I understand you are a big fan of traditional line, but I have never heard you talking about the lb/s, make, or model/s you use. I use Abu 6501s so I'm wanting to hear what you recommend for my future consideration. You might want to do a video just on lines and possibluy go into your different rig setups in even more detail.

Does the pattern of catching fish in the shallow areas next to deep water apply to only low light conditions like early morning or late afternoon or does that ring true during the day as well?
Good question. It is a good rule of thumb all year long and all day long. However it can be PRIME as the sun starts to set when water is cool enough for fish to stay shallow for long periods of time. they can stay up shallow all night long and you can catch em until mid day the following day. 👍👍. So water temp is a huge factor.
Fresh bait is a definitely the key, I don’t use much bunker in Maryland, but the peeler blue crabs give off something that drives the fish nuts, went through about a dozen tonight which would be a fortune at the store, another great byproduct to having a pier but if a chunk of crab doesn’t get slammed within 15 minutes I toss it
Unfortunately I stopped doing charters a while back because I’m constantly traveling to fish different places. I don’t really know where I’ll be and to be a great charter captain you have to limit yourself to familiar waters that you fish everyday. Thanks brother
Ahh I gotcha. I've been watching a ton of your videos trying to learn more about striper fishing. I've been about 5 times now and finally caught a 17in striper this past Saturday on smith mountain. Planning to go to Virgina coast next month sometime and just it would be amazing to learn from the man himself! You catch some great fish!
Thanks brother!! You’re too kind. The Striped Bass is the most amazing fish in the country. Countless ways to catch them, from rivers and lakes, to oceans and bays. Congratulations on your first!! Shoot me an email if I can help with anything. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
Thanks brother!! That’s actually my old band. (I played drums). The band is Mama Tribe. Lay me down is the song. Shoot me your email and I’ll send you the album. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com thanks again.
Try using beef tongue strips or tripe. Then dip them into lamb's blood. Then soak them in fermented mackerel head liquid. If your not doing that your not fishing.
We normally use whole and halved bunker. The half with the head is regularly more productive, but there are times that the smaller body pieces with guts work best. We keep things mixed up and try to really pay good attention.
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
I really appreciate it! 😁👍

👍👍😁😁
Do you drop it to the bottom?
Nice catch brother.. i haven't been here awhile.
have you fished landlocked stripers with cut bait with success?is the cut bait bait fishing more of a night thing?
Absolutely. Cutbait is great in freshwater all day long, but best when fish move up on points early and late
Hey Mike, what bridge did you go under at the end of the video?
Outer bridge crossing.
Fresh bait is a definitely the key, I don’t use much bunker in Maryland, but the peeler blue crabs give off something that drives the fish nuts, went through about a dozen tonight which would be a fortune at the store, another great byproduct to having a pier but if a chunk of crab doesn’t get slammed within 15 minutes I toss it
Great comment brother!! I appreciate your info 👍👍
Real nice fish.
Thanks brother
Think just saw your boat headed towards the Raritan. If it is good luck
BUSTED!!!
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS how'd you guys do Sunday. It was nuts outside the hook
What size line?
30lb mono.
I caught white perch and I’m wondering if I could use them for stripers in the Delaware river
Sure. As long as you catch them on hook and line legally. No cast net.
Yeah I catch perch on night crawlers then cast them out for stripers
Nice video
Thanks brother
Was all you said about cut bait in this video also apply to fresh water striper fishing as well?
Absolutely!! 👍👍
Another great video!
Thank you sir!!!👍
Mr. Smedley do you do any striper charters off Virginia coast?
Unfortunately I stopped doing charters a while back because I’m constantly traveling to fish different places. I don’t really know where I’ll be and to be a great charter captain you have to limit yourself to familiar waters that you fish everyday. Thanks brother

thought the heads were the best for big bass
