more of a classic rock style.
But if you are not into poppy vocal melody, you can also react to their instrumentals.
I personally think their music is deceptively heavy, but don't sound it.
Shambles, their latest mv uploaded on their official channel is also heavy, very punk/metal/skater rock with slightly jazzy breakdown in the middle. Drummer's on fire. Live version is even better but not available yet.

@@Jordan-Ramses Also if you like heavy I recommend Nemophila. They have seven string guitars and a five string bass for a reason.

I also love much heavier music. I never thought I would be into an all female Japanese punk rock group either. But when I heard their instrumentals "From Now On" and "Onset" I fell in love. I saw them live last year in Houston. And Misa (the bassist) is literally one the the best bassists on the planet.

Hi fellow metal listener. My goto music is usually some blend of black and death metal (e.g. Anaal Nathrakh), but this band manages hit so many sweet spots that I have become a major fan of them. I love good double bass play and the drummer of this band has some really creative double bass play that is rare to hear. This song is one of their simpler songs, but they have some really heavy hitters. Moratorium is probably a metal heads gateway drug to Band-Maid, although if you are into proggy and hectic wall of sound stuff, then the entire Unseen World album is a no-brainer.
Oh, I just remembered. From Now On has been a hit for every metal reactor out there. Fairly recent and it is heavy.

@@JasoDip I genuinely suggest not checking out Don't you tell me live before hearing the music video. The problem with the live version is that they don't have any mics or feed from the crowd, so even though you can kinda hear the crowd, it sounds like it's missing. IRL the crowd is as loud as the band, Ive seen them twice and can attest to it, but the sound engineers have tragically failed to point mics at the crowd that show and didn't mix them into mix, so all you hear is faint crowd. It's why the first suggestion is usually Domination live, because that show has proper crowd feedback.

Great reaction brother! The biggest mistake most reactors make is trying to place a genre on these ladies after one song. Cant be done. The words prog hard-rock, heavy metal, pop rock, etc... wouldn't be used by any fan to encompass who they are that has heard just a few tracks from Band-Maid. They are simply "ROCK". Every song is like opening presents on Christmas morning....you never know what your going to hear but you know it will be good. They encompass every rock genre. Sometimes you'll get all these genres into one track with composition skills that will amaze you. Band-Maid has several songs that fit into your listening preference and are done with such skill that only Band-Maid has been able to do. There are many Japanese bands that are very good but IMO Band-Maid tops them all but we are hear to talk about Band-Maid, not other bands. 120+ tracks in 10 years and just a few are good...the rest are great! No BS. I've been going to concerts since 1970 and IMO they can stand with any of the greats. I believed Rock was almost non existent until I watched Band-Maid's "THRILL" (their very first video) several years ago and my mind was blown away. After listening to "MORATORIUM", "FREEZER", "REAL EXISTENCE", "SHAKE THAT", and "BEFORE YESTERDAY" I was completely hooked. If you decide to react to another Band-Maid tune, cue up "FROM NOW ON". This is a relatively new instrumental track that would fall in line with your taste (along with the songs I already mentioned). In conclusion, I would suggest that you explore more of Band-Maid (privately or doing a reaction) or you may regret missing out on the hardest working, best stage performing, song writing band on the planet today. I hope you'll do more for us because we "MAIDIACS" love watching people discover this unique ass-kicking group of females. Again, great reaction!

If you like heavy, check out the bands Nemophila, Hanabie, Saiseiga, Bridear, Dimrays, Lovebites, and Asterism. This song from Band-Maid is more pop/punk but most of their songs are hard rock. Hello, friend. If you want heavier Band-Maid, you should check Domination LIVE, not the MV, or Shambles MV, or Rinne (Reincarnation) MV. Band-Maid has the most diverse range of rock music today. They have a unique song for every combination of hard rock, punk, metal and pop you can come up with. If you want something even more fast paced, Warning!! MV is a tour de force.

I assume Domination is a Pantera cover?

    • @Parker--
      @Parker-- 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Nope, It's a wholly original song, but it does have plenty of metal influence. It is usually the one to go to for new listeners because the official live video does the best at telling you what the band is all about. Whereas as Unleash is more "anime punk metal (with a samba bridge)," or Don't You Tell Me is a more pop-rock song, Domination LIVE is more rock-metal hybrid with an emphasis on instrumentation and crowd participation. Trust me, you can skip the MV for Domination as the live version is transformative and doesn't suffer from the lack of crowd audio mixing that Unleash and DYTM do. It's from their Line Cube Shibuya concert where the crowd is properly mixed. @@JasoDip

Welcome, J-Dip. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 190 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: th-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/w-d-xo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Shambles, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): th-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/w-d-xo.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:

    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Band-Maid blends a lot of sounds and multiple genres into their songs. The vocal hooks definitely lean more pop and there is a punk element to their sound that's present throughout many of their songs. Check out Moratorium or Play!, their official live versions if you want something heavier. Cheers!

I hear your critiques, and I understand exactly where you’re coming from.
This particular song isn’t even in my top 30 for BAND-MAID songs.
If heavier rock is more your style, like Slipknot, for example, this may not be the band for you.
However, Slipknot are fans of BAND-MAID.
A couple of their harder offerings would be:
“From Now On,“ an instrumental track, or
    “Rinne/Reincarnation”
BAND-MAID definitely maintains their positive and energetic choruses. People who, like the dark, bloody, angry downtuned thrash won’t really dig the Maids

Thanks for your honesty. Band Maid self describes as a hard rock band. Their music tends to have dashes of everything. Trying some more might get you sold. They have a way of growing on people. You won't be the first metal head to say "not my style" and wind up being smitten by them. I leave follow-up songs to others.

I think the next song by Band Maid you should listen to is "Don't You Tell ME", the official live music video. It's from the same concert, their 10th Anniversary tour finale at Yokohama Arena. If you like Misa, their bassist, you will love "Don't You Tell ME" because Misa and Kanami, their lead guitarist, have a "conversation" during the song. It's rock and roll at it's finest.

Interesting comments. Band-Maid is an incredibly versatile and elite hard rock with over 120 songs produced over their 10-year careers. Anything from hard rock to soulful ballads to hard-hitting instrumentals to metal influenced songs to Prog to songs with elements of jazz and blues, Band-Maid can do it all with incredible skill and passion. They excel with live stage performances and love to encourage their audience to participate in their songs with them. The band members themselves are exceptionally nice and humble who are able to write and perform amazing music with a sense of joyful exuberance that is contagious. Welcome to discovering this exceptional band and enjoy the journey. Cheers.

Their Manners/Black Hole live is a good place to start. Funk and old school for the first one, not sure what to call the second. It gives a slight hint at the range these ladies cover.

  • @etoineschrdlu9382
    @etoineschrdlu9382 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Band-Maid tends to blend genre, stretching all over the map. "Unleash!!!!!" is in the middle of their genre mix which ranges from light to *HEAVY.*
For heavy, try their instrumentals "Onset" or "From Now On", for songs try "Rinne" (punk-metal) or my current favorite "Puzzle" live from Tokyo Garden theater (crank the volume to Eleven! it wails!)
Metal heads who prefer "Heavier" music are missing out by avoiding Band Maid. (Mea Culpa! I ignored them for years before I 'discovered' how good they are) Slipknot likes them. Incubus likes them (invited them to open for them in Japan this year) Band-Maid was an opener for Guns-n-Roses about a year ago and Gene Simmons knows who they are. Band-Maid is a killer, high-energy live act. These ladies hold each other to a very high standard of play: you won't find a tighter band anywhere. There is no single star in this band, everyone in this band is exceptional in some way, and the all take their turn in the spotlight.

As good as the girls are in this one, I agree it is not really my style which is why this song isn’t in my top 50 for them. I like their harder rock numbers. I’m also not a fan when it tips over into extreme heavy metal and thankfully most of their extensive catalog sits comfortably (for me) in between. Outstanding musicians all and great song writers to boot. You won’t regret diving deeper into this band.

I love The Warning, second best band today behind Band-Maid IMHO, but they are a narrower scope and more hard rock focused. Band-Maid's heavier stuff is heavier instrumentally than The Warning for sure, whether you mean tonally heavier are skewing towards more metal, Band-Maid does both heavier than The Warning depending on the song. Shambles might be the heaviest music video they have tonally, and has got a metal skew to it as well, or possibly Rinne (Reincarnation) might be your best option as that is more thrash metal, much like Black Hole (though I would say that is more prog punk metal). From Now On MV is a metal instrumental track, whereas Onset live is more rock instrumental.
A lot of their heavy stuff doesn't have music videos, but the album tracks are on their channel. Songs like I'll and Hate? are good examples.

I appreciate your honesty and understand they might not seem like your cup of tea, but as others have said, please keep listening. There's a good chance they'll hook you. As I've gotten to know other fans, what's stood out is how diverse their pre-Band-Maid tastes were. I've met fans who were serious metalheads, punk rockers who hated guitar solos, and people who were into softer rock and pop and never liked hard rock or metal at all.
IMO, what Band-Maid does is akin to sorcery. They throw punk, rock, hard rock, alt-rock, metal, jazz, funk, prog and pop in a cauldron, and the result is always magical. All killer, no filler. Other bands might exceed them on a technical level, but Band-Maid's super-creative songwriting and arranging are what set them apart for me.
Others here have mentioned Nemophila. They're a great metal band and generally heavier than Band-Maid, but like Band-Maid, they veer among genres at will. Definitely worth checking out.

They can really play anything. That said, you'd be most likely to like From Now On (instrumental) or Rinne, a more metal like song. Thank you for your honest reaction. They have nearly 100 good songs. I think they can manage to make you like also not so heavy stuff 😀
I am not sure what you mean by heavy. Do it need growling? No - you liked the Warning.
Maybe you shall listen to a double, "Dice" and "Hate" at Lollapooloza? Its wild! And they have fun!
Or maybe you shall listen to an instrumental, "From now on"? Then you will see how good they really are.
If you want to listen to the bassist MISA, there is non better than the official live double "Manners" and "Black Hole". This version of "Manners" is 80% delicious bass.
One thing you have to understand with BAND-MAID is that they change their performances. So, have you heard one then you have not heard them all.
They are quite laid back and I suspect that some of what they do is improvised.

Yeah MISA plays Lead Bass....not just Bass. Check out an earlier song that's a little harder called "RINNE" music video. It's shot on 8mm film to give it the old Japanese "Horror Film" effect. It was a middle finger salute to the Japanese music critics at the time that said Band-Maid was getting too "Poppy".

Hey man, appreciate the honest reaction, sometimes reaction channels tend to blow smoke up people and bend over backwards to please the fans of the band, so it's nice to see an objective reaction.
Now, if you want heavy, you're probably not in the right place with Band-Maid. Phenomenal musicians and performers, but they don't really do super heavy. I do however have some suggestions of Japanese bands that might scratch that itch a little bit more:
    Nemophila - Oiran (live)
    Dexcore - Red Eye
    Jiluka - Venom
    Hanabie - Tousou
    Kokeshi - Taikai
Broken By The Scream - Emotion Cross Counter
    Dimrays - Fr
    Deviloof - Damn
The heaviest of these is 100% Kokeshi. Keep up the good work friend 👍🤘

Oh, we are going down the Japanese metal hole. How about Babymetal Road of Resistance Live in Japan? Kind of a speed metal Dragon Force flavored metal with musicians that absolutely kick ass. The crowd in this one will blow your freaking mind.

If you like death metal but want to stay with a Japan option that is also fun, you need to check out Maximum the Hormone. I would recommend starting with the song Yoshu Fukushu. They have been around since the late 90's and their drummer was the inspiration for Akane, Band-Maid's drummer, when she was starting.

If you keep reacting to BAND-MAID, you will have to add a few more genres to the description of the band.

Try 'From Now On', 'Rene' or 'Hate" ... dozens of other blasters but any of those three will give you a better frame of reference :)

Band Maid are not the best shredders in the world, but I believe that for the kind of band that band maid is, they make the best musical choices over most bands. I do think that the next songs/ videos that you should react to are either Don't You Tell Me Live or, Rinne (MV) from a heaviness Standpoint, also Black hole (live)is pretty heavy.

This song may not be your style because this is more anime style, but please DO NOT GIVE UP. They have other styles as well. The next couple of review should be
    DON'T YOU TELL ME - th-cam.com/video/SOj3qXBhiP4/w-d-xo.html - same concert.
    HATE? - th-cam.com/video/OvtKRZ9xt3E/w-d-xo.html - Chicago Lollapalooza 2023
You will appreciate the bass from MISA even more. Their stage presence is fantastic in all of their live videos.
    I will also add -
    I STILL SEEK REVENGE -th-cam.com/video/H0xsEwtKUkQ/w-d-xo.html

I understand that it's not your cup of tea, but I'll just say this anyway.
When something isn't your style - your ears are only half open and the other half is shut without your realising.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your honesty but I think doing reactions is a great way to expand your musical horizon.
Their vocal melody is well...poppy. It's part of their sound.
That's part of where they are different from The Warning.
Band-Maid, I personally think is heavier than The Warning. The Warning have the heavy sound in a more old school style.
Band-Maid is heavy in a completely different way.
I think you'll still find them too poppy even after listening to their heavy songs. You could react to their instrumentals and you might like them better. Also Band-Maid have their unmistakable sound, but not catered to English-speaking audience like the warning is.
It really doesn't matter if Band-Maid is the kind of band you'd normally listen to. I care less about it. But once your ears are more cultured into different style of music, you'd at least appreciate or even grow to embrace the difference.

For something heavier try another all girl Japanese band NEMOPHILA. Start with their song Rise.

@JasoDip you won't be sorry. Zen is the screamiest song they have and I like it but Rise is more representative of the sort of music they do.

Why do American reactors listen 4 measures of a song and was to pigeon hole the group into a particular genre!!! It drives me crazy.
    This band plays everything !!!!!!
