This makes me so mad, I feel like y’all didn’t really read that book. Madison is definitely not an influencer just because she got
discovered on TH-cam. I mean if we look at it that way justin bieber would technically be an influencer too because he got discovered on youtube as well. And her posting on insta doesn’t make her an influencer either I mean literally everybody and their mom post on that app. And for the record scooter and her mom weren’t in high school together nor were they friends(she literally says it in the book)And she wasn’t a Victoria’s Secret model she was the face for a new perfume, so it was basically a collab.

Your usage of the term 'industry plant' suggests a lack of understanding about its actual meaning. An industry plant refers to a young artist or band who is marketed as an independent talent, creating their own unique style of music, when in reality they are being deceptively promoted to an audience that is unaware that industry veterans have invested in, written for, and produced them. Madison Beer's early career is the complete opposite of this. When a 12 year old is signed to a major label and is singing bubblegum pop written by others, it is evident that they are not attempting to deceive anyone into thinking that they are an indie artist. While bubblegum pop is indeed an industry driven genre, it has no correlation with being an 'industry plant'.
14:15 it seems like you're not actually reading her words genuinely but just trying to angle them around what you perceive her as. 15:45 makes this clear as you condescendingly for some reason explain to Madison what she literally just said thinking she's trying to say something different. Going further you seem to still genuinely try to understand her which is maybe an issue with the format of your show, but it will probably turn some potential viewers off of your material as since you deal with celebrity memoirs a lot of people who find your stuff are going to be the ones who are interested or have read it so I think that’s a thing you should try to keep in mind. Even if the overall view would be negative at the end of it at this point in your video you’ve not laid out the reasons why for someone who’s coming from a positive or neutral view of the author.
It's pretty incredible you deem her entire career and what she says as a lie simply because you believe there's a discrepancy between what her numbers are on a platform vs. another. She's doing literally nothing different from any other pop musician but because of some arbitrary number (36 mil Instagram followers vs. 12 mil monthly Spotify listeners) that means she's a liar. There are so many artists that would be absolutely overjoyed to have their posts on Instagram and Tiktok get as much traction and it would not in any way take away from their careers in the music industry. Those are just superficial metrics that don't have any meaning to the hard work and dedication people put in. One of my favorite musicians died penniless with their music being totally unknown while now a couple of decades later their music is celebrated as a work of poetic genius and being a major influence on a ton of other famous musicians. They're also described by being very good looking, I can only imagine living today you'd look at their Instagram following and dismiss them as an artist simply based on that.
And in parts it really seems you're just reading line by line trying to take everything without the whole context of her book. She's explained the story about her being signed for example and you for some reason go line by line inserting your hearsay in between. Like her mother knew Scooter Braun from high school for some reason, even though obviously her mother is 15 years older than Braun.
Some of the misconceptions you seem to have about the book I feel like could be addressed by watching Madison's recent episode on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Additionally, the fact that the book is a memoir of her experiences means that it doesn't necessarily need to explain every single thing in great detail. And that to me also feels like what could be a fair criticism. There's a lot of things she's been very public about that isn't explained in this book that you don't seem to have a charitable interpretation on. So the book is very much for a curious fan or someone who wants to take a look at a young pop star's struggles and not so much for anyone who comes at this feeling like she's a lying industry plant that has only listened to rumours and not followed her journey.
I for example have only followed her because of the connection I felt to music she's put out 2019 onwards and because of the interviews I've heard where she discusses her mental health struggles, the only auto/biographies of entertainers I've read have been about ones whose art has meant a lot to me. That’s where it seems based on this episode while there’s a lot of interesting stuff you share on it you don’t seem very empathetic towards a lot of her viewpoints because you’ve already formed an opinion which may not really be based on much, it’s the the life of the author after all, they probably have a better understanding of it if you’re taking them at their word. And if you’re not I think there need to be concrete reasons why and you need to show that discrepancy much better than you did here.
Some examples would be how she's talked about eating disorders and all of the other rumours you seem to take as truth. Like she's obviously gotten work done, except of course if you're actually familiar with her she's talked about getting lip filler as young as 15 and the rest is just bundled in as nonsense masquerading as the truth as another hateful jab at her. Doesn't matter how many times qualified surgeons talk about how it's her nose, no matter how many times she shows how people use angles to say she had a nose job or continues to get filler (look up a tutorial on how she overlines her lips) or how every time she waxes her eyebrows she's clearly gotten a brow lift even though again she's showed how she does it again and again.
Overall clearly I enjoyed the episode even if I disagreed a lot but the tone also has me very scared of clicking on say Sinead O’Connor’s episode, if you were this harsh on some of the things Madison said I’m dreading what you’d say on that. This helped me get some of my own thoughts on the book, normally I feel like I would keep this piece just in my notes as usual but there are few positives that I feel like you’ll get better at more episodes down the line.

Don’t agree with the part where you are like she is an influencer. No, she blew up with music. Her fame was already related to music from the beginning. People like Addison Rae blow up and than release a single that has no meaningful lyrics with a basic beat. Where Madison has a whole debut album that is a pretty personal work. Please try to be a little accurate on your point.

16:20 of course she not just gonna post singing videos on social media all the time most artists post pictures of Themselves too without being called just a influencer like Olivia Rodrigo and many others do too so please do not compare Madison beer to Addison Rae when they have completely different story’s on getting famous also Madison has a very close connection with her fans and social media is a way to connect with them so why she delete social media…

Calling her a "TH-camr" unfortunatly drops you in the have no idea what your talking about section. The amount of guessed assumptions you make about the book in the first 5 mins is crazy!

What is she? A Internet personality? A tik toker? Does she sing occasionally, yes. But every internet famous person sings and has tours. No one knows Madison Beer for being a good singer they know her for being pretty.

@@NomNomGirl1 Madison is a very talented singer and I have seen her on tour! People that "know her for being pretty" Are pretty shallow people!

@@NomNomGirl1I literally know her for her music, she's such a talented artist. People being superficial is not her fault nor takes away the fact that she's a singer 😂

Every musician has social media now, though? Is the identity you get stamped with depend purely on the first impression the public has of you? This point doesn’t even work with Madison’s case because she quite literally launched straight into music at like 14.
Making and directing music videos for the better part of the decade. It’s been a pretty organic progression. I like how her stuff isn’t as calculated/immature now because the cookie cutter management she had as a teen dropped her and she’s been curating her music and image more authentically recently.
Now someone like Olivia rodrigo who had an acting stint…is she only now considered an actress and influencer because she got traction in that field first?
Being a musician or being an actress or on social media isn’t this mutual exclusive thing.
I’ve been indifferent to Madison for a number of years and my general sentiment is that I was grossed out with how the public treats her.
After seeing her new music and normal, candid behaviour I do think she’s likeable and harmless and whatever social faux pas she’s committed in the past has been an overblown reaction in context of her age at the time.
I think people are really self centred where they literally won’t let a person have an identity within their field if they don’t personally like it or them. I don’t like her and her songs so she’s not a real musician type of beat. Like???

I find Madison pretty interesting and I think you’re right that in the future people will kind of use her a “case study” of what *not* to do. I was also shocked at the amount of crap she got from her “team”. Nice episode!

Absolutely horrified that no one protected her when she was younger! Also I completely understand how or why she would believe it but the idea that anyone would be MORE in touch with reality because they got famous young actually made me laugh out loud. Great episode as always :)

The obvious lack of background knowledge about the artist's life accompanied by the assumptions made without consideration of the contexts, poor choice of wordings and judgemental attitudes is just not it. If you both are going to critique a person's work, at least have informative research and recognition of your personal biases of them before doing a full episode.

I was so excited to come across your channel, and I loved your Julia Fox video. But honestly, this is unbearable to watch, repeatedly, calling her an influencer instead of a musician, and all the other comments just left a bad taste in my throat. If you’re talking about not liking the structure of the book that’s valid, but some of these comments just seem rude.
