  • Presenting at our "Improving Care in OA/TOF" seminar in London, Paediatric Surgical Registrar Natalie Durkin gives an update on the tissue engineered oesophagus project.
This pioneering study from Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and The Francis Crick Institute has seen researchers grow the world’s first oesophagus engineered from stem cells and successfully transplanted them into animals.
It is hoped this new research could pave the way for clinical trials of lab-grown food pipes for children with congenital and acquired gut conditions including OA/TOF.
    About TOFS:
TOFS (Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula Support) is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people born with the OA/TOF condition and their carers. For over 40 years we have been helping people through the lifelong challenges that being born with OA/TOF (also known as EA/TEF in some parts of the world), VACTERL and associated conditions can bring.
