  • S24 Ultra 4 Months Later, do I regret it?
It's been 120 days since the galaxy S24 Ultra has been released, and while I've had a lot to say about it in the past, this long-term review sums up my HONEST recent experience with the S24 Ultra 4 months later.

Why do you complain about Samsung prices but not Apple prices. It really gets on my nerves. You will see youtubers justifying Apple product crazy prices but when it comes to Android the price is suddenly unbearable?

    • @ralphkleinguevarra

Because Android phones have cheaper variants with almost same performance, Apple on the other hand doesn't have a competition with the same hardware+software bundle. Some Android flagship phones or high-end (not flagship) phones has the same chip with lesser features like a little bit downgraded screen but overall, android competes on its own market that's why they complain about Samsung's prices. Oneplus for example offers greate value android phones, other brands too. But Samsung raises their prices to match Apple's.

For one samsung phones are WAY more expensive than iPhones now. The ultra costs more where I am and the z fold 4 is like the cost of 2 iPhones
The bad thing is the resale value on androids is trash. So you pay a lot for Samsung. But after only 6 months the phone is worth less than half sometimes
With an iPhone. It costs a lot. But still less than Samsung now. AND the resale value is way way higher. So you actually spend less in the long run. For essentially a better working device

    • @Donadzea
      @Donadzea 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@OJxiii Try iPhone and Samsung and you will understand. Siri, apple wallet, photo/video, shape/size, AirPods and so on. You can not name Samsung alternative for these that have better quality.

I picked up the S24 Ultra about 6 weeks ago, and I love it. It's the best phone I've ever used. I'm not a power user, I get texts, emails, check some social media, and that's really it. I don't even get to an hour of screen on time a day. That said, when I got the phone I got a little over 1 days worth of battery life, but something changed a few weeks back, maybe and update, but I can easily get close to 3 days now. I've never seen that on a smartphone. I really liked your review, though. Very well done and thought out. 🔋

The update didn't turn on battery saver by any chance?
I've always run with battery saver mode enabled on my previous S23 Ultra and on my current Galazy Z Flip 5. I genuinely do not notice any difference in how the phone runs or performs, but the battery life is extended dramatically.
I took my Flip 5 off charge at 6:30 AM this morning - it's now 2:00 AM (roughly 20 hours later and my battery is still on 85% after a day of fairly regular use. When I had battery save turned off I was getting to 60% or so by around 3:00 PM. I had similar battery life increases when enabling battery save on my S23 Ultra too.

Tech reviews are under embargo for awhile after release. creators cant say anything negative about the product or do in depth reviews comparing it to other phones until that contract date is up. That's why when phones come out you only see "first look" or "what I love about x device" You'll notice after a few weeks/months all these reviews start super positive and slowly get more honest and in depth after the embargo is up.

    • @OneNiftyBoi
      @OneNiftyBoi 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@mikemorrill4670 There's that and also the fact that one needs to use some devices for a longer time to form a conclusive opinion about them. Some get software updates after release that make the user experience better or worse, so that needs to be mentioned in review.

I'm getting about 36 hours of estimated battery with the s24u, but I always put it to charge when it's around 30%. It seems to me that after getting below 40%, the battery drains much faster. I wish there was a way to get a much more detailed information about exactly what processes are draining the battery. The report of battery usage in the settings just don't show background processes that are running. For example, I wish I could know exactly how much Samsung Health, the pairing with my watch5 and buds2, 5G network and some widgets are really impacting battery life.

If you use your device heavily for streaming, the battery is supposed to last 5 hours ( 5 hours of streaming) between charges.
You can stretch the battery life by turning off apps running in the background, turning on dark mode, and by turning off animations. If there's an option to turn off the pen, try that as well.
My only issue is that the fingerprint doesn't work with my screen protector.

There's been alot of TH-camrs that are mainly Android user's that have made videos on how to optimize your phone for battery 🔋 without losing performance. It seems to solve any battery issues that many are having. The thing I don't think many who switch to Android from Apple don't realize is Android is a very complex system. The freedom on Android is not even comparable to Apple. This comparisons of Apple to Android it's not even comparable. Apple ecosystem consists of like 10 devices. Samsung ecosystem close to 100 devices not even counting it's compatibility with microsoft and google. Apple has control over everything. Samsung/Android you have control over everything. You don't like something on Android you change it. Apple you don't like something... you hope for Apple to change it next year 🤷‍♂️

You and I are in the same situation. I had the 15 Pro Max then went to the Pixel 8 Pro then the S24 Ultra back to the Pixel 8 Pro and then back to the S24 Ultra and then back to the 15 Pro Max. What killed the S24 Ultra this time was the Google watch and its missed notifications. What killed the Pixel 8 Pro was the frequently dropped wifi and cellular connections which then led to it not being activatable.

I have the S24, P8P, 15 PM. My current DD is the P8P. However, I picked up my 15PM again, and just updated it and checked some apps to compare. I'm disgusted by how most apps are better on the 15PM. I mean, even the GOOGLE apps work, look, and feel MUCH better than on my P8P!! WTH?? But the only two phones out of the 3 that are useable for me is the P8P and 15PM. For whatever ungodly reason, the S24 just can't hang with the other two's cameras for what I mainly use them for (low light scene with moving objects, i.e., pets, people). When I try to use settings I find online, they don't work as great as just the simple point and shoot results I get with the P8P and 15PM. After futzing around with my 15PM again, I'm having serious doubts about remaining with android. What keeps me with my P8P right now though, is the Google set of features which have spoiled me. The call screening, the anti-spam messaging filters, even the little feature of 'what's playing' on the bottom of my lock screen. I never realized how much I used and appreciate that little feature until I use my S24 phone. For me and my needs, the S24 isn't an option. It's just a battle between my P8P and 15PM now.

The S24 Ultra has pulled me away from iPhones for the mongers time so far (almost 4 months) but I recently started using my iPhone 15 pro Max again and I’m hooked by how quick I get things done on it. I even have customised my 1 Home Screen that I used by themed icons (one page for day/light mode and one for dark/night mode) and I can’t get off of it.
I still pick up my S24U every now and then and think how beautiful of a phone, but I just love some of the Apps and how they look/perform on iOS (Flighty, Pretty Progress, Fantastical, Timeline, etc…) and actually with iOS was in the body of the S24U ! lol (Crazy, I know).
Finally, about the battery, completely agree and I think the May update that came late March ruined it ! But I got my last update May 16th and I think it has restored battery back to a significant improvement.

But tbh performance wise for day to day use it performs almost identical to my S22 FE. Screen is more solid and love the square cornering on the screen . I bought this phone for gaming and still checking it out . Going to use steam link and update this post . But if ur using ur phone for day to day use without heavy demand . Ur not going to notice much of an improvement. This phone is built for specifics for people that know and need them . Average users would just be wasting they're time and money imo if ur not very tech handy. ALSO very importantly imo the fingerprint scanner is VERY touchy!! First screen i got wouldnt detect my fingerprint at all. 2nd one that said its compatible did work but its still about 50/50 success rate .. i recommend buying a name brand screen even tho its expensive. Amazon screens or 3rd party screens dont wory very well. Its SUPER sensitive

Huh, another content creator with the DJI mic. Those things must be popping off. I am seeing them everywhere!
    ---
I decided to switch to Android recently out of frustration with the iPad situation. Not the dots. I just really, really want a laptop I can draw on. So Instead of just going Surface Pro to replace the iPad, I'm switching everything Apple to the best counterpart. I figured I'm tired of the bullshit of ecosystem chains, and I'm going to just go for the best product for my specific use case and then hopefully mesh them all together.
I'm torn on the S24 Ultra so far. It's obviously the best for my use case coming with the S-pen, but I am not a fan of the design compared to the Apple. There wasn't a white or gold version (rubber duck yellow is not gold). And those corners dig into my hand. I was used to a bigger phone with the iPhone Pro Max, but something about the curved button just makes it easier to hold.
Right now my biggest problem with Android (which I hope to solve one day), is that notifications don't stay on my Always On Display. If I get a text message, if I'm lucky it'll flash it on the top. But then it just disappears into an icon in a list of icons.
I want it to display the first line or two of the message passively, all the time on Always on Display until I read it. I like being able to have my phone sitting in my office and being able to glance at it. See who the sender is, and if I need to respond. But right now it's just an Icon, and I have no idea if it's important or not until I physically unlock the phone.
I don't like that the power button is on the opposite side of the iPhone.
I've yet to mess with pay features, but we'll see. I used Apple Pay a lot, but I haven't taken my new phone out yet to test it.
The speakers are noticeably worse than the iPhones. Sadness, but not a dealbreaker.
Ultimately, I'd rather have "good enough" then simply impossible. My two biggest gripes with Apple recently is that I really want the Apple Pencil to work with the iPhone. God it would be ironic if they made the iPhone 16 work with the new Apple Pencil, but unlikely."
And the second issue is, I just don't want to carry two items, a Macbook and an iPad with me when I travel. I basically need a laptop that I can draw on. And Windows very much preferred.
