I've been doing the same thing. Except I use a foam paint brush to apply the Mother's Aluminum polish. Because my polishing pads are too big to fit in the canister. There's also some scratches in the diamond plate pickguard.
That’s a good question, it really depends on what your doing. If it’s being exposed to a lot of road, grime dirt dust, it’s going to be pretty soon that it will need redone, like maybe 3-6months I’ve found. But everyone is different, some guys want to polish every other weekend, others will polish once a year.

Thanks for the carpet idea
Glad it was helpful!
I’m going to Home Depot for carpet samples for this. Thanks for sharing!
you're welcome! good luck!!
Hell yeah brother. Thank you.
Sweet, i have 4 of these to do. Moss covered and green right now😂
General Note - if you plan to seal the aluminum . . . when done, do a quick clean with isopropyl alcohol remove any residual polish (black film)
Really useful. Do you know if the results are similar if you have black coated diamond plate?
Great question, I’m not sure/haven’t tried it on black coat diamond plate aluminum.
About how long does this last before you have to repolish?

Thanks for the heads up Brian! I just updated the link.
Mother's stuff is useless for anything that is already like new. Don't waste your money.
