You could have brought up the dangers of pointing the laser at the eyes of yourself or your reptile. Judging the average age of your viewers makes you realize the necessity of it.
True, didn't think about that. The packaging had it written a few times, along with all of the papers inside. They even sent me an email after ordering with warning information, so hopefully anyone buying will notice. But we can use this as a PSA... KIDS! DON'T POINT THE LASERS IN THE EYES OF HUMAN OR NON-HUMAN ANIMALS!
When he threw the spray bottle and zoomed in I died laughing because I pictured that with the seinfeld theme song in the background or is that just me?
I have been keeping snakes and lizards for 12 years with NO thermostat and I have never had a problem with heat. also I did used to have a thermo for my snake and he almost died cuz it malfunction when I was at work for 9 hours
I'm able to get some of my animal's temps just right without a thermostat, but they really handy. The newer ones, like the Zilla brand has an automatic cut-off if it hits a certain temperature or overheats.
I’m have a beardie.. my dad actually had a temperature gun before and when I got him and he lets me keep it when he’s not using it! It’s REALLY useful.. highly recommended!
Noah's Ark Exotics yikes hope they’re better now. As soon as he said something about how strong the smell was I kinda knew it probably isn’t the best product…
Though I have kept a schedule, dechlorinated water and a humidity gauge/ thermostat, and have heard of the reptile timer and using latex/ plastic gloves, I haven’t heard of the scanner or the humidity spray-. And oh boy, do I wish I would have known about these early on when keeping reptiles/ amphibians! Thank you for taking the unconventional route with the supplies! Though the usual “spray bottle, disposable food dishes, heat lamps and paper towels” supply videos can be helpful to new herp keepers, and get the point across, its nice to see a video that helps not only beginners, but can be useful for more well-immersed keepers as well!
Chuck Horne where can you find one and are they accurate and worth the money? ive never heard of these and this might be the single most needed accessory
Solarmeter seems to be the brand I see mentioned most for the hobby. They come in several versions within different accuracies, one - the 6.2 I believe, is marketed specifically for UVB reptile lamps. Amazon.com and on-line reptile supply stores carry them - about $250!
first of all, i know this is an old video, but these are super informative! and you're really funny so its easy to pay attention and gain information. thanks so much!
in just the few months i have followed you on here, i have to say you keep improving your self , you are right up with with major breeders for standards they have with the care of their animals .All you have to do now is just get more reptiles . :)
Dude, you're awesome. Bought my first common ball python this week, and have been using your videos prior to my purchase to help my animal stay healthy and learning more every day. Keep it up
thermostats are a must with snakes I order offline because only store near me sells them they charge almost 60 a piece for the 1000 watt with 3 outlets and 50 fir 500 watt single outlet
I know this is really old, but try checking their website. I went to a petco, the thermostat was priced at 60something, but on their website it was like 40. I just showed the cashier and they gave it to me for 40
You can buy the light timers a lot cheaper at Wal-Mart. I use one of my enclosures, but I'm pretty sure they have ones that you can plug in multiple lights to
This is so helpful thank you! I really need to buy a timer thermometer for my Geckos heat mat and I should look in to the Zilla timers! I have one but it’s not Zilla and not specifically for reptiles so it keeps messing up, so I’m doing everything manually it’s so annoying! I’m also in to the thermostat that you showed in the beginning! I love watching your videos and Leopard Gecko Talk here on TH-cam! Pretty cat
European here, you can get thermostats for lights aswell, it just needs a dimmer/dimming function. The price goes up though, but again it worth it, with room temperatures fluctuating :D
I use a thermostat on my lights just fine. Habistat do a dimmer so it just dims the 75w bulb to where it will keep temperature constant :) my lights go off at night as snakes would naturally have a temp drop when the sun goes down so the stat gets the bulb nice and hot to bring the vivarium back up to temp when I turn it on in the morning then dims it to maintain temp throughout the day..... works well imho but does have to be a dimmer thermostat not a pulse....
For folks with lots of reptiles, it's worth it to get an ROI unit. I have one on my kitchen sink, and it's so much easier to instantly have safe water for myself and all my pets.
19 reptile species are getting legal, from 15th of August here in Norway. So I've been watching a ton of your videos for knowledge.. I'm probably going to get a corn snake, although the rainbow boa is beautiful it seems a bit more difficult to take care of.
I bought a herp stat 6 for 450 but I plan on breeding western hog nose snakes so I will need quite a bit of power out of that little thing for racks in the future but I just have 4 for now in tubs on their own heat mats
I'm sorry this doesn't relate to the video very well but I am getting a bearded dragon and I was wondering what is the best place to buy them. Sorry but you are the only reptile you tuber that I watch. Thank you!
Do you sell herping kits I’m thinking after corona virus going to another country to go herping as I can’t in England and it would be cool if you had those. Thankyou!
I honestly don't know. Lucy has been a great eater ever since her first feeding. I have heard of senting with tuna which seems simple, and also lizards, but I don't know how you would go about it.
Thanks :) And pugnado, I've heard some people have dipped their mice in chicken broth and it worked really well but i've never tried it so can't say for sure. Just make sure you don't throw out the broth after your next meal with chicken I guess
You could use the thermometer gun or whatever for fish too.Not cooking fish.Like for pet fish when yo don’t have a thermometer you could use it to check if the water is the right temperature.
I'm DYING. So far at #6 i have everything that is in this vid already down to the brands. And I'm sitting here thinking in sarcasm "what item that i currently own is going to be next? A thermostat?" Ah world.
Tho tbh after using this one i have become more of a fan of the iPower digital thermostats from BN Link just for the precise readings and clear adjustments that you get over the analog ones. And plus you can mount them to your wall by the enclosure, and i think that looks fancy.
Some of my own husbandry items that were not on this video but i feel are essential in any keeper's toolbox include: ·F10-SC veterinary sanitizer. I recommend carying both F10-SC, and F10-SCXD. The detergent in SCXD makes it a great all around reptile cleaner. It's my go to choice when doing my pet chores. Normal SC is just for sanitizing, so in practical use it must be used after the tank is cleaned with something else. To me that sounds like unnecessary hassle, but F10-SC is great for nebulizing herps with RI (when properly diluted in 1 to 250 parts cleaner to water ratio, do your research on how to nebulize properly) and having that weapon against RI in my Arsenal gives me major piece of mind. So i think it should be in everyone else's too. ·snake hooks of varying sizes ·betadine or reptile wound spray and non pain relieving Neosporin for any potential injuries especially if you feed live (pls don't feed live) · extra latching bins for soaking animals/storing animals while cleaning enclosures and trashy Tupperware designated ONLY for thawing rats. ·also gold, have a quality mini hand broom and dust pan. I love them. Lastly you can also keep journals for your animals to write down concerns you have when you have thm, questions you will get around to answering, observations of any new behaviors, and general info about shedding pooping eating and husbandry as you do it. That way, if you ever needed to look back on how you cared for an animal a year ago because your getting another like it and want a refresher of what it was like back then, you have the experience documented. Or if you are at a vet and you are trying to pinpoint problems in your husbandry or describe behaviors of your animals with the utmost clarity, descriptions in a journal can help the vet find out exactly what's wrong. And lastly if you've just had your animal for a while and am feeling a bit nostalgic the early entries in the book can just be fun to read. If not a little cringy. (Assuming your husbandry has improved over the years.) I have both my kingsnakes and texas black ratsnakes first sheds in their respective books. It's so cute because it reminds me how small they were. 💖 and it's honestly kinda cool to hold them next to it and really see how much they've grown. It totally gives you that proud scale mommy feeling.
Do you think aquarium conditioner would work the same way as the one specified for reptiles? I don't want to use it, just in case it could be harmful for the snake.
I don't know much about fish and I can't give a definite answer, but I feel like if water is good enough for fish, it should be good enough for reptiles. Just a guess though
they should make highend controllers for reptiles like the ones they make for saltwater aquariums ill be awesome to control the lights, heat mats and foggers from work and know the temperature and humidity by just looking at my phone ill be good for those who take care of lots of different reptiles. not trying to be lazy or anything but its also good to constantly know whats happening inside their enclosures.
Instead of retisafe I use an aquarium one that is much stronger meaning I do not use as much to fill up the gallons of water. It is also about the same price
Arizona Vivariums that’s not true at all where did u get this information I have not seen one person use a drainage layer if it’s not bio active and I’ve been researching reptiles for years
How would you know the exact amount of humidity that is in the tank? I'm still a little co fused as to how you would do that, since you said reptiles need very specific hear and humidity conditions
I can't find the schedule in the care guides, it only has a ball python, leopard gecko, and corn snake guides and links to videos. Am I missing something? Where should I go to find the reptile schedule?
You could have brought up the dangers of pointing the laser at the eyes of yourself or your reptile. Judging the average age of your viewers makes you realize the necessity of it.
True, didn't think about that. The packaging had it written a few times, along with all of the papers inside. Us herp kids are actually quite smart. My hero, loving friend and I friend are 2 of the best in our grade.(6th)
My friends and I are the best in our grade too.(6th)
Hey Alex, what bedding do you recommend for a ball python? Thanks :)
the Lazer can't get a reading of the air temperature tho, right? just surface temperature? so should I also get an air temp thermometer as well?
You had me dying at spray bottle 😂
Masse's Regius me tooooo omg XD I kept replaying it
Same I kept replaying it toi
Masse's Regius low-key replayed about 5 times yet still think it is funny 😂
Darth Regius nice
Same!
You forgot something, that every reptile owner needs a reptile
Snail Scholars you’re not funny
I thought it was kinda funny...
🤔
Is that what I was missing?
i new i was forgetting something
It. Blows my mind that you're probably only 15 and you're so educated. Go you dude!
Payton Barnett he's 17
Yolo xd
Payton Barnett he’s 18 turning 19 really soon
Jake Fulton he’s 20 now! Crazy how time flys
Hes 19 now lol
I have a whiteboard above my snakes tank and I find that really useful
Cats like "fuck you, I'm the star of this video" 😂
Every time..
What is the intro song in this video
The spray bottle part was hilarious
I love the new little bits of funny put in these, they make me laugh because i dont expect them from you :)
Out of bleach? Try drinking reptisafe! (read reptisafe like OXIEClean)
Pugnado i dont think many people are appreciating the genius in your comment 😂
Pugnado nice
Ok
No
No?
Thank you sir. I now use ReptiSafe as my main laundry detergent and beverage.
When he threw the spray bottle and zoomed in I died laughing because I pictured that with the seinfeld theme song in the background or is that just me?
That would've been a nice addition lol
alex you are my favourite youtuber just without question
0:25 *What have you done.*
(Talking about gloves) “I found these come in really handy”
*_pun not intended_*
Glad to hear you mention thermostats! I feel like that's one of the most important things when keeping herps!
I have been keeping snakes and lizards for 12 years with NO thermostat and I have never had a problem with heat. also I did used to have a thermo for my snake and he almost died cuz it malfunction when I was at work for 9 hours
snakecat100 Ya. Again that's the importance of them. If you're working and the snake is over heating. A Thermostat would've prevented that.
no the thermostat malfunction not the heat mat. It randomly sparked and started to smoke (cctv)
Paper towel /tosses no reaction
snake hook /also tosses with no problems
Spray bottle /tosses, regrets life decisions, cringes at the loud CLUNK
I use this same temp gun when I’m making soap, so there’s one thing I already have!
FYI I had used the tropical mist before, it got into my reptiles eyes and damaged them slightly. He recovered though after 3 weeks of treatment...
Noah's Ark Exotics yikes hope they’re better now. As soon as he said something about how strong the smell was I kinda knew it probably isn’t the best product…
Just use water (of course treated with ReptiSafe or a similar product.)
Thank you for taking the unconventional route with the supplies! i love how you edit these?? it's so funny like when you threw the spray bottle I laughed so hard because it's just subtly funny??
Good information. Thanks for sharing. For advanced keepers, a UVB meter is probably essential as well.
Chuck Horne where can you find one and are they accurate and worth the money? ive never heard of these and this might be the single most needed accessory

that's really nice to hear, thanks!
I didn't know about the timer. I'm ordering one right now because I want to make my life easier. Automation is so nice.
Dude, you're awesome. Bought my first common ball python this week, and have been using your videos prior to my purchase to help my animal stay healthy and learning more every day. Keep it up

Omg you saved me! I've been looking for something like this for ages!!!
Great video! thanks for making! alot of helpful tips here!
Great video! And yeah all those things are useful. I use most of them.
Thanks!
0:24 instant regret.
You can buy the light timers a lot cheaper at Wal-Mart. I use one of my enclosures, but I'm pretty sure they have ones that you can plug in multiple lights to
I just found your channel but already living for it good job 👏🏾 👍🏾❤️
Anyone else LOVE this intro?!
Always love your videos! ❤️
thank you!
I checked out your ball python care guide on your website and I love it, thank you!
This guy is so kind and helpful I sucscribed
thanks!
Omg I love your channel sm but the spray bottle GOT ME it also scared my beardie lol
This is so helpful thank you! I really need to buy a timer thermometer for my Geckos heat mat and I should look in to the Zilla timers! I like the schedule idea, I bet I could use Google calendar so it gives me notifications (I dont have a reptile yet but I'm thinking of getting one)
Thanks, very useful hints & tips.
European here, you can get thermostats for lights aswell, it just needs a dimmer/dimming function. The price goes up though, but again it worth it, with room temperatures fluctuating :D
thanks! This was really helpful.
AMAZING VIDEO, the start made me laugh :)
thanks :D
That millisecond comment... really handy pun not intended 😂
Dude nice setup
great video, keep it up
thanks :)
Reptisafe is also good for aquariums. Since I keep fish with my turtles all I use is Reptisafe for their water. No need for seperate fish chemicals.
Thermostat for any heat source is absolutely necessary.
I use a thermostat on my lights just fine. Habistat do a dimmer so it just dims the 75w bulb to where it will keep temperature constant :) my lights go off at night as snakes would naturally have a temp drop when the sun goes down so the stat gets the bulb nice and hot to bring the vivarium back up to temp when I turn it on in the morning then dims it to maintain temp throughout the day..... works well imho but does have to be a dimmer thermostat not a pulse....

informative video. thanks man!
Wow nice job, you finally changed the channel tag to goherping.
Da intro dooo
19 reptile species are getting legal, from 15th of August here in Norway. So I've been watching a ton of your videos for knowledge..

I'm sorry this doesn't relate to the video very well but I am getting a bearded dragon and I was wondering what is the best place to buy them. Sorry but you are the only reptile you tuber that I watch. Thank you!
Try to find a respectable breeder in your area, or at a reptile show. Stay away from common pet stores such as petsmart and petco.
Nice videos. I subscribed.
your videos are great!👍
p.s. tropical mist smells good. lol
Do you sell herping kits I’m thinking after corona virus going to another country to go herping as I can’t in England and it would be cool if you had those. Thankyou!
love the video!
thanks!
np~ I love your videos and really want a snake. I only get my snake research from you. :D Keep up the good work!
Nice video!
Amazing Animal Adventures what do you find is the best method to scent a mouse for a Hogg? And my parents will flip if I try braining it.
I honestly don't know. Lucy has been a great eater ever since her first feeding. I have heard of senting with tuna which seems simple, and also lizards, but I don't know how you would go about it.

GoHerping I checked my pantry and threw it all out because it expired two years ago.
Man i got one and i havent figured out to really use it lol but i need a few of them for my reps and plants.
You could use the thermometer gun or whatever for fish too.Not cooking fish.Like for pet fish when yo don’t have a thermometer you could use it to check if the water is the right temperature.
Good video. But, Tropical Mist? Many other different, better options.
0:24 😂😂😂😂

That face tho 0:26 🤣
I have been using my brita filtered water for my cham and was told I don’t need reptisafe if the water is filtered. Should I still be using it?
Do you think aquarium conditioner would work the same way as the one specified for reptiles? I don't want to use it, just in case it could be harmful for the snake.
I don't know much about fish and I can't give a definite answer, but I feel like if water is good enough for fish, it should be good enough for reptiles. Just a guess though
Alex: paper towel, a snake hook, a spray bottle *throws spray bottle*
Spray bottle:BBLLFKDKDKRHGB!!
for the reptisafe water conditioner, do you put it in your animals water container? Thanks.
they should make highend controllers for reptiles like the ones they make for saltwater aquariums ill be awesome to control the lights, heat mats and foggers from work and know the temperature and humidity by just looking at my phone ill be good for those who take care of lots of different reptiles. not trying to be lazy or anything but its also good to constantly know whats happening inside their enclosures.
i know this is an old video but do you still have the documents for the schedules? i cannot seem to find them on your site!
he is the jr. afroherpkeeper
I use that same thermostat in my baby bird brooders.
U can use a dimming stat with a heat bulb
If you have your own water purifier, is that ok for the reptile?
Instead of retisafe I use an aquarium one that is much stronger meaning I do not use as much to fill up the gallons of water. It is also about the same price
I use the temp gun with chickens
Almost ten thousand subs!!!!
So I can store up the water i put the reptisafe in and keep using it ?
Can I spray the humidity spray in my humid hide for a leopard gecko?
laughed so hard when you threw the bottle
IR thermometers are kinda crap when dealing with different surfaces. Probes are the best choice.
Probes are great, but definitely don't give nearly as accurate surface temperatures infrared
You are supposed to have a drainage layer for soil, even if its not bio active; this helps prevent unwanted dankness within the soil for your animals.
Arizona Vivariums that’s not true at all where did u get this information I have not seen one person use a drainage layer if it’s not bio active and I’ve been researching reptiles for years
i live in the Netherlands, were there is almost no chlorine added to the tap water. do i still need reptisafe?
KEYM RIJN yes it is very important for the well-being of your animals
but also if there is like really no chlorine added, like 0%, do you still need it?
KEYM RIJN I would still recommend adding it because it will also get rid of other chemicals even if there are only trace amounts
I my country there isn't chlorine in the tap water, so reptisafe shouldn't be necessary, right?
Any chance you’ll add a bts checklist?
What are the storage options for reptisafe? do i have to keep it in the fridge or should i just leave it out?
nope just room temp
0:43 Taser
Can you use aquarium water conditioner as a replacement as the ReptiSafe?
can you shoot the thermometer gun at the sun?
How would you know the exact amount of humidity that is in the tank? I'm still a little co fused as to how you would do that, since you said reptiles need very specific hear and humidity conditions
I can’t find your print outs? I clicked on the link but it’s all reading and videos
I can't find the schedule in the care guides, it only has a ball python, leopard gecko, and corn snake guides and links to videos. Am I missing something? Where should I go to find the reptile schedule?
