My green cheek conure passed away a couple months ago and now I've started looking into getting a smaller bird and english budgies sound amazing! Nothing could ever replace my Blueberry, but they sound like a perfect little bird.
I have an English called Geoffrey He is on the quiet side, but I encourage him to fly around x He is very sweet and about 1.5 years old now xx He is green and yellow xxx Struggling to get him to eat veg and fruit, but keep trying x I also bath him in warm water, as he will not bathe himself...have tried a few different methods. I usually place him in a sink with some warm water and let him run around. I am not sure why he does not bathe himself, (if I put a bowl in the cage etc), I think because he was aviary-bred, and never learned how to do it, or he just does not really like water maybe ?? It is warm here in Australia, so I bath him on a warm day, and put him outside to dry off, and gently use a towel etc if inside. I am not sure of his life before we met, maybe that is the reason he wont eat fresh, as he was never offered fresh food as a baby etc.
If you haven't tried it yet, put some torn up lettuce leaves or spinach in a shallow bowl of water. Our English budgies seem to like hopping in with the lettuce and splashing about to wash, which they don't seem to do without the leaves in the water. Don't be put off if they ignore it at first, as it took ours a week or two for them to get used to it. As regards their diet, which is typically one of unhealthy cheap seeds that breeders have raised them on, you can try chopping up vegetables finely and mixing them in with their seed, then gradually increasing the veg and reducing the seed content, which can help ween them off seeds. We've found our English budgies became a lot more active, after changing their diet, and they even started to fly properly, so we can tell they're getting healthier. Also, vitamin drops in their water seem to have a positive effect on them.

@@Theghostswithin No worries, I am glad to pass on anything we've learned with our birds. Actually, thinking about it, have you tried bathing your budgie with a plant mister? Some birds prefer to be sprayed with a fine mist, rather than splashing in a bowl of water, especially in summer, when it's hot. If you ever see them perched, holding their wings a little bit open in warm weather, it means they're too hot, so that's a good time to get the plant mister out and give them a spray, as it cools them down and they generally seem to appreciate it.

I was wondering, why is my budgie scared of her baby budgie? we put the baby and the mother in a cage and the mother doesnt want to interact with the baby, and when the mother found an escape she flew away from the baby. the baby isnt newborn and it has feathers but it still needs to grow a bit to get all of its feather.
I bought a new budgie just 2 weeks ago, i didnt know anything about english budgies and i just found out that they existed today. I guess my english budgie got mistakenly put in the wild budgies cage at the pet store when i bought him, i got pretty heartbroken when i found out about their heart problems and realized that my buddy wont live that long. Hello, I am relatively new to budgie care. I have been doing some research and I have a decent understanding about blood feather problems that will eventually happen to every budgie. I was wondering if you could advise me in more detail about what to do or not do when facing broken blood feathers. Currently one of my budgies just dropped a blood feather...however it looks like it possibly broke out instead of a clean pluck from preening...I am a bit concerned if part of the sheath is still attached to the wing (it was one of the medium sized wing tip feathers). He isn't bleeding out so I am not panicking at the moment. Actually he seems quite happy and flying around, eating, singing songs etc. I am hesitant to do anything because he isn't completely trained yet (he will eat from my hand and will hop onto a stick for transport, but I haven't gotten him to completely trust my hands without food and I don't want to ruin that slow progress by handling him for a feather inspection if there is actually no need). So, IF the feather did break and a bit is still on the wing...but it has clotted...will he likely be able to preen and/or take care of it himself? Or must I intervene regardless? I am a bit concerned if he could reopen it. Note: His wing is white so the blood I have seen was in the feather itself that dropped and like two sprinkles of blood on another feather (possibly rubbed off when feather came off). There has been 0 blood squirting out or dripping on other feathers...such that had I not seen the dropped feather...I wouldn't be able to tell there was a problem. Also one other thing I just thought about...the feather he dropped...the broken end was not actively dripping blood. seemed clotted, before it came off...I don't know how relevant that might be. When i was young like 8 years old I used to have a pair of budgies one year later the two budgies became 12 I just kept breeding them I was very happy and taking care of them but my biggest mistake is keeping them in the balcony because there is rats that can climb walls I don't know how one of the rats opened the cage... So yeah I woke up to see a blood bath of budgies heads just 2 survived the attack but they have injuries all over there bodies and they died Imagine a nine year old kid seeing all off his pets die and there heads laying in the cages it was disgusting I cried so much but now I want to keep one again but take care of him and don't do mistakes like what I did🥲

Heya, I am just another commenter passing by. Birds have pretty different kind of illnesses than mammals do, so please consider to take your bird to ornithologist, or contact them online. If the vet said budgie has "cold" and didn't do an x-ray, poop, blood or other analysis, then they might gave you not very effective medicine. Bird lung infections can develop very slowly for months and the period of healing it is long too. Sometimes it means months of giving few medications right into their mouth or even muscle injections (not just mixing it with their incage water source) When my bird had lung infection, I've given her 3 types of medicine into her beak daily for 6 months. And the only visible sign of the illness was missing voice. Not to scare you, but usually vets don't know much about birds to give them proper meds. If you doubt the help was professional, I am sure you can find ornithologist online, who can help you. Providing sun bathes is good for your bird, good luck with it!
@@silverbloodwolf98 thanks for writing all that but I have 6 budgies two pairs one pair is fine but the other pair the male Cloudy is fine but the female Seashell she had a cold and they have four kids one kid which is a male Blackberry also had a cold I gave Blackberry medicine he is fine now but Seashell has gotten worse cause she doesn't drink her medicine I feed her some meds so I hope she gets fine I also have to take care of my other pair Waterfall and Nature cause Nature laid two eggs so pls pray they will get better

If she gets worse, take her immediately to the vet (so better to prep and find the good vet around that can help criticla bird) I hope they will be good! If she is nesting make sure she has everything needed and kept super clean, guess you know the stuff 😊 and if the med helped with similar symptoms before, it might be helping. I am using a thin tube from the catheter (the plastic tube into which the needle is inserted) to give medicine. It is super small and fits on 1 ml injector instead of the regular needle. So you get like, a super tiny plastic tube injector you can put into your budgie mouth :D

They are the same bird, same spieces, one has been bred for show which means larger size.

i have 2 budgies, i went for vacation with my brother and mom, and left the budgies with my dad and grandparents. i came yesterday and went to their cage , I noticed something strange and called my mother. i started crying and my father told me that the budgies I was most bonded was dead 4 days ago and he swapped him with another budgie of the same color so that I wouldn't come to know, and I spent the next hour crying, his name was mango, and I named the new budgie mango in his memory.
