- Chunking is by far my favorite way to target big striped bass from the rocks, and it is definitely becoming less popular every year. I've been able to get some fish in the mid-upper 30 pound class this year on the chunks during the daytime, and I am confident that I will soon be getting even bigger fish in the nighttime hours with that sweet sweet bunker.

When I fish from the dock at Wetherill Park, I always bait my hooks with one inch thick cuts of menhaden. If I'm going for really big stripers and blues, I'll use the head too.
any luck with chunked mackeral? I always fish that dock on the weekends. would appreciate any tips or tricks.
@@namster08 I've used mackerel with success too. But generally, I stick with menhaden. And if I feel like black sea bass, I'll use squid strips.

I was always told the head was for a big striper too untill i hooked a 15lb blue with it. What a battle.
Great video! Man I should have been chunken! I've lost a small fortune sacrificing lures to the blues. After a hookup the school would attack the leader, swivel or even a knot if I tied leader to braid. They're nasty. I love the trashman vedeo! Instead of IDing fresh bunka by blood your supposed to taste test with your tongue tip!

When you cast your weight and bait out there, do you keep the line tight when you're waiting for a fish to pick of the bait or do you leave some slack?
Leave some slack so you can see every little movement.

Thanks man! I usually use a 10 foot medium heavy rod with a 4500-6000 reel for chunking

garbage man is my idol haha. I'll snag pogey if I can find them but I usually buy it. Most bait shops should have it, Sam's bait in middletown is my go to spot

I would say chunk pogey and go around sunset/nighttime thats usually when I get my bigger fish

Itching for the 22 season, I kept having trash luck with the circle hooks last year. Everytime I try to set the hook, lostem. I have to keep remembering that you can’t set the hooks with these, light an steady :(

thanks man, biggest striper I've landed from shore was a 41 pounder from last season on the chunk. Biggest lure striper I'd say maybe 25 pounds, I catch a lot more bigger fish chunkin

welcome bud, I have not but I might make one on how to tie up chunking rigs/how to use circle hooks. A lot better than using J hooks in my opinion

Shears last 2.5 years. If you are unable to afford a new pair the federal government has a program to assist fishermen who are on a fixed income.
