    SOMETHING I FAILED TO MENTION!! I forgot to say that if you have flat top pistons or high dome pistons you will need to clay the pistons to check for piston to valve clearances. Stock y7/y8 or z6 pistons they are dish and never caused a issue for me in the past doing this.

      I know you have repeatedly stated you are not sure how well this work on a stock Y7 but im wondering if i would need a new ecu? Will this throw codes if i don't change the ecu?. Mine is stock and automatic and id like to keep it simple but add a little power.

    Great intro! We need to get you an aero turbine muffler. That thing would sound so deep, and with that lobe it'd be so mean sounding. My buddy had one on his civic and it sounded so deep, I've had one on multiple 4cyl cars and people always asked me about it.

      Yea ima go 3 inch exhaust soon and will be in the market for a better muffler

    • @sinformant
      @sinformant 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TexasHondaChannel also that insert isn't about how much pressure it gets. It makes the eagle screech at lower boost, it is more about slow velocity air. The bov needs to open further at a lower boost to get the eagle sound. Its probably why the design works so well in my ssqv. The gretty knock off I had like that either opened easy and wouldn't hold boost at higher levels, or would hold higher boost but not open easy. I think that is due to the design of it having a spring to hold it shut instead of boost pressure hold it shut like the ssqv does.

    You’re not wrong about the cam wear but to be fair pretty much every other four-cylinder engine on the market doesn’t have VTEC like Honda does. They have your typical variable valve timing, but nothing special. I’ve never seen Honda’s really have cam problems at all from my personal experience but maybe because you have a single lobe controlling two valves? correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that how the SOHC engines are? Also, what’s your 0 to 60 time?

  • @Kj16V
    @Kj16V 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm confused as to the point in this. Is this a non-vtec engine with a vtec cam? If so, then I can understand why you would lock it. If it *is* a vtec engine then all you are doing is losing a whole bunch of midrange torque.

    • @TexasHondaChannel
      @TexasHondaChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kj16V The d16y7 is a non Vtec engine non Vtec cam shaft and makes less power than a Vtec engine. For the people who want to run a bigger camshaft since there isn’t a lot of options out there for the Y7 non Vtec you can now run a y8 cam shaft which they have tons of options for. Essentially you are locking vtec in since there is no vtec solenoid on a y7 you typically can’t run a vtec cam in these heads. If you lock vtec you can now run a vtec camshaft: is it easier to just swap a y8 head on a y7 block? Yes of course but some people are difficult myself included. I did it to prove you can and it did make more power doing this as opposed to running the stock y7 camshaft.

    Are you sure it was going 134mph? If you didn't change speed sensor for the lower gear ratio the computer could be giving you false readings because the computer is receiving bad data. If you truly want to test that theory try a GPS speedometer.

    Locking VTec Does not increase turbo spool/power, the low cam will causes the turbo to spoiled faster at low end, lock vtec at low RPM makes your car run more of a dog versus small profile lobe. Locking pretty much just gives you advantage of a VTEC issue arising and a race motor (aka top end) And of course gives you that sound, but sound doesn't add horsepower does it??
