    A few years ago we bought a Chevy Spark EV. Best decision ever.. $7500 used with 30000 miles. Yes it’s mostly driven around town but is good for 65 miles.
    Something non-eEV owners should know before the buy is in a cold climate the heater cuts down on the range quite a bit. Oddly the A/C uses little power and will freeze you out in 100 degree weather. Another consideration is check out the charging rate for the car. Paying extra for the DC fast charge option is worth it.

    Most of these cars are designed for city dwellers. But if you live in a city you can make well above median income and still not be able to afford any of these. Setting that aside, many people can only afford one car so even if there's only one driver most of the time the car still needs to be able to seat 4 comfortably. If you live in a northern city, AWD is a must because you can't afford to waste your charge on unavoidable slippage & wheelspin caused by snow. Many of these cities also have bad roads so decent ground clearance is another must. In many countries cars share the roads with trucks. That makes visibility a necessity and that means height. Then there're demographics: Older people are more likely to be able to afford these vehicles so easy entrance & egress is another requisite feature.
    To put it all together....
    Would it really kill all these EV companies to make a vehicle with in-wheel motors at all the way around, have decent ground clearance, be tall enough to allow a 185cm middle-aged man to get in and out easily, seat 4 full-sized adults, and have solar panels on the roof to charge the batteries a bit whenever the car is in the sun?
    Seriously, it's like none of these companies have anyone on their design teams responsible for making sure the cars fit real world use situations.

    • @AndreVanKammen
      @AndreVanKammen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      X bus ofroad version has most of it. But it only seats 3 inclusing the driver due to regulations. Regulations in all the different countries make it hard to make a car that does all and have a reasonable price. I'm waiting for the used car marked for EV's to grow before I would buy one. Some of the cars in the video make a nice second car for if my kids are older. But my kids would first need to get a specific AM4 license or a moped license here in the Netherlands to drive the small car. We are geting an insane amount of different type of licencing and regulation here, for every vehicle type different rules.

    • @fatalvenomX
      @fatalvenomX ปีที่แล้ว

      The only car in the works that meets the conditions of space for 4 and generating enough solar energy to actually get significant range off it is the light year but that is very expensive being in the 100k range. There is the sion which is affordable but it more supplements it’s range with solar and they have yet to talk about selling in the us. Aptera has talked about making a solar powered 4 seater with enough success from the two seater vehicle they’re getting ready to release but who knows when that’ll happen if it even does happen.
      Most companies are focused on either converting their ice offerings into evs or packing as many features and performance into new designs where as making solar work requires a focus on maximizing efficiency that results in bizarre designs that’ll often lack some of the creature comforts of other new cars in its price bracket or a slow more normal looking car that uses super expensive top of the line components to compensate. It’s basically like building a car for hypermiling.

      @@fatalvenomX yeah a smart person would design a minimum car with solar option.
      But you won't see it. because everyone is taught to like bling.
      I would buy a 4 seater that is striped down and had solar panels. If I could afford it.
      gees I have a early 90s geo metro 3cyl.
      That is a stripped down car. hand crank windows, ect ect. I've considered making it electric and solar.
      I need something that has at least a 300 mile drive range. otherwise I can't get to the grocery store and back home. And ground clearance would be nice also.
      I would for go the all wheel drive. and just buy a boat winch and quick connect on front and back. because I only need it for my 12 mile "driveway".
      extra motors means extra weight. which turns into less range and power.

      Anyway, EVs are just more expensive than traditional cars, at least for the time being. The more popular they get, and the more battery tech improves (esp. coming up with an alternative to lithium batteries that do the job just as well or better), the costs will come down further.

      Are you talking about disaster scenarios? Because in that case the gasoline cars would be fucked too. Gasoline production would be very much impacted if the economy collapses. People with combustion cars would NOT go to places with them, because fuel would be very expensive and they would want to save it for generators, or what's more likely for most people, sell it to buy food.
      Microcars are far more energy efficient (whether electric or combustion), so it's more likely that a microcar would actually be used compared to a normal-size car. But motorcycles are even more so, and bicycles (including electrically assisted ones) even more.
      Bicycles would become by far the most superior vehicle for urban transportation. You can carry a lot of groceries just fine on an utility e-bike, or propane tanks, big water bottles, a passenger or whatever you would want to carry. I'm not talking about those bicycles which people have in the US which are desgined just for sports and recreation, i mean an actual utility bicycle with a cargo rack on the back (and preferably on the front too), and a motor more powerful than a person.

    The heater will be resistive and the A/C is a heat pump, so the efficiency is at least 300% better on the A/C. Newer electrics are reverse cycling the a/c for heat.

    I prefer a vehicle that my dog, a friend or my grand children and I can get into and take parcels and or groceries home in my trunk and less than 15 mins. to gas up to get 400 miles of range.. Any extra weight on EV's reduce their range. I enjoy drives in remote areas so one can forget that pleasure in life. And I don't have tons of spare time to charge a EV or wait in their lineups. I wonder how they'll stand up to a crash with a larger vehicle? It is interesting to note that pertoleum makes the shells for these cars and all plastics. Diesel generators powers their charging stations since electricity has yet to be harvested from thin air. Plus the huge diesel machines that have to move and sift 50 tons or more of dirt and ore to get enough litium for ONE EV litium battery which creates far more pollution than gas or diesel vehicles. Then there's the slave labor they don't admit to in China and the Congo. Anything to keep the west from being fuel indeopendant. And oh, I almost forgot, the infrastructure which cannot handle folks charging their EV's and heating or cooling their homes at the same time. I pass on these trendy EV's!

    When you're speaking of affordable, someone should address the fact that some states, like the state of Georgia, have a tax called the Alternative Vehicle Fuel Tax. Electric car owners will pay over $200 a year just for owning an EV. This actually amounts to a disincentive to owning an electric car.

    None of the EVs are what their advertised costs are. The Wuling Mini EV is really 16000k. You can buy one for 16000. I think the expectation of the Ev incentives are added to this, but they are ending. The company and reviewers are doing everyone a grave disservice, talking about a base price 16000. It is a huge huge step to go from 4k to 16000. I find this to be false advertising. And makes me want to be wary of Wuling

    Very impressive. These are truly the solution to fighting climate change because of how many people can afford them… And also because the process of making each of them uses far less carbon than the process of making a Tesla. Tesla‘s are far larger so sourcing the raw materials for each Tesla creates far more carbon, then shipping the materials creates far more carbon, then manufacturing the parts creates for more carbon, then shipping the parts creates far more carbon, then manufacturing the car creates far more carbon and shipping the final product creates far more carbon.
