The sad thing is it's not people saying "We will not pay these prices".. no, it's the banks saying "we won't finance these prices". Your average American car or truck buyer will pay any price at any rate for any length of terms so long as they think they can afford the payment.
even if they can't afford the payments, as long as the bank says yes they will get it, the same with a house. They don't care that they will have to take every promotion at work, work 20hrs of overtime every week, without missing any weeks for sick time. They will have to do this for 8yrs for a vehicle or 30yrs for a house.
I'm still driving the 1996 Dodge Ram 4x4 I bought new for 21K. Has 230k miles on it now. No truck payment for 23 years. Always did my own preventive maintenance. In 2015 I replaced the axles, axle bearings, metal and rubber brake lines, U-joints, shocks. 2019 seat covers, dash from LMC truck. Replaced headliner. Just last week replaced the timing chain, water pump, hoses, thermostat. Did the chain just in case and boy it was ready. This truck has been so rock solid for all these years. Simple. Reliable. Still same engine and transmission. It's getting tired, but hanging in there. They don't build them like this anymore. I have never needed or wanted a truck with all the fancy crap. I work this thing hard.
I have a 1996 Indyram since brand new, best vehicle ever. Picked up a 2001 dodge ram quad cab with the off road package, with only 62K miles last year, plan to keep it forever.
@@Alstanus you just need mechanical aptitude and patience. Good tools makes for a good end result. Doing my Dodge 5.2L engine just required a 9/16" socket or combination wrench for most bolts on the timing cover and alternator bracket. 1-1/4" socket and impact wrench to remove the harmonic balance bolt. A puller to remove the harmonic balance and the upper timing chain gear. Get the fan shroud and fan off. Fan nut was a bit tough without the special tool. I used propane torch to heat the nut a bit and then hit a adjustable wrench with a hammer and the nut broke free. It unscrews counter clockwise. Get the timing cover off along with water pump. Remove the spark plugs so easy to turn the engine by hand. Fit the harmonic balance back on enough just so you can turn engine by hand until you get the timing marks on the timing gears pointing at each other. It's dots on each gear. Remove old gears and timing chain. Hold the new chain hanging in your hand and set the gears inside the chain making sure the timing marks on the gears will be aligned when you slide the new chain set into place. Slip the chain set in place. The key slots of the new gears should fit exactly as the old gears where oriented. The timing marks (dots) should be pointed at each other. Put some red thread locker on the upper timing gear bolt and torque to about 35 foot pounds. The bolt will pull the upper gear firmly into place as you tighten it. Install a new oil seal in the timing cover. Reinstall the timing cover using new gasket and red form a gasket at the bottom reusing the half moon shaped old rubber seal that sets on the front of the oil pan. I first bolted the new water pump to the timing cover using the three bolts that don't pass through the cover so the water pump was in place as I bolted on the timing cover. Install the harmonic balance. Red Thread locker on balance bolt. 135 foot pounds torque. Go back with new radiator hoses and new thermostat. Replace that small hose at the top of the water pump. They are difficult to access later after the alternator/A/C compressor bracket is bolted in place. Might as well replace them while things are easy to access. It's not rocket science. Install new spark plugs. I marked the plug wire locations (firing order) on each wire plug so I could easily plug back the plug wires. Tip... before you install the thermostat, install the lower radiator hose, then fill the radiator until you see the antifreeze up to the hole where the thermostat sits. Then you know you've bleed air out the system. Now install the thermostat and gooseneck. Install new upper radiator hose after the fan shroud is back in place. Your truck is ready for another couple hundred thousand miles.
If the the dealership collapses we better not bail them out, they have been selling us junk for years, and I own a perfect example of it,and what happen when we bailed them out back in 08.they shifted a lot of the production line out of the country, and continued to sell us junk.screw the automakers.
What's crazy is that the 2008 bailout of the automobile industry was not a bailout of the actual companies: Ford, GM, Chrysler etc. But a bailout of their financing divisions: GMAC, Ford financial etc. Car companies make more money off their loans than their car sales. I bought a 2017 regular cab F150 4x4 XL in 2018 for 24,6xxx after financing it was around 28 and some change. I got the truck with a lifetime drivetrain warranty. That same truck today is almost double that. My truck is paid for and worth it's weight in gold to me at this point. These prices are insane.
Bring back the MANUAL TRANSMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No electronic crap, no "assist" anything (except steering). Manual roll down windows and manual locks. Simplicity is what I want, what a lot of truck buyers want.
My daily driver is a 2017 Mazda 6, with a 6-speed manual. But other than a few Mexicans and other immigrants, a truck with a manual isn't going to sell.

I bought a 2021 F-150 and noticed the next year they started removing little things here and there. They started charging hundreds extra for the bed lights and went from LEDs back to incandescent license plate lights. Very insulting with the prices they charge.

No reason to put heavy duty parts in a truck that the software will not be serviced in 10 years. The manufacturers know these vehicles won’t be around in 15 years.
The cost reduction by cheapening of parts is going on forever, it just feels that it accelerated or reached a tipping point during the pandemic. Before that cheapening worked without immediate reliability penalty. But now they are cheapening what was cheapened multiple times before and longevity and reliability taking immediate hits. That’s partly why the increase in recalls etc.
I’m shopping for a new at4 canyon.. there’s supposed to be improvements in 25… but this video is making sense. Crazy what they’re asking these days for poorly built vehicles.
canyon looks like just some package and option changing around in 25. and i bet the price goes up for it. Im betting the 2024 is the best way to go there as well even though there are not a ton of canyons out there.
These automakers don’t get it , everything’s gone up including vehicle prices… no one can afford this stuff anymore unless you’re wealthy. Food is the new car payment
I bought a 2024 Subaru Forester at the end of 23. They were already waiting for the 2025's to show up so we talked about holding off for that. After seeing the changes they made for the 2025 model, I'm REALLY glad that I went with the 2024. I'm just sorry that the 2024 was the year they dumped the CD player. I miss having one badly.
@@Jason-Samko Subaru seems to have become the car of choice for non-rural Minnesotans. They're everywhere. What won me over was seeing that they placed low on a graph comparing how much car companies jacked up their prices during Covid. Stellantis vehicles were the worst.
CD Player ! ! Seriously - a CD Player! Do you miss having an 8-track in there too? Who needs or uses CD Players? If it's music, then get with the times and burn them onto MP3's and put 'em on a USB stick. Who doesn't do that already these days. I seriously cannot understand the need for a CD Player.
Thank you for posting this helpful video, Jason. I'm turning in my 2023 Nissan Frontier lease in December and will purchase or lease a 2024 Nissan Frontier. I'm hoping to purchase one because the dealership should be offering amazing deals at that time.

The insurance is very high on New trucks and suvs.$1800 to $3000 annually. So let's say a new truck monthly payment is $1500. Insurance is $1800 per year divided in 12 months $150 per month. For a grand total of $1950 per month or $23400 per year! If you make $50000 per year that's basically almost HALF hour income going just to transportation.
That’s definitely having an impact on sales.. 54 no claims or accidents.. a24’ Sierra denali ( not ultimate) was 2750 a year!!! No freggin way… I pay 1178 a year ( up from 982) for full coverage on my 10’ Sierra Denali.

Nice job, Jason!!! Look at the views on this video! Well done sir! And yes, just like you I believe that no vehicle is worth the price! Prices are too high, but yet the quality doesn’t match. I’m sorry I just don’t think that fancy sensors, touch screens or whatever else, are really worth it. More expensive certainly doesn’t mean more reliable either!
If it somehow wins, the tariffs, which it has no clue about - or he does and he’s just pacifying the lemmings - will obliterate the economy. I almost want it to happen so half of this country will look at themselves. Probably better themselves. But ww3 will have begun in Poland and Taiwan. Internment camps back in action… it’ll be a bloody nightmare. Oh, and he’ll destroy social security and Medicaid which the lion’s share of his cult profoundly depend on. It’s mind boggling.
I have a 2022 F150 STX (Sport Pkg) FX4 Supercrew with a V8 and 20" tires and tow mirrors. That's all I need. Great truck, fully paid for since day 1, and runs like a champ !! This was one of the best setups....cheaper, yet really nice looking without all the electronic crap. Solid truck.
The only Stellantis vehicle I would consider is their small van -- which isn't small or cheap. Everything else is too sketchy, like the Dodge Dart. Cute car, but the dealers cannot sell them to people who have decent income/credit.
I just got a cold call today from the dealer i bought my last truck from in 2014. I would love to upgrade but prices are just far too high for me, told him when they start putting 20+k on the hood to give me a call. Deals are not anywhere near good enough yet, manufactures are going to have to simply lose money if they want to move anything...
Not just 2025, avoid all now, no good prices or quality difference for 2024 also. Even used prices are sky high, not buying until they get real with the prices and quality. Keeping what I have and very happy with it.
2025 Nissan Frontier is being discounted already in the Northeast. It’s the truck I’m currently watching. Maybe I will get one in the first quarter of next year. It’s had a few nice updates as you know. 3.39% financing on the Frontier right now too. We’ll see if that financing sticks around.
@@ztotheu2974 I'm happy being stuck with my 14 year old Nissan, not showing one fault on my scanner, it has a great 6 speed manual they can keep there junk CVT.
I won't buy any vehicle that invades my privacy. That means no GM products. They can report you to your insurance company. Hard pass. I don't know about the rest but I don't trust any of them.
gm is actually the only one that has now vowed not to sell that data. Becuase they got caught, yes. But all the others are still doing it as they have not got in trouble for it yet.
The only way to justify a $1,000+ truck payment is 100% business use where you can expense the payment and add a mileage expense to reduce your taxable income. Other than that, if you put $1,000 a month away for retirement you can literally cut years off the time you have to work to reach your goals. It is a choice between riding around in an $80K truck now or doing whatever you want to do all day everyday when you are 55-60 years old.
@@johnhix484 no guarantee you're 80K truck will not get stolen, damaged, wrecked, or just plainly loose half it's value in a couple years. I'll place my money on long term goals rather than short term gratifications that don't hold much value.
Only truck that I would trust is the Nissan Frontier. I would still go for a 2024 model though just to save a little money unless you have money coming out of your ears.
I'm looking at those as well. The main thing with the 2025 models is the ability to get a Pro4x with a 6ft bed and larger towing capacity. Just trying to decide if the priced difference is worth it between the 24 or 25. So far I'm not seeing the discounts on the 2024s that are mentioned in this video.
The worst is heated seats and wheel. Oh you want this cheap simple option that makes life significantly better and reduces cold idle time. Oh you need to buy the 10k luxury trim package and buy a 60k truck with leather, less seats, and nasty carpet.
@@mattbarker1411 about as luxury as AC, FM Stereo, power windows, power mirrors, and tilt wheel. Dirt cheap to do. Adds significant value to any vehicle. People in Florida don’t buy new vehicles without AC and people in Maine don’t buy new vehicles without heated seats.
The auto industry as a whole is in for serious pain over the next few months. I work at tier 2 supplier. This time of year we are normally ramping up as the industry pumps out cars for the new model year. We’re idling production and furloughing employees over the next two months. In the 20+ years I’ve worked here, we’ve NEVER idled production at this time of year. Aug-Jan is the busy season. There is so much 2024 stock still sitting on lots (and even some 2023) that the industry is massively cutting back production for 2025. Orders for Sept and Oct absolutely nosedived. Down between 30-50 percent. It looks no better and in some ways worse over the next 3-4 months. I don’t know when that stabilizes and starts to come back.
With the high inventory levels at all dealerships tells me is that “need” for trucks has fallen way back to supply. Couple with high rates and insurance. The emotional support vehicle for men is cost prohibitive.
Still driving my 2008 Silverado, paid $26,500 new…..327K miles, factory transmission…..put in a remanufactured engine at 276K for $9,900……Haven’t had a note since 2012
I was at the dealer Tuesday dropping my Sierra off for warranty work and the lot was PACKED full of trucks. Could be that people are finally backing off due to the price or it could also be the fact that reliability and quality has taken a nose dive. Not to mention if you do have an issue it's sometimes weeks wait for parts.
BS. I've been looking at get a new 4X4 truck or Jeep to tow behind my RV for a couple of years now. The dealership all play the same bait you in game, acting like their your best friend, after hours at telling them what I want and at what price I'm willing to pay etc. Then when I finally get a written propossal their's all kind of freight, prep, BS fees tacked on, waisting hours of my time as the salesmen run back and forth to their mansgers office. I eventually walk away and then the next day they start the endless phone calls and text messages asking me to come back in etc. etc
It's important to know how to play the game and negotiate. When a person develops those skills huge deals are easy and happen all the time. The kind of deals that other claim are bs. But yet they keep happening
Just bought a new RAM 1500 Classic HEMI V8,black appearance package, crew cab 4x4,sport hood, black paint, console, trailer tow package, brake controller, heated steering wheel, seats, 20" wheels..It's the nice looking black appearance package (I had a 2015 night package and this is the same)..$45k out the door!! Look around you can get a deal!!
I must assume you paid cash, bought no extended warranty, no maintenance plan, no prepaid oil changes and no LoJack or road service. But you had to pay taxes and I can’t believe your total cost was $45 grand. And you bought a truck from a company getting ready to go bankrupt.
I just want a naturally aspirated (non turbo non supercharged) 6 cylinder, non cvt, non hybrid, non full of electronics, comfortable american car.....thats all I want
I avoid anything made post 2018. I paid off my 16 JK Rubicon 6spd that I ordered new 4.5 years ago and have been dailying it for 202k miles. Still runs like a top. I decided to retire it to summer/off-road toy duty and started looking at full size pickups to use in the winters and for towing and hauling. Ended up buying a super clean, well cared for 17 Ram 2500 Big Horn the other weekend. It seemed way better built than the newer trucks that were more than 2 or 3x times as expensive. Splitting the mileage between the two now will hopefully mean I’ll have both for years to come at a fraction of the price. All these cost cuts and glitchy new tech is for the birds. A truck just needs to be a truck.
I argued during the pandemic when stealerships were tacking on market adjustments (aka screwing their own customers) that we would not only see excess inventory, but also steep discounts. It was only a matter of time before the greedy bubble burst. The TH-cam “experts “ told me we had no choice and the prices would stay elevated and the adjustments would never go away. Corporate management allowed the dealers to do this and they are just as guilty. Reep those taxes on all of that year end inventory.
My every day ride is a 89 Toyota pickup I purchased used in 1995 almost 30 years ago Little 22R engine and runs like new Just regular Mantaince upkeep I’m not paying $45,000 for a midsize truck of any brand
Jason, you are doing excellent work here brother. Eventually I’d like to have you appear in one of my documentaries. You know a lot about the ground level information that many don’t know about. I appreciate that. I really liked your last Toyota video and where you showed Tacoma after Tacoma. I wish I would have seen that before I made my Toyota documentary! 😂 Dealers around me aren’t discounting any of their older models either. There are NEW 2023 models still that they won’t discount. Not many but they are there. Always a pleasure Jason, keep up the great work brother. -Brandon 🫡
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Yep no deals on the 23s here either. they are like gold for the dealers. Will check out your channel when I get a few mins.
For 2025, Ford Super Duty trucks will only offer the 8' bed/Supercab configuration for XL and XLT trims. Also, it's pretty normal for this year's models to be left in December. If they're all still there in March 2025, then that's something to talk about.
We wanted a Gladiator when they were first released. But the msrp for a hardtop automatic was at least $45k! With roll up windows and manual locks. Never mind any WIFI! Plus no deals even worse markups! So we went from a 2016 Colorado Ext Cab 4x4,V6, to a 2019 Colorado Crew Cab 4x4, V6, both for under $35k with OnStar 4G LTE WIFI! Power windows and tow packages. But just a few months ago we started seeing discounts finally on Gladiators. So in the end of Aug. we bought a beautiful Gladiator Sport S hardtop automatic, in granite crystal metallic, with safety and convenience packages that came with heated seats and steering wheel, ACC automatic cruise control and backup protection warning and lane change warning. The only option I could not get was max tow. The MSRP was just over $51k, but we got it for $36k! A great deal for a fantastic vehicle.
I'll keep my 04 Dodge Dakota. Long paid off. No cruise control, or electronics. 3.6. One ECU. Crank windows. 173,000 miles. I would still drive it anywhere.
The best superduty you can buy is a 2019 model if you can find a super low mileage garage queen. Or even better a 2020 model built in late 2019 pre covid unicorn. It’s been down hill from there.
Been watching some dealers near me. It's November, and they are not budging on high prices of 2024 vehicles. One dealer lot has same unsold new 2024 vehicles over a year.
My 2004 Chevy Silverado is still running with 235,000 miles but it too had its problems with stupid engineering of stepper motors controlling the AC where are you have to remove the dash to replace a $50 part so I’ll just use a needle nose vice script to pitch off the heater line to stop the cab from getting hot in the summer
I don't see Nissan doing that. In fact they made more things standard on the 2025 frontier and the new refresh has some meaningful upgrades which I could not avoid if I were in the market. The frontier has the same old F-Alpha box frame that is built like a tank at the same old Canton Plant in Mississippi. There really is only one thing they took away and that is the bed rails on the floor. They deleted those in 2022 and one might also say they dropped the roof rack on the Pro 4X premium package. But those items do not make the truck less capable or less reliable. Not like how oems like Toyota purposely under-built the underpinnings to beef up margins. I don't see that crap from Nissan. Not even remotely so.
nissan frontier is agreat truck. but odnt let them fool you. They are all playing these games. pro4x added very little in the refresh and went up 3500 bucks for 2025. Great updates, 100% but at almost a 10% increase in msrp and a vow to not has as much inventory so that deals are harder to get in 2025.
@@Jason-Samko Maybe. But my dealer has 58 on the ground. I'm pretty sure I could get at least 2500 or more off MSRP if I were in the market. OEM's are cutting back production but inventories are still up. I think everything before the elections is in limbo. House sales are flat as well as auto. People don't know what to expect and many are already stretched on too much debt. Mass layoffs are just beginning to take off. If anything I would hold off buying until the end of the year or Jan 31 which is a good time before tax season. Look at the new tacos. Brand new generation but they have to already discount them which is unheard of for the mighty Yota.

@@kenkneedee Maybe so but 20-25 percent of frontiers are built as P4X's. My dealer has tons of SV's and P4X's in just about any color you want lol. I'm seeing most dealers moving their used inventory up front and center just to sell something to pay the bills.
I still have the 1936 chevy pick up I had in high school, but a couple of years ago I dropped a crate 350 into it with an automatic trans, and a Mustang II front axle. And a CD player. So, I don't have to worry about all these plastic and computer trucks nowadays. Plus, the old chicks dig it, man.
I am going a step further. I am keeping my old car. I would feel like a fool walking into a dealer paying these prices. Then I would get hit with higher insurance costs too.
I still can't understand how RAM though dumping their V8 option was a wise move, should've kept it in the lineup for a couple more years as an option while they see how the new Hurricane engine pans out. I can't wait until my 2017 V8 Ram receives the treatment that a V8 Tundra gets from dealerships, I won't trade my truck in though she's well maintained and I intend to keep it until either I die or some idiot smashes into it (and I may just fix it in that case).
Local dealership has a ton of 24 f150's sitting on the lot. Huge markdowns on them. I'm still not paying those prices. I might go talk to a salesman and throw out a disrespectful lowball offer and see what they say.
Nice idea, but…….. I have been wanting a truck for years. Things are finally aligned so I can buy one. Have decided to go with an F-150 “STX”. It seems simple but I want the STX with 5.0 V8 and the max towing package and the “office” package so it has 110 volt outlets. And want the towing mirrors. No dealers in my area stock F-150’s with towing mirrors, and adding them seems to be somewhere between $1,000 and $2,000 (not sure). I have looked online at 15 or 20 dealers and none have exactly my setup even without the tow mirrors. I think I will special order exactly what I want, which at this point will be a 2025. My area seems to be running advertised discounts around $4,000 which I’ll probably miss - but I’ll get exactly what I want in a truck I expect to keep 15 years.

Love it. Congrats, man. Wish I had those kind of skills.

@@Jason-Samko a pro 4X probably fits maybe 3% of the buyers interests
grab a 2025 SV or an s and actually use it for work like I'm doing I run my pressure cleaning and window cleaning business off a Nissan Frontiers now for 21 years
@@kenkneedee Maybe so but 20-25 percent of frontiers are built as P4X's. My dealer has tons of SV's and P4X's in just about any color you want lol. I don't recall ever seeing that much inventory (58 trucks) at anytime/any year. People have quit buying new and that's affecting all brands.
Perfect
I am going a step further. I am keeping my old car. I would feel like a fool walking into a dealer paying these prices. Then I would get hit with higher insurance costs too.
I agree. We need to come together and not buy for a while to get these OEMs to lower the prices.
My local toyota dealer keeps their inventory lot empty so it appears to be low inventory.
Local dealership has a ton of 24 f150's sitting on the lot. Huge markdowns on them. I'm still not paying those prices. I might go talk to a salesman and throw out a disrespectful lowball offer and see what they say.
Just got my 2024 Frontier SV. 39600 msrp. Got it for 31400. No add ons from the dealership just tax, tag, and doc fees.
Outstanding
Yep sometimes it's hard to find what you want or need and no choice but to custom order
@@davep4610 You can buy an small inverter like someone purchases for a boat way cheaper than the dealer option. Get a small 1800 watt inverter and mount it someplace easily accessed.
Just ordered a 2025 Ford Ranger XLT V6!
the ranger with the 2.7 should be amazing. I can not wait to drive and review one.
No tech! Save 30% on your truck! Make it a real truck!
Exactly right!
You're right on this! I got my 2024 Ram 2500 back in May for $18,000 off msrp! It had around $10,000 worth of options and with the discounts I ended up paying exactly what the Base Price was on the window sticker! Crazy times we're in right now.
A Gteat Deal.
@leeowens1598 Yessir! Ilike your Gladiator brother! I love jeeps, I just bought my wife a 2024 Wrangler Sahara in Tuscadero Pearlcoat Pink! Lol. The Gladiators really grew on me because at first I didn't like them. Weird how that happens...
Just bought a new RAM 1500 Classic HEMI V8,black appearance package, crew cab 4x4,sport hood, black paint, console, trailer tow package, brake controller, heated steering wheels, seats 20" wheels ,black package (night package)..$45k out the door!!
Very well done on an outstanding truck
@@MikeekiM-vh5seWhere?, at leat show us invoice pls.
I took a load of yard debris to the dump the other day. There was some guy beside me unloading. He was driving an old piece of sh** Ram dually - all beat up. I wasn’t paying close attention to what he was doing but he took off fast to get some big chucks of wood off a trailer - and even though it was an old truck that thing was a beast. That diesel seriously sounded like a bulldozer engine or something lol.
@@Encourageable back when they were built to last and built to work

As a business owner and electrician I don’t trust anything newer than 2020. Seen and heard waaayyyy too many problems!
Even when they add something good (like Badlands pkg in Bronco Sport) they force you to then deal with a new entirely digital dash. Which will only give you issues down the road.
@@stephenurban9880 don't care for digital dashes. But that's the way everything is going now. I'm not happy about it
My work bought a 23 escape hybrid. It had 6000 miles on it when i drove it through about 8 inchs of flood water. It fried, had to have it towed, 7000 damage, no warranty because i drove it through water! New wiring harness and battery.😡
Fords are known for having wiring connectors that don’t seal properly allowing water intrusion
2002 f250 7.3 diesel. 280k miles trucking good
The dealers are also at fault by adding 10-20k or more over what msrp was. You can't get greedy and them blame your supplier.
What's crazy is that the 2008 bailout of the automobile industry was not a bailout of the actual companies: Ford, GM, Chrysler etc. But a bailout of their financing divisions: GMAC, Ford financial etc. Car companies make more money off their loans than their car sales. Car companies are just banks that sell cars.
And they are all major military contractors which is a large portion of their profits

With prices where they are at, and all the new engine designs over many different brands I will likely wait to 2026 to see how it shakes out.
I was also hoping to see Tacomas move from Mexico and back to the USA.
