I trust India more than China, and don't mind supporting their economy as much as I mind funding the CCP, so I wouldn't mind getting an Indian car as much as I would a Chinese one.

(Edit: since someone decides to make it personal, I'll just say I thought about boycotting Indian goods but realized literally nothing I ever use is India-made or Indian brand. I recommend before trying to build Indian cars just build some toilets first. And people used to talk about air pollution in China, but now basically that is the only area where India has surpassed China. Manned space mission, moon landing, mars landing, space station, China has accomplished all four now while India has none. Finally, now that RCEP is taking effect without India, indian companies can only dream about competing in this 30 trillion dollar market) yeah, the evil CCP that lifted hundreds of millions of Chinese out of poverty and into middle class without their consent. bathe in self-perceived moral superiority as much as you want, but don't pretend like when you google "modi muslim" the first results that come up are "modi loves muslim".

For the people watching this, I'm Indian, and own & drive EV in Indian roads. Few things to know:
    1. Altroz EV is slated to hit the market in H2-2022, with a 30.2 kWh battery pack, and range of roughly 350 km in standard conditions. So the real world range will be about 260-280 km in Indian conditions.
    2. eKUV1OO is nothing but a KUV1OO with the battery pack and motor of Reva, the first plug-in EV on Indian roads. Not likely to be sold in huge numbers unless they play with the specs
    3. Suzuki WagonR EV is nowhere in the horizon. Maruti Suzuki seems to have lost interest in launching EV now, but would rather develop more CNG models.
    4. Sierra EV, that's the big one from TaMo. Was slated to be launched in H2-2023, apparently, after the departure of Mr. Pratap Bose, it has been pushed for late 2024, early 2025 launch. I agree, she's a beauty. She'll also come with a 5 star Global NCAP rating, but may not be comparable to Euro NCAP 5 stars. Expecting a battery pack of 40 kWh, and range of 400-450 km, and a long range version with larger pack.
I've been driving Tata Nexon EV for last 9 months. 30.2 kWh pack. I'm getting a real world range of 250-260 km in Summer, 280-300 km in winters. If Nexon EV is anything to go by, Sierra EV will be a big hit. The price point of Sierra is expected to be in the range of 25000 £ to 35000 £. So, not really cheap when you compare to other EVs in world market.

I am from India, and have driven Tata Nixon EV about 150 Kms. I have also driven Tesla and Toyota Prius in US. I think Indian companies are doing right thing for India i.e. not to go after those fancy features like driverless driving. If they get the range in the vicinity of 400 Kms (which is about max you can drive in India in a day) then Indian market is huge.

@@mas13ish1 Tata bought Jaguar from Ford when Jaguar was a dying dog. Tata practically brought it back to life, even after incurring massive losses on it. Tata has a habit of buying out loss making entities and then turning them back to profitable. Take Air India for example. Tata doesn't only know how to make cars, it also knows how to make coffee (Starbucks), steel (biggest supplier of steel), running an airline (Air India, Air Vistara, among a couple others), and a bazillion other things. So I don't think Tata knows how to make a car because they bought Jaguar, I think Tata knows how to run a company in general.

How about snap on covers like mobile phones that you can change yourself after a small accident? Also, I would like two-way contacts for powersupply on adventures to remote areas. The Sono Sion looks like a promising break from status symbol cars, but I wonder how expensive it will be to scratch the solar cells on the sides when you have a parking accident, like one I just had with my Zoe. We cannot even get a road legal Mahindra ICE Jeep here in the U.S. So, EVs from India or China are not likely to arrive here anytime soon. HOWEVER, it would be great to see them sold here in supply large enough to make domestic car makers more well behaved.

Hope you’re right about the last car - ie it will get put into production. Original styling and decent range - what’s not to like ?? (Although I’m sure it’s price will get substantially inflated by all manner of import taxes & VAT if it ever gets as far the UK) Pity, I’d buy one in a heartbeat……..

  • @neillgatley8770

As the steering wheel is on the right, someone should want to import some of them to the UK and Ireland. If you were looking at an old leaf or Zoe as a second car, one of these with a warranty would sell. Look up how quickly a leaf sells. This could be a good business models for someone.

    • @Ausf

Is it legal to do that though? They don't meet safety standards for the year they were produced in the UK, so you're unlikely to get them road legal.

In india the main cut throat competition is in E two wheelers. And there are soo many orders of electric scooty that companies are struggling to keep up with the demand. And in PV wheelers only TATA is the only one with super efficient technology.

Yesterday, Tata announced that they have upgraded their Tata Nexon EV which had been launched 2 years ago (yes, Tata Nexon EV is already running in tens of thousands on Indian roads since past 2 years) Now onwards, the battery of Tata Nexon EV has been upgraded to provide 30% more mileage and even better safety and comfort. As it is, the earlier Tata Nexon EV was having excellent 5 star Global NCAP safety rating and was quite comfortable. So, all good news from Tata. This is possible because Tata has created a huge manufacturing plant in India for producing car battery for EV, thus kicking out Chinese car battery reliance completely from India. Now onwards, you will hear rapid progress of electric vehicles in India, because basic battery requirements are going to be met by Tata within India itself. By the way, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV (that boxy car) has been cancelled last week, because it's mileage had become outdated in comparison to Tata Nexon EV as well as other Tata EV cars presently being sold in India. In fact, there are 5 different models EV cars of Tata alone being manufactured and sold in very good quantities in India. If I were to purchase new EV in India, I would purchase new improved Tata Nexon EV. However, if I could wait 3 months, than I would prefer Tata Altroz EV when it soon gets improved battery and mileage 30% further boast like it's sister car Tata Nexon got yesterday. But Altroz looks more beautiful and sleek and modern than Nexon.

  • @mas13ish1
    @mas13ish1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I would totally by the Tata Altroz. That range estimate is right where I need to be to get almost a full week of driving without charging, and the price is amazing. I was strongly considering a Ford Maverick, but don't really want that payment. I also would rather have a SUV than a pickup truck. It boggles my mind that Ford is selling the base Maverick for $20,000, but the Bronco Sport it is based on is like $10,000 more. It is crazy to me. I would love to see some affordable EVs hit the US market. The options right now are awful.

No way the Tata Sierra will be as cheap as you hope. It will definitely cost a lot more. Plus if they do decide to bring it to market, it’s going to take a while to get to Europe as it will take years to fulfill demand in India, this car was super popular back in the day.

I think that the Tata Altroz Ev is the best of the bunch here. It looks better than the others and has a good range. In time they might upgrade the battery a bit. The battery is OK at the moment. It is good enough certainly for the price. If the range was improved it would be very good.

If your views on these cars come to fruition, then it will REALLY shake up the EV market here in the UK. But if Chinese models are anything to go by, then the car that's £10,000 in India will probably be twice that or more when it gets here. Tata and Co are businesses. They will extract as much as they can from the UK market. I really hope I'm wrong (not least because I can't afford an EV at the moment and so I am really keeping everything crossed that somebody will actually deliver the sub £15,000 car that huge numbers of people here are waiting for!!).
On the plus side, your videos are really among the most entertaining on TH-cam. The channel is brilliant. Keep up the good work!

I don't see cars ever touching those prices again. At least in the US. Only way you'd get close to that price is you order the vehicle from the home country and they've already had the DoT crash testing and you pay for the import duties and go through the trouble to have the Vehicle registered in your state.
